I'm giving this place a 2 star review because they have been great when it comes to clipping and grinding my dogs for a while but as of today I had been told I had no called no showed 5 times. I have never intentionally mean to no call them but I have a busy work life to the point where there are times where I am at work longer than I should be like today! I took my two dogs for grooming and Petco has a 20% discount if you book online for a second dog but apparently she's not educated with the online pricing. However that one issue. The second issue is that just because I mentioned the discount she accused me of mocking her and being rude and after a 45 minute drive to get to this store she denied me service because she felt I was going to be a problematic client and I was going to seek for a refund. How horrible for her to judge me and label me. Not only that but she played the victim part saying I was rude when she was the rude one. She's some crazy lady with big issues!!! I'm not usually a Karen. It takes a lot for me to lose my cool. But I've had nothing but terrible experiences over the last week. To start with. I bought a female betta for my sorority. Once I got home I realized she had some sort of disease. I treated her and she seemed in perfect health. I placed her in my sorority. Less than a week later all of my female bettas started dropping like flies. Something I've never seen like the fastest acting fin rot I've ever seen in my life. I was beyond pissed. I returned all of my dead fish and expressed my concerns in a not so nice way. I pointed out the MOD Sean how their fish are almost never healthy. Everytime I walk in and see 3 dead bettas 4 with swim bladder 1 with popeye and 3 with some sort of infection. Their community tank fish are almost always ill. Whether it's with ick or just plain dead. His excuse was there is 65 tanks and it's hard to keep track. I told him it's not that hard since I notice it all within 5 min or less. Hire more employees? The quality of your pets is more important than your sales? I purchased a female betta from the laplata Petco and when I got home I realized it was labeled wrong and it was indeed a male. I've been keeping bettas for over 5 years I know how to sex them. I returned "her" to the California Petco the same day I brought in all my dead diseased fish. I explained to the MOD Sean how this betta was a male marked as a female and how awful that could've gone. If an inexperienced betta owner decided they wanted to give breeding a try. They would've ended up with two dead males thinking one was a female. If I had put him in my sorority I would've either had a ridiculous amount of betta fry or multiple dead/wounded females. He agreed with me 100%. So tell me why my boyfriend walks in a few days later to scoop up all of the female bettas and comes home and I see that same male still marked as a female. I'm pissed. I go to return "her" AGAIN. This time I'm greeted by the MOD Leslie. Who takes the fish somewhere else. Comes back and tells me it's a girl. I said no it is definitely not. She said yes it most definitely is. I said no it is not. Its ventral fins are much too long and most importantly...HE doesn't have an egg spot (which all females have because it's where they release their eggs) she proceeds to tell me its the other way around and egg spot means its a male. I said are you kidding me? Mind you in all my interactions with the managers I used multiple curse words because my frustration was and still is beyond what words can describe. She proceeds to take the fish again and come back with an employee named Michael. Who I firmly love he has given me lots of fish and has always been great. However he too apparently doesn't know how to sex a betta because he starts explaining to me how it is a female. The ventral fins are too short and thin. Along with the fins themselves being short. Because apparently plakat bettas are no longer a thing. I said "so you 100% guarantee me that if I put this betta into my sorority there is 0% chance of fry." They both said yes and Leslie asked if I still wanted my refund. I said well if you both are 100% sure then no I'll take him home and throw him in my sorority. I proceeded to take my "female" to petsmart. I have no explanation simply held my "female" to the lady who is always in the fish department and has proven to me over and over she knows what she's doing. I asked her if this was a male or a female. The cup mind you still says female. She looks at "her" for a total of 1 second and confidently says "Male for sure" I quite literally jumped up and down and said that's what I'm saying. I had half a mind to return to Petco and tell them what petsmart says but seeing as how I've cussed out two managers I don't think they particularly want me in their store. I also have half a mind to breed him with one of my females and document the entire process and return to Petco with my documentary on their "female" who is somehow capable of fertilizing eggs. But I may not be that petty. A few days after I flipped out on their manager Sean and my boyfriend went to scout the female bettas, he said and I confirmed this today when I went in, their tanks were spotless. Petsmart standards. And we all know petcos fish tanks never look as good as petsmarts. So apparently they did indeed find the time to half care for their fish. My boyfriend thinks it's because they're worried I was going to contact corporate. I have indeed sent an email to the ceo of the company after today regarding almost all of their stores. Will it do anything? No. But at least I tried. Moral of the story is I will not be returning to this location and I will be informing everyone I know of this absolute ridiculousness and ensure they also do not shop here. read more

