We just used Pete the Plumber for the first time and they were awesome. Jimmy N was our service provider and he did a great job. After the work was complete he gave me a full tutorial on how to drain our hot water tank etc. Jimmy also went above and beyond by helping push our broken down jeep back into the driveway and off the sidewalk. As much as I like Pete's commercial I found their installation rates outrageous. I have therefore cancelled my contact with them.

They only care about customers if YOU fit into their schedule. Case in point.... My son had a PEX pipe fail with a pin hole leak. This was in the cold water supply to the entire house. Phoned and was told that it would be a week before someone could come out. After explaining that they had a brand new baby and that they could only turn on the water for a minute maximum (and then have to mop up) they were still told it would be a week. It seems that their frenetic pace plumbers are put through have no openings for emergencies. read more

I'd like to give zero stars but that is not an option. My son had a pinhole leak in the PEX line that supplies his whole house. Called PtP due to all the advertising on TV. They were told 1 week. They could turn the water on low for a minute just to fill a glass or flush a toilet. That 1 minute required 5 minutes to mop up all the water that had leaked. After explaining that they had a brand new baby and couldn't wait a week the staff said it will still be 1 week. No suggestions, take it or leave it. I guess that there is no room in the frenetic schedule for the installers to take care of emergencies. read more

I emailed them on their website expecting to hear back tomorrow, as today is Sunday, but got a call within 30 minutes. I called Petes to inquire about getting my dishwasher fixed. They advised that there's a $60 service call fee and $55 for every half hour after that. I called several other places and this was still the best rate so I booked them in thinking it would still be more when it was all said and done. Nope! I had the pleasure of getting Craig who showed up right on time, fixed the problem and handed me a bill for $119 including tax. He left me a very satisfied customer and I would use them again in a heartbeat. read more

I recently bought a humidifier for our furnace from Home Depot and afte the installation found out that the model I bought wasn't compatible with our furnace. I had Pete the plumber come out to see if they could do some bypass wiring to make it work. They said it couldn't be done. They did however recommend one of their own. At first I was sceptical thinking i was about to be gouged for two visits, a take down of the one I installed and an install off the new one. Nope, the tech told me that that visit would be free of charge, they would take down the existing one free of charge as well. This was impressive. They returned the next week and did a professional job at a reasonable price. I was also able to return the one I bought from Home Depot for a refund. Overall a good experience. I will use them again if in need of heating or plumbing services. read more

Strange, to say the least! As I would recommend this business for excellent work for a reasonable price I have my trepidation about their behaviour. I had bought and installed an $8000 furnace system about two years ago and needed a simple Fresh Air Intake Damper installed because I couldn't find any installation that would operate such a device. I called for someone to come out and give me an estimate. It turned out that they were asking for a ridiculously expensive price for this damper which I could have bought for much cheaper at Home Depot. In the meantime, I checked this installation out and it turned out that they had installed such a device during the original installation but in such a manner that it could not be seen nor operated without removing a bunch of stuff. Anyway, I had an argument with someone at the office of Pete the Plumber and refused the estimate (as it is my right). I can't remember all the details, but I am sure that I got into an argument with this lady. Now, just a week ago I wanted them to give me an estimate on a Bathroom drain installation. Here I was told that they put a note on my file that said that they would "not do any new installations" for me anymore and just would take care of the Warranties on the previously installed equipment. A strange thing to do for any business in my book. I had been in construction for over forty years myself and built a whole Service department for a smaller builder during the 1990s. In the whole forty-some years I had about four or five customers that gave me, or I gave some trouble and still serviced them without fail. The Customer is King in my book. I talked to Pete about this myself, and he said that he did not know about this and this made it even stranger. He was to talk to his staff about this the next morning and get back to me which he didn't after I sent him an email pertaining to this strange behaviour. I have dealt with many businesses and customers during the forty years of operation (retired at present) but I never had anything like this happen. So please draw your own conclusion! read more

Pete the Plumber and his crew have saved our family multiple times now! The last time, our furnace gave out in the middle of a -20 cold snap. I didn't immediately think of a plumbing company, but after two other companies said they were coming and never showed, I went on Pete's website, and thank goodness! They do furnaces too! Being Remembrance Day, the on-call plumber's schedule was already full with frozen pipes, but he was not only nice enough to recommend a more reliable company, he personally called someone he knew there after taking my name and number, and they showed up within two hours to fix the furnace! That's true service! The time before, we had a mystery leak coming from the bulkhead in the ceiling in our basement. It wasn't obvious where the water was coming from, and the on-call plumber (again, this was on a weekend) had to make a few cuts in the bulkhead to see what was going on. He didn't make any holes without asking, and he only did the basic amount of work required to get the leak stopped, then suggested that he come back during regular business hours when the labour would be cheaper to properly run the new pipe. It's not every day businesses are looking out for your cost, not just theirs. Pete the Plumber may not have the lowest hourly rates in town, but their service and great staff more than make up for it. They are definitely the first ones we call for any plumbing or heating problems. read more

