Pros outweigh Cons These are the two employees that stand out to me when I think of Petco's staff performance. Stephen. He's the best that I've encountered at this Petco location. Went to the Petco today and tried to do a return. It was all within the return policy. They were unopened items,we had a receipt, purchased on a credit card, and was part of their frequent buyer program. So they had many ways to look up our purchase. We had one item that was not on the receipt and it seems like they thought we stole the item or was making a fake receipt. The female manager who I believe named Amanda was very rude and called their district manager on how to proceed. She snatched the receipt from the gentleman helping us and basically treated us like criminals. She also told us that we were never welcomed to come back. read more

We stopped taking our dogs here. They treated our dogs fine. One of the techs was very friendly and good with our pets. However, the quality of the service and the price was not consistent. They have different packages, by the time you get your dog back you have spent 75 to 100 dollars. The primary reason for not going any longer. Somehow over the course of a few visits we were being serviced by same person. We do tip, however, the tech began throwing in "free" services, in exchange for tipping. It got to the point she told us when to come in so she would be there. We were being scheduled according to her schedule. It ended when she asked us to pay in cash, and not go to register. Went today in the morning to get some fish and was practically waiting for 40 minutes to get help while the guy there working was walking back and forth behind me. Another couple was there interested in purchasing some fish but they just left because they got tired of waiting. Clearly the worker was not concerned at the customers at all, it being not even busy. And when he finally got there he didn't even want to sell me any fish. There were dead fish in the tanks contaminating the healthy fish and this guy seemed too concerned the .20 cent fish I was going to get would grow too big for my tank. They should really put more emphasis on how they are treating their animals. read more

This is my old go-to for food and snacks. This store is very big and they have just about every type of food for dogs, including the no-grain/corn expensive stuff I give my guys. My only gripe is that the floors here can be very dirty sometimes, and some of the employees are a bit old and grumpy. But if you are looking for toys, snacks, food or clothes this place is good. They also have a dog cookie bar. Again, I can't comment on the grooming because I take my guys to a local boutique. We took our son's Dog Stitch for a hair cut in January 2018. This was his first hair cut. He is a very energetic Mid size Sheltie/poodle mix puppy and he suffers from separation anxiety. We had previously attempted to schedule him for a haircut at a different Petco location; but at that time the groomer felt that he was "too knotted" and required that we take him to the vet for his haircut. I went to the Petco in Edison and spoke to Pat (Ranh?) who offered an appointment later that same day and ask that we bring him in to see if she could do the haircut given that he was knotted, that this was his first haircut and that he is a very "energetic and anxious" puppy. When we arrived, Pat was absolutely wonderful with him. She approached him in a very safe and friendly manner and gave him the needed time to settle down and feel comfortable. She introduced him to the various tools that she would be using during the grooming while we were still there in order to make sure that he would be ok during the grooming. My dog looked beautiful after his grooming and he was smiling when we got back. Overall, an excellent experience. I would definitely come back! read more

This review is solely for their betta fish and everything related to that. I had previously gone to a PetsMart in search of a healthy betta fish and every single one there looked unhealthy. I went here and was happy to see that a majority of them were actually healthy despite the god-awful tiny standard containers that pet stores put them in. While other places really only have Half Moons and Veil Tails, this place had some of the rarer ones. I saw a Dragon Scale and a couple Elephant Ear bettas which I thought was interesting since those aren't as common. There was one little guy that looked like he was about to go belly up, but lots of them were just hanging out. The general condition of all their tails and fins were good. I went through just about all of them before picking out my little guy and noticed that only two of them had any tears or major cosmetic wear on them. I put my finger gently up to the side of pretty much each container and they all had a good reflex to it. I was asked if I needed help by an employee and when I told them I was simply choosing a fish, they took note that I really didn't want to be bothered and let me be. At checkout, they wished me luck with my new fish and asked if I was a first time betta fish owner. After saying that I was, they told me that if I had any questions, I could just call them and they'd get someone knowledgeable about fish to help me out, which I thought was nice. In terms of merchandise and stock, everything you need is here. There is a good variety of items for all budgets and price ranges and there is a great selection of decorations for your tank, no matter what the size is. I had already shopped for decorations for my tank, but I wish I hadn't when I came here. There was so much that would have been the perferct size for my little 1.5 gallon desktop tank, which isn't the case in a lot of other pet stores. They usually have larger decorations and plants that can only really fit larger tanks. Glad I came. If I'm in the market for another fish or new decor for the one that I purchased from here today, I will return here. read more

My wife and I took our six month old Morkie in for a cut before the holidays, the idea being we'd get him cleaned up for pictures with Santa. When we dropped him off, he was pretty scruffy, with fairly long hair with a fair bit of knots to be dealt with. We expected to get a different looking dog based on his losing so much hair but what we got practically horrified us: he was shaved to the skin, making him look skin and bones. There seemed to be no attempt on their part to manage any knots; they took the short cut and just buzzed his hair with less than a number one blade and kept his face a little more full...why his whole body couldn't have been spared this same easy is beyond us. We of course still love him, but we are absolutely appalled by the work done. read more

