Will never set foot in this Petco store again. After a recent trip to an emergency vet service my dog was diagnosed with gastroenteritis which requires a bland diet for a few days. I was sent home with a couple cans of the hills digestive diet canned dog and was told I could purchase some more. Apparently for this specific dog food you need a prescription which I did not know or provided with. They have the cans on the sales floor, and it wasn't until I got to the counter that I was informed about the prescription. The team member Chloe was extremely rude and was practically yelling at me about a prescription. I'm thinking that she could have handled things a little differently rather than screeching and repeating herself over and over again about a prescription that I was never aware that I needed. If you people at Petco require a prescription to sell certain dog foods to customers, then they should have proper signage in place, or have it stocked behind the counter where customers can't just pick them up. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about the Vetco in Blue Springs Missouri. I came to them in tears because my dog was very sick for over 2 months and the previous vet was bleeding my pockets dry with no answers and no compassion. Vetco techs and doctor was straight to the point, listened to me and didn't overly act like they cared until $$ came into play. My pup got better super fast and then had a small relapse, I called concerned and scared I was going to spend more $$. Worst grooming I have ever had. Shaved my cockapoo's face bare. Cockapoos do not have shaved faces. To make matters worse they shaved her so close that she had razor burn all along one side of her face and her right eye watered for days after. To top it off they barely touched her feet so now she looks like she has webbed feet. Stupid, stupid grooming and they kept her for over 5 hours! I will NEVER go there again. read more

Being used to the lay out of the store on 40 highway, I guess I'd say I'm as spoiled as my dogs are. I stopped in this store (located right next to the Gap Outlet), cause I desperately needed dog food. Entered, and immediately noticed the beige cubicles where the cash registers were. Walked by what I thought was the fish department, but I wasn't quite sure. The lay out prevented me from figuring out what department it is. Looked like fish, but the aquariums were against the wall, not exactly near the fish food and supplies. hmm.... I stopped to look at the 8 doggie coats, and the few toys. A couple of spring outfits, in the middle of the store, hanging haphazrdly. Couldn't find the dog food at first, no signs on the aisles. Well, I did find the dog treats, and the lady demonstrating Greenies, which my dogs love. "Oh, do you guys sell the Greenies for joints?" "yes." (long awkward pause). And....no coupons, no samples, I couldn't see if the Greenies were little, she didn't offer to open up the container. My mind thought, immediately, 3 stars for Yelp. Finally found the dog food, but the Eukanuba wasn't near the Purina, or the other dog food. It was near Petco brand dog food, in an aisle. Behind the aisle, in the next aisle over was bird food. No organization whatsoever, and this is brand new store. Oh,and the cash register, well, the store was busy, and there was one cahsier. She kept paging for other cashiers, and eventually the other cashier appeared. I saw 2 employees talking in the hampster department, while the line kept forming. One of them finally, ever so slowly, appeared at the register. That's when my review changed to a 1 star. I will not be back. read more

I've never had any problems with this store. The staff has always been friendly and helpful and tomorrow I'm gonna try out the grooming section for a nail trim and see how that goes. This pet store is not phenomenal by any means. However, it's still a million times better than Petsmart or Petland - especially for grooming. The prices are higher (but the monthly coupons help) and to be frank, the staff has a tendency of not being so helpful and ignoring you. I've stood around multiple times workers looked and just kept going. You gotta have a voice if you wanna be helped here! Ultimately, they take care of my dog though and show her much love! As long as they're gonna be good to her then they're by place of choice! read more

Tried to get my dog in 3 times to get his nails trimmed and they frefuse to do it, I'm no longer shopping here I'm no longer telling anyone I know with a pet to come here. I've had horrible service. I can only go on my days off which are few and far between and they are expecting me to take multiple days off just to get a simple thing done, you lost my business and any respect for a component that does not take care of pets. If there were negative stars, I would hit 10 of those. I went in for bird supplies for caged birds. The amount of time it took to find the store in this poorly laid out and thought out "shopping center" was absurd to begin with. Whoever thought this one up was on heavy drugs. I finally found the store, parked and went in, saw one employee as entered store who looked pissed off to just be there, had to go all the way to the back to find bird items. One 5 foot, if that, display area of dishes. No toys, perches or anything of that nature. Peeked around to other side of display. Sure enough, there were the bird toys and perches. Problem was? At least 5 of the carts of pallets of dog/cat food, 2 across and 3 or more deep, you could not even reach one toy, much less look at anything, there might have been as many as 7 or more pallets/wheeled carts, reminded me of what you saw at train depots long ago. But no way at all to move them to look, nor should I as a customer be expected to. 3 employees standing and talking, and one heavy guy at front fiddling with something, told him would have been nice to have been able to look at bird items, wanted to know what I was looking for, told him I would just order from Windy City Parrot online. Lousy store, called customer service, foreign handled calls by sound of that, and he couldn't even locate the damn store? Horrible store, and they darn sure aren't drowning in customers. read more

