I am a grandmother living and caring for 2 grandchildren. My bathroom vent had quit working. So, i called PTP said they would send someone out to take a look. Long story short the fan needed replacing, it cost me $595 plus gst. It took very little time to change and the fan is very basic, nothing fancy. Our guy came in today and was to replace a Ballast for our florescent fixture, ballast was being wanky on him and one tube would work right side up the other one would only work upside down in the fixture, after changing up the ballast for a different one the problem still there, so he changed up the wiring a bit and the problem just reversed the one upside down worked on the different socket in the fixture, soo this genius of a electrician started thinking out side the box and put in a LED new fixture inside our existing fixture so we could keep the old look with the modern LED lighting. I was very impressed with the unique way of solving the problem with getting up the modern LED light while letting us keep our fancy old school fixture, it fitted right in side. wow great job Cliff. read more

Unfortunately, had quite a negative experience. Our bath water had turned rusty, so we called Pete the Plumber. The employee came over and took a quick look and said that it would cost us at least $6,000 to replace our two hot water tanks and was really pushing a tankless system on us. I got a 2nd opinion and I'm so thankful I did because we only need a new Anode rod which was ~$130 + labour, for a total bill of about $300. I will not be calling Pete the Plumber in the future. read more

The second time we have used these guys, and I couldn't be more pleased. We had them in this time to replace two broken toilets, and they found another problem when they removed one of them. They consulted with us for approval. They had the parts they needed with them, and it was all completed quickly and professionally, with good clean up after. Replaced a standard delta cartridge (15-20mins) and unclogged a dishwasher drainage pipe (10-15mins). Cartridge was marked up very significantly versus any price I could find (I'll choose to be kind and not provide details here). Rounded up to 1 full hour and should have been closer to 30mins. Charged full service charge even though the job was easy and no diagnosis was needed. Although the job was completed and the tech was a nice guy, I feel that the pricing was painfully high. After chatting with management about the high price of the part and rounding up of the hours, they were inflexible with me and felt their pricing was reasonable. It's possible that it is lower than some others in Calgary, however, to me it is unreasonable. My feeling is that they do not value me as a customer, and thus I cannot recommend them. I value flexibility. I also understand that the market allows for very high rates for these services these days. I wish that respectful and fair conversations could result in a fair price. In the future I will choose a less expensive option or do it myself for such simple jobs and call someone else for something complex. read more

New hot water tank installed, now main shut off valve is inaccessible as new tank is much larger than the old tank. Called Service Manager who was EXTREMELY rude and estimated $900. for new shut off valve to be installed, when they shouldn't have left our house that way in the first place. No apology given, no discount offered. Called in another plumber who did for 2/3 of the price. Would NEVER call Pete the Plumber again. Word in the plumbing industry in Calgary is that their objective is to get one repair call from every property owner in Calgary, they do not care about repeat business - and this came straight from the owner's mouth. read more

I had a furnace installed in late October, I contacted Pete the Plumber decided to go with their recommended 'high end' model. This came with a price tag of $6.5. Fast forward about 6-weeks and heavens-forbid I decide to leave my house for a 48 hour period during a particularly bad cold snap. Upon return to the house I was welcomed with a broken furnace, broken appliances and frozen pipes/toilet. I called Pete the Plumber because of the "12 year" parts and labor warranty. The sent out the on-call guy who was not trained as a HVAC technician. It came as no surprise that he was unable to get the furnace up and running. The next day they did send out a tech who was trained in HVAC. This guy was very helpful and managed to get the furnace up and running. He said it was covered by warranty because it was a "factory defect". I then waited about 8 hours for the house to heat and the pipes/toilets to thaw out. I turned on the water, unfortunately this was when the pipes behind the shower in the master bath burst. Once again, I called Pete the Plumber only this time I was told that this was not their problem and if I wanted it fixed that day, it would cost several hundred dollars for a call out. At this point the conversation went back and forth with the service manager - I tried explaining that the pipes burst due to the the 6-week old furnace breaking down and the pipes froze solid as a result. I was dumbfounded to hear that their service manager could see no correlation between these events. I then contacted Big Hill Springs plumbing who sent a tech right away, and stopped the leak free of charge. I would not recommend Pete the plumber to anyone unless they like to end up out of pocket for a sub par product supplied by a sub par company. read more

