We occasionally go here when we need dog treats and for s few other pet-related items. In the last several months, they have been going downhill regarding the quality of the service they offer. I realize staffing is a problem almost everywhere you go, but it still could be improved. We witnessed two store associates get into an argument with each other over going to the bathroom. Every time we go, we have to wait almost ten minutes at the register for someone to come and check us out. I think three stars is a bit generous, but we will go there if we don't feel like driving to a better pet store. read more

I went into the Dawsonville store this morning around 10am. I found what I needed and went to the check-out. No one was there. I stood there for what seemed like a long time. Finally, I yelled out "HELLO?" and after a bit, Kayla (or was it Kaylee?) sauntered up like she was on a slow stroll through the park. She never apologized for my long wait or even spoke to me at all except to ask for my phone number. When she was done, I thanked her (and really, she should be thanking me for my purchase) and silence. She came across as not wanting to be there and rude. People that work in stores represent the store. I won't be going back. Chewy has 100% of my business going forward. read more

This is our Petco and we go here mostly for grooming. We have a monthly appointment for our girls to see Shannon. We love Shannon and our girls love her too. She is friendly, loves animals and our girls will go with her. Other groomers our dogs will lock up and pull hard to get away from a person and we trust their instinct. They don't do that here or with Shannon and because of that they get our business. The rest of Petco is what you would expect in look, feel and products. The have fish including a selection of saltwater. They have cats for adoption right by grooming along with ferrets, hamsters and birds. All in all a great location and for us a fantastic groomer. read more

Well, first off right when I walked in there was throw up all down one of the isles. I proceeded to go around the grotesque puke and got my dog food. When we got to the counter the only workers were at the fish department feeding fish. We politely said "excuse me" and they just turned and said "your welcome". We waited a bit longer and asked if we could get some help and got no response. read more

Very clean store. Pretty new, so never as busy as other locations. Employees have been helpful in the aquatics department and very friendly with my kids. They had some kitties available for adoption today. read more

In February we became the proud parents of an Aussie. We quickly learned that an Aussie is "smarter than we are." She was uncontrollable and my arms were scarred because of bites. Fortunately, we attended Puppy Play with Nicole one Sunday. She immediately picked our puppy up and began loving on her. She encouraged us to enroll in Puppy Level 1 & 2 which we did. Our baby is a different puppy after five weeks of training. She does not have a tail but Nicole makes her little nub wiggle and she gets all of her kisses. Brandon, Shay and all of the other employees are the best. No question goes unanswered nor need unaddressed. Thanks PETCO! read more

I have made a number of purchases at Petco over the years and have been satisfied with their products and especially the employees. They have been able to answer many questions and had numerous recommendations that were a big help. So you can imagine how disappointed I was with my recent visit to the petco in Dawsonville. Our new puppy has been raiding the trash can in the kitchen and recently I purchased some spray called Natures Miracle which is supposed to be a pet blocker. Well I tested it on a small piece of paper towel. Long story short, the dog ate it. There was no blocking at all. I then decided to take the product back to the store along with the receipt on which the register printed the product could be returned for $14.95. Upon arrival at the store I was told the return policy had been suspended indefinitely. Additionally, the back of the receipt said it had to be returned within 60 days to get a refund. I left the store and called customer service. The customer service supervisor said in fact the refund program was suspended and I should keep the receipt until the policy changes. I said I had made a deal with them as defined on their receipt and they reneged on that deal. They could not give me a date when or if I would get a refund. I will be filing a complaint with the appropriate authorities. I do not recommend doing business with Petco. read more

I have a VERY timid and scared little Yorkie. She hates to ride or be anywhere except home. I have taken her to another large grooming company before and walked in and caught the groomer pulling on her fur and yelling at her to be still. Needless to say I LOST IT!! After that my husband has been grooming her for years now. Well she has gotten so bad about being groomed that he even accidentally nipped her ear twice so now he has refused to groom her. Sooooo I decided to try Petco. I walked in with my fur baby and talked with the lady (Jessica) who was going to groom her. I explained every to her and she assured me that she would take extra good care of Opal. JESSICA WAS THE BEST!! Opal did so good with her. I'm not sure how she got Opal to be calm and let her groom her but she did! Jessica really has a gentle touch for stressed out fur babies! We will definitely be seeing Jessica again!! read more

A friend of ours recommended Shannon in Pet Grooming. We have been to many groomers and didn't love any of them so decided to give Shannon a try. I'm SO glad I did....we took our Goldendoodle, Maple, in for full service - first time she has ever been groomed. She looked amazing!!! She is so happy with her new hair-do!!! Disappointing. The Dawsonville Petco went from the only place I would take my animal to to the place I avoid shopping. In the beginning I trained with a Mr. AJ Paws and might I say he is the best thing that could've come into my life. I had a unruly shelter dog. He helped me get control and now a year and a half later we are looking at taking the CGC test. Sadly I refuse to do so at the Dawsonville location and will be doing it at the Cumming Location with the amazing Amy. The reason I will never suggest, support, or refer people to the Dawsonville location is simply one reason their trainer Nicole. Before she was a trainer she was a regular employee that was to help customers find what their pets needed and as a desperate new dog owner I was I looked to her a supposedly trained "professional" for guidance. She kept getting me the same food and daily I went back in hopes to find something else. No matter what I did my dog continued to be sick. After explaining to her that my dog had a bird and beef allergy she still pressed me to get a chicken and rice food. Thanks to AJ I got on Canidae Pure Sea and he went from skin and bones to the healthy 65 lbs he is now. So first issue she doesn't listen because she thinks she knows best, and truth be told her truth is not better than that of a vet. The second issue is she takes credit for all of my dogs training in front of other customers. She had no hand in any of my dog's training whatsoever. Three she bashes The other employees and the other trainers from other locations. Everyone knows that this is bad business and it just makes her look sloppy and incompetent. Four she's constantly misleading new clients and is teaching bad practice and is going unchecked by corporate. This is now the third time I've heard one of my friends tell me that they've been told by the trainer at the Dawsonville location that they should hit their dog and if the dog does not yelp they didn't hit the dog hard enough. It's disappointing to see Petco promoting animal abuse instead of positive reinforcement training. Every company has a bad apple and I understand that but the fact that she's gone unchecked for this long and is now promoting abuse.... disgusting and the worst part of it all Petco is letting her train a new trainer is disturbing to say the least. read more

Amazing!! The employees are super kind and always love to interact with your dog. I absolutely love taking my crazy 5 month old lab each week and he has a blast. They have a huge selection of toys, treats, and chews, so it's nearly impossible to leave without grabbing at least one little toy. read more
