He's horrible, I have sat with him for consultation and I explain how I want it done. I trusted him, but he disappointed me very badly. I look the same as I walk into his office. I wanted a mini facelift and when I woke up under the anesthesia, I felt that he didn't do the job. He cut me and saw me back up. The next day to check me up, I said something to him that it doesn't look like I had the surgery, and I want him to correct it. He made a lot of excuses to avoid reconstruction. I have been seeing Dr. Johnson for years. He works at the hospital where I am on staff and did amazing work with the trauma patients there, so I felt he was a safe bet for more routine stuff, like botox and fillers and such. Now, I am going to have him do my eyes and would not even consider going to someone else. I love his bedside manner. He is so relaxed and never encourages me to do anything, even though there are many things that another plastic surgeon might suggest. I have recommended him to several of my friends, one of whom had a face lift with Dr. Johnson and it turned out great. Very subtle and natural looking. Anyway, he and his staff are the best. I have never waited for more than 10 minutes and have been completely happy with everything I've had done there. As an aside, his staff all love him (and have used him for their own work) and there has been little or no turnover in the more than 10 years that I have been going there. Honestly, I was so shocked to see he had even a few negative reviews, but I am sure this speaks to the population of people he serves... a large percentage of whom are likely neurotic and would be unhappy with anyone they saw. 5 years ago I had breast augmentation by Dr. Johnson, and I loved the results. I kept it more on the conservative side, and I never felt pushed to do more or go larger. A couple days post op, I even had a little issue and he asked me to come back to the office to address it (and it was on a holiday weekend). He always impressed me with his bedside manner. Very professional, kind, and has a gentle/authentic energy that I always appreciated. His staff are also all wonderful as well. I have since continued to use his services for Botox and I feel the same. I trust his judgment and he really listens to his patients. I also referred my best friend to him about 3 years ago, and she had a wonderful experience. A procedure can be exciting, but also unnerving, and he and his office really do their best to make you as comfortable as possible. read more

A very gentle and kind man! He removed some sun damaged skin from my face a few years ago. He sent the tissue sample in to make sure it was not anything to worry about and let me know promptly that I was fine. He advised me to change my sun worshiping ways and I have.I healed beautifully and with no complications. The staff were nice and helpful as well. If I ever need (who am I kidding-not need-WANT)cosmetic surgery in the future, I will definitely give Dr Johnson a call! He has been named one of Chicago's top plastic surgeons for several years. Choosing a plastic surgeon is a very serious decision and not something or someone you should feel "so-so" about. With that said, I feel that if your experience is not stellar or 5 stars than it is 1 star and nothing in between. I mean- I'm not rating a restaurant- this is a decision that affects your appearance for the rest of your life. I went to Dr. Johnson for a rhinoplasty 10 years ago when I was 19. Of course, we discussed what I wanted and I brought photographs in. Dr. Johnson performed the procedure without complications and I thought the healing process went well. Like many others, I didn't really receive my "ideal" nose but I was mature enough to realize that plastic surgeons aren't miracle workers and I got a nose that fit my face and not necessarily what I found in a magazine. So for a few years I was content although not exactly thrilled about the procedure. Then about 5-7 years after the procedure, I began noticing what looked like a crack on the bridge of my nose. It wasn't very noticeable but I could see it in pictures when a flash went off or when my skin was oily. When I puled down the tip of my nose and the skin was taut you could definitely see a protruding bone. And when I ran my fingers down the length of my nose I could feel an indent immediately. However, I had better things to do in my life than worry about my nose so I didn't let it concern my for the next few years. But then it was becoming more and more noticeable so then I felt- why did I get a nose job for my nose to look like its actually broken now? So I went back to Dr. Johnson to ask him what happened. He explained to me that my nose did not heal properly which happens in rare cases. Basically the cartilage had shifted which caused an indent in one place and a bump in other place. Again, I am not exactly blaming this on Dr. Johnson. Perhaps I was just one of the unlucky few. I am not a doctor so I cannot say if this was an error made on his part. He offered me 2 options: get a 2nd rhinoplasty to correct the mistake or he could use a filler substance to fill the indent which would be much less but only last a year. After that, his nurse came in to discuss pricing. Since this would be my 2nd rhinoplasty