Ever since I've been going here, about 2 years now, to buy my large dog his food, there has always been product in the isles, on the back side of isles, and in the middle of walk-ways in the middle of the store. I can hardly get the small shopping cart thru the store in many areas. They've taken Walmarts idea and made it worse. Skinny isles, and product in the middle of the isles, and throughout the store, so it's not enjoyable to move around. And this is an everyday occurrence. There are pallets of supplies, animal foods, etc, along with carts of products waiting to be shelved in the walk paths.. I don't understand why this store can't use the back of their store for storage? All other stores seem to manage just fine, except this store. Are people just lazy and don't want to put stuff back? It came off the truck, so leave it back there until it's needed, then bring it out... but put it away when you're done stocking the shelves. Two people can't walk past each other in an isle if both have a cart. And in some areas that are normally open spaces, that's all cluttered in too, and impassable. Sometimes trying to maneuver around the product to get down an isles, or out of one, can be a hassle. In addition, it's not a very fire safe store in case of an emergency. All the clutter creates hazards. The manager of this store should be ashamed of themself for keeping such a pigsty!! Just look at the pictures I've posted here. It explains it all. Don't forget, this is an everyday occurrence!! I cant say anything aabout their pet grooming as I do t get my dog groomed here. But, for the most part, the employees are 9 times out of 10 helpful and courteous. Still doesn't excuse the mess of the store. Guess I'll buy online or go to Pet Smart across the street, but im done trying to maneuver a cart full of dog food around clutter. read more

They are always rearranging the store. You can never find what you're looking for. It's not a pleasant store to go into and it's a last ditch effort every time I do have to go there. And it's never been a great experience. The employees are nice. But that's the only plus for the store. The location is Petco on Victory and Hollywood Way in Burbank California. read more

I generally shop at PetCo for their choice of dog food - but I am discouraged from returning. Driving in, an employee came out the side door with a black lab, off leash - who ran I front of my car. It's nice that the front door states "Leashed dogs welcome" - please try to set the example you ask of customers. In April, I had to walk around 4 employees who were standing and sitting in the main aisle chatting, not distancing (during stay-at-home / social distancing), and not moving as my dog (Bernese Mnt. dog) and I tried to walk by with a large bag of dog food. (There were no other customers in the store). Fortunately, I can get dog food elsewhere. I don't recommend this store. read more

I've become very disappointed in Petco. I ordered online and everything was listed as in stock. When I arrived at the store, most of the items were out of stock. I drove 40 miles to the store. When I mentioned this to the clerk she never even responded, yet alone apologize. I had to search through the store to find alternative dog food. There were pallets of dog food, etc. all over the back of the store. Why weren't employees getting these supplies on the shelves? There were several employees standing around chatting. I received a survey from Petco and it asked if I would like the manager to call me. I replied YES. No one called. I will order from Chewy from now on as it's obvious my business is not important to Petco. read more

This place makes me so so sad. I was in there to get a dog groomed. While I was waiting, I was looking at the animals they had there. They had fish dying in the tanks, the small animals had dirty cages and were very over-crowded, and the poor birds were in nearly bare cages with no toys and no interaction with people. The staff wouldn't even help with the conures because they were terrified of them biting, but the birds were terrified of THEM! I waited there for over 8 hours for the dog (a tiny pomeranian) to be groomed. The end result was a mostly wet dog with bald spots shaved in places and horribly perfumed. I would NEVER go back there. read more

Buyer beware: After paying thousands over the last year at this store, one person gives a discount on a few items, just like the management did with me in the past, and in turn, management reprimands the employee and asks me to stop coming to the store as if I had done something wrong. Really? It's no wonder this place has such bad reviews. I am a consumer. I always spend my money where I get a great deal...even if I have to turn to online purchases. FYI...I would pay a little bit more for courteous, professional service. read more

