If I could give zero stars I would. Today I was charged an additional 20 dollars for using the self dog wash. I took longer because I was waiting for the ONLY hair dryer to become available. That is terrible. Add to this the arrogance and lack of customer service from Brandon the customer representative. Not only did he not explain to he was going to charge me extra, and only addressed it after I asked, when I attempt to explain that I was waiting for the only hair dryer to be free he tells me, well there's nothing we can do expect give you extra towels if you want. Please do better. This isn't even about the 20 dollars. It's about the lack of customer care ( one hair dryer for 3 stations), the dismissive and arrogant behavior from Brandon, and then the resistance to even provide a contact email for the store manager. I also have noticed based on other reviews that this is not an isolated case. I've worked in customer facing roles my entire life and there is a right way and a wrong way to treat customers, actually just people in general. Rules are rules but there is a different way to deliver information and it can be done with clarity, without an attitude and in a way that makes customers feel heard and valued. I will not be returning and hope that at the very least this message leads to changes so no one else needs to deal with this. read more

I have been coming to this Petco for 2 years now and have noticed several disappointing changes. I used to be charged $15 for a 30 minute wash. They then changed the policy to $20 for a 45-minute wash. Recently, they changed it again to a 30-minute wash for $20.00. I have also noticed their bathrooms have been closed for months. With only one blow dryer for three stations, I also don't see how this is an equitable approach for customers and pets. I was also notified they now charge for extra attachments for the blow dryer-I was to told this after I had given my dog a bath. Thankfully I did not use any attachments. I wish this company/location was more transparent with their information, especially for the self-cleaning service. I will not recommend this place to friends and family and I will be seeking services elsewhere. read more

I really like this Petco location - it's all shiny & new. It's always very well organized and very clean which are huge pluses at a pet store. The only downside is it's a bit smaller than some other Petco locations which means slightly smaller selection. Because it's so small I always only see 1-2 employees working which is cool by me. I have zero idea what the difference between an Unleashed vs normal Petco is but this location is of the Unleashed variety! I have been coming to this Petco for years. They know me and my pup Henry. We love to come see Moe and all the great little deals they have to offer. It is a small Petco but it is very clean and cute. On my last visit though I had a very weird interaction with their new dog trainer. He kept trying to get me to change my food to the food that he was giving his dog. I kept polietly refusing but he would keep pushing. I buy Acana and I know that is top of the market food. It was very irritating because I just wanted to buy my food and leave, but I still love the store because of the years of service and will continue to return the rest of the employees are lovely. read more

My husband and I really like the self wash station for our puppy. It's one of the best set ups HOWEVER, we were just told for the second time that it was closed - once for weather (which I understand) - but tonight, it was because it closed at 6:30pm. The store is open til 8pm. I get that the workers may want to go home after their shift but I would also like to wash my dog after I get out of work. I also understand that it takes time to clean but an hour and a half is a bit much, in my opinion. I really love and enjoy this Petco Boutique location. Their prices are good in comparison to the "big box" pet stores and even the on-line ones as well. On June 29, 2021 at approximately 11:30 am I was helped by Moe (associate 298332) in setting up the dog identification tag for my 12 year old rescue yorkie Katie. I needed to get this done correctly because as it turns out Katie has two microchips (one from her original owner and one from the rescue shelter I adopted her from), Moe walked me through all the steps which was great and I got exactly what I wanted. I took my 7 pound Yorkie to petco for a $15 Rabies shot. They sold me a $121 shot package. I had no problem with that because I want to do the right thing for my pet. When it was our turn the vet told me that my dog was too small to get all her shots at once and would have to come back in two weeks to receive the balance of shots. After waiting a month i called and a woman named Joyce told me that i was mistaken and that my dog was fully vaccinated. I told her what her vet said and she denied it. She then proceeded to try and sell me more services. Customer service is a waste of time , i waited on hold for 18 minutes and then was hung up on. DON'T GO HERE EVER ! read more

i live in the area and recently adopted an adult rescue dog. i called the store and even came in to the store to leave my information for the dog trainer. the trainer never called me back, so i followed up with the store and let them know i never got an update. the person who took my call was the same rep i left my information with the day i came. he reassured me he'll pass my info on to the trainer. this past weekend i received a call from the store's manager instead and reassured me that they haven't forgotten about me but are still in the process of finding a resident trainer for their store. he told me he'd let me know when enrollment for future sessions begin. i like how they went above and beyond for me! i went to the store yesterday to get a few things for my dog, and the cashier who took my info and answered my call was working. he remembered me and gave my dog a treat. really good customer service all around, especially for someone who's a new dog mom and likes to leave good and bad yelp reviews! read more