I tried to buy couple of fish for my aquarium today and I would never thought it could be so problematic. Young lady gave me attitude from the beginning, she went into deep explanation about fish microbiome and fish bacteria and how I should have my tank set up and filtering for few months before I purchase the fish. I don't mind small talk and explained her I have had fish for years as well other aquatic animals and I'm quite experienced so there's no worries as after a long while the conversation started to feel like an interrogation. It seemed like no answer was right even though I explained her I have few tanks and I know which fish can be together. I felt like conversation was dragged out without any point so I asked young lady if she just doesn't want to sell me the fish to which she blatantly replied -yes. I guess I was determined to get the fish since I drove a while but even the manager couldn't help after calling, she put me on a hold just to tell me she can't find young lady and can't hear her side of the story and she agreed that employee have the right to refuse me, which makes sense if you're a convicted abuser or something but to get judged like that just to get a fish seems like a stretch... My point is if you didn't graduate marine biology you might be considered unworthy customer at the California MD Petco. Do yourself a favor and order online. read more

Well you closed your bathrooms blamed it on COVID funny businesses in the same location theirs open and you change your hours to open at 1030 why? COVID? You've lost me and pet smart not even 1/2 mile away opens at 9am. I spend about $300 a month on food. Me and three other customers went to pet smart this morning. How long will you last? This place had turned into a dump. We've been taking our dog there for some years now, and this is by far the worst it has ever been. A lot of the lights in the building are burned out and it makes it look very dark and ran down in there. My wife took our dog to the grooming department and she waited for over 10 minutes for someone to show up but no one ever did, she then went and asked the cashier if anyone was working and he told her he didn't know, so my wife left after waiting 10 more minutes for anyone to show up. This place is looking and acting very ghetto. We will be looking for a different place to take out dog from now on. read more

The manager Alexis would not refund the entire amount even though I was showing her my online receipt/confirmation in my email. I went to location to sign up for beginner training classes for my 7 month old puppy. I have trained dogs for 40 year two of my dogs were service dogs that I trained. My puppy needs exposure to other dogs and people. She has been to private classes but needs exposure. After waiting 30 min to speak with the trainer, the trainer I talked to was rude and suggested that I needed private classes because my puppy is not food motivated and the trainer is overwhelmed because they had to fire another trainer. She was to give me the name of other trainers that have private lessons. I was so frustrated and upset I payed for my items and left with out the information. Will look somewhere else for training. I usually buy my pet food here. This location is clean and the staff is friendly. My dog loves to check out the treat section and sniff around the reptile area. I enjoy looking at the items they have in stock and often pick up a toy for the dog. The only problem is that I sometimes have problems finding items that fit my Doberman because of his awkward measurements. Its nice to be able to try items on without having to bring them home and then returning for a refund. It would be nice to find something that fits him for the winter months. PetCo is usually my first stop for my pet supplies. read more

I use the store to purchase food, toys, and grooming items for my lab. I take my dog Pancakes here to get groomed and I have never had a bad experience. The grooming staff is friendly and professional. I've even come to pick him up a few times and a staff member will have him out of the cage and on her lap. He's an extremely nervous dog so I really appreciate them putting in extra effort with him. read more

