I couldn't be happier with my experience with Pet Connect Rescue! I put in applications for a number of other dogs and was shocked by how many just wanted me to take a dog with no reference, Vet or home check. I won't work with a group who doesn't care where an animal is going. This rescue did all of their due diligence to ensure that I am a responsible owner and that makes me very happy to support this organization. My coordinator was exceptionally responsive and always had the best interest of the dog at heart. I couldn't be more in love with our new puppy! As for the poor reviews, I think many people expect this to be an easy and quick process - it shouldn't be. A new pet is a big commitment and it's worth the effort. I'd very happily work with this group again.

I Love PetConnect!! They are very organized and well run rescue group who work hard to save countless animals in need of homes! From fun adoption events to fundraisers with local businesses, there are always opportunities to become involved. I am a current foster/volunteer with this rescue group. Fostering with PCR is a great experience as they have such a great network of resources and always available to help out when needed. If you are looking to rescue a pet, the adoption coordinators at PetConnect will with with you to ensure your new family member fits well your lifestyle. Thanks for being such a great organization!

Our best buddy, back when we had just brought him home!

My experience with Lara and Shera was unfortunately not a good one…read more Lara, our assigned trainer, presented me with a prong collar at the initial assessment for our 35lb basset hound and told me that this was an "essential training tool" that is "very common". We found out later that this was not true - in fact, most people were horrified that we had allowed our dog to be trained this way. I'll front this by saying my husband and I did not do a whole lot of research on different training methods beforehand and are first-time dog owners, but looking back, we really wish we had pushed back on this. The combination of the collar and Lara's request to withhold all dry food except in training turned our formerly sweet and scared dog into an aggressive food guarder who was still scared to go on walks, but now growled and snapped at our cats. After 4 sessions, we consulted a behaviorist and told Lara and Shera we would be switching to another trainer on their recommendation. We received very defensive emails from both of them about the impropriety of seeing a behaviorist without their knowledge(!), but Shera agreed to refund our remaining sessions. When we still hadn't received a check five weeks later, I sent a follow-up and got back a reply complaining about my "combative" attitude (though she did then promptly issue a refund through PayPal.). Grateful to finally be done with them.

Shera at Pawfect Pups is the best!…read more We started training sessions for our dog Maggie when she was just 3 months old. I thought it was too early, but my husband convinced me that the earlier the better and he was right! We did a lot of research on yelp and other sources. The reviews we read about Pawfect Pups made us feel like there was something different about Pawfect Pups. Shera did such a great job addressing our problem areas at each session and worked with all of us to teach Maggie commands. Before we started, Maggie was a pretty stubborn little puppy and she was biting on pant legs, socks, blankets, and even my hair, snatching up any food that was dropped on the floor. Shera helped us work with Maggie to fix those habits and even taught us a variety of commands. Each session was focused on Maggie's concerns. I never felt like she was following a curriculum. Everything was very customized for our pup. We also really liked that we were an active part of each training session. People always compliment us on how well behaved Maggie is. My husband and I tell each other over and over again that finding Pawfect Pups was the best thing. Thanks Shera!

Although she runs a non-profit horse rescue and had more than adequate space and means to care for the goats (she was the one who initially gave us the goats) her disdain for me left them treated like red headed step children (no offense to gingers). She wouldn't allow me to visit them and refused to put anything in their pen for them to climb on (NDG's love to climb). She constantly complained to my Wife about how much she hated them and wanted them gone. This went on for almost a year. After tirelessly searching for a new happy & healthy home and calling every animal rescue and sanctuary I could find I found Poplar Spring. Terry let me know that they were at max capacity but to send pics and info on Pip & Lola and she would help me find them a home. After sending her the info and explaining our situation she offered to go out of her way to make room for them. I reached out (via 3rd party) to the evil Mother-in-law who I thought would be over joyed to rid her herself of them. Of course she couldn't be bothered to use HER animal non-profit's truck, trailer or fuel to transport them to Poplar Spring so Terry & her Husband stepped up EVEN FURTHER and the NEXT DAY drove 2 1/2 hours to pick them up. Terry sent me pictures of them once they arrived and I couldn't contain my emotions. I had felt like I failed these 2 wonderful creatures. I'd still be feeling that way if it wasn't for Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary. Your support and charitable donations couldn't go to a better non-profit. One that GENUINELY cares about the animals. I look forward to making the trip out to visit them soon. Thanks Terry & Co.

I came for an event called "Thanksgiving WITH The Turkeys" and had an amazing time! Very kids friendly. Animals are enclosed in very wide areas and even often roam free through the sanctuary. I'm due with my first child in April and plan to homeschool. I look forward to being my little one here to teach him about animal liberation, welfare, and veganism. Informative staff with great background knowledge on all the animals, and a beautiful, natural habitat to explore!

I'm sharing this in hopes of saving someone else the heartbreak and frustration we've experienced…read more Please think twice before adopting from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue. This organization misled us from the start. They were not honest about the breed of the puppy we adopted, and they failed to disclose serious pre-existing medical conditions. We later found out they didn't give our puppy his proper initial vaccinations or fully deworm him before adoption. They waited several hours after the adoption to send over his medical records--which revealed he had been diagnosed with hookworm and roundworm, and had only received a single dose of medication with no follow-up. After a vet visit, we found out he was also positive for tapeworm and Giardia. On top of that, he was underweight for his age. When we reached out to the foster, they admitted to feeding six puppies from one trough and "letting them fight it out" for food--completely unacceptable and neglectful. My vet said this rescue has a poor reputation for a reason. They do not properly care for their animals, and it shows. To make matters worse, we've been told they block adopters and delete negative reviews on Facebook to avoid accountability. That alone says everything. This organization needs to be held responsible for the way they're handling these vulnerable animals and misleading loving adopters. Please do your research and advocate for these animals who deserve better

Hey everyone! Please use caution when adopting a pet from this rescue. They lied about our dog's…read moremedical conditions, not even disclosing it until after the adoption was complete. They fail to provide a complete copy of the contracts you sign and then claim to refer to it for terms/conditions. They ignore the disclosure that you have 14 days to return if the home doesn't work out for you or the animal. They only care about your money. They mislead you on the adoption application for any specific animal, and they force you to attend the adoption events with no guarantees. It is all a bait-and-switch. It's terrible for the animals, as they are seen as just profit for these people. It's also bad for the families, because if things don't work for any reason, they won't allow you to find them a better home and they will not help facilitate taking them back. When you try to call them out, they just block you. It is all unprofessional and messed up. We have dogs and we love them dearly, but sadly things don't always work out. Unfortunately, this organization doesn't care at all. All I'm saying is to be cautious, because these people don't care.