My advice is to find another plumber. We had Pete the Plumber come in to replace a leak on a hot water line and it is still leaking. They also recommended we install one of their reverse osmosis systems but after it was installed we were unable to get enough water pressure. So they had to come back and bypass the RO system. I called the service desk to complain and hoped at least for a refund on the RO system that does not work. We never heard back from them so that should speak volumes as to how they treat their customers. read more

Our hot water heater sprung a leak from the bottom of the tank and we called Pete the Plumber to fix it. While the repair person was there, I asked what kind of shape the tank was in and if we should look into replacing it, or perhaps drain it. He said everything was fine. Three days later the entire bottom of the tank let loose and we had to replace the entire tank. We had Home Depot do it as that's where we got the tank. I called Pete the Plumber to ask for a refund on the work that was done under warranty as it was a complete waste of money and showed a lack of experience, but the supervisor refused and was very rude. read more

Firstly, this is not a recent experience. I bought my home in 2007. The first few months water was leaking from the bathroom into the ceiling of the living room one floor down. Pete the Plumber was one of the first companies I called. And for a pretty lofty fee, they put a wax ring around the toilet. And less than a year later, the exact same thing happened. And they came back and charged me another lofty fee to tell me the problem was permanently fixed. I called a different plumber and they told me I bought a house that had a floor that was rotting. Pete the Plumber refused to refund me and told me I was being unfair to expect a wax ring for the second time in a year for less. I believe they knew the floor was rotting but would continue charging me an arm and leg to band aid the problem. I fixed the floor and the leaking in 10 years stopped. If I had continued calling Pete they would have done 0 to solve the real problem and charge me an arm and leg to band aid the problem as it got worse. This company sucks, it's run by money grubbers that don't care if they gets away with ripping customers off. I will never use them again. read more

Avoid these guys, get prices elsewhere, try to rip off those in need. I needed a hot water tank replaced right at start of the flooding... Called at 4:30 asking for a price and a time, was told $1100 for a 60 gal, reasonable price, but then informed was a 3 day wait...I asked if I could book an emergency service and the cost...she said $100 more, so $1200 roughly, but she couldnt book it..I had to call back at 5pm. I call back at 5pm...speak with the after hrs booking, he says a plumber will call me soon..he did, and guess what, that price of $1200 jumped to $1800...he had a thousand and one reasons for the price GOUGE, even stating the girls that answer the phone don`t know what their talking about. I eventually just had to state there was no point in keeping the conversation going, he rambled on and on. I know when I`m being GOUGED, and had to just hang up on him. This may be the biggest in the city, but far from the best..I ended up with a 60gal, installed as an emergency for $1400..from a different company of course !!! read more

