I wish I could give this location zero stars!!! There was an old man working there, I asked him about fish flakes he told me to go look for the other worker. My sister asked about the flea topical ointment and once again he knew nothing. When I found the other worker she said he doesn't know much about animals, I'm, maybe he shouldn't be working there OR maybe train him properly. Then when we went to pay I made a remark on how high tax was in Philly, I remarked tax isn't that high where I live in CA, He went off on a rant about how it's higher in CA and how he used to live there and I said not where I live, he started to argue with me trying to prove me wrong and I said listen I'm not going to argue with you. He finally quieted down, then literally followed us out the door still arguing about the tax. This is the same guy who as soon as we walked in doesn't welcome us or says hello but says we are closing in a half hour, basically rushing us. Horrible customer service. Even the girl I asked for assistance didn't seem like she wanted to be there and the second I told her old dude asked me to ask her for help she legit rolled her eyes. Firstly, when I made the appointment for my four month pup I was given a 30 some dollar quote. His grooming,as it turned out, consisted of trim around his eyes and butt, and supposed nail trim. bath and blow dry. No haircut, as I wanted. Cost was 57$ of wasted money. Second time the charm? I attempting to have another living creature at my place and not kill it within a fortnight. I purchased a Rainbow Shark and a Betta fish both only $3.99 each. A lot of Betta's (fish with the beautiful tail) go for as much as $14.99 so I was very happy to stumble upon such a deal at this Petco. The employee that attempted to retrieve the fish was very patient on catching the Shark that was giving her a hell of a time and all the workers were very nice. I probably will not be back as this store is definitely smaller then other Petco's but thankful that I stopped in. Nice spot, and very friendly staff. However, I have got to say, Petco is not the ideal spot for small pet lovers. Guinea pigs require much larger cages than the ones they sell and recommend to customers, and the same goes for the other reptiles and rodents. The poor creatures are in such tiny cages and put on display as if they are objects. This is just sad and many people are misinformed about what they need to provide for their small pets because of Petco. I did see a few gorgeous piggies there, and they seemed content, it's just that the conditions they are bred and kept in are unethical. And did I mention the incredibly depressing display of beta fish in PLASTIC CONTAINERS?? It's awful. So, so awful. It's hard to believe it's even legal. read more

Another great grooming job at Petco. I've always had good service here. Lucy gets her nails grinded down (since she doesn't like to walk far) and the de-shedding treatment. Who knew a shar pei/pitbull mix could shed so much?? The staff is usually very nice here but yesterday they were awful. My husband came to pick up an order I had placed online for pick up in the store. There was no one at the counter so my husband had to look around the store for someone. When he found an associate, she barked at him "they will be there in a minute". Then the cashier was rude and complaining about how other customers had been rude to him. It was just too much drama for just picking up food. We are going to go elsewhere from now on. read more

My biggest problem with this store is nothing that hasn't been said before about a chain pet store. There is a chinchilla in way too small of a cage and an inappropriate one at that. For months it was alone, obviously depressed being a highly social animal that creates very strong bonds. Then they decide to put a guinea pig in with it. This is the most insane thing I have seen yet! Mixing species is always a huge no! They are extremely different animals with different needs! They also have nearly all their lizards on sand substrate, another huge no! This was a half decent store until they decided to do this bizarre bullshit! *edit* bumped up a star because the chin situation was somewhat resolved. I've also seen the reptiles switched from sand to carpet though the cages are still overcrowded. I have also seen a better selection of small animal foods and cages. Petco is an okay spot when you're in a bind, because they stay open later and do have quite the selection of pet supplies, but it is all slightly overpriced. Obviously I have more preferred spots for most of my dog's needs, but there is one feature at Petco that I do very much like; rawhide bar. Basically, you show up after hours in your best leathers, and, as long as you have a cowboy hat on and the cover charge in hand, you get to do whatever you'd like inside. I kid, I kid. More accurately, it resembles a penny candy section, but with rawhide treats for your pup instead of chewy kiddie speed. For $2.50 a 1/4 lb. you get (among other things) "sushi" rawhide, crunchy candy shaped rawhide, and my dog's new favorites, baseball and football shaped rawhide treats with actual rawhide laces. Did I mention there's rawhide? They also give you a free milkbone if you bring your mutt, but who doesn't these days. read more