The plumber left without without fixing the drain pipes for the furnace humidifier and furnace as well the drain pipe for the soft water softener. He stated it was Arpi's fault for running the pipes under the water tank which had legs and theirs tanks laid flat on the ground. I asked him to fix it as I would have water on the floor and under the tank causing rust. He claimed he did not have the tools to do polyB but I responded that Pete the Plumber organization had the tools. Note that for other than that specific plumbing, the rest of my house is copper. He would not respond and ignored two requests. When he later presented me the bill, I informed he I was only paying half until I was happy with the job then pay balance when rectified for the following reasons: 1. It was unprofessional to leave a job like that and not making any effort to remedy the situation 2 the drain pipe for the water softener which is a good foot away from the drain goes under high pressure when the system goes in flush cycle and I would have water all over the floor (worth noticing is the elbow at the end of pipe is pointing downward towards the floor & add a lot of pressure & we know what will happen. One must not forget that the plumber relocated the water softener to suit his purpose so to save on tank pipe reconfiguration. He also positioned the tank that anybody even not in construction trade would know it would create a second problem.) 3 I informed him that he very well knows that if the bottom of that tank is constantly under wet conditions, it would rust in no time at all. He only abruptly responded that there is absolutely nothing wrong with that job and immediately turn around & left saying that the office will contact you. To make matters worse, after he left, I went to turn on the hot water and nothing was coming out which means he left the cold water inlet valve turned off. If it would have been my wife, she would not have known what to do. Further, as the tank did not square off with the old one, I noticed after he left that he did not bother cleaning the rusty residue muck that was under the old tank and simply put the new tank on it. As you can pretty much see I would not recommend them. Worth noting is the plastic pipe for humidifier & furnace is not polyB as he wrongly elaborated only the softener portion is. read more

pre-When my original high efficiency, vented water heater finally died, I tried to get a couple of recommended plumbers to install a new one, but none could get the water heater and install it until 2-3 weeks. Pete took a week, and was cheaper. That was good. However, the "mighty Rheem" that Pete advertises is the noisiest unit I have ever heard and reverberates through the house; it is much noisier than my old water heater and even noisier than our furnace . Also, when they had to replace the old exhaust vent (now code requires a plastic vent pipe), they cut 5 large holes in the ceiling of 2 rooms in the basement, that I have to repair, at a cost estimated to be more than the water heater. No real planning as to how the exhaust could be installed, before they started cutting. I wish I had gone with someone with a plumber that was more professional and experienced. read more

We just had a Reverse Osmosis water filter installed to replace an existing unit. I had purchased one from Costco and Pete said he could install that one or install a unit that he supplied and include a 2 year warranty. His price was the same as the Costco unit so we went that way. Sorry to ramble on but we had another plumber here before Pete and his price was 120% more than Pete's price??? I love it when a service person does a great job - I wish I could say that about Pete The Plumber. Especially when you watch the news on TV, and the ad comes up about Pete The Plumber, I have to relive the crappy job experience, again and again. What was done wrong? A simple job of a water tap replacement: it was put on backwards! So from the cold water tap you get hot water, and from the hot tap - you guessed it - cold. The need of having the tap replaced arose when a leak was discovered under the sink. After the job, there're now two steady leaks: one on the surface of the tap, the other one - under the sink. My furnace died on Monday. I called Pete the Plumber, from the very start Loretta was amazing and had me booked for someone to come out an hour later. Shawn arrived an hour later and quickly diagnosed I would be buying a new furnace. He had the quote out in no time. While waiting another gentlemen arrived with three heaters as it was cold inside and I was also worried about my pipes. I choose the furnace I wanted. The Trane worked for us. Shawn was back this morning to install it with Craig. By 1:30 I had a new furnace, CO monitors. It was simply amazing how quick they got this done. Last year I did a renovation where I had PTP come in and give a quote to do the plumming. My uncle, a carpenter by trade, oversaw the quote and was impressed by the gentlemen they sent over. Day of installation one month later, a VERY VERY junior installer shows up and bascially my uncle had to tell the guy what to do and where to put the pipes and how even to install them. We were worried the installer did a poor job as we were not able to oversee everything he did. But there were no leaks and everything seemed ok. This past winter, 6 months post install, one of the PTP installed pipes froze. My uncle came over and noticed their plumber had installed the pipe in behind insulation, not in front of it - as a result, when it got really cold, the pipe was touching the foundation concrete which is really bad during the winter...duh! I had to completely redo half the work that I did. I could of called PTP but after their last work and the junior they sent over, they're not touching my house pipes again. Pete the Plumber came to our rescue!! TWICE!! Our first incident was when our hot water tank just gave up and did not give us any hot water. We got it replaced with no problems and they were quite reasonable in price. 2nd time with Pete the Plumber was just the wee hours of this morning. Our humidifier sprung a leak with water shooting out everywhere!! We had a service agreement with another company who refused to come. We then called Pete the Plumber and the on-call tech, Peter, came within the hour @ 12:45 a.m. We were so relieved! I recommend Pete the Plumber to anyone. read more