I have been here (Petco in BS) a couple of times for emergency grooming for my dog. I will never go back. The first time I discovered I had to leave town and cancel the regular groomer- no one else could get me in. I was able to get a same-day appointment, now I know why. I dropped my dog off and Jo groomed him. When I picked him up he was excited to see me as always, but hunkered into me and whined a little. He has never done that before, but I chalked it up to him being stressed out by the other dogs I could hear in the back barking and whining. I was a bit annoyed that she shaved him ALL THE WAY DOWN ALL OVER when I specifically asked for him to be left long. He was not even matted! When I got home I discovered a red spot on his neck, hidden by his collar. It got worse and he started itching it, I took him back to Petco & showed the manager and what was Petco's response? "That is just a hot spot he probably had before, but we will give you hot spot spray to treat it." I used the spray and it started to puss the next day. I ended up taking him to the vet for a cortisone shot & topical medication. The vet said it was a burn from the clippers getting too hot too close to the skin. The spray wouldnt help and him itching it had gotten it infected. I called petco back and they apologized and said they would "take care of" the groomer. I asked for the vet bill cost which was $100 but they would only refund the groom ($45) "without proof he didnt have the spot before the groom". For the record, I had no problems with grooms before Petco or with anyone else. I gave them a second chance a few months later when I again needed a last-minute groom. I called and got scheduled for the next day. I specifically asked who would groom my dog and requested that it NOT be Jo. They assured me that she wasnt even coming in that day so I thought all was well. I picked my dog up after the groom and was appalled to see that the person who brought him out to was Jo!!!!!! On top of that, he was shaved AGAIN without my knowledge or permission!!! When she him down on the counter, my dog again cuddled into me and buried his head, whining. He was trembling and had horrible gas- a sign of being extremely nervous/ scared. I was PISSED that she had groomed him, and because of him hiding/whining/shaking/gassing I checked him over carefully. He AGAIN had a red mark on his neck! You have GOT to be kidding me! I got a manager and complained, referring to my last visit. He looked it up and saw the complaint, free spray, and refund. He checked the files and Jo had no notes about it in her file. I showed him my dog & he apologized, offering a free groom next time I come. Seriously????? I'm not coming back!!!!! EVER!!!!! I asked for them to pay the vet bill if I have to take him back and he refused, but offered for the current groom I just picked him up from to be free. I accepted the free groom and told him if I had to go back to the vet I would return and they WOULD be paying for the this time becausew I had photos taken that were THAT MORNING showing that he did not have the burn before I dropped him off. I still had the topical cream from the last time so I applied it in hopes that it wouldnt get infected. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!!!!!!!!! read more

I have dogs that need grooming quite often. I've used this store a few times now and finally found a groomer that does a good job. Jo seems to be very good at what she does and my dog must think so too cause he gives her kisses when we go in. This store is TERRIBLE. Staff is very unfriendly and never offers a helping hand. I have visited this store two times, and will never return. This most recent visit I brought my 5 month old Australian shepherd in with me, since we were on our way to the dog park. This was a mistake. An employee had a german shepherd behind the check out counter. I have never had an issue with this breed. Her dog was acting very aggressive towards mine: lunging, barking, growling, etc. My poor guy was using all his might to get me away from the register and back to the car! The staff of this store is okay. They aren't very friendly but they weren't rude. If you are looking to buy pet supplies from this store, go ahead, they are a bit overpriced. But under NO circumstances should you EVER buy an animal from this store. While shopping at this store, I witnessed horrific neglect to the small animals. Rats and Mice with fur missing, little room in each cage for the animals to healthily live. But what REALLY got to me was there terrible, and I mean terrible, mistreatment of leopard geckos. I've researched tons about this amazing creatures, and the treatment of these beautiful lizards was horrific. Leopard geckos are supposed to have at least two hides inside their tank (three hides are ideal though). Along with this, leopard geckos should never be kept together because of their tendency to fight with each other. The lizards at petco were very skinny, many were crammed together and only had one hide. When complaining to the staff, they didn't seem to know what they were doing was wrong, and didn't pay much attention to my education. Overall, don't go to this location, or any petco that you see housing skinny, or sick looking animals. Don't give profit to companies who exploit beautiful animals. Overall, The staff isn't friendly, the store itself is super unorganized, and the treatment towards the pets is inexcusable. read more

