We scheduled a 10 am appointment and when we dropped off our 30 pound mini golden doodle we were told they weren't busy so it might not take that long. We went back at 1 pm and were told she ' isn't done'. She was in a crate not even being worked on. We went back at 2 pm and she still wasn't done. She had been shampooed and only one side of her body had been cut. My husband expressed his dissatisfaction and asked to speak to the manager. The manager then told him that they would not finish grooming her due to his " altercation"  What altercation ??? She had not been touched in 4 hours except for a bath and a 1/4 shave on one side. We were not asked to pay. We will never go to Petco in Kona Hawaii again. read more

​I am beyond disappointed with the service at the Kona Petco. On 2/8/26, I arrived at 5:00 PM to pick up a dog food order, only to find the team locking the store early. When I questioned the 7:00 PM closing time listed online, the manager/supervisor was confrontational and rude, justifying the early closure by saying the staff had worked "over 10 hours." ​It is completely unacceptable for a corporate franchise, such as Petco, to close its doors during business hours just because the staff is tired--especially when customers have already paid for items and rely on these services. If this was a small, family-owned business, I would completely understand. Not Petco. The disrespect we received from the woman who I assume was the supervisor was unacceptable and unprofessional. Horrible customer service! Went in to purchase 2 fish. Asked the person at the fish section if we could get 2 fish he stated he's too busy unbagging fish. Asked someone who came out from the office if I could get help getting 2 fish she stated that someone is there and he can help. I stated that he said he's too busy to help me he's unbagging fish. She stated he should still be able to help me. As she walked over to ask him she turned around and said yes he's busy he stated can you come back in 20min I stated no I can't I just wanted 2 fish. As she walked away not even her would help me I asked is no one trained to catch fish but 1 person. She stated no we all can but we're too busy now mind you there was only one customer at a register... HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Over the last few years, I've pushed aside that the manager was rude and dismissive when I had a complaint about scheduling in the grooming department he actually told me that I could not choose who groomed my dog and that I get who I get. I called PetCo home office to complain and nothing ever happened it fell on deaf ears. The store always looks unkept, freight is always in aisles on pallets. But I pushed it aside because the groomer was amazing. That all changed when I came in to make a grooming appointment and waited and waited for someone to come out to help me, while waiting I looked through the glass to the groom area and have NEVER seen it so filthy, then I heard yelling, someone was yelling at a dog in the back " get your ( bad words) in there" this person was non stop yelling she sound so mean and aggressive . A very large woman came out and I explained I needed to make an appointment with a specific groomer. I was told "well that won't happen she doesn't work here anymore" in the rudest most insensitive manner She said " I can do and I'm no (insert bad word)" I was speechless, and after what I witnessed with her yelling at a dog, as well as previous encounters with your inept manager I am done!!! I will never ever step foot in that store, I will never ever give Petco another dime. I went to the website, no place to express my concern. So here I am letting the public know that this company is going down hill and they don't care. In this day and age I have options so I will never have to waste my time or money on a company that doesn't care about their customers. I am shocked that corporate doesn't walk the store quarterly and clean that place up, and allows staff to yell at dogs . I feel like I just set myself free from a toxic relationship. Over 15 years as a loyal customer. The service the other day was so poor that I have cancelled all my repeat deliveries and account. It was a saleswoman and female manager. Their rudeness and lack of intelligence is a diservice to our community. Too bad PetCo - I used to think you were fun to go to - now I'm not into the attitudes and lack of front end service. Horrible experience in the grooming department is an understatement. Shay was rude to me from the second I arrived with my 2 dogs for their grooming appointment. She argued with me about how I wanted the dogs groomed and gaslit me thats not how they do things (although I've been there many times). She suddenly said "you're declined" and asked me to leave. I drove 2 hours each way for this appointment. The manager standing right there said nothing, then hid in her office when I asked for a conversation about this incident. Shay had such a surly attitude and "bad vibes" that I actually felt we had dodged a bullet. I will never take my fur babies there again. They deserve better than this abusive atmosphere. read more

On Saturday may 4th, I took my dog Lucca to have his nails trimmed and his ears cleaned. When I left petco he had a starchy film on his coat. I washed him with shampoo but the starch wouldn't budge so I ordered conditioner online. 4 days later on May 8th, I received it and gave him a bath. Upon investigating my dog, I have found that his inside right ear is completely red and raw and hard to the touch. A perfect circle of swell that appears to be crusted now, is present in his ear. It looks like something was shoved in his ear, scrubbed excessively and left with noticeable white clumps trauma. Trauma, that Justice the "groomer" has caused him by mishandling a 10 pound dog. I have pictures of his ear that I would LOVE to provide to show what a nightmare of a person this "groomer" is. If you can't properly groom a dog, why is this your occupation???? I've been gaslit by the incompetent staff. "Ringworm." "Allergic reaction." "All she did was pluck the hair." And those excuses were BEFORE they hung up on me multiple times and screened my call. Then I speak to this "manager" named lea. And after I vented in excruciating detail demanding to know what justice did to my dog so that I can take him to the vet who can I do this trauma, she tells me she'll extend my concerns to the "manager" What?!? I thought I was talking to the manager!! You claimed to be one, and now you're pushing my concerns elsewhere??? What kind of circus operation is this! read more