Overpriced, a semi-okay corporate attempt to compete with the small unique boutiques. Except its basically the same thing as a regular Petco, only everything is a bit more expensive. All of the toys were the same. The biggest difference between the two is the vast selection of dog clothes at unleashed. Another plus is that they carry a decent selection of specialty dog foods. There's nothing special about this place. I'd rather support the small local dog botiques that are everywhere in Chicago. read more

My pup's favorite thing to do is come here. He enjoys browsing the rawhides and getting cookies for the week. He also likes the selection of beds and we ended up purchasing one here last year. Granted it was $70, he appreciates it for his arthritis. read more

Horrible grooming experience. The one groomer that they have, Sarah, received both my dogs at 10:30am. Around 4:30 I receive a call from her. I expected after 6 hours my dogs had completed their bath and trim and were ready to be picked up. Nope, she just wanted to call and tell me that my younger dog's tail was too matted for her to deal with so she shaved it almost completely off. (This is despite SPECIFIC instructions for both to keep their tails and ears longer, and to NOT CUT THEIR EYELASHES). Okay, fine. It was summer time and despite her cutting off his puppy hair, maybe it was matted, although I never heard that from his previous half-dozen grooms. At no time in this conversation did she say there was any other issues, and when asked when they would be done she claimed another hour or so. At around 6:30 I noticed a missed call and booked it right over, feeling bad that I had left my pups waiting. At this point they had been at Petco for over 8 hours, and had not consumed anything other than bath water, and did not have the opportunity to go relieve themselves. This is a more deep seeded policy issue that needs to be taken up at the corporate level, they need to be aware that the animals left in their employees' care are being treated as such. When I arrived at Petco, expecting both my dogs looking fresh and clean, I entered a disaster area. My older dog was barely 10% into his groom, and other than a shaved tail and some shaved down torso my younger dog had not been completed AT ALL. When asked what the issue was, Sarah said her razor was not working properly and she just received a new one from her sister store, so she could cut them properly now. AFTER 8 HOURS she suddenly had a realization that the main tool of her trade was not functioning properly?? And instead of calling and informing me, and offering another appointment day to complete their groom after their bath, the most reasonable course of action in such a situation, she continued to butcher their hair, cut both their tails way too short, and CUT OFF TONY'S EYELASHES. This is especially upsetting to me since it was not only clearly notated and verbally told multiple times before the groom, Sarah just did not give a single care. She did not care about the dogs' looks, the owner's instructions, the dogs' well being and health over the course of 8 hours, nor any level of professionalism or skill. When her manager finally called me back, Luis I think his name was, the only solution he could give me was to BRING MY DOGS BACK TO SARAH. He refused to coordinate with a sister store to find me an alternative groomer, stating the maximum monetary value he could offer was $4. No, I will not make that same mistake. I hope this experience sheds light on the dismal conditions of this Petco location's grooming center. My dogs look like a hot mess, and I'll be searching for another groomer to clean up Sarah's mess. read more

Walked over to the shopping center for dinner. Not sure I had ever noticed that Petco Junior, er, Unleashed was here. Obviously it's smaller than the regular sized Petco that I was about to head over to on Ashland after dinner. One of the guys approached me when I walked in and asked what I needed. Told him cat food. Showed me the dry food, showed me the wet food. They had what I wanted. Even better, unlike the Petco on Ashland, they had cases of the cat food instead of single cans. Easier to carry a case home. The second guy working was behind the counter helping another customer when I walked up to pay. The guy who helped me originally thought the girl working was there to ring me up. She wasn't and he came up and apologized for me having to wait. I hardly waited at all. No big deal. Every time I bring my sheltie for a bath here it is disgusting yet have to stay because I don't have a better option based the available open hours. I just left here so I'll share my latest experience. I came about 5:45pm and everything is dirty. Absolutely no apparent maintenance. The baskets that are to have all the equipment are disgusting, old and full of hair. The bath tubs have what I think is mold or dirt on the edges. There were no clean aprons so I begrudgingly took a used one. Luckily I brought my own shampoo, brush and scissors. Around 6pm the rep says, FYI, the bath closes in 15min. Nowhere is that posted, not online, not in the area, nothing. My own translation, "I want to clean so I can go home early". That was upsetting because they didn't clean earlier, but the paying customer who has to finish grooming the dog has to leave? To boot the garbage is full. Oh, and there is no correct size chain to secure the dog on the grooming table. Furthermore, I couldn't finish grooming my dog because I had to leave because they closed it. I was in my car at 6:20pm. They closed at 7:00pm today. This was not right. read more