I was new to the area and took my dog here for a nail trim. I have a pug and she's finicky when it comes to nail clipping. I told the groomer that from the start and he brushed it off. Additionally, some grooming places know pugs and their breathing issues (all grooming places SHOULD) and so they wrap the leash around her body vs her neck for safety reasons. NOT petco. My dog nearly hung herself from the table trying to escape and the young man who cut her nails could've have cared less. I didn't even allow him to finish because he seemed so out of control of the situation and I was terrified. To boot, the nails he did manage to cut were horribly jagged. Surprisingly this PetCo looks like it takes pretty good care of it's fish. It definitely takes better care of it's fish than the other pet store nearby. I bought 1 mystery snail, 2 dwarf gouramis, and 8 platys. All of the fish and the snail survived except for 1 platy which I think died because it was being bullied by the other platys. The snail was very healthy upon buying and the dwarf gourami where very healthy looking as well. The platys had ich but that was easily taken care of with some ich treatment. I returned 2 fish that I bought at a different time before the 11 creatures above, because they would've gotten too big and too aggressive later down the line. The return went smoothly and they easily replaced the fish and refunded me. The only things I don't like about this place is that they mix all different kinds of fish together in one bag without acclimating them instead of using the water from their respective tanks. This means the fish have little space, it promotes aggression, and promotes stress as the fish are put into shock by being thrown into water with different parameters without being acclimated first. The selection of fish is a bit small. read more

I wish I had read the awful grooming reviews before bringing my dogs here. We normally do PetSmart but decided to switch it up - If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I dropped my 2 dogs off at 1:30PM on a Friday & received a call at 4PM saying they accidentally cut 1 dog's eye & were taking her to the vet. A manager called to try & explain this, but was so nervous/possibly inexperienced that it took 7 mins to get to the point of the call. An hour later, the vet calls saying there's a cut on my dog's eye AND leg & to meet the Petco employee back at the store. 5:30PM, I walk in & dog #1 is not yet back from the vet, dog #2 is pulled out of a crate for me & only half groomed. They quickly "finish" her, my hurt dog finally comes back & I'm more than ready to leave, as are my dogs. I only had to pay for 1 of the 2 & had a 25% off coupon for first-timers, to which the manager said "this is only for new customers" .. Right, not only am I that, but I'll also never be back & you just sliced & diced my dog. Her reply: "haha oh yeah, you are a first timer, I was actually the 1 that put you in the system". I get home & realize they only trimmed 3 of 4 paws on dog #2 - One whole leg was left undone. Poor dog #1 shook & trembled all night from her long, ridiculous day. I fixed the undone work myself & after complaining via FB, got a call from another manager & am awaiting a full refund. The second manager made sure to tell me that trips to the vet cost them over $100 .. Tell your employees that, not me, so they work harder to not weedwack pets on their table. She also dismissed the second fresh cut on my dog's leg, saying she must've scratched it before coming in. She "took ownership" of the un-groomed leg saying the tech admittedly was only focused on her face & forgot to check out the feet. Whatever that may mean. Never, ever again. I'll be using the $45 refund to buy treats for my dogs to make up for the worst day of their lives thus far. read more

I called to inquire about having my dog, Duke's nails cut. Here is what happened: 1. First, the employee told me that I didn't need an appointment and it is a walk-in service...GREAT! 2. Next, since it was my first time getting this done with them, they needed to make sure that Duke has had his Rabies vaccination, but having the "tag" issued by the state isn't enough proof...hmmmm? OK, not really a big deal for me, I've learned that I need to have the paperwork to prove that Duke is up to date with ALL his vaccinations readily accessible. 3. Next, I said that I have a PDF on my phone with all of Duke's current paperwork. The employee said that would be just fine...GREAT! 4. I informed her that Duke tends to bite when getting his nails cut. So, I recommended that he is muzzled. The employee informed me that they do not supply muzzles...hmmmmm? Not ANOTHER big deal, I have my own. 5. Then, I told the employee that I can walk-in with one on Duke ahead of time. The employee informed me that that doesn't work either. According to the employee, it is Petco's policy to NOT service any animals that wear/require muzzles...WTF! 6. Then, the employee tried to tell me that maybe PetSmart may allow muzzled pets to be serviced...REALLY?!?!?! Now, I understand Petco's policy to protect their employees from harm. But, what gets my goat is the fact that if I were to provide a safe option to protect their employees from harm, so that my pet can get serviced, they STILL won't allow it???!!!??? Sounds fishy, pun intended. In that case, it is now MY policy to not purchase any items from Petco AND to ensure that everyone is informed of their "enhanced" muzzle policy. :P read more

I just wanted to write an update on Petco's customer service. Their is an associate who I usually see working at the registers at night. Bigger guy, don't know his name. I wanted to give him props, because every time I go in to this store, he is right their asking if I need help, answering questions I have, finding stuff. I had asked why my short-haired dog has been shedding so much, gave me the same advice as a similarly good associate in the Willow Grove store. Cheaper dog food is like junk food. Always such great service from every one of the employees and the manager. They really do go above and beyond whether it's helping u to identify the mystery of your shelter dog's breed as you're shopping the numerous aisles or open a paws account to help u save some money. This place is so much bigger than it seems! Fair variety of pet goods especially when you don't have time/patience to wait for that specialty item or snack to ship in from Amazon. They gave us a few free things for our brand new puppy which was super sweet and also offer dog training which we have yet to check out. I am sad that we no longer live by this location and much prefer it over a few other Petco's. read more