I love this location and my dog loves Jo.. she's been grooming him for quite some time now and he loves it, it shown all over his face when I come to pick him up, very excited and anxious. Also, I found it really weird there is even a review saying she clipper burned a dog which is pretty impossible when she have a clipper vac that that's cools her blade. This is a high volume location meaning they groom lots of pets in the area daily so I commend those groomers in that salon for being able to continuously take care of our babies safely and effectively 7 days a week. We visit often for the grooming, and have done so for the last several years. We have always had Jo as our groomer, even followed her from a previous location. We have had very good luck with her and out pets have always seemed fond of her, even though both are a little stranger wary. We have had a couple of nicks but nothing more than I would expect when someone is trying to groom a dog. Let's be honest, we all know our dogs don't always just stand perfectly still and respond to all commands from a stranger. I very much doubt I could groom my own dog and never have a scrape. Jo even called to check on our dog that evening, just to make sure he was okay. Very satisfied and the best groomer we have had over the years. We will continue to take our pet to Jo. read more

Dropped my long haired chihuahua off at 9 yesterday, 5 hours later they were done. When I got him home, they had totally butchered him, spots on his sides where it was so close the skin was showing and the back of his legs had large strips with no hair. On top of that, they hadn't even bathed him, he smelled terrible. I called the store to speak to the store manager, they said they wouldn't be available for 2 days. They always take forever even with an appointment but now they do a horrible job on top of taking all day. Do NOT trust these people with your pet. read more

I used the grooming services at the Blue Springs location today for the first time. I just want to say how disappointed I am in the timeliness of the service and the environment the dogs have to face in that time. I made an appointment and when I left my dog I was told they had some dogs that needed to be done. I understand that things get busy, but when you are working with animals in a stressful environment timeliness should be your first priority. This is why people make appointments to begin with. My dog was there from 11:55 AM for his appointment at 12PM. He was not ready for pick up until 5:45 PM. When they called me they said that he was having diarrhea that was dripping on him from being nervous and they were wiping it off to keep him clean. If my dog had had his appointment at the time I made it for and he was taken care of promptly he would not have had this problem. When I asked what they would do if my money was wasted because he poops himself when he leaves the store the manage said that he could have eaten something a different day that caused this to happen and they would do nothing. He said that I could have chosen a groom and zoom where he would have gone right in, however, the person who helped me did not give me that option. Which also means that anyone who did get offered a zoom and groom and took it got to go before my dog who had an appointment. I will not bring my dogs here again. I am glad I did not leave my other dog who is shy and fearful, he would never have been the same. Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. This review must have been written when the store was VERY new. We have been going to this Petco since getting our new puppy on May 1st of 2011. There is no problem finding the items you need at this store. They also have one of the best dog trainers - Alex S. she is great with the dogs and a very good teacher. We had one issue with a training class scheduling conflict, but the manager took care of the issue and even gave everyone in the class free one on one puppy training classes. The employees at this store are always friendly and helpful. Prior to the opening of this store, the closest pet store was 8 miles away, so this has been such a time saver for our family. Plus our puppy likes to visit on a regular basis. Great store!! read more

I have 2 very large Airedales and every 8 weeks they visit Jo for grooming. They love to see Jo and they also love to come home but they know when they leave Jo they look really handsome, and they surely do. Jo has groomed these guys for years and at one time I lost track of Jo, so I could tell you horror stories about groomers. Myself and the boys are glad we found Jo again and do not intend to lose her again. I give this grooming salon 1 star for 3 reasons. First the groomers did exactly what I specifically asked them not to do, second they "forgot the bow," third it took 4 hours. Now forgetting the bow isn't a huge deal but; the groomer's the one who offered it to begin with and when you take your girl dog to be groomed you want a bow! Next, 4 hours to groom my dog wasn't a big deal except I drove over an hour and on the phone was quoted 2 hours, 4 hours is a lot of time to kill. Last, I wish they'd have let me see her before I paid because I'd have refused to pay, my dog has hair instead of regular fur, her breed is most known for their long sweeping hair. Several times in conversation I requested the groomers leave ALL of the hair around her face, cutting that hair around her face causes more issues than it solves, and I explained those reasons, in detail, the to groomer, still they went against my wishes. I guess they assume they know better even though I'm the one paying for the service. I chose Petco to begin with because I tried a local groomer who I had the same issue with, I guess it's time to learn to groom my dogs hair myself, yuck! :( read more
