I've been with Petco since 2008 stayed at the same store until 2020 moved from Calif didn't think twice of resuming my dogs getting groomed but after 3 visits at the Gonzales store things got really iffy and yet wasn't upset, but my experience at this DS store was the last straw the groomer was very sweet and I thought this is it no more looking but when I picked up my dog his tail was all choppy, she attempted to fix it but it didn't work the inside of both front legs were shaved extremely close to his skin and after I got home there was a nick near his sanitary area that wasn't from anything other than clippers or scissors and his nails looked like they were clipped I paid for buffing the two stars are for how kind the groomer was not for the job she did needles to say I won't be back btw I didn't notice his legs until I got home read more

Terrible. We were refused to purchase freshwater fish the smallest size. Our process from beginning to an end what a constant discouragement by staff. We purchased all the equipment from petco Denham, then were told that we can not buy the fish that goes in the tanks they offer, again, the smallest fish possible. Three employee lectures, then finally after following all the instructions they demanded from us to do, today we go to get the fish, and again were refused. Spoke with a manger who was worse than the staff. Went to another market offering the same fish, and my child's first fish purchase was enjoyable than reprimanded. I don't believe a first tank for should be a large tank, and I don't believe in crowding fish , and I don't believe fish grows over night. Fish comes with warranty, who knew! Staff are all very unhelpful, they seem to dislike their job. They close at 8 and we were not served at 7:50 told us to "come back tomorrow." Habitats look very poorly maintained and the stench is awful. Won't be going back went 3 weeks in a row and had horrible experience with employees which seems to be a store or management problem. read more

This location was THE WORST PETCO I HAVE EVER BEEN IN! I walked in to purchase some puppy shots for my puppies and there was a older lady sitting by the grooming part sorting through a box while talking on her phone. I walked over to the grooming part and was waiting to ask her about what I needed and she wouldn't even look at me! Then she got up and walked to the end of the front cash register and went through a door while STILL talking on her phone! So I walked over to the main cash register after looking around and seeing NOT ONE employee! I stood thereover 24 Min. The only thing there was a white looking lizard in a baby stroller on top of a stuffed animal with a light shinning on him. I finally got fed up and left and WILL NEVER GO BACK! If the lizard is the only one that's going to be at the register maybe he should be on the payroll! read more

I ordered off of instacart and I thought everything was fine. I opened the new 30lb bag of the merrik healthy grains dry large dog food and poured it in the airtight bin and fed her that next morning. So... that night I fed her dinner and had her bowl on the counter as I was fixing it, I put a topper on the dry food. I placed it down for her and when I went to clean off my counter, I saw what I thought was a worm. When I when to look at her food she was scarfing down... I could see some of them on the side of her plate, crawling on the floor. I checked her wet food and nothing, I checked her dry food and seen them all through it. They are brown just like the food so that's why I didn't see them earlier. I was so disgusted. I looked it up and it's pantry moth larvae. I've never seen this before but I read they can infest your home if you don't get rid of it right away. I won't be shopping here anymore. read more

I am lost for words.. i wanted to get my mom a mother's day gift so she wanted rats, i ended up loving them endlessly just to find out my rat has a upper respiratory infection and is only 4 weeks old!!! i am devastated and i don't have the money to get any antibiotics atm being that i spent it all on my 2 rats, petco doesn't care about the animals atall. only good thing is i went 2 days later and talked to a lady that was beyond nice and i loved talking to her, i wish i got her name! she was an older lady and told me all about the birds and rats. read more

Booked a grooming appointment online. Completed the process, and there were no questions asked about heart murmurs or mention of a policy. Go to the store to receive my service, and the manager refused to bathe my dog due to a small heart murmur that she has always had, even though she's even groomed at this exact location in the past with no issue, and receives all vet care at this location. I was upset, but I left and went to Petsmart instead. I found out once I got there that the manager had called Petsmart to try and prevent my receiving grooming services there. I would have left this alone, but the attempted sabotage is what just went above and beyond what is acceptable for an employee. My pet did receive grooming at Petsmart, because she formerly received vet care there, and she has received grooming there prior. The heart murmur is so insignificant that her vet has never even added it to her chart. That's what I get for being honest. read more

Every time we go here to get fish the lady says "sorry but they are getting medicated for fungus and I don't want to sell them to you" there are no signs saying that they are getting medicated for fungus. It takes hour just to get an employee to come and help you even if the store is empty they find ways to ignore you. Just go the extra miles to petsmart it is worth the 5 more minutes to go to petsmart. read more