Pete the Plumber is terrible - a real rip-off, poor service, poorer reactions to request to repair the damage they did to my floor when they tried to install my water heater. I will NEVER use these guys again - what a disappointment! Unethical business practices, unprofessional workers, filthy and dirty language and the mess left afterwards was awful. We had a furnace in one of our rental units go out today. I called the emergency line, had a very kind man asking for details and booked the service for 6pm. At 6:20pm I got a call from the tech who not only wasn't at the site, but went to great lengths to provide a litany of reasons why we should call somebody else. We've called Pete the Plumber twice over the past five years. Once was to have a dishwasher and two toilets installed. The second time was to have a new hot water heater installed. Both times they arrived on time, did their work, were pleasant and polite and cleaned up after themselves. We had one issue with the bill, so we called to inquire and it was fixed immediately. * If you want to hire a company that comes to your house and charges you to fix parts that aren't even broken, use Pete the Plumber. If you want a company that has to return two months later to ACTUALLY fix the broken part of your hot water tank and charges you AGAIN for new/different part and Labor, only to have to wait over a month for the refund of the warrantied part, (bc they make you pay up front and they refund you when they get paid by the parts company) then phone Pete. The customer convenience to this ridiculous policy absolutely sucks. The guy that fixed (both times) my hot water tank was nice...that is about the ONLY good thing I will say about this company besides the fact that its a total rip off and the customer service on a scale of 1-10 is a 2 at best. SO if I was you I would by pass Pete and find another company that isn't money hungry and actually cares about helping a customer out. What a nightmare. We were looking to install a one piece tub/shower combo so we went to Pete the Plumber's showroom to see what they had. We ended up booking an estimator to come out and take a look and get some measurements because we were pretty sure we wanted to go ahead with the purchase. When the estimator, Mike, came out he was quite rude and impatient and he made it very clear that he did not want to be there. He even said "I don't know why they sent me out here". He spent about 4 minutes in the bathroom and took a couple of measurements. I specifically asked him if we would need to get new flooring after the old tub was removed and the new one put in and he said that there would only be a small gap that could be filled with silicone so we wouldn't need new flooring. I should have gone with my instincts at that time and not gone ahead with the job just based on the estimator's lack of professionalism and bad attitude. But I didn't and we went ahead with the order. After the tub installers were done the installation we ended up with a 2.5 inch gap between the edge of our flooring and the new tub - I'm not sure how that would be taken care of with some silicone. The friendly but clueless plumbers who were installing the tub suggested that we just cover it up with some baseboard. After the installation we also ended up with a 2-3 inch hole all around the top of the tub surround where they had cut out the drywall. So we needed to get someone in to repair the drywall and tile around the tub. The first contractor who came out (and was recommended to us by Pete the Plumber) said that the tub was installed poorly and should never have been installed in our bathroom. He said the best option would be to tear out the tub and put a different model in without the attached surround. This was because apparently our studs in one wall were not entirely level so the plumbers used a piece of wood as a shim on one end, which pushed the tub out quite a bit past the existing drywall. The contractor said that there would be no way to do a professional finishing job and it would look pretty bad if he were to do it. I contacted Pete the Plumber and told them about this and also provided them with the contractor's written opinion. They said "you asked for a tub and we installed a tub". I was totally unhappy with this since they are the professionals and they should have mentioned something about the fact that they were going to have to shim the surround before they went ahead with the install. Pete the Plumber said we should get a second opinion. In the meantime we decided that we could at least try out the tub for a bath, so we did and that's when we noticed water coming through our basement ceiling, leaking from the bathroom above. As it turns out, they hadn't connected the pipes for the overflow drain on the tub at all. It wasn't just a leaky seal the pipes were totally unconnected! By this time I was so fed up with Pete the Plumber that a family member who is a plumber was able to fix it for me. He also mentioned what a botched job the tub install was. We had two more contractors in to see the tub before we were able to get the drywall work started and both commented on the bad installation job that was done by Pete the Plumber. As of today, it has been just over a month and a half since we had the tub installed and I was finally able to have my first shower in it this morning. But wait, there's more - the shower head installed by Pete the Plumber is faulty and none of the settings work. Water only comes out of a fraction of the holes. I phoned Pete the Plumber and they say they are coming to replace it in a couple of days. So at this point we were able to get our drywall and tiling done, but it is not done properly due to the way the tub was originally installed. It looks okay and the contractor did the best he could do, but for the amount of money that we ended up spending it's a real disappointment to see that the drywall and tiling had to be done in a way that doesn't look quite right. We've pretty much decided that this is just a temporary bathroom renovation (even though in the end it ended up costing us about $5000) because it's just not up to snuff. It's a real shame considering our original quote from Pete the Plumber was $2200 and we were planning on getting the tub done first and then redoing the rest of the bathroom later. Now we are going to have to replace the tub, tiles and new flooring in a few years when we can afford to re-do the work that Pete the Plumber totally botched for us. When I contacted them with each new problem they were understanding but not helpful and left me feeling like they really didn't care too much. I feel totally ripped off and like I wasted a bunch of money on an amateur renovation. I would never, ever recommend Pete the Plumber to anyone.....ever. read more

Plumber didn't order the part in advance and so wasted my time off I had taken from work. Then booked another day when he had the part and he installed incorrectly - could not get the tank systems up. Turns out he had put power to incorrect components on my gas fired hot water tank. Then he blamed the house wiring (which was the same wiring that the unit was using since home was built). Was rude and there were 'volume' issues. Left abruptly and didn't even close the panels to the gas valve/controller or the gas part of the tank assembly. I searched the internet and confirmed against the wiring diagram that this guy was out to lunch. How could a plumber not know that black wire is for line and white wire is for neutral, and that you don't bypass a gas controller by hard wire a gas igniter directly from power? Very dissatisfied. Was late, was rude, was loud, didn't do his job, and with bad wiring on a gas appliance put my family in danger. Others may have had better experiences, but the gravity of the incompetence has me suggesting to stay far away! If you do still go with Pete the Plumber, make sure you don't get Bob. read more
