I have dealt with this establishment twice, once when my dear Mom passed away in 2018 and again when my 100 year old spunky & loving grandmother passed in 2020. When my Mom passed, my sister and I made an appointment to select a headstone. I was impressed when I had called to make an appointment as I spoke to Chris Lee and he was friendly and informative. We met with him on 3/25/18. He was very helpful in giving us information on the type of headstone that was required for the area where my mother's grave site was, the catalogs as well as the sample headstones that was in his office to choose from. With his help, we chose a headstone we were really pleased with that was regal and epitomized my mother's classiness. In the year of the pandemic, my granny passed in June, 2020. Since we had a good experience prior, we decided to come back to this business to get a headstone for her grave site. We met with Steven Bloom on 8/1/20. He was friendly, took time to show us our options and we selected a different headstone that reminded us of her personal style. We paid for the headstone in full (you have the option to make a partial payment) and waited to hear updates on our order. More than two and a half months passed by and I hadn't heard anything regarding our fully paid order so I reached out to Mr. Bloom for an update. I talked to him via phone in October and he remembered me and the order and told me he would call me back that day to provide update details. I didn't get a call back so I called the next day and left him a voicemail as he was out of the office. I still did not hear from him after a few days. It was then that I called again and asked to speak to a manager. I was transferred to a vice president and explained the situation. He looked into it and was honest about what happened which I appreciated. Our order unintentionally got lost in the shuffle. With the pandemic and tons of orders, an error occurred. Sir V.P. apologized for the non-communication of who we dealt with concerning this order and the error. He got right on getting our order processed immediately. He communicated with me by email and by phone as to the developments. I appreciated his willingness to be empathetic to my family on how important getting this headstone done and done right. He was professional at the same time. By the time the headstone was finished, unfortunately it was too late in the year for it to be placed so Sir V.P. said that he would follow up with me in March to see if Glen Oaks Cemetery had placed the headstone. He kept his word and called me on March 1 - the headstone hadn't been placed yet but he would check again and get back to me. My granny's b-day was March 6 so I decided to go out to the cemetery to visit her. I was happy to see that it had looked like they had just placed the headstone either that day or the day before. I personally reached out and thanked Sir V.P. for all of his help and assistance in getting this headstone completed because it was really important to our family. I highly recommend this business. Our 26 year old son died and we purchased a headstone and base from Joey Cashmore Johnson at North Chicago Memorials. We did not know when it was going to arrive but happened to be there when it did. We witnessed and videotaped a worker by himself dropping our sons stones off the back of a pick up truck. We were devastated to see the disrespectful manner in which our sons stones were laid. we made an appt with Joey and told her not to have that person touch our stones again since they put in the wrong base and left information off both stones. we told her what we saw and she kicked us out of the office and said you think you and your wife can cause harm to a company thats been in buisiness for 150 years? we went to Troost Memorials and talked with patrick and eric who defended her heartless behavior. we told eric the old base was left on someone elses gravesite for days but he said the cemetary said it was ok if it wasnt in a walkway. wrote Lisa Troost 2 letters she didnt handle our first letter personally but responded to the second. these people never took responsibility for their disrespectful actions. They have no respect for the living or the dead. They shouldnt be in this line of buisiness since they have little to no compassion. After our heartwrenching loss they have only added to our pain. read more

I joined yelp just to write a review about my experience with Peter Troost, Co. My husband and I tragically lost our infant daughter in December. It took us months to save even the modest amount of an infant marker. When we ordered the marker in May we were told, and our receipt states, that the marker would be delivered to the cemetery in 8-10 weeks. This time period passed. When I contacted them today (yes, I contacted them, not the reverse), I was told that they did not know why there was a delay, that it didn't matter what the delay was (of course it doesn't matter to YOU; you have my money and my angel still has no marker), and that the "good news" was that it SHOULD be placed in 2 weeks. Really? That's the good news? I would expect the good news to be that the professional service I was promised was delivered and that a grieving mother isn't told that "it doesn't matter" why her baby still doesn't have her marker. Thanks for making a terrible situation worse. But I guess it "doesn't matter" to you. read more

