    Post grooming with Destinee!
    Valerie N.

I love getting my pug groomed at this Petco location. The entire team is great but wanted to shout out the wonderful Destinee! She takes the time with my dog to ensure she has the most wonderful grooming day. Destinee remembers my dog's likes and dislikes I don't even have to remind her. The care that is put into my dog's grooming is top notched. My dog is in great hands when she comes to this Petco. I recommend this location to every dog owner.

First 60 people at 2pm did not get a free gift bag

I went to Petco for their 60th birthday event at 2 PM. I arrived a few minutes early, checked out at 2:07 PM after allowing my dog to pick a bag of treats, and was told the giveaway bags were already gone. That seems unlikely since there were maybe 10 people total in the store and only one other person brought a dog. It felt like they started giving them out before the advertised time. There were not 60¢ toys. Only saw 60¢ dog cookies (shaped like turkeys and footballs at the counter), there wasn't much happening. I even got my dog ready for what was supposed to be a fun event, and it ended up being very underwhelming. No pup cups, games, activities, giveaways... basically no event for their 60TH birthday celebration. Overall, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way for their "events" based on this experience. We were looking forward to this event for some time and they did not deliver.

AFTER PHOTO: Horrendous hair cut. Less than a quarter inch left on him. He was so sad and lethargic the rest of the day.

Public published review 11/10/24 I have a golden doodle that looked like a teddy. While checking in, I noticed a groomer be rude to one of the dogs she was grooming. Lucky me, that was my dog's groomer, (Petco on WestShore south Tampa). I had told her what I wanted, which was a trim and for him to still look like a teddy. It was his first grooming experience. She told me that his fur is knotted and that she can't brush it but that she had to cut it short, and that she would leave his tail and face looking like a teddy. She was very condescending during our conversation, and the other groomers could tell she was agitated with me and refused to do the cut I requested. I told her what I wanted. 4+hr later, his fur completely shaved off. The fur on top of his head was so uneven. My pup was acting like if he was treated badly and was lethargic the entire ride home and the rest of the night. Even my friend noticed how he wasn't acting like his usual self. He was quiet and he was covering his face. Doodles are known for being very happy and loving. They act like humans sometimes which makes it easy to read their body language. These groomers need to be taught how to be respectful to the customers and to the dogs. I know for a fact, she purposely and maliciously shaved my dog's entire fur off because of our drop off interaction. She's lucky I didn't make a huge scene when I picked up my dog. He was unrecognizable!! I even said "THAT's MY DOG!????? Are you sure!! He looks like a rat! I attached the before and after photos. NEVER AGAIN! She needs some better training. She shouldn't be working with dogs until she has completed proper customer interaction classes and dog care.

Terrible Grooming Department. Wish I could give zero stars I have been taking my dog Lilly to get groomed for the last 7 years. She suffers from anxiety and our vet put her on an anti anxiety med for when we travel or goes to grooming. Our last visit I made a grooming appointment and when we showed up they told me I required a letter from my doctor saying. I wish they would have told me this prior to booking my appointment. Frustrated, I asked if it would be possible to get a verbal "ok" from our vets office over the phone but they said no. I immediately called Banfield and they had a letter written for me and I came and picked it up. Upon bringing it back to Petco, they still would not accept it because it was not hand written but typed and printed on Banfield Per Hospital letterhead. I can understand and completely appreciate pet safety and taking extra measures to insure pet safety but I can't understand why my letter would not be accepted especially if it was hand signed and in Banfield letterhead. I was mad and left. Promised myself that I would never go back here. The people were rude and their policy is ridiculous. Flash forward to today. I decided to try and make an appointment again at petco. I decided to not give Lilly trazodone today. She's usually fine not in the medication the only thing that happens when she's anxious is she may get diarrhea. When I called to make an appointment they refuse to see her because I don't have a letter saying that she no longer requires as trazadone prescription. I'm like, well this is an as needed prescription similar to a Xanax. She will always have this prescription on file but she doesn't take it daily (honestly is maybe more like once monthly). So petco refuses to groom my dog because she has a prescription on her file. They also refuse to see any pet that takes any kind of medication without a vet letter. So if it's an as needed medication and your dog is not on the medication currently, you have to provide evidence from your vet that the medication is no longer in their system. I thought there was some kind of miscommunication in my end. So when I spoke to the manager she confirmed this info. I was to the point that how they treated me, I would be worried they would treat my dog terribly too. Well, petco... you have lost yourself a loyal customer. Back to pet smart and royal pets!

