Finding Dr. Darnell was a blessing. She was so kind and compassionate with our sweet dog and with us too. Before she arrived at our house Dr.Darnell called and explain the process in great detail. upon arrival she took her time and allowed us as much time as we needed to say goodbye to our dog. Our sweet boy Cracker suddenly became very ill with Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA). We tried everything we could including multiple transfusions. Despite everything he seemed to be on the decline. I decided to look around for an in-home euthanasia service so that his passing could be as comfortable as possible and he could be with his family in case the worst was to become reality. When I spoke to Dr. Darnell on the phone I could immediately sense a great deal of compassion and empathy. She explained everything and answered all my questions. At this point we were hoping for a turn around and I could tell that really was too. Just talking to her on the phone that day gave me a sense of comfort. Cracker started to turn around and we began to see how old energetic self; he was wagging his tail and giving us kisses. We were so hopeful and optimistic, but a week later his heath rapidly declined and he died by my side with me rubbing his sweet head. :( Even though I didn't end up using her services, I will always remember the way my phone call with her made me feel. We recently had Dr. Darnell come to our house for an in-home euthanasia for our dog. I knew that the difficult decision was coming soon, so I spoke with her a few weeks beforehand to get an idea of what to expect. I had heard great things from others about her, but I was truly blown away at how caring and compassionate she was. I had never met her, but by the end of the conversation, I could tell that she genuinely cared about my pet and her comfort just as much as I did. It was clear that she provides this type of service as a service to her love of animals and dedication to make their end of life care as peaceful and comfortable as possible. Not only did she spend a generous amount of time preparing me, but I cannot say enough about how amazing and comforting she was to my 9 year old, who insisted on being present. Doctor Darnell was a wonderful choice for our family! She was very professional , great feedback , prompt and sweet as could be. The dog I thought would bite her did not. We have a two year old beagle and a 6 year old yellow lab (very large 100 lb ) who we simply can not handle taking to the vet as he barks and fights us all the way. Dr Darnell did a very thorough exam on both and they wanted to go with her when she left! We had three shots each dog on site along with weighing them on her scale , fecal exams , and a cool sample bag with a tick remover that I used tonight to remove a tick from our beagle perfectly intact and easy to use! We had an 11 year old pitty who got bone cancer and was at the point where walking was getting to painful, so we decided to have him put to sleep at home where he would be the most comfortable. I called Dr. Darnell and she was very helpful and made a quick appointment. You could tell through the whole process she was caring for the dog and not just there for payday. From the first email I sent Dr. Darnell, she was friendly yet professional. My kitties were overdue on their shots, and she was able to get the previous vet records and then made an appointment to come to my house for a well visit & shots. One of my boys can become anxious, but she was able to examine him in a gentle and comforting way. She explained everything to me prior to the exam and was very thorough in explaining the shots she was giving. She answered all my questions, and she was very patient and informative. If your animals are healthy (she does not do sick visits), I recommend her 100%! We shared stories of having to euthanize pets, and I can only imagine that she would be wonderful and compassionate. Excellent service. I had a really hard time getting one of my cats to the vet, she would not cooperate. Dr. Darnell was recommended by one of the local vets in Calvert County and her coming to our home worked perfectly. We avoided all the stress of getting her in her cat carrier which is nearly impossible for this cat. She got her shots and is all up to date! Our beloved Cat of 13 years was nearing her end and we couldn't bear the thought of her last day on Earth being spent dragged into a clinic. We called Dr Darnell who came to our house the following day and put Reeky to sleep gently and painlessly as possible. She used an anesthetic first and then after a few minutes she administered the lethal dose, after preparing it based on her size. Our cat went gently. As terrible as a day it was, Dr Darnell made it as easy as possible by being professional, thoughtful, and relatable as she is an animal lover. I highly highly recommend her whether it be for routine care of your pet or if unfortunately you have to make the same call we did. It's not easy but it helps when everything can happen in your own home where they are comfortable. She was very prompt with email and explained the process thoroughly as well as our financial options based on what we wanted to do with the remains. We have two beagles and it is hard to get them to the vet together. They don't do well in the waiting room. My Mom highly recommended Dr. Darnell to us when we moved to Calvert County one year ago. I am so glad that we found her! She takes time with your pets and builds rapport before she has to exam them or give them shots. High praise for Dr. Darnell and her mobile veterinary service. Yesterday I had to put my 17 year old retriever mix, Cooper, to sleep. I wanted to do it at home as opposed to driving him to my usual vet. I found Dr. Darnell online and emailed her. She gave me a couple of options for times for the next day. I took the 11am opening and she arrived right on time. We took Cooper out to the orchard where I planned on burying him and she did her job in a very compassionate and professional manner. I've had to put two other dogs to sleep over the years and it's never easy, but doing it at home helps considerably. I have another dog and she was able to be out there with us wandering around and eventually coming over to say goodbye to Cooper, which would have been difficult and a very different experience with an office visit. I highly recommend both mobile veterinary services when it comes time to euthanize a pet and Dr. Darnell in particular. read more

Dr. Darnell is amazing! I recently moved to Calvert County from Rockville and was panicking about finding appropriate veterinary care for my dog. I talked to several vet hospitals in the area but was not thrilled with any of them. On top of that, my dog is a large, older rescue dog who is generally anxious and is terrified of the vet (like to the point that he gets twilight sedation shots every time I have to bring him in). Then a work colleague suggested Dr. Darnell. I called her to talk for a few minutes about her practice and background (because I'm that dog mom) and was very happy with her responses and she comes to the house! I was able to schedule an appointment very quickly and Dr. Darnell was able to work around my crazy work schedule. Dr. Darnell was timely and brought all of the necessary equipment with her. She was AMAZING with my dog (who is generally extremely nervous around new people). Dr. Darnell explained to me what she was doing as she went and really listened to me about my concerns for my dog. My dog actually got through an appointment without being sedated and I am very satisfied! I have recommended everyone to Dr. Darnell ever since. I think she's especially good for people with anxious dogs or just for those who would rather have an appointment in their home. Again, cannot say enough good things about Dr. Darnell and her practice. She even follows up me after appointments to see how my dog is doing - she truly cares about your pets. Dr. Darnell also emails to remind me when it's time to get shots and vaccines (because life gets busy and sometimes I am late on these kind of things). Dr. Darnell was exceptional in providing an emotionally painful, but necessary euthanasia of my beloved 15 1/2 yr old American Bulldog / American Staffordshire Terrier mix. She was not my normal vet, but quickly returned a message left when I needed help. Since my Petey became deaf around age 12 he truly HATED going to the vet. As his body started to quickly fail him (due to what Dr. Darnell later identified as a splenic tumor) there was no way I could have his final moments be one of overdue stress at our normal vet's office. Plus he was 85+ pounds and I could not imagine trying to get him there as he had trouble breathing and walking. Dr. Darnell was excellent in communicating to me ahead of time what the procedure would entail and what to expect from her prior experiences. Upon arrival the day of, I asked further questions regarding his medical state which she patiently answered and provided additional information. Her bedside manner was one of compassion.