This review is for their dog training program. We took our 7 month old border collie mix to the adult 1 class and had a great experience. They focused on positive reinforcement and Beth did a great job teaching us how to train our dog properly. She always had tips and hints for us in any problem areas as well. After the 6 week class our dog was sitting, laying down, staying and walking well on a leash. With any training class you need to be committed as a pet parent to see results, but this class gave us the knowledge to train our pup in a positive and motivating way. I absolutely recommend! As for the store as a whole, I found everyone to always be very friendly and knowledgeable. read more

Petco is hopping on the holistic pet lovers' bandwagon. They are slowly opening up their own version of the "premium pet store". This location smartly opened up in the same mall as a Mariano's (the location scout must have been thinking that if you're the type of person who would buy premium groceries for yourself then you would also be willing to go premium for your furry friend. And you, sir, are very much correct). The size of the store is a little smaller than typical Petcos but have that same terrible fluorescent lighting that gives a store that Walmart feel. Other things they have: - a selection of grain-free dog food including brands like Innova and Royal Canin, but didn't see the Fromm's brand we feed our little guy. - $10 self dog wash that includes the typical amenities like shampoo, conditioner, brush, towel, and dryer - grand opening specials included lots of sales and freebies (we made out with a free frisbee, a bag of dog treats, and some doggy ice cream!) Since we live right by a Kriser's, which I still prefer, we probably won't frequent the Unleashed unless we are in the area. read more

I was happy this place opened since the addition of a pet store to this strip mall makes it one stop shopping area. The pet store doesn't have as much as a Petco would but it has enough to get by. I wish they had a larger cat section but they do have all the brands I usually get from the larger store. They do have a do it yourself dog wash which would be great if I had a dog but I don't so it really isn't that great for me. I shop here quite often and the prices seem a little higher than other stores but they are fine. read more

We have a pitbull and I understand the connotation about pitbulls but to walk into a pet store and be looked at so maliciously by a single employee was disturbing. Phil is absolutely amazing. I walked in with a stray puppy I found yesterday morning and he went above and beyond to help me figure out what she needed. He was incredibly patient in helping find the right size harness, recommending puppy food and the right crate. The staff here are knowledgeable and very obviously animal lovers, which might seem like a prerequisite but there are other pet supply stores that stuff some not so kind folks. To my dismay, Petsmart does not sell Merrick's. So I googled the closest Petco to me, and came across this hidden gem. I never noticed it in the shopping center until today. It's definitely a smaller Petco, but the employees there are SUPER nice and helpful. The only name I can remember is Samantha, who was super sweet and even gave my dog a treat for the car ride home. I wish I could remember the other two gentlemen because they were super considerate with my dog as well. I'll definitely be going back to this particular Petco. My Pitty loves it there! read more