Being an adult is super awesome. You can buy cars and houses! And then, when your cars get hail damage and your sink backs up, you get to pay to have them both fixed! After living in my house for about four months, my sink decided to kick the bucket. We'd run water and it would come straight back up and fill the sink, carrying with it the bittersweet memories of bits of food we'd hoped to never see again in our lives. Enter: The DIY plumbing adventure. I like to try and solve problems before forking out cash to have someone fix it for me. First, we hired LIQUID PLUMBER! We eagerly anticipated the concoction flying through my pipes like a psychotic Italian Mario, bashing grime on the head and clearing any leaks. That's not what happened. Things didn't improve in the slightest. Score one: old plumbing. My roommate and I disassembled the pipes under the sink, only to find they were completely clear. Curious. We then took off one of the pipes a little further back - to find it full of gray goo. We cleaned this one too and decided to run the crappy $4.00 snake we bought at Canadian Tire through it. The snake broke immediately and wouldn't go around any corners. Score two: old plumbing. When that failed, it was time for a bigger snake. But first, I read on the internet that maybe a bird had come to live in my plumbing vent. After cleaning out the horrific bird's nest in my STOVE vent (which has NOTHING to do with plumbing), my plumbing problem stayed the exact same (and I felt a bit foolish for not knowing how to tell the difference between the two vents). Score three: old plumbing. Finally, the snake. We ran it 15 feet into my house before realizing it was coming out of my roof. Yup, it had gone UP the pipes instead of down and was now stuck sticking out of the top of my house. We freed it from its confines, hanging our heads in shame. Score four: old plumbing. We snaked it just one more time, but hit a tiny little u-bend that it couldn't go around. No clogs we could feel, and no grime coming back. Score 5: old plumbing. Discouraged, we reassembled the pipes, only to have them leak like the eyes of a single girl watching the notebook. Score... screw it, I'm done counting. We went and bought Teflon tape and new O-rings. Reconfigured everything. Reassembled. Only one small leak now. Well, two - I was also crying a bit. Stupid, STUPID plumbing. So we called Pete The Plumber and waited two days (they're a busy little shop!). They showed up 7 minutes early (I frantically ran to the door from my shower, a sight which I'm sure none of us enjoyed), snaked my pipes to 40 feet, took all of 30 minutes and left me with a functioning sink. HOORAY PETE! Now - why two of them had to show up, I'm not entirely sure. They were pleasant guys, but I don't know why it takes two of you to shove a snake down my pipes. Still, they got the job done and left me with a $161 bill, which isn't cheap, but isn't absurd. Long story short: Don't waste 5+ hours of your own time. Call someone with a mechanical snake who can enable you to wash dishes again. Pete was good; I might try someone else next time just to see if I can save a bit of cash, but their service was prompt, plumbers friendly and results speak for themselves. read more

Monthly I get hit with advertising from one company in particular (Ace Plumbing). I don't wish to give my business to someone just because they send me some form of propaganda. However a company needs to get their name out there some way (I understand). Ace does the mail out thing monthly and Pete the Plumber is one I recall from the golf ball toilet commercials (you remember?). Well I did my research (online) and found Pete the Plumber to have reasonable reviews overall (all companies have problems at some time). Today they came by during the time they were supposed to come by. Everything was professional and friendly. The plumber knew what he was doing and got the job done quickly. Wayne fixed and replaced a burst pipe that led to my front yard. I wanted a tap installed that would allow me to drain the tap and shut it off from inside the house. As well I wanted a self draining tap for the outside of the house. This way I can be sure the line is drained and the line that is close to the cold areas (that wouldn't receive much heat) could be kept drained when needed and not run the risk of damage again (bursting). Kind of like double security or protection like companies such as BP should have done to prevent the major disaster they created in the Gulf because they didn't want to put an extra line of protection in when they should have. The price I paid was $150 less than what I would have had to pay Ace Plumbing and they were not just willing, but encouraged me to have the installation done they way I did it because Ace Plumbing is like BP in that they feel it is senseless to have an extra line of protection when it comes to plumbing. I am happy with the service I received but I feel the company needs to get with the program a little when it comes to paying for things. I am not comfortable allowing a company to take an impression of my credit card, and I don't like writing cheques either. It would be nice if I could have payed for the service from their website through Pay Pal or something. Or able to pay the way I wanted with an email money transfer. If the company were a little more with the times and accepted other forms of payments, than I would have given them a 5 STAR rating. The following Monday, Good News, Terri from Pete the Plumber contacted me today and let me know that they do accept email money transfers. She also let me know she forwarded a notice to each of her employees to let them know that they need to accept this form of payment and how to do it. So now these guys get a 5 STAR from me read more

