Honestly. Just disappointed by their inability to admit they didn't want to service our dog. Our dog was taken in for grooming, it's his first ever grooming appointment. Kind of a big deal for all of us. Roughly 5 minutes after he is dropped off we're called and told he is too difficult and needs to be drugged for future services. Any time he has been to the vet, he is compliant. A little nervous but easy to work with. He wasn't given a chance. Lack of customer service or care. If you simply cannot handle servicing a dog, state that. I'm ashamed. I've never had such a terrible experience for grooming with petco before. I've had difficult anxious dogs in the past who were taken care of extremely well by petco groomers who handled their anxiety and were able to create a safe and comfortable environment. read more

If I could rate 0 I would. Went in to grab a few more goldfish for my aquarium. Their aquariums were disgusting & as I am looking at how abandoned these fish are, a HUGE cockroach comes out from underneath. As I look down, there's ANOTHER DEAD ONE IN PLAIN SIGHT. this place is dirty and they do not take care of the animals. I recommend driving the extra bit and going to the petsmart. Here today just picking up an online order and getting some stuff for my pups , I'm an overall really sweet person and I did NOT appreciate the manager having a full blown attitude when she was just asked for some help. I mean literally storming up front because you had to help find our order and didn't want too? I normally really enjoy this store , so maybe she had a bad day , we all have bad days but I'm in customer service as well and I never speak to my people rudely, bad day or not. I'm sorry that people were having a bad day today , this is one of my primary stores that I shop at so I hope that it may have just been a busy long morning and I hope that this can be understood from a customers pov, like I said before , I'm a sweet person , I'm patient , so it irks me when people are rude for no apparent reason , especially when it's their job to help. read more

On Nov 26 I took our dog to the Independence store to be groomed. They gave a terrible cut and not what we asked for, but hair will grow out. Still I thought they should know how bad it looked. They said it was because the dog was matted, a boldface lie. I have dated pictures, and hands on proof from his vet, dog trainer and others if they they want stick with this story. Like I said his hair grow but the lie and excuses are hard to take. I had the 9 am appointment so the manager can respond if they need more detail. Called the store but unable to talk to management. I kind of freaked out the manager when I took the picture. He came outside and wanted to know why I was taking a picture. I told him it was for Yelp, cause the other day, the store had gone above and beyond their call of duty. Susan N.'s review of Petco, reminded me, that I absolutely had to get dog food, TODAY. So, I chose my lunch hour to go and do that. Last month, I was in this store, and I asked the manager about a leash for one of my dogs, like his groomer uses. Though I use a different groomer, I didn't let him know that. He searched the entire leash section, and finally asked the groomer which leash she uses. It was clear the store didn't have the leash. (I had a cart of dog food, cause it is cheaper there than at the vet.). I was pleased with his effort to even go that far, and all of a sudden, he went into the grooming station. He came out with the rope leash, and gave it to me. At no charge whatsoever. The leash, by the way works great for the dog. He also gave me a few coupons and the schedule for their dog training courses they give. There's some free classes coming up that he suggested I attend. I use this store for dog food every month. I've come to rely on it. I have the Petco card, and have never had a problem. One thing they could improve on, is the fact that when you go to the cashier's you never know which cashier is open, cause they are not at their station. But, I can bet they aren't goofing around, they are working. To rely on a store so much kind of scares me, cause every time I start talking like that, they move, or close. I use them for dog food, frog food, dog supplies and shampoo, frog supplies, aquarium rocks, and I'd be lost without them. read more