Yes, it's a big box store, but they are incredibly friendly and helpful. I went in today to use the self-serve dog wash, $10 is a steal and they provide everything! Paul was especially nice and gave my pup extra handfuls of cookies. This is the first of these stores in the Midwest for Petco. Store is smaller and in a good location near Toys R Us and Mariano's on Western Ave. Great selection of REAL dog food - sorry no crap here - which is tough to find outside some of the boutique stores in the area. Although I still love my guys at Sam & Willy's, its not as easy for me to get there now that we moved. Really great thing is that they have three self serve dog washes - no time limit - for only $10 bucks. Fully stocked with towels, soap, brushes, etc. There just aren't many of these around here. I love my groomer, but sometimes i just want to do it myself and not have the hassle of the tub at home Staff was very nice and helpful too. It really depends on who is working. There's a guy named Mike (i think, older gentleman) that is the nicest man. He always goes out of his way to say hello, give my dogs cookies, recommend a new treat. I'm disappointed when I go in and he's not working. The rest of the employees could take a cue from him. If you don't sell the item I am looking for, make a recommendation, instead of walking away. If you dont have the size i'm looking for, offer to order it for me instead of shrugging your shoulders and walking away. What really prompted this review was yesterday's Santa Paws event. I get that the money is going to charity, but for the love Santa, smile. Please smile, be holly and jolly. I don't know why we ever try to go anywhere else for pet stuff. We have 2 dogs (one medium one smallish) and a cat, and they've had everything we've ever needed. More than once we've ended up here after scouring other nearby pet stores for various supplies. Got a *really* nice cat carrier on clearance for like 20 bucks last year. And after walking/driving all around the north side in search of sweaters/jackets on two different occasions, we came here and they had a huge selection at a great price. The employees are always SUPER nice and always give the dogs a treat or two, and sometimes a couple to take home for free. Next time, I'll remember to go here first. read more

Our dog is allergic to gluten (high maintenance for sure) so we have to get him special food which they carry!! I used to have it shipped via Amazon and now I can just run in and pick up food and even TREATS that don't make him sick!! Everyone here is extremely kind and so helpful (they always try to carry my bags to the car but I got it:)!) they also hold dog and cat adoptions on the weekends from no kill shelters only. There's a bunch of different animal shelters and you can choose one to donate to when you're checking out which I like because I feel like I know where my money is going and what it's being used for. read more

Of course our furry daughter loves her visits every time and we always come out of their spending money I think it's because of the confidence in the products that they sell and the knowledge that the management and its staff know about the products they have not steered us bad once! We all have choices and where we can make and take our business. I'm not a yelper, but I was treated very well and thought I would come here and post about it, as he deserve the positive feedback and review. The manager with salt and pepper hair (I don't remember his name) was great to us, he even sat on the floor and played with out puppy, he let her give him kisses and sit on his lap, asked if it were ok and gave her treats, then even taught her to high-five in less than five minutes. He made her day, plus my day since he's good looking AND price matched her 30 lb bag of food, which PetSmart has for about $2 cheaper. read more

4 stars for cutesy dog clothes and accessories, 2 stars for customer service. Stopped in today for dog food. Every option was really expensive. But they have an awesome little side bar of cute decorated dog cookies and treats, which I am a sucker for. I am also a sucker for dog clothes, lol. Which they have a good collection of. As for the staff, a chubby hispanic guy gave me some really friendly service while I was looking around the dog food section. I appreciated that he didn't scoff at me when I told him my price range for a bag of food. Times are hard, man! But he made some wonderful suggestions that I might come back and try. Thennnn in the next isle a lady who seemed angry as soon as I walked in (being that she didn't greet us or even offer up a smile) asked if I needed any help finding something. This store is so bad now. I use to go to this Petco every Sunday like clock work. The staff use to greet us & our dog always got a treat. But the last 2x I went here a new man started to walk around behind us and make me feel bad because I did not buy anything. I wanted to get a bone for pepper but the man did not let us look at the bones he kept trying to sell us stuff we did not need or want. He is the manager and The nice staff no longer gives pepper treats anymore the manager will not let them and they all seem to be hating to work there now. Purchased a dog crate from Unleashed by Petco, it came without the screws that hold it together. Went back with the receipt several hours later to get the screws. The manager on duty didn't have the professional courtesy to even come out of the office, instead sent out the sales clerk to inform me I needed to return the crate. I purchased it because I needed it for tomorrow. They had the screws laying in the crates in the store, but would not give any to me. Very rude treatment. read more

I went here to pick up some training treats for my dogs. Garo came to my assistance quickly and pointed out the Zuke's product line as a popular choice for training treats, and he also showed me the bin of items that were price-reduced. I ended up spending about a dollar on exactly what I wanted after digging around in there. Every other time I've gone into the store, I've been able to find products that meet my overly-analytical specifications, and the employees have always been helpful and friendly. I will definitely be back in the future, and I make sure my pet-owning coworkers know that this place is just around the corner! read more