with him he would charge me a $1000 less and that price was approx. $4,400. This was out of the question so I asked about the "filler" option and the nurse said she had no idea what I was talking about and that Dr. Johnson did not mention it to her despite it being less than 2 mins from the time he left the room to when she entered. I was already put off that he was pretty much charging me for a 2nd rhinoplasty but when he "conveniently" forgot to tell the nurse about the much cheaper filler option I was completely put off. It was that action that really prompted this review and not my "broken" nose. I think what he did says a lot about his character (not to mention some other questionable character issues during my initial consultation/rhinoplasty) and I would never put more money into his pocket. I would really look elsewhere for a plastic surgeon. Consider yourself warned. read more

I was referred to this doctor for a breast reduction surgery due to years of back related problems. I am happy with my overall results. I went from an H cup to a DDD cup. I was hoping to end up a bit smaller, but understand an exact size can't be promised. I do not regret going through with this surgery at all. It was a life changing decision. I am much more mobile now and have gained a lot of confidence back. I finally get to buy bras at Victoria Secret! If you have been mulling over whether or not to have this surgery, the most important thing I can tell you after going through it is this: I wish I would have done it sooner! So much time wasted being in pain and unhappy. Do your research and then decide what's best for you though. My only issue was with the payment method- My insurance covered most of the cost, however I did apply for the CareCredit card on the doctor's website to pay for what insurance didn't cover. I was not aware they do not accept the deferred interest option stated on the CareCredit card website. Therefore, I'd recommend applying for a regular visa credit card with a no interest for 15 months option and pay it off by then to save yourself from the 14.9% interest rate of the CareCredit. read more

I was referred to Dr. Johnson for a breast reduction, and I 100% made the right decision to go to him. His staff was so accommodating. Gigi somehow managed to squeeze me in for a consultation on the day after Thanksgiving. When I explained to them that another doctor wasted about a month of my time and that I was trying to get this surgery completed before the end of the year, they did everything in their power to make this happen for me, and we got it accomplished! At the hospital, all the nurses had nothing but great things to say about Dr. Johnson, which really put my mind at ease. I am so, so, so happy with my results! I went from a HH to a DD, and Dr. Johnson is such a perfectionist that I have almost no scarring. It is amazing what he accomplished, and his bed side manner is excellent. Listen to the bad reviews about this 'plastic surgeon'. In my case, he did a horrible job! And didn't even had the decency to offer to correct his awful performance or apologized for his horrendous job (he left me with a horrible scar after a bad tummy tuck)! I had to have both corrected afterwards by an excellent plastic surgeon. Thanks to that correction surgery, the scar is no longer disfiguring but the sad partial tummy tuck ( that could have been a full tummy tuck after all the money I paid to correct his horrid job) prevented me from ever again achieving the results I should have, thanks to his ineptitude!! I wish I had trusted the bad reviews when I read them. AND it's also true that he has an atrocious bedside manner and he leaves his nurse the aftercare responsability. The skill of a physician does not solely revolve around their eyes or hands, but their heart as well. Since there are always going to be positive & negative experiences that different people have with the same physician/staff as others, it is important that both types of reviews are left. I was referred to Dr. Johnson by my dermatologist due to a painful lipoma sitting on my ribs, which Dr. Johnson removed a few days ago. He did a great job, thanks doc! My dermatologist had told me ahead of time that Dr. Johnson is quiet and reserved, so I went in with an open mind and found that he has a very calming energy. I was nervous while waiting in the waiting room, but once I was called back and saw Dr. Johnson again, my nerves vanished. I did a lot of reading ahead of time, to familiarize myself with what a lipoma is, how it is removed, as well as on Dr. Johnson. I have read reviews, and realself.com in which Dr. Johnson has provided answers to over 7000 questions real people have posted. You learn a lot when reading answers as you see patterns in a physician's philosophy and responses. My overall opinion is that Dr. Johnson is a meticulous, practiced, gentle, intelligent and compassionate surgeon. His staff are nice and calming as well, which is something that I value. I also never got a sense that I was in a "sales" environment, which can be very typical of a plastic surgeon's practice.  