While I've long been familiar with McNamara Florist, I was wheeling around the Glendale area today…read moreand decided to give this location a visit given I knew they'd be all decked out for the holidays. McNamara Florist was started in Indy in 1954 and has eight retail locations in Central Indiana along with a greenhouse/nursery in the Fort Wayne area. Not so long ago, McNamara relocated their main headquarters back to Indy from Fishers. It's now located on the near-eastside of Indy in an area that is definitely getting a sense of renewal. While McNamara is local, it definitely has a national reputation. They offer a variety of flowers, plants, home decor, and delivery options. They were definitely decked out for the holidays with a festive array of decorations, plants, etc. This location is actually on East 62nd Street and it's toward the back of Glendale town Center in the same area as the Huntington Learning Center and Jet's Pizza. Parking is available with accessible options and appropriate curb cuts. I happened to be parked at Target and visited several businesses in this strip center with no difficulty as a wheelchair user. When I arrived, I was the only customer. That changed pretty quickly. Employees were responsive and friendly - a bit hovering but not overwhelming. If I have one beef here, and it's pretty common during the holidays, it's that accessibility definitely was a bit lacking in-store. While I'd imagine they don't get a ton of wheelchair users, I'd think anyone with mobility issues might struggle in here. They have some high-end glass Christmas trees that I was terrified I was going to tip over (I didn't). There were ultimately places I wanted to get to that I simply couldn't. However, I'd say I could get to about 75% of the story without too much difficulty. The store was definitely warm and inviting with a festive spirit and light holiday music in the background. Pricing was clearly marked on nearly every item and while this is what I'd consider to be a more premium florist, it's definitely got stuff in a variety of price ranges. I like that they offer plant and flower subscriptions and McNamara is for sure an Indiana success story when it comes to plants and flowers. I sometimes forget it's here, however, this visit was a solid reminder to consider McNamara the next time I need flowers.

I won't make that mistake again. The business was a two-story house turned into a florists and home decor shop. The front door is kept locked, so be sure you go around to the north side of the building to enter. The main parts of the building within your sight lines is filled with home decor. At the holidays, there was Christmas stuff from top to bottom! Even upstairs they have a room with more items. Behind the stairs is the cooler area for fresh flowers and to the left of the counter (seen as you enter) is more space for the employees to put together arrangements. I decided to pass on fresh flowers and instead found a seasonal spray hanging on the wall with lots of festive ribbon and greenery. It looks nice on my front door. Very pleasant people to work with and a nice variety of items (and colors) to help you decorate. Review #1912

I know it hasn't been that long since I've been in to get some flowers, but when I went recently, I was shocked and saddened to see that most of the business space has been sold out / shared with a large hair salon in the same building. It's amazing how many hair salons there are in Greenwood and also on Madison Street alone. This floral shop used to have so many things going for it including various gifts and a huge selection of flowers in a massive walk in cooler. Their floral case has been reduced to one tiny cooler. There's hardly any extra gifts as well. It's a massive consolidation or scale down. It's quite sad to see them being diminished to that. I used to be able to go in there and pick up a quick bouquet with whatever flowers I wanted. When I went in there recently, they hardly had any flowers in their case. I tried to scrounge together something. If I want to get flowers from them now, I have to order it at least a week in advance. It just isn't convenient anymore. I really wish them well and I really hope they don't disappear altogether because that would be very tragic. What I also found odd was when I went in there, there was absolutely no activity in the salon.

After searching online for a reputable florist in Indianapolis, I saw positive reviews for IndyFlowers! I'm a Yelp girly and noticed they didn't have any Yelp reviews. So I definitely wanted to share my great experience with others! I ordered online from their website, which was easy to use, and they delivered same-day, on time, and earlier than expected! I was looking for some perennial flowers to plant at the front of the house that would come back every year. Most home box stores only have a limited selection of perennials and usually don't have any at all. At this place I was overwhelmed by how much they had in stock to choose from. It's all great quality plants and flowers and the best part is it's about half the price you'd spend at the home box store. The prices were so good I filled up on several different bright colored flowers from dianthus to begonias to impatiens. I'm definitely coming back next year.

This week, I was on a mission to find creeping phlox for a new garden bed in my yard. (My mother had phlox in the yard when I was growing up, so it brings back memories.) I called and they immediately said yes, they had some. The parking lot was packed when I arrived mid week. People had carts filled with annuals. A clerk et me in the parking lot and knew exactly where to send me for the phlox. The greenhouses are immense and pristine. The plants are beautiful and healthy. They had the phlox that I was looking for in three different colors. I picked the lavender. There were lots of beautiful hanging baskets and yard decor that was tempting, but I resisted. Check out was easy in the main building. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the plants. Three days later, the phlox is thriving in my yard.

I saw a news segment about their Christmas displays and wanted to stop in. My parents and I went (sans children) and had a fabulous time. We will be returning with the grandkids. Besides the main shop filled with holiday decor, they also offer three other barns to walk into and look around. For the kids, they can get a scavenger hunt at check-in to keep them occupied while the adults look at the cute decor. Then, the last barn has Santa in it. There is also cookie decorating, sprig decorating, and a campfire for making s'mores with a cup of hot chocolate. For $6 all of this is included. They will even mail your picture with Santa to your house to make it look like Santa sent it to your kids from the North Pole. It'll cost $5 without the cookie decorating. And it's free without Santa or the cookie! We had a good time just walking around looking at the decorations and making a s'more with our hot chocolate...all free. I believe Santa is there on the two Saturdays before Christmas. Not sure of the hours for Santa, but the shop is open on Saturdays from 9a-4p.