Took our Pomeranian for grooming service on 10-24-24. We provided a photo example of how we would like our dog groomed. We also looked at the clipping chart at the desk. And was told a standard Pomeranian cut was between 4 & 5. When we picked her up, she was completely shaved. A dog groomer with any knowledge of Pomeranians knows they should never be shaved unless it's for a medical reason. When we picked her up, the groomer said the clippers would not go through her fur. When we talked to the groomer over the phone, at first she stated that was the picture we provided. Then changed her statement saying our dog's fur was heavily matted. She changed her story again that with her experience she can tell our dog has been shaved multiple times and that we wanted her shaved. Both extremely untrue. We went to the store and spoke with two managers. One was very helpful, the other's sarcastic response was she's been grooming dogs for over 30 years. Implying that it was totally fine that this was done to our dog without our permission. Even a simple call to us and this would not have occurred. Because of the shaving our dog is now at risk of her fur not growing back correctly and possible exposure to skin cancer. DO NOT HAVE YOUR DOG GROOMED BY SHERLANE. Not all Petcos are the same as this location is definitely great. The staff and even the patrons are all friendly, approachable animal lovers. The trainers are well engaged and focused on you and your experience. I was having such a great time my dog and I even made a second pass through the store. The interior had a nice circular flow instead of the square traditional retail layout which allows for quicker scan of the product selections. Pricing at Petco is definitely a bit higher on almost all items so do be cautious though sales are abound. read more

Oops put other dog ahead of "bella" we want to Pick her up 31/2 hours later and we're told she was not ready . We come from Waikoloa So this was a big deal. We needed to get home . We asked for her and wanted to leave . They attempted to charge us for a bath !!! We told then we can do that we needed her groomed ! They do not charge us for bath , instead the 86ed "bella" from pet co !!!! After 10 years of grooming . Maybe schedule needs overhaul ????? read more

Regularly bringing our puppies for grooming at Petco, I was urged to sign up for a Petco Account at the checkout, so I could get the 8th grooming free. I did so several months ago and decided to see if I had earned a free grooming. Unknown to me, and not disclosed when I signed up, I needed to download the Petco App and "Unlock" the grooming offer, before any of the appointments counted. So after several appointments, only 1 counted. I don't know if it was a case of negligence on the part of the checkout person, or a case of intention to deceive on the part of Petco, but in any case my attempt to rectify the situation feel on deaf ears when i "chatted" with a Petco Rep. It looks like Petco would rather lose a loyal customer, than give up their part of $100 for a grooming. Of course now they have lost both. read more

I had 2 really lousy shopping experiences in the last 2 weeks at Kailua Kona Petco. I spent over $200 on trip number 1 and got rudely treated by associate Jamie and I mean rudely. Second trip she was also disrespectful and rude. She did not want to help and had such a bad attitude when she helped me locate something small. I have lived here 50 years and have only had this treatment from a business a couple times. I am pretty sure I will be returning the items I bought in the next couple days and I will try to find what I need elsewhere. There are other places to shop that I will be respected. I am a happy go lucky person and I treat people with respect. Her bad attitude really put me in a funky depression as it really seemed her bad attitude had racial undertones. I'm not dummy and I know racism when I see it. She's a bad representation for your business. I had the decency not to let her have it right there. read more

We use to enjoy taking our dog Mochi to see Dawn. She is great. However, after leaving our name and return info at the store we never received a call back to book appt. Love Dawn but want someone to answer phones! We have used online booking but having a problem with access. For these reasons we are leaving this review and will take our business elsewhere. I made a appointment on line to have my dog groomed.. arrived at appointment on time and after speaking with the groomer told her it's my dogs first time and that my vet prescribed a mild sedative so she would be ok.. Groomer told me she could not take her as it was against Pet Co policy, I asked where online OR in the store was this policy posted. She said it's not posted ANYWHERE!!! I asked her to get the manager, and some kid who looked extremely bored came out and said they could not take my dog. I took the day off from work and drove from Hawi , 1.5 hr one way for this appointment!!! They could not care less! It's a SECRET POLICY!!!! Any buisness with this kind of a policy should post it, both online and at the check-in desk!! NO EXCUSES! They notified me 5 times in as many days to bring her immunization documents!!!! 5 TIMES IN 5DAYS!!!! I have a zoo in my house. No really, I do! I'm talking birds, fishes, cats, cats that resemble pot belly pigs, dogs, dogs that resemble little gremlins, a chinchilla, and frogs. Over here on the windward side of the Big Island, we don't have such fancy stores. Need dog food? Go to Target. Got a fat, dumb cat that breaks out of his own collar (repeatedly...)? Go to Target. So whenever we stumble across the saddle and end up in Kailua-Kona, I like to pop into Petco. It's a great clean store with lots of great items for pets of all species. We got cat items, dog stuff, fish goods, bird materials, things for reptiles and rabbits, and other animal supplies. They have food, cages, beds, oxygen pumps, and the squeakiest of squeaky toys for your rowdy chocolate retriever pup. We even got my brother a chinchilla here (R.I.P. Addie). So yes, while it may be a Petco, I'm a fan. I like looking at their holiday costumes and toys this time of year. #noshame read more

