We've been taking our dog to Paws for two years, and generally we liked the service. However, their policies have become ridiculous - they require you to pay for an expensive bath if your dog boards for more than three days, and we have almost always had to bathe our dog again once she got home because she still stank. They have also recently implemented a 48-hour cancellation fee of $50, which they refused to waive for a first-time offense (I called a day ahead of time). My reservation was for the Thanksgiving holidays - a time when there is likely a long wait list - so I know for sure I am not "costing" them a spot. We will not be taking our dog back to Paws and will be using Lucky D kennels instead, which are cheaper, don't require you to pay for a bath, and reasonably allow for cancellations. Edit: the only reason management should have been surprised at this review would be because my concerns, which I clearly voiced several times to the receptionist and over the phone, were either not passed along or management did not care. Given the unprofessional response of the management staff (calling clients - even former clients - petty for voicing their displeasure? wow), potential clients should think about whether this is the best place to take their beloved pets. read more

You'll have to experience it yourself but the staff is the epitome of professional and the aloha spirit. -good practices such as positive reinforcement and making everything a positive experience -excellent communication (I'm such a dog parent worrier and whenever I call to check on my pup they always are happy to tell me how she is doing) -screens all dogs (kind of like an interview for college/job etc) so no aggressive or porter tally aggressive dogs are allowed. -separate pens for small/medium/large dogs. Puppies eve get their own little pen in the smalls yard to adapt to other dogs! -great for socialization -training classes are affordable and great! I'm excited to work with the trainer Alan, who has decades of experience! -takes pictures of your pup at daycare! think of it like dropping your kid off at school! I get a little emotional dropping off my pup and they let me stay to watch her for a bit, which I'm very thankful for. This review is for GROOMING, only. We took our 5lb toy poodle here at the recommendation of our neighbor who also has a poodle, and because I couldn't get him in for a few weeks with his normal groomer. Their poodle always looks good, so maybe this was a fluke... but it was a REALLY bad one. It had been 7 weeks since he was last groomed, so he was due for a groom but not super overgrown. My partner dropped him off and asked for a "puppy cut" trim with clean (shaved) feet and face. When he picked him up, he was completely shaved nearly down to the skin. She said he had tons of mats (which he definitely didn't) and fleas (exactly two fleas were found apparently, which he probably picked up there, he's not had them before). I was charged for a haircut ($80) flea bath ($30) clean feet ($10) and they gave him flea medication which I didn't approve. It cost $135 total without a tip. He was throwing up and shaking the rest of the day, and he looks like a naked cat. They even shaved his tail off!! This is by far the worst and most expensive grooming of his life. Do NOT recommend. We'll be going back to Diana at Petco from now on. read more

We just took our Snow for her "interview" at PAWS, guess I was worried for nothing because it appears she's gonna be fine there. Whew! Had a chance to mini-view the grounds and we are ecstatic that Snow will have access to a fun park and a great staff who love their work! We are gonna do a test drive by introducing Snow a day care and work in overnights. If you have a fur baby wouldn't hurt taking a look at Paws University! Do not take your small dog here! Appointment was over three hours late,lots of confusion. The waiting area was so full in a small one dog grooming room the barking was so loud the groomer needed noise canceling headphones. I asked to keep my dog and wait the three hours, the groomer was not happy about it. I left a message saying I drove home to wait and that it would helpful for a call if they are running late, they called back and said she couldn't come a unscheduled dog had shown up. Hang up. Worst experience since moving here. This message is for Grooming only not the day care.I don't know how that goes looks good for big dogs out side. read more

I take my 7 month old puppy Lolo up to Paws University a couple days a week for doggy day care and I love everything about them!! Super friendly staff, clean facility and they're all great with my highly energetic pup. She has A LOT of energy and can be a bit much but they're so patient with her. Taking her just 2 days a week has made a huge difference and she's always exhausted when she gets home. They also provide more service than doggy day care like grooming which is very convenient and it's affordable on a pretty tight budget. 10/10 highly recommend!!! read more

Issue is with their communication regarding grooming. Made boarding and grooming reservations over a month ago and received confirmation the following day. Picked up our dog this morning and was told that she wasn't groomed, I asked why. I was told that they didn't have grooming services some weekends or that there was no availability. I asked which was it, the two clerks were stumped with that question. They then stated that the grooming was in the notes section and that they weren't able to see it until they printed the reservation and that I should call them the next time. I asked where that information was stated on the reservation request form, again they were stumped. At that time, excuses began to pour from their mouths. I was upset about not being notified in advance but didn't want to push a losing situation. IF YOU SCHEDULE BOARDING FOR YOUR PET AND YOU PUT SOMETHING IN THE NOTES SECTION, I RECOMMEND THAT YOU CALL THEM SO THAT IT'S UNDERSTOOD. MY ISSUE WAS GROOMING BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN WORSE IF IT WERE A HEALTH ISSUE. read more

We take our dog JuJu here for day care once a week and board her over night about once a month. She absolutely loves it here, she gets her play time in and the staff is absolutely amazing! The island is very limited on beaches and parks that allow dogs so it's a life saver for her and gives us a chance to go to different beaches our selves! We are truly grateful for Paws!! read more

Take my dog here about once a week for day care, for the last year or so. He is always super excited when I drop him off. Facility is outside, dogs have toys, pools, and are allowed to run in the green grassy field when it is available. Staff is very friendly & they are on it! The people at Paws University are kind, professional, and organized. We board our two large dogs there (a German Shepherd and an Australian Shepherd) every time we go out of town. Our dogs get super excited as we are driving up (a good sign, and a relief because we are crazy dog people and hate to leave our dogs), and always seem happy and worn out from play when we pick them up. We also get them groomed there and their groomer is a real pro. Have never tried any of their training services, but they offer a great variety of those too. read more

It's a family run business and from the initial phone call it's obvious your pet is important to them.There are very few dog friendly beaches or parks in Kona where our furry pals can socialize and play. Paws offers a safe place for dogs to play during the daytime or stay overnight if needed and receive excellent care. I have a small Shih Tzu and he loves his "Paws" days. All i need to say the word "Paws" and Bruno is headed for the car with tail wagging. We have been attending doggy obedience classes and I'm very impressed with Allen's knowledge of what promotes different behaviors and how to correct or encourage these behaviors. There's nothing like having a well behaved dog to keep them safe and be accepted wherever you might take them. I'm certain after completing the classes I will feel confident in many more social outings with Bruno. Paws has this incredible staff that compliment everything Allen and Lana do to make this such an outstanding service. With every staff member you are immediately aware of their care and commitment to keeping your pet safe and happy. I'm amazed at the enthusiasm of every staff member. Crickets.... I looked forward to doing business with Paws University when I returned home to the Islands. I honestly did! The veterinarian and others were excited about them. I called, left a message NO REPLY. I filled out their online application and then called again. NO REPLY. I'm Not harassing or begging them. Over a period of a year, I've left up to five messages. NEVER ONCE A REPLY! One starts to question how interested they are in your business and by extension your dog. If there is an medical emergency with your dog will you be called? If they do call, and you try to return their call, will they call you back? Ever? I don't know. Because they sure as heck aren't answering their phone. Not saying don't go there just be prepared to feel unimportant as a new customer if you're the type that doesn't live on a computer or has a disability that deters you from computer use. I'm going elsewhere where they answer the phone in a friendly manner, happy for my business like most every other boarding kennel on the planet has for the last hundred years. GOOD LUCK! read more