My experience so far has been very positive, so I thought an updated review was warranted on here! PS: It is too bad others in the past have had negative experiences, but no one can please every single person 100% of the time every single day. Everyone owes it to themselves to thoroughly research who they see and make educated decisions based on many factors, not just something like what an office looks like, or how much a procedure will cost. If you don't feel 100%, get a second or third opinion. Find someone with the right energy that matches what you are looking for. One star because 0 wasn't an option. He seems super nice. Laid back. Caring. But when I was disappointed with the results of a facelift and arm tuck he didn't offer me any options. I am about 6 yrs out, and have had to save enough to pay for a second lift. He doesn't stand behind his work. Look elsewhere for a facelift or arm tuck. There are better surgeons to go to. Oh, plus when I complained he tried to show me a picture he took of me the day I complained. Except it wasn't. It was a picture about 6 weeks post surgery. I challenged them on it, and they said it was. Well I didn't have earring in my ear in that picture but I had earring in the day I complained to him ( I happened to have the same top on ) I made them retake it and his nurse said lift your chin up, I said that's not a natural pose. The new picture showed a sagging neck and jowls but their response was its "natural settling" at just 4 months post surgery. Settling ? True story. Dr. Johnson is the best! About six years ago I had an abnormal mole on the inside of my upper lip. He not only removed it, my upper lip is completely symmetrical and there is no scar from the stitching. This past September, I had an abnormal hormonal growth appear on my eyelid. I went to a plastic surgeon at Wheaton Eye, although due to limited hours at the location or surgical emergencies, I had to wait months for a procedure appointment. I called Dr. Johnson's office, and was given an appointment the next day. Dr. Johnson numbed my eyelid in the office. I was beyond terrified, but his precision was outstanding- I didn't even feel the needle. As far as the removal, 4 days later, the wound has closed and it will look like nothing was ever there by next week. While I have only had medical procedures here- Dr. Johnson is compassionate and very skilled to minimize pain, scaring, and recovery time. Thank you again! read more

I just got home from a five week check up after my tummy tuck. I am in heaven! At 65, I thought my best years were far behind me, but I was wrong. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Johnson and his amazing staff. I came for a second opinion after getting a Cool Sculpting quote from my dermatologist. I have trusted Dr. Johnson for many years now, he performed my soft face lift years ago after menopause left me sagging. He also repaired my daughter's nose after a soft ball left it crooked. So I knew I could trust him. He explained that at best, Cool Sculpting would provide minimal results and that my problem wasn't too much fat but too much skin, which CS could not address. He simply and gently explained the facts. The decision was clearly up to me. It made sense. It turned out that for a price which was lower than the CS quote I would have real results that would last. Dr. Johnson patiently answered all of my questions and his wonderful people were available when new questions occurred to me later (again and again). Both before and after my procedure. They also called just to make sure everything was good. After my first follow up appointment I got to see myself in the mirror and actually got misty because I thought I would only see this body in old pictures, but now I get to live in it again! I am only leaving this review so patients make the right decision before choosing a surgeon like you're supposed to do: After Dr. Johnson did my nose surgery, I need a revision. It didn't turn out the way that we agreed upon at all. Throughout the year he kept saying it's just swollen and it's getting better but my nose still looks the same as it did after the initial swelling went down. 10 months later he tells me he will do a revision surgery even though he kept saying it looks fine (aka he doesn't want to do a free revision and doesn't want rhinoplasty correction on his surgery record). Then he tells me he will alter a picture of my nose again so I can see how it will look after the revision and he will mail it to me since I moved out of state. I waited a few weeks and never got the revision after photos. So I had to deal with his front desk people who kept making up excuses- the doctor is in surgery or with a patient or not there. The doctor trained them to say that so he doesn't have to talk to his patients over the phone. The only way you will get in contact with him is if you make an appointment. So after calling them many times Gigi eventually told me she doesn't know anything about my situation (even after she passed the information to the surgeon many times). Then she told me that Irena knows about my situation and that she only works some Tuesdays. The first time I got a hold of Irena, the first thing she told me was the price of the revision surgery anesthesia and facility fees which was $2500 and that I can pay over the phone. I never asked about that. This was over 2 months since the surgeon told me he was going to do a revision