Awful..Disgusting .Do not take your pet there to be groomed.. wasn't there 30 seconds and I could feel the incompetence and unfriendliness of this lady called Pat, who says she owns it. First thing she says as I walk to the counter is "don't put your dog down" Then she says she can't groom him because he is too old and hasn't been groomed there before.. new or old what is the difference? Thankful I didn't leave my little schitzu in her hands.. Went to Petsmart where a loving and caring girl groomed him and fell in love with our little Louie.. I can see why there weren't any dogs being groomed there when I came in. Because our usual groomers were closed on this particular day, my husband and I decided to bring out 5 month old German Shepherd in to Petco to get groomed. We dropped our dog off (first appointment of the day) at 8:30am and I specifically told the groomer that we had to leave Petco by 10:30am. About half hour after dropping her off, the groomer came in the store to tell us that our dog wasn't behaving and was fighting her. She asked if our dog had ever been to the groomer and we told her that our dog has; she cried a bit during the drying process but overall, did just fine. The groomer went back and said she'd try to let our dog air dry (rather than getting blow dried) so maybe our dog wouldn't freak out so much. Another half hour later, the groomer came back out to tell us that our dog was still fighting her and that she wasn't going to be able to do anything further. Keep in mind that it took this groomer well over an hour to simply bathe our pup. The groomer at least made the smart decision of not charging us for anything but when we went to get her out of the grooming area, the groomer had the nerve to lecture us about how we need to train our German Shepherd. I WILL NEVER EVER TAKE MY DOG BACK TO PETCO FOR GROOMING! This was the worst grooming experience I have ever gone through! read more

I took my dog there and they cut my dog close to the eye. Than they said it didn't happen at the shop and my dog wasn't bleeding when he got there. Than all the staff plus manger told me its only a scratch but take him to the vet and give us the bill. Unbelievable how disengaged the employees are here. They don't seem to enjoy what they do and its almost like they try to pawn off the dog on the next person on the shift. It seemed to me that way at least with my dog he's a big puppy and understandably very hard to control, but I think training should be provided for this. Generally a OK store but seems lacking service skills and employee engagement. I can understand making mistakes and having a tough day at work in retail but you have to work to keep your employees engaged and focused on service. That's retail if you don't like it you'll be miserable. Says a lot about manager in the store and the assistants. read more

On Dec. 1. I got a call from a Patty saying I should bring my dog for a grooming. I normally take her to a groomer in Millstone. I decided I would give them a chance and made an appointment yesterday. Since my German Sheppard is young it was agreed I would meet her at 8:00 am. When she saw my dog and he was excited to see her. She said she is getting married in 2 weeks and can not get scratched or bit. She started walking off with my dog and he stopped to look at me. She said I am sorry but I can't groom your dog. I have had my dog groomed by Caroline for nearly 2 years now. I followed her from 2 different stores because not only is she good at what she does, but she treats me and my family (pup included) like her own. I once watched her carry my dog to the kennel area giving him kisses and hugging him. She does an amazing job & I am always comfortable leaving my baby boy with her. He gets so excited when he sees her too. The store its self isn't spectacular, especially compared to the other two she worked at. This store looks a bit run down, it's a little messy, and on the weekends the area outside the salon is crowded with animals that are up for adoption which makes it hard to maneuver a dog, a husband, and a stroller, but it's worth it to know not only is my little guy going to look amazing, but he is in safe & loving hands. read more

We adopted Adam, our Cane Corse in December 2017. A week after we got him, we brought him in to Petco in Edison and met with Patricia the groomer. Pat was WONDERFUL. Adam took to her immediately. She gave us much welcomed advice on general care and tip on handling him. Since then, we've brought Adam in to the Edison Petco twice more for grooming. The second time, Pat, unfortunately was not available. The young lady that groomed him was rude to my husband and apparently was not happy that Adam was a little bit flatulent. (He IS a dog, after all, and doesn't quite have people manners, ya know?). The third time we brought him in for grooming, just this past month, Miss Pat was there and Adam was so happy to see her. He went right in with no fuss and came home nice and groomed and happy. We love Miss Pat and her friendliness and her very obvious love of dogs in general. She always has good advise and a smile. I took my puppy in this past weekend to see their vet and get her shots. I stopped by the grooming department on the way out. I asked them for a cut and trim her nails. They were supposed to call me back when ready (after 2 hours). I ended up calling them 2 & 1/2 hours later and they said to come pick her up in 30 minutes. When I went in, the lady told me to go pay first and then come back. Also, she said I gave her a nail spa treatment (Which I never asked for). My dog is a tiny shih-tzu, I ended up paying $45 for cut and extra $25 for her nails. I was SHOCKED to pay $75. She took my dog out o the kennel, and I was again, SHOCKED because the cut was soooo ugly and uneven. She didn't even bother blow-drying her hair afterward and he nails were still long and sharp. She said to me I couldn't get her thumbs because she was scared...???!!!! Wtf am I paying you for then?? I was so disappointed and needless to say, I'm NEVER taking my dog there again to get groomed. First and LAST time. read more