I always take my dog Tinkerbell to Petco for grooming. They do a great job and she is never nervous to go with the groomers which to me means that she is having a pleasant experience while she's there. She can be kind of nervous at times and so when she's relaxed just entering the place I know that everything is good. She always looks grade turn nails are always cut very nicely and hers grow very fast they always remind me that I can bring her in in between visits just for a nail clip for nothing so I do take advantage of that period I would recommend Petco in Kona to anyone with dogs I don't have any experience with cats there I'm not even sure if they take them but they very well may. read more

I've been getting cat and dog food here since they opened. Huge selection of organics, and both my cat and dog are picky. I'm also convinced that careful attention to diet and in particular choosing organic has contributed to having a 22 year old cat and a 15 y/o golden retriever, both gone now, but not forgotten. I take my golden doodle there now when I shop and she has a blast! I must also mention that their employees understand the concept of service and how important it is. As an example, tonight by no fault of my own I arrived on a Sunday at 7 pm just at closing, and they let me run in and buy what I needed while waiting to lock up and go home. I had never encountered any customer who screamed and harassed my dog and I while I was trying to get my shopping done. This woman was standing in the parking lot area, screaming and harassing my dog and I, while I stood outside the storefront area. When she couldn't get her way during a fight she chose to start with me, she got in her car and continued screaming and harassing me while driving by the storefront area. I was a visitor and I needed to take my dog out with me because I needed to do some shopping. My dog gets easily stressed around crowds. He is calmer in the car because he feels safer. I was taking care of him because I kept him in a shady area, the windows were down, and he had water to drink. He ended up shaken with more anxiety because of this women's unnecessary behavior. I went into Petco and spoke to someone in the store. They made me aware how normal it has become for customers to have arguments outside in the parking lot area. It has been an ongoing problem that has not been taken care of. Now, I understand the parking lot is the landlord's responsibility. But, as a community, it is our responsibility to take care of the problems that we know is happening outside of the stores. Part of taking care of your customers, is talking with the landlord and setting up some kind of security in the parking lot area, to ensure your customer's safety while they are going into and coming out from stores around that area. I really hope this can get taken care of or these problems may end up escalating into a really big problem for all the storeowners. One small act can make a big difference for everyone. read more

This place is a joke. The employees that were really helpful are long gone. Now we're left with employees that won't even say Hi, block isles and only talk to each other. My wife and I brought our Chiweenie , Coco in for a nail clipping, Teeth, Ear cleaning, Bath and combing last Tuesday . I had talked to Diana L a few days earlier and felt very comfortable with her. Being an owner of several pets, finding stores that have all of the items that I need for mine at one location are a definate blessing. This Petco located in Kailua-Kona has all of the pet supplies that I need for my extended pet family and then some. The store has a wide variety of food and products for dogs and cats which for most people is hard to find such a wide selection on the Big Island. There are lots of food brands and food types that you are guaranteed to find the right one for your dog or cat there. I was quite suprised the first time that I went into the store to find so many different brands of dog food, supplements and care products for dogs and cats. The prices may not be as cheap as some other stores, but they do have a lot more selection to choose from. They also keep a good stock of freshwater fish and a few saltwater fish to. There are several size tanks, stands, light hoods, and food all in stock for your fish. The store also carries guinea pigs, rabbits and lizards along with the cages and products needed to care for them. Petco in Kailua-Kona is a great store to get all of your pet supplies on the Big Island. Now they just need to open one up in Hilo, so we don't need to drive across the island. read more

I love Petco! :) They have such cuteeeee stuff. I just bought my husky a life vest from there - it was a little pricey, but worth the money I think. Actually, I think for the most part - everything at Petco is really expensive. Unless it's the stuff that's 2 for $5. Hahahaha. When it comes to service, for the most part I've received good service here. But there have been other times that I've had rude cashiers etc. It's annoying when people tell me how to handle my dog - and while I know that they're probably right & these people are professionals, it still bugs me. :) However, When I first brought my dog into Petco, I received GREAT service from them! I think almost all the staff paid attention and gave me great advice. (My dog came from an abused home and was skinny and unhealthy.) Anyway, my last experience at Petco was a good one. :) The only service we got was from the cashier because we didn't need help with finding anything. But the cashier was really nice & friendly. For the times you don't feel like ordering from Amazon to save a few bucks, it's nice to know Petco is there. We have a small breed dog and Petco has a free small breed puppy playtime twice a week (Tue and Thu 5:30-6:30pm). It is great for dogs to socialize, and you can't beat the price.