and send me the alter after photos. I needed to see the altered image of my nose first so I knew the surgeon and I were on the same page so she said she would pass this information on to the doctor...again. Eventually I got told the doctor is not going to do them and he's not doing the surgery. I asked why and she said she will ask the doctor (and never get back to me). I just made an appointment to see him 2 months later. He must get a lot of complaints for him not to want to pick up the phone and talk to his patients. A few days before my appointment, it got cancelled because I got told he was going to do surgery.Then Covid-19 happened and I had to wait 2 more months to see the surgeon. I drove over an hour just for him to tell me that he isn't going to do a revision because it is too risky even though I'm willing to take the risks. I even told him I saw other surgeons who are willing to perform the surgery to fix my hanging columella, round tip and breathing problem, even out my nostrils and bridge, etc. After bringing up multiple times that I am having trouble breathing through my right nostril because of that excess skin blocking air flow, he said to come back in 3 months, because of all the craziness going on with Covid-19 to assess what he would do with it. That means I would have to drive over an hour there and back again and I even told him that and he's like I know. I went back and he said that the excess skin inside my nostril causing breathing problems for over a year and a half is red and inflamed and I need to go see an ENT doctor. My ENT doctor said it's not inflamed and sent the surgeon a doctors note. Of course the front desk people kept saying they left a note for the doctor and their normal excuses. They never told me they would get back to me so I had to keep calling and I never got an apology for the inconvenience they gave me. 2 months later I get told the doctor can't do anything about it and that their facility is closing in 1 month because of everything going on like Covid-19. I'm positive the doctor knows I want to leave a bad review so he waited until his place is closing down to give me some bad news. That leads me to believe that they lied to me about closing down. I asked for my post operative report for my future nose surgeon and she said it needs to get approved. Like what!? I always ask if I can expect a call back the same day I call and she always responds with something along the lines of no the doctor is not here. Unexpectedly I got a call back that day to confirm the approval. I want to add the front desk lady stopped calling me to confirm my appointments the last few appointments. I have been respectful and patient in hope of getting what I want. Before the surgery I got told I was going to get sent a survey in the mail to review my experience and I never got anything. He also made me sign a paper on the day of my surgery that no pictures were going to get released anywhere even though I said idc if they are released. Like wouldn't you want to show off your work? I am just so sketched out by this whole experience that I had to say something about it. I can't believe he doesn't want to fix his own mistakes. I went on for a consultation with Dr. Johnson about two weeks ago for a upper blepharoplasty. I scheduled my appointment for 2 days later to get it done. Friday came and i decided to do to the surgery under local anestecthic. Not only was Dr. Johnson bed side manor amazing so was his nurse Mary Ellen. I did not feel anything at all given I was awake the whole time. The procedure took about 45min. I did all my post opp instructions as directed. iced every 30min and took arnica. ... Went back 3 days later to get my sutures out.. My eyes look absolutely AMAZING. The bruising was minimal and I can't express how happy I am with the turnout... No more extra skin or hooding. I can put my make up on now with no loose skin. I would definitely recommend Dr. Johnson for anyone who is looking at wanting to get an upper blepharoplasty done.. if there was a 10star rating, I would give home 10stars instead of 5! read more

At first I was very happy to with the doctor. I saw him in Jan of 2014 and was thinking he was going to be able to help me with a wound that was not healing on my ankle. My first appointment was great and my 2nd on the 31st on Jan was ok. I walked in to the room removed the bandage myself to get ready for the doctor. He came in, wiped off the ointment from the morning I put on and poked it with a tweezers and said it is not ready for a deriding and to come back in about 3 weeks and see how it has gone. Well it seems in that time he charged my insurance for a deriding on the 31st, he did not do that until my Feb 21st appt. I called the office and spoke to the office manager Mary it started out OK until she called me a liar and to just pay it (my portion $300) even though they filed a false claim. She said, they have notes to confirm it, I said I am fine with the 21st of Feb but not the 31st of Jan. She said to bad pay it. She was so rude and talked to me as if I was not worth her time. Yes I was upset and called her a few choice names, but NO ONE has a right to talk to someone like that NOR treat them that way. I have filed a fraud claim with my insurance and tried to call the doctor to explain, he has NO interest in talking to patients. So I called and spoke to the receptionist and said to remove all my appt. and I will no longer be seeing him for my wound and will find a new doctor. So they felt the need to send me a letter that they will no longer be seeing me. I guess if you are not spending money on breasts or then nose they don't care about you. read more