I recently visited my family grave site and thought that the monument may need a cleaning. I spoke to Steve Bloom at Troost Monument and he quoted me a rough price. I then sent him a photo of the monument and after looking at the photo, Steve informed me that the stone didn't look that dirty and that I should wait a few years. I needed a monument for my parents grave site in a time when I planned to visit their cemetery. I had exceptional needs since I live in California and was unable to have a visit to the company. I was able to choose online and discuss details with Shannon. She assured me often and guided me thru the process that was completely unknown to me. She made it easy and enjoyable and that meant everything to me. My trip was set at a certain date and I thought the timing might not have the foot stone placed. The Peter Troost Monument Co. did some engraving work when my father died in Feb 2001. When my mother died 10 years later, we contacted him for a price quote on a small engraving on my mother's tiny stone, to read: WIFE & MOTHER PAULINE 1920-2011 Our plot has 8 graves, with a huge monument stone with just the family last name on it. Each person has separate engraving on the small stones at the head of their graves. The main stone was set in the 1870's. Eric Pedersen of Peter Troost went to examine the site and sent this report back: "I have attached the pictures of the monument for you to view. As you can see the Tablet part has started to shift. The cost we charge to reseal the two pieces together and straighten them is usually $1225, but if you wish to have this done at the same time the engraving is done I can take 10% off to$1100. The cost to do the engraving alone is $507 and will read..." (as is described above---small engraving on small stone), for a total of $1607, $1100 of which was to re-align the large family stone onto its base. The photos showed stones that looked plenty sturdy. They were not perfectly straight, but that was easily due to the fact that in the mid-1870's, the alignment was not done by computer regulated equipment to give precise perfect matching of the stones where they attached . Mr. Pedersen said the main stone was so flimsy it could be pushed over with one finger. I sent two other companies out to check the area, asking only for engraving estimates. Both companies reported back a price for the engraving. I asked them if the main stone and base showed any problems. Both men who did the estimates said they always check the older graves for stone displacement, and we were fortunate such a fantastic job had been done so long ago: the stones were perfectly placed, sturdy as ever, would last decades more, and no work needed to be done to any stones. My bother and I went to the cemetery and compared the photos sent to the actual main stone and base, and tiny individual stones at the heads of every grave. In the photos, all the shots of the main stone on the base had perfectly straight sides both on the top and base stones. The photos showed jagged edges on both sides of the top stone, and on both sides of the bottom stone, which looked perfectly straight---no damage at all, to the sides of the stones which were visible from all angles when we saw the stones in person and took our own photos. The Main stone seemed to be sitting on no base in some photos, and while the base is actually several inches larger than the main stone to give it a wide border for the stone to sit on, some of the Troost photos showed "a" main stone sitting on no base at all.. Comparing our photos to theirs, our opinion is that certain photos were either doctored, or not of our family plot. The Troost photos showed huge damage and pitting to the ends and sides of the main stone and its base. No such damage or pitting was visible. We pushed and pulled on the main stone, and if Mr. Pedersen's could push that stone over with one finger, he had one special finger with super human strength. My brother and I were appalled that one company claimed $1100 worth of stone re-setting had to be done (price was reduced due to engraving being added onto that figure, bringing the total to $1607), while two other companies, and a couple of groundskeepers we consulted said the stones were all in perfect condition. Reach your own conclusions, but the company we chose is reviewed separately and did a lovely job. read more

On behalf of our family, I cannot express enough how happy we were with Peter Troost's beautiful marker and services. In the fall of 2016 my mother's health was rapidly declining at the age of 88 from ALS. Her dying wish was to finally get a marker for her still-born baby, named Marian, who was buried in the cemetery since 1952. At the time of Marian's birth/ death they could not afford a marker. They didn't forget about the marker, although years and decades passed while raising seven children. When my Mom only had 2-3 months to live, we learned of her wish and scurried to get the marker in place. Lisa at Peter Troost worked with us and fast-tracked making the marker our family had selected. She also worked with us to get the marker in place before winter came. Just in the nick of time, on a beautiful late fall day in 2016, we wheeled my mom out to the gravesite with all of her children and held a service for baby Marian. My mom passed away about six weeks later. My Dad swears that it was my mom's #1 wish before she passed away to show Marian the respect and kindness and to give her a proper burial. We will forever be indebted to Peter Troost Monument Co. for accomplishing the marker and service for our family. We are very appreciative that they worked so hard to get the marker in place for our mom to see before she passed away. read more