This review is for the groomers. This place has changed staff three times. We liked it there until this most recent event. Our pup was the last groom of the night. Three hours after dropping off him off we never got a phone call to come pick him up. We figured we'd go now cause we had to pick a few things up. When we got there we were in the little waiting room. Guess the groomer didn't see us cause all we heard was her yelling and cursing "Stop! You're so "f****** annoying" and "You're so f****** stupid" while cutting the hairs around his face with scissors, not clippers. My boyfriend had gone to the front and asked for the manager. Apparently the person as the register was the manager and was told what had happened. She said she would have a word with the groomer. He had asked that she speak to her employee after she was done with our dog because he didn't want her to do anything bad to him. He came back into the waiting room and by that time our pup was done. The groomer comes out, sees us, and goes "Oh!" My boyfriend asked "How was our dog?" And she said "Oh, he was fine." Really... No wonder our pup absolutely hates coming here! We understand that he was the last dog of the night and she would rather be on her way home. But that is no excuse for her to act like she did and then tell us he was fine... My dog doesn't like to be bathed, let alone have scissors in his face but what dog does? He wasn't even that bad. If this groomer is like this with our dog, I can only imagine what she's like with dogs that are worse. I'm not sure if management ever spoke to this lady but I am never going there for their grooming services ever again. read more

The grooming salon here is horrible! On more than one occasion I've called to have my dogs nails clipped and was told "yes, just come on over!" Only to get there "right away and be told "my book is full", " we are short staff", "I have a aggressive dog". Having a full book, being under staffed or the aggressive dog issues aren't what earned this place a one star. It's the poor communication between the grooming salon, the store and the consumer! Dan the manager seemed overwhelmed with running the store. Sad this location is 5 minuets from my house and I can't/ won't use it. I bought two jackets for my dog. The list price was $39.99. They marked $10 off on the price tag, so I thought it was $29.99. But it did not show up on my receipt. I went back and asked about the $10 discount. The cashier was not patience. He told me I have to be Petco member in order to receive $10 off. I told him I want to be the member to get the discount. I went a couple hours after adopting an overwhelmed 60 lb. dog, and I needed quite a bit more supplies and some suggestions. I was just as overwhelmed as the dog was. Jasmine was absolutely amazing in helping us find the right items, informing us about dog training (which is so necessary), and helping set up a grooming which was also desperately needed. AJ took my new pup and worked his magic as the groomer all while being super friendly. Great staff and help. We appreciate it and will be back soon! read more

If I could give no stars I would. We typically go to the Petco in KOP because of the great customer service and attention to detail. This time we had to go to Andorra for convenience. Never again. I have an elderly dog, she cannot get on the tables. I explained that all grooming and nails are done on the floor because of her hips. When I went to pick her up the groomers made it a point to explain that they had a hard time doing her nails on the table and had to brig another groomer in. I asked why they put her on the table when I specifically said not to and they said "well that's typically how it is done." Then they suggested I get my dog's nails done at the vet instead. Thanks for the advice? She said she was going to put a BIG NOTE in my dog's file for next time. Told her there would be no need since we usually go to KOP and we will go back there from now on. To which she asked "why did you come here today instead of KOP?" I informed her because this was closer to my house, but I'd rather make the drive next time. Obviously my explanation of an atypical situation didn't mean anything. No attention to detail, no apology for not listening to directions, nothing. From now on I will make the 25 minute drive to KOP just to make sure my dog's needs are attended to and the groomers value what an owner says to them. read more

I was there with my Grandson. He was behind me eating a bag of chips. The woman there puts her hands over the cage and said he can't put his fingers in the cage. I asked her what made her think that he would? He wasn't even near the cage! Needless to say, she completely turned me off and I had to walk out!!!! Pretty terrible experience with my local Petco (Andorra shopping center). I called for a grooming appointment and was given a 9:00AM slot. Sounds great. We shovel the snow, get the dog in the car, head over to the store...and it's closed. I called and the person who answered said that they screwed up and should not have given that appointment time since it's impossible, as their groomer doesn't even get in until 10. Of course a 5 second phone call could have saved us this inconvenience, they only had a whole week to pick up the phone and let us know. Instead we get the 10am slot, come back, and the groomer seemed to think it was more important to stay on the phone than hand my dog back over who was loudly barking and crying in the background. She eventually hands me a receipt and tells me to pay first at the front, then come back to the grooming area, at which point she jumped back on the phone. Can I please just have my dog back already?!?! At checkout the cashier made me stand there and wait because he said a manager was needed to verify the whopping 4 dollar coupon I was given to make up for the time screw up. Mistakes are understandable, but these people just genuinely don't give a crap. I highly recommend taking your pet elsewhere. read more