This grooming department is the best I have ever seen in the last 18 years at this Petco. Andrea is absolutely fabulous! The entire teamwell-managed, clean and it smells nice. My pup got $170 spa job for $25. I am so glad that I rediscovered Petco and now we have a Grooming home. Now with the money we saved we can have more pupventures. Thanks to the team at Petco

Clark is great and definitely know their stuff! Sanchez was there for about 8-9 months with weekly visits/training classes for ourselves. We have had Sanchez home for about 2 months now. He is like a new dog. He does not have any desire to hump the other dogs. He really doesn't want anything to do with them in terms of messing with them. They can all lay beside each other and nothing bad happens. Yes, the training can look a bit rough, but that's because we haven't done training on any of our dogs and it was new to us. The program was definitely worth the money. Sanchez is super obedient now and life is great. Thank you Sit & Stay Academy!!

Brent showed up on the day of pickup and walked me through the process of what to expect during the time he would be training Kona and what kind of updates I would get. I got daily pictures and updates on his status. All I can say is wow, when Kona came back, he was a different dog. Brent spent about 2.5 hours with my family explaining how to integrate the training he used into our lives and how to use the tools he provided us with to make sure Kona succeeds. I think he trains the owners more than the dogs (lol). After we went through his training it was time to put it to use, he had my wife, and I walk Kona, and he gave us tips on how to correct behavior and relax and enjoy the walk. Thank you to Brent and his staff for helping us help Kona be a successful rescue and a huge part of our family.

Our dog went through professional behavioral training through another company years ago. He had a solid baseline for learning and commands (sit, heal, place, etc.). Our primary issue was our dog's reactivity. We needed more help on how we as owners could manage this better. We decided to go with Ridgeside K-9 based on their stellar reviews and 4 week behavior modification board and train. Brent picked our dog up and was very thorough on what the plan was. We received a picture/video just about every evening with minimal communication attached. We were trusting their process. During the turn over, everything went well. We did notice our dog had lost a good amount of weight. He was never over weight by any means, but now we can really feel his ribs, spine, and hip bones. Nothing unhealthy though. We also noticed his bark was very different, and we figured it was due to him barking in the kennel during the turn over. Just over a week went by, and our dog's bark was still extremely weak. That coupled with our dog's weight loss had us a little uneasy. When confronting Brent over a phone call out of concern for our dog he became extremely defensive. He heatedly said our dog about drove him insane for 2 weeks due to his barking (which he never thought to mention previously), and then asked if we see a difference in him considering the training. I said not significantly. As mentioned, we've worked our dog for years, and the technique Brent taught us regarding our dog's reactivity is new to us. It had been just over a week and we were still learning to manage and get the results we need. However, before I could elaborate on any of this Brent completely flew off the handle. He was literally YELLING at me over the phone, saying I don't know what I'm talking about, we are the problem, and that I am a person who worries too much. I simply wanted to talk to him out of concern for my dog, and I felt like that meant nothing to him. My husband intervened on the phone due to Brent's disrespect toward me and it only got worse from there. We didn't get a hint of this instability throughout our prior interactions with Brent, and this left both of us completely in shock. Once things cooled down, Brent went back into a mode of wanting to help. Although this was appreciated, the damage was done. Brent has a lot of passion and pride in his work, but his temper concerns us greatly. It was like a switch, and there was ABSOLUTELY no excuse for that level of disrespect towards us.