I would not buy the refrigerated dog food here!! I went in today to buy my dog Vital pet food and when I picked it up I noticed it was very warm. When I looked at the thermometer it read 74 degrees. Upon inspecting the food, I noticed most of the bag of food were dried out and some even moldy. My fiancé found a store employee (unfortunately he did not catch her name) to tell her about the problem and at first she just stared at him nodding her head. So he went on to explain in more detail of what he was talking about and says, "Oh I know what you're saying. I'll go turn down the temperature. There's nothing I can really do about it." Uh..ok, that doesn't fix the problem of the spoiled food sitting in the refrigerator. that to me say's they're more than willing to sell pet owners spoiled food to their pets and is pretty alarming. Sorry if you just lost half your inventory but that in my opinion is better than letting dogs get sick off of spoiled food. read more

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO THIS GROOMER!!! I took my dog here a few weeks ago and now my house is infested with fleas. She is eight years old and has never had a single flea in her life until now. I ended up having to shave her completely down and have had to bathe her repeatedly. I've even tried medication and she's still got them. I told my grandmother about it and she told me her dog came home with fleas from this petco too. I will never ever ever be back. If you're desperate and even considering going here do yourself a favor and bathe your dog yourself and shave them down because that's what you'd be left with anyways and at least you'll still have your money!!!!!! If I was able to give less stars, I would. Took my dog to get her shots done, had her shot record with me. They told me I needed a bunch of shots, and blood drawn, and were naming off things that I have never heard of speaking loud of the normal shots, but then trailing off... Because either 1. They have no clue about the extra shots they pump into your dog! Or 2. They want to say it low enough so that you don't understand it! They Kept insisting that I get my dog(who's a healthy and happy 2 year old german shepherd) about 200 dollars in shots. Stapled to my dogs shot record is the receipt to her veterinary clinic from Virginia, all shots she actually needed came to only about 80 bucks (including a 30-45 minute physical exam). I kept asking for my form back, that I filled all my personal information out on, and they refused to give it back to me! BEWARE of this sketchy shot and vet clinic on wheels (it comes every other Saturday)!!! Do your research on what your dog actually needs, vise what they're trying to scare you into buying. They're using blunt tactics such as misinformation about they're policies and procedures to pump money from your pockets. I went to THREE NOTCH VET HOSPITAL and their price was cheaper!!!! I heart this Petco, I prefer Petco to Petsmart, however, there are things that you can do here to help out with the cost of care for your little critters. The staff is nice, it's very clean, and they are helpful. Petco also has a foundation, called the Petco Foundation and they use funds donated to take care of homeless or injured pets. A few years back, at this particular location, a dog was hit by a car, and it appears possibly picked up and left behind after it was hit, and apparently was suffering for almost 3 days-behind either Petco or Best Buy, within that strip, construction workers noticed the animal but did not say anything, then finally someone spoke up and said something to the staff inside Petco. They immediately took the animal in and to the vet, and nursed it back to health, she ended up having multiple fractures and was bleeding and was LEFT THERE for THREE DAYS from what they surmised. They nursed it back to health and found it a new home. After I witnessed that, I had no problem saying yes when they ask if you want to donate to the Petco Foundation at checkout or buying a little something extra to go to homeless pets, as they have a collection for that there too. read more

We took an adult dog training course at this Petco. The dog trainer was very unprofessional and cussed in everyday conversations. I was willing to overlook this because she did help us with some things! However, on our last day of training our dog was the only one to show up for class. We waited 17 minutes past our scheduled time. Once we finally started training, our dog trainer wanted us to walk our dog around while she took her dog outside(very reasonable). 10 minutes later we were searching for our trainer thinking she was looking for us too. I finally found her and she was talking to 2 other people. We approached her to hopefully finally begin some training. She told us to walk away because people were holding cats. So we walked away and waited for her. She continued talking to these people for over 30 minutes and wouldn't allow us to approach her. So we ended up standing in an aisle waiting for her. Our dog was getting very anxious at this point (hence why we went for training). We waited in the aisle for the rest of the 43 minutes of training. She did not approach us or say a word to us during this entire time. We paid over $100 for these classes. Don't do it!!!!!!!! In her defense she did OK with the other classes we took. read more