I had the misfortune of dinning at burger king yesterday at the same time as your manager, DJ...he was irate that it took 10 minutes to be served, and began yelling at staff and even other Burger King customers, (two elderly ladies), who were ahead of him, all while wearing his Petco uniform and telling everyone he had to 'get back to work' over there. It was a very uncomfortable and hostile situation. I was already upset to see him talk to two older ladies like he did. And the poor girl trying to do the job of three people behind the counter. He was irate, and demanding and chose to sit next to me, my elderly mother and my 7 year old autistic child, even though the establishment was empty with exception to us and the other elderly ladies he'd already screamed at. Every time my son would make a noise he'd huff with exasperation. Then he had nerve to whip his head around and give my child a dirty look!!! I told him he needed to whip his head right back around! He chose to sit near a child when he had the entire restaurant to sit alone! If he hated kids he shouldn't have 'freely chosen' to sit by us! We had a few more words but it ended with him telling me to, "get a life". He was still in uniform so, he was still representing Petco, in my opinion, so this makes me not want to be a customer at petco in the future as I do not want to risk seeing him again. read more

I go here from time to time to get my dog food and other items. Each experience here seems to be different depending on the employee I talk to. Most are very nice and helpful, they have good info and recommendations. But I've had a few instances where you could tell that they were not real interested in providing help or even dealing with me. I don't believe that is a reflection on the store, but on the individual. But as far as the store goes. They have s ton of pet supplies ranging from food to toys to habitats to small pets themselves. You pretty much can get anything for your pet here.They also provide pet grooming and training programs. read more

Brought my dog into the Denham Springs, Louisiana location on Tuesday 1/31/13 at 9am for a haircut because I didn't have the HOUR to spare to do it myself. I told the woman I wanted the whole dog clipped as short as possible. THE WHOLE DOG. Face and everything. She even repeated face back to me. Three and a half hours later, she called to say she was done. When I arrived, she handed my dog to me with a full head of hair and full tail. I said that was not what I wanted so she took her away and spent 2 minutes half-ass trimming her face and tail up. Still not what I paid for. Waste of time and money. read more

So After considering getting my daughter a pet, we decided a guinea pig would work well for her age, she's 4. We went to Petco around 5:30 pm on Friday to take a look and see if she was still interested. After about 20 Minutes, I finally found a worker and asked if we could hold the guinea pig, she said "no not really unless you are really committing to buy, I never heard anything like that in my life. How do I know if I want it without ever holding this particular Guinea pig. I asked her could I see the male they had for adoption, she said No AGAIN. She said they don't like to bring them out in the store. So now I can't se it and can't hold it unless I'm buying it. Super confused. I asked her what does it look like. Again she didn't know. she finally went to the back and showed me pictures when she came back. I said Okay we will take the male. She walked around for another 15 minutes like she was unsure if she wanted to give me the guinea pig. If my daughter wasn't with me I would have definitely left at this point. I collected the Guinea pigs things and waited at the register. Finally we got to leave. I got home and discovered my husband had picked up everything we needed except the Vitamins (which I had bought from Petco just now). So on Saturday I went o return the unused items. Nope. I told her we had everything we needed, She didn't want to do the return. I told her more than once we had everything and reluctantly made the return while questioning whether or not I had everything. Kinda disappointed I bought a fish that was sick from here. I lost my receipt must of fell out my pocket in the parking lot. The next day I wanted to return him.I had the yellow purchase card and I used my rewards card but they said they said I couldn't do it without my receipt. I was a 10.00 fish I bought within 24 hours. This was a waste of my gas. I'm 17, and my boyfriends 10 year old brother wanted a fish and my boyfriend needed crickets to feed his pet alligator lizard. So we went to Petco in denham and I asked the lady up front (who had an attitude from the start but I approached her very kindly and asked nicely) "could we get some help getting a fish?" And she hesitated and rudely replied, "well are you 18?" I said "no ma'am, I'm 17 but his brother wanted his first pet fish so we were going to get him it." And she goes in a scoff "do you have a tank set up? And it has to be set up 2 weeks and then you have to bring the water test up here to show it is safe for the fish." So I said "oh okay yes ma'am" and went to walk off and his little brother asked if he could pet one of the cats (there was an 8 year old earlier petting the cats.) and I asked and she sarcastically smiled and said "18." So we walked off. So my boyfriend needed help getting the crickets and asked the lady and she goes, "what are they going to be used for?" He said to feed his lizard and she said with a huge attitude "you have to be 18 to purchase anything live." The thing is, we have purchased crickets here before without being 18. No one even asked for our age. She just didn't want to leave her register and made that very clear. Least to say, I will not be going back here if I can't even purchase food for a lizard. read more
