Dr. Peter Ternus has been taking care of my feet since 2010 and there has been a lot of necessary care For my feet. During that time I broke my left foot and a few years later then broke my right foot. Dr Ternus's has a state of the art X-ray machine providing immediate imaging of breaks etc. which expedited care and in each instance I walked out the door in a boot and was well on my way to healing. I require regular visits for maintenance and removal of calluses that form from bunions. (One day when it's necessary Dr Ternus will perform surgery to remove my bunions. but, I'm not there there, yet.) Dr. Ternus also makes specialized orthotics for me utilizing a method of making a cast of my feet to ensure the orthotics are exact to my feet and adds the prescriptive materials to ensure my feet are supported and comfortable for walking, standing and running. (So much better than off shelf with a fraction of the size off and no prescriptive materials and or arch supports to address your needs!) Dr Ternus's business is feet! I can still remember my first visit to the office and my feet were in bad shape from calluses and a lack of proper professional care. I had put off seeing a doctor because I was nervous about someone messing with my feet. That nervousness went away immediately when I met Dr Ternus. I needed a second opinion for a painful toe and made an appointment to see Dr. Ternus. My original podiatrist recommended trying over the counter supportive shoes and insoles. But when that didn't help, he suggested surgery. I showed Dr. Ternus the xray from the first podiatrist and let him know my situation. He examined my foot and made some modifications to the insole and said to try it out for about a month. That didn't help, so he decided on making some custom orthotics. After wearing the custom orthotics for about two months, the toe pain went away. Words cannot express how thankful I am for Dr. Ternus. I came in not knowing what the cause of my foot pain was. I told Dr. Ternus my symptoms and 2 minutes later he was able to identify what the cause was. I had a gout flare up. Dr Ternus proceeded to educate me about gout, the reasons why, the treatments and even went as far as explaining everything in thorough detail. He is not the ordinary doctor who rushes to get you out of their office. I told Dr. Ternus my situation with my insurance coverage. He was not pushy on trying to get me to burn money on uncessary X-Rays or MRIs. However I was able to tell him my situation with my crappy insurance coverage and he was generous enough to cut me some slack. There arent many decent Doctors in San Leandro, if you're like me I often drive to the city or Fremont just to find someone worth going to. Dr. Ternus is definitely someone you can trust. After having several surgeries at the hands of doctors who were not quite up to the task of taking my dogs temperature, I was referred to Dr. Ternus. Not having been able to walk barefooted for about four years, because of afore mentioned doctors, Dr. Ternus took a few x-rays and saw what the problem was. He scheduled my surgery for Feb 2018 and by April 2018 I was walking on bare feet again. He has proven to be THE best podiatrist I have ever been to and believe me I've been to many. I went into Dr. Ternus' office nervously thinking I would need surgery on my ankle. Dr. Ternus calmly wiped away my concern, took some really clear x-rays with his fancy x-ray machine, made specific suggestions on insoles for my shoes and even told me which shoes to wear in the house. Dr. Ternus and his partner, Dr. Nelson, repaired my ankle. Technically, the retinaculum ligament was reattached and an "accessory tendon" was removed in the channel reserved for the peroneal tendons. It's been almost 13 weeks since the surgery, and I've been walking for about 3 weeks without any assistance or devices. While there is continuing physical therapy as expected, the repair is as good as it gets. Dr Ternus initially diagnosed the problem (dislocated peroneals) and provided a brace so I could finish my athletic schedule before surgery. He is careful to answer every question and one never gets the feeling of being rushed during an office visit. The office staff is competent, courteous, and efficient. I did not meet Dr Nelson, who was the extra pair of hands during the surgical procedure. Kudos to the San Leandro surgery center where the operation was done. The anesthesiologist took pictures and showed them to me during the op - I was heavily sedated and had a nerve block, but conscious. I highly recommend Dr Ternus as a DPM. read more