After consulting with a few doctors I chose Dr. Johnson for my abdominal plasty. My results are amazing my stomach is beautiful and almost completely flat and there is barley a scar. The staff at the office is incredible the level of customerservice over exceeded all of my expectations. From beginning to end I received many phone calls periodically to follow up and see how everything is going. Everyone was so helpful and friendley at this office. After chemo and radiation I was ready for the second reconstruction to b done only to be told I would have to find another doctor to do the procedure... The entire time he gave me the hope that he would do this... Left me with one breast and in tears all because my insurance didn't meet his needs... No sympathy from this evil man!!! Whereas other providers have occasionally made me feel like a nuisance for asking for their advice, Kerri takes an extraordinary amount of time and care in recommending options and regimens in all price ranges and for all "commitment levels". She's gone so far as to send me explanatory screenshots and photos, and to send me followup messages to find out how my skin is responding to her services or product recommendations. And last but certainly not least, her bedside manner is on point--she's funny and kind and remembers all the little details I share with her about me and my skin. I chose Dr. Johnson after meeting with other top plastic surgeons in downtown Chicago. His gentle and caring manner mixed with his obvious artistic talent caught my attention. He was the only Dr. to suggest a partial vs. full abdominoplasty for my diastasis. I went to 5 -yes,5 - TOP plastic surgeons for a consultations before choosing Dr. Johnson for several reasons.1) I did not want general anesthesia, and he is one of the surgeons that works with IV sedation and local anesthetics. I did not feel a thing as I underwent upper eyelid surgery and a lower facelift! 2) Dr J. asked me what bothered me the most, and tailored the surgery to what wanted .( Most of the others just assumed I wanted the 4 or 5 procedures which comprise a total face lift, and quoted me prices of $23000 -$33500, under general anesthesia .Dr. J's approach can make the price much more reasonable.) 3) This was NOT one of those "mini-lifts", which are advertised widely. Those do not last because they are not adjusting the underlying muscles sufficiently. That is why they are cheaper. 4) As others said, Dr Johnson is very approachable. His office is not as glitzy as the ones on Michigan Avenue, but it is very suitable. His staff is very nice, professional, and attentive. 5) He does all the necessary followups and also does skincare, and non-invasive treatments if that's your interest. 6) He has done humanitarian work on children in third world countries-because he is a good guy! I would give this man zero stars if that was possible. Please be careful, do not put yourself at risk of loosing not only your money and time but also your chance to look as you want. I had the worst experience with the results of a mini tummy tuck, this man performed 5 years ago. I wanted to get rid of loose skin on my stomach area left by two pregnancies. Since I am small and slim, he recommended a mini tummy tuck. He not only left me with still sagging skin but with a disfiguring scar that he refused to correct. He could not even look me in the eye and sent his assistant to discuss the price for the scar revision (excuse me??? I would not pay Peter Johnson anymore money to fix his OWN mistake!!) and the loose skin left? 'If you stand erect no one would see it'. Really!! I ended up paying an additional $10,000 to a reputable plastic surgeon for the scar revision. He told me that I was not the first former patient of P. Johnson's practice consulting with him. He said Johnson should have realized I needed a full not a mini tummy tuck to get rid of all the loose skin, as a result of that initial procedure, he would never be able to get rid of the extra skin around my tummy, ever, unless a wanted a second scar between my navel and the original scar. Not only did I spend $10,000 on a procedure to be left with a horrible scar (and I am not even talking about the pain of undergoing surgery and the months of inactivity while you recover) but also ruined my chances of ever having a nice looking tummy ever again.....And all thanks to P. Johnson!!! I am crying as I write this, even after 5 years! From the beginning, I was not taken in by his manner (soft but also distant, cold and uncaring), however, every one in the office was nice, friendly and approachable (especially Dawn who finally convinced me) and after a year of thinking about it, I decided to go ahead. I wish anyone had posted a less than glowing review before I committed the huge error to select him as my surgeon. I would have never gone to him, otherwise.