I am appalled at the horrid conditions theses animals are kept in. Especially being a fish lover. Walking in I was immediately greeted by the sight of a beautiful betta laying on its side slowly dieing. Taking a look at the other bettas I found many of them dieing or ridden with disease. I find it disgusting that a company can be okay with animals becoming nothing more than product, buying in bulk and taking loses when one dies. This mentality extended to the rest of their fish department and mammals. Their "nicer" fish were in only slightly better conditions but with corpses floating everywhere. Their mice and hamsters playing in their own feces. Luckily mammals can survive horrible conditions that Petco puts them through, barely... I will never shop here again and support this cruelty. read more

Dropped our dog off at 11:30 AM at 5:00 PM we went to pick her up and she still wasn't done we stopped in at 3:30 and he told us about another hour. Needless to say we paid for the grooming which only was a bath and took her home without ever getting clipped. Very poor service. read more

I love this pet store, at least for the fish department. I haven't shopped in other departments, so this review applies only to the fish department. First and foremost, when I first moved to Helena I did all of my aquarium shopping at Petsmart, and boy was that a mistake. They were clueless when it came to setting up tanks, the only thing they knew was the "1-inch per gallon" rule that anyone who is looking to start a tank should know. I went to Petco and Jeremiah in the fish department really helped us understand the importance of cycling a tank. Something Petsmart never mentioned. This is just one of many examples. All in all, Petco's employees are more knowledgeable and they seem to care more. I've never had a question unanswered at Petco. read more

I would like to say that I had been going to pet smart since I moved here six months because of the other comments below. But I went in and I felt it was nicer than pets mart in some ways. And I had really good customer service. I work in retail so that's really important to me. The only reason I'm giving it a 4 is because there was a younger employee there and we were on the same aisle as that employee and she didn't even say hi or ask us how we were doing. But I understand not always wanting to talk to people whether it's a bad day or what. So please don't pick out that one bad part of my review to heart. Also I noticed they didn't have a cat adoption area. But my two favorite things about my experience there was 1. I got 2 bags of purina puppy food for $20 when normally they are $15 a bag. So I was very excited about that. 2. The two women who helped us check out both new the name of a customer and her pet. And that really struck me because I've been into pet smart almost every two weeks since I got my puppy and in July and no one knows my name. And they are always stalking shelves and don't seem very happy to help. Now I get that thousands of people go into petsmart every week. But if someone is consistently walking in and spending money at an establishment that you are an employee of you should get to know them and their names to make them welcome and want to come back. Now I'm not saying that Petsmart is the worst pet shop to buy pet products from. But I believe that petco deserved a good review. Especially because I told my boyfriend I specifically didn't want to go into petco because of the reviews I read on here. Which I feel so stupid for now. I'm really impressed by this store. They are very helpful; excellent customer service. They also team up with a vet to provide really inexpensive shots. I take my dogs to the groomers there. They are great with my dogs and fast. Very impressed with the whole store. read more

We called a head of time in the search for snails. After getting a confirmation and an invite in we went.... no snails. This has happened twice now. Not only did we leave empty handed but we were greeted with terrible customer service by one lady in particular. If this wasn't the only pet store in Helena we wouldn't continue to shop here. read more

I take my dog into Petco anytime I bring him into town with me. The staff there are always friendly and helpful, they have an excellent selection of toys, treats, food, leashes, kennels, etc. My dog loves the store. Best pet supply store in town read more

What a worthless store. They NEVER have frozen mice for my snake. There coolers always seem to be broken. We bought some fish but they were contaminated with ick and all died within 2 months. i would not recommend this store even to my worst enemy. my husband and I were in your store on Sept 12, shopping for and inquiring about your turtles. We were blown away by your employee, Michael. He was informed, caring, helpful, knowledgeable, and a very good salesman. It was evident that he loved his job and really loves reptiles . He knew about the different turtles, really cared about them. Though we did not buy any then, we will definitly be back to get a few of thes ehealthy, happy little turtles.