I had a huge leaking, which damaged a newly renovated flooring and basement. I called to Clearview Plumbing, they arrived 2 hours after the call and charged $212 for nothing, just gave some advice as to invite the insurance company, to replace the water system as the house is already 30 years old and to stay positive (!!). For 15 minutes talking about the general problems with leaking in old houses and quality the homes he has to visit he charged us for 48 minutes!! He said I can't do anything before your insurance company representative visit you. I was experiencing problems with my soft water and called Pete the Plumber. I had some questions as to what would be recommended, so was put through to Pete directly. He recommended a new soft water machine and iron filtration system since we live on an acreage property. The install was booked within a couple of weeks. The day of the install technician Zach and an apprentice came and we all discussed together the placement of the new equipment since there were 3 additional pieces that would need to be installed in place of my old water softener and we needed adequate space. As you can see from the photo of the equipment, they needed a lot of space. They hauled the equipment down to the basement, complaining about how heavy it was. I offered them a drink, and brought them coffee down to the basement. I later returned to check on how they were doing and Zach complained about the girl who booked this appointment in. He complained that it was a 6 hour job and she only booked it for 3. He was upset with her, but that wasn't my fault. I went back upstairs and left them to it. Later I went to check on them again and they were installing the equipment in a very tight space between the sump pump and the furnace, contrary to what we had discussed before the job began. I questioned why they were installing it there, and explained that this is not what we had discussed, and in fact I would not be able to change the furnace filter nor remove the lid to my sump pump for servicing, let alone being able to access the softener to add the salt, etc. Zach got very angry and stated that he was installing it there because it was easier for him. I told him that I didn't want it there, that it wouldn't fit, and that it needed to be installed where there was more space as we had already discussed. He got very angry and told me that if he was going to move it, he was going to tack another $300 onto my bill. I told him I was not comfortable with him installing the equipment at all any more, that he was fired, and he needed to leave the property and take the equipment with him. I informed them that I needed to leave the house in half an hour to take my homeschooled children to chess. I left them alone. 20 minutes later they still were downstairs doing god knows what, but they hadn't started hauling their equipment or any of their tools out. I went back downstairs and asked what was taking them so long to leave. Zach told me very rudely that they weren't hauling the equipment back up the stairs and were finishing the job. I told him to leave immediately. They refused again. I screamed at them and told them that they had 10 minutes to get out of my house or I was calling RCMP. Finally they listened and left the house, stating that they were not turning our water back on for us. They left the house, however they remained parked inside the property, inside the gate and fence, and wouldn't leave. Zach informed me that he called Pete directly, and Pete told him not to leave unless he had a cheque for the full amount in hand. I refused, and told him to have Pete call me directly. Because I needed to leave, I had to leave the gate to my property open so they could get out and would not be trapped in, and therefore I needed to get my 2 large acreage dogs into my vehicle so I could leave with my kids so they wouldn't run away when we left with the open gate. When we returned home later, they were gone, They left us without water connection for the night, so the next day I called another plumbing company to come out to help us. I never did hear from Pete or anyone from the company until we received a notice from Land Titles that they had placed a writ on the property title. I contacted Pete the Plumber and was put in touch with their court agent, who had gone to court to obtain a default judgement, by serving it to an incorrect address. I hired a court agent costing several hundred dollars to have this judgement reversed, and finally will to attend court to defend my position against this company. read more

We needed a new kitchen faucet and my shower head had no pressure. Pete arrived on time and now it is a delight to take a shower and to turn the water in my kitchen sink on and off. Only downside is that he forgot to reconnect the 'dishwasher drain hose' to the garbage disposal so we have water from the dishwasher leaking in the basement. He is coming over to reconnect.