I have been going to Petco grooming for years and last time I took my dog somewhere else cause I couldn't get an appt and the other place did a great job. I tried to make a appt ths time and a lady name Kathy called me bck and left a message , she referred to my dog as a female when talking about my dog which hasn't been there in a long time and he is a male toy poodle name Shado, she tried to say he was 13 and was matted really bad the last time he was there which is incorrect and she tried to say he had trouble standing which is also incorrect cause I have Never had any complaints Never on my dog and she tried to say in the notes he nipped someone which is also incorrect cuz he has never had any complaints on that when I would go pick him up the always had great thing s to say about my dog, so she wouldn't let me make a appt cuz she was making false accusations on my dog! I don't know whether they put another dogs info under my dogs profile and records or what but ths lady that called me bck was making false accussatuons on my dog that hasn't been there in a long time! Obviously the records she was reading off of are wrong cause my dog is only 10 Not 13 and he is a male not a female and he's never matted cause I take great care of all my animals and he's never nipped no one there and I've Never had No complaints on him ! He's always had a great paper that they give me and he's the groomer that he use to use there has always loved my Shado! So I don't know who ths Kathy lady up there in grooming is but she is turning customers away and lying! Iam so very upset over my conversation with her and the way she talk to me as well. My Sheepadoodle had been in a pond and playing outside at my daughter's house a great deal and had numerous mats in her hair. I had cut many out and brushed and detangled as much as I could. I acknowledged that she would need a short cut and I was fine with her body being short but wanted as much of her snout, head, ears, and tail left as long as possible--not shaved. The person checking my dog in confirmed most of the tangles were not in those spots and assured me they would not be shaved. When I returned to pick her up I nearly fell over when I saw my dog. In fact, as I was waiting for them to retrieve my Sheepadoodle, I was thinking how cute the Whippet or Greyhound was that was sitting in another room. Much to my dismay, that was my dog! If there was a hair, the groomer had shaved it. So much that her poor toes were down to the skin as was her tail area. She even cut her long eyelashes off :( Seriously?? Were there mats in her eyelashes? My poor pup is miserable because her skin is so raw from the close shave. Not only was it completely against what I asked for and was told would be done, but it was also very cruel to my dog. See pictures! I will never set foot in Petco again. read more

This store was so filthy it smelled the moment I walked in. The fish tanks were infested with invasive snails, obviously hadn't been cleaned in weeks with slimy algae covering the glass. It's disgusting and I did not see any salesperson. Chaulk was written on the sidewalk for customers to read, warning of social distances, not very seriously. I won't be back. read more

I'm fairly new to fish keeping, I went to the Petco in Lee's Summit by my house, bought a new tank and the staff there said to let it cycle for 2 days. However, after a couple days they were out of the kind of fish I wanted, so I decided to call the one in Raytown to see if they were selling the particular fish. After inquiring about fish, Kellie inquired about my new fish tank, and revealed to me that my tank needed to cycle for much longer and needed to grow bacteria. I was a bit taken aback by all the advice she gave me (advice that I had never heard from another pet store) and I am very grateful that an employee was so concerned and willing to educate me. The worst service for grooming ever. I came to get my Yorkie a cut and forgot the vaccinations, told the lady I'll be back and she canceled my appointment. Made another appointment and she declined my rabies certificate because it's not printed. When that's how my vet gave it to me. On top of that she said she had emailed us saying that. I'm currently checking my email and no where did she specify that it needed to be printed. Never coming here again. read more

What an ugly place. What happened to Noland Rd? Remember when this was the place to be for shopping? This is a dumpy looking strip mall with a dumpy Petco. Inside is the same as any other Petco, however. It has the goods for your pets. Not as large as the one at Chipman road, but it has everything I need and the staff was very helpful. read more

This is the worst store. Everyone that works there is lazy. I had a store manger from Lee summit call there to find what I was looking for and they said they had it and ask her how to spell my name and they will put it in the back four me. When I got there they said they didn't have it and had not had it for over two weeks. And all the manager said is I could give you 20 percent off coupon.. From the outside, the store definitely looks like it could use some work. That being said, that it the responsibility of the corporate office, not the employees that work there. I had a wonderful experience purchasing fish from this location. I was looking at the tanks for literally less than 3 minutes before an employee asked if I was finding everything okay. I told them that I would be buying some fish once I had picked the ones I wanted out - instead of hovering around me to make a sale, they gave me some space and let me take my time. About 5 minutes later they came to check on me and I was able to get the fish I wanted. I appreciated not being rushed. The staff was also very knowledgeable in regards to what cleaning products and food I should get, going above and beyond by letting me know which products they themselves used in their tank at home. It definitely made the experience feel more personal. Lastly, the two ladies at check out were both very friendly and talkative. I don't there is anything more awkward than standing in a check out line in complete silence, so I really appreciated the conversation. Overall, I think that staff was well selected and adds to a good customer experience. I will be returning to this location in the future. read more

I hate poor customer service and I hate feeling unwelcome in any store. Normally I shop at Petsmart, but I stopped here since I was in the area. I found what I wanted and since there was no line, I walked straight to the counter to be checked out. The cashier was talking to another employee, and apparently something exciting or scandalous had just happened, because our cashier was so engrossed in this conversation that he didn't look at us for a minute or so. My mom was with me and she was already moving toward the door to leave by the time he turned to me to ring me up. Even then he didn't speak to me. I felt uncomfortable, and it seemed that he would rather be anywhere else gossipping than ringing up a single item for me. Perhaps this is more a reflection of their Thursday night closing staff than it is of this store in general, but even still I will be going back to Petsmart in the future. Not only it it closer, the prices are better there and I have never been ignored there like I was at Petco last night. read more
