I noticed this park on my recent visit to Pet World. This park is right across the parking lot from Pet World. Pet World always encourages customers to bring their animals to the store. This must be a natural extension of that policy. It is a gated space because it is located by a busy thoroughfare. It is also located heavily trafficked strip mall. They built a large gazebo for shade and training purposes, apparently. There are also some trees in the park for dogs to enjoy. This park looked well maintained and it also looked well used. I think it's a great addition to Pet Worlds mission and vision. Pet World is always thinking of ways to improve the life of pets and their owners. They are big into conservation and recycling. This dog park fits right in to their outreach. Personally I was impressed with all the work they put into this park. The fencing alone was a very big job. They also got no government funding for this park which is even more impressive. Great park and your dog will enjoy the amenities. read more

I'm not a fish expert at all but this place seems leaps and bounds better than most if not all other places in the area. The prices are GREAT, even better than big box stores, which is a massive plus. A wide variety of freshwater fish, plants, and supplies, at very competitive prices. All employees have been nothing but great every time I've been. Very helpful, and tanks seem very clean. The only drawback is that there is a tank of very swollen female bettas with nipped fins, which may be a hospital sorority tank or something. Definitely worth a visit! read more

We did the doggie wash today and was so happy with how well they did with our dog. Very relaxed and comfortable with Gunner. He is a pretty easy going pup anyways but definitely recommend. $20 for your first wash, $40 after that. We did his nail trim as well and she was absolutely amazing making sure Gunner was comfortable and happy the entire time. He starts getting stressed or didn't like something she moved on to a different technique. 10/10 recommend for a doggie wash. Definitely will be back read more

Poor customer service. The last few times I have come in to buy feeder fish for my turtle, I get passed over buy the staff constantly. Today I spent nearly 30 minutes in the store and was not helped. I guess Petsmart is getting my business now. read more

I'm surprised no one's written a review of this place! I absolutely love this pet store. They have an incredible variety of fish and reptiles. They do much of their reptile breeding in-store, so you don't have to worry about the shipping conditions of reptiles (which is usually horrible and dangerous for said animals). They have many, many color morphs of various reptiles, and the reptile staff is phenomenal and knowledgeable. Their small animal sections are meticulously cleaned and there are many staff members available to show you the animals. I only heard some misinformation here and there, but honestly it's to be expected in the pet industry-- DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH, always! I was very pleasantly surprised by the temperment of the birds there. I was able to coax several birds to step up onto my hand with minimal effort, and the parakeets didn't freak out when you walked up to them. The Scarlet Macaw there is full of interesting personality....but be careful, I did see him try to take a chunk out of a kid who got too close (kid's fault, obviously). For children, this store has all sorts of activities and interesting things for kids, including feeding the giant tortoises at 4pm and "Animals in the Dark!" which I haven't attended, but looks cute. I took a few looks at their dog and cat food selections, and they do carry a nice variety of high quality foods. They also carry Merrick's cat food at a cheaper price than my local pet store, which I was happy to see. All in all, for a pet store, Pet World hits it out of the park. I will definitely be going back...especially to googoogaggle over the ferrets that come in. :) read more

I would definitely recommend this pet store to any friends. I purchased my pet tarantula here, and get crickets here quite often. I always stop to browse and pet the ferrets as well. This pet store is always really clean and staffed with enthusiastic and helpful employees. There is one woman in particular (I feel bad for not remembering her name right now!!) that is especially passionate about spiders and I've had some great conversations and some great tips having to do with tarantulas from her. I love the atmosphere of this store. It's always full of excited children and lively animals, it's high energy without being crowded or stressful. The store frequently does birthday parties or educational workshops with children and really brings the community together. I'm lucky to live so close to it! read more

Yes, they knew what they were. No, they had not until the next week in stock. Love this store! Staff is absolutely AMAZING! They truly know their stuff! Pets are always welcome and staff greets you and is very helpful. You can tell they care for their animals greatly as cages are always clean, animals are always fed, and even the fish tanks are spotless. The store itself is always clean and well stocked also. I would go here more often if they carried my dog's food (Blue Buffalo). Usually, I don't like pet stores selling live animals, but the animals here seem clean, well cared for, and far better socialized than those in other pet stores. I have only once seen a sick animal at the store (one of their giant tortoises) and it was being obviously quarantined and cared for. They have a wide variety of both reptiles and birds, along with the "usual" small pets seen in chain stores. The staff is very helpful and ready to answer questions. They are involved in the Lawrence community (especially putting on kids' programs) and listen to their customers. I once had to return a dog backpack which had broken in its first hour of use, and it was completely no hassle to get it credited back to my card (no store credit or exchange required). If you can't find an item, they are usually pretty happy to order it in for you. We have ordered a crate mat for my parents' dog, and when I was looking for an inflatable e-collar for my dog, though they didn't have it that night, my next visit a few weeks later found an entire new display of inflatable and soft e-collars. Another plus is they have a wide selection of fish aquariums and stands in-store, uncommon at the large chains. read more

I used to live in Lawrence, and visited Pet World at least weekly. I moved to another state several years ago, and I miss the store! There is a distinct lack of pet stores in my area that stock bird supplies. I am making a trip to Kansas City in about three weeks, and will be purchasing an animal while there. Amazing pet store. Do not go to Petsmart or Petco to buy animals. I have done extensive research on this and to start go to YouTube and type in reptiles by Mac who supplies a lot of Petco and Petsmarts. It's horrifying for collars and toys sure go where ever but the experience at pet world will always be better also if you have a problem with an employee so be it not every one is perfect but think about the animals they are perfect and that's what matters some people have good and bad days but tbh there staff is amazing as of 2022 they smile and helpful and if you ask them a question they will be honest and say I am not sure let me go ask so and so he or she has them at there home. This is not a commercialized franchised pet chain like most pet stores. This pet store is like going to a petting zoo where you can purchase the pets and all the supplies you need for them. UPDATE: The two swordtails are perfectly healthy now. The SeaChem Paraguard worked perfectly and the opaque discoloration is COMPLETELY gone. They have been quarantined for 6 weeks now and I will be transferring them to my 46 gallon tank soon. read more

I've been a patron of Pet World for years before I was contributing to Yelp.com, and I love this place. It is a massive store with a huge selection of fish, pets, reptiles, and a whole lot more. I have personally built three beautiful aquariums from scratch with virtually every piece coming from Pet World. Their senior staff is beyond knowledgable and more than friendly. They really know their stuff, and take the time to make sure you learn what you need to know to raise a healthy happy pet. Once a year, they have their "Thank You Days Sale" where all pets are half off, and supplies are twenty-five percent off. They top this sale weekend off with giveaways every twenty minutes, free stuff for the kids, and free raffle entries. This is not a chain store, and this is where you want to go, in Lawrence. I also always get a kick out of the stores pet tortoises. read more

This is the greatest pet store I have ever been to. I make it a point to try and visit every weekend. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable. I learn something new every time I go there. They always great you with a smile and are willing to help. This pet store allows people to hold the animals and interact with them- even the creepy crawlies! I find this is incredibly important because it not only socializes the animals but it also gives you a chance to bond with an animal before you decide to buy it. They are not very large but they offer a variety of healthy choices of dog and cat food (can be a bit on the pricey side but it's worth it to keep this business afloat). It's a great place to take the kids to help teach them about pets and what all goes into caring for them. I would definitely recommend this place to everyone. read more

We drove a hour one way to this pet store "Pet World" 3 times having wonderful experience with the employees as they are knowledgeable and friendly. However today I dealt with the manager Andi. We were told we could exchange a product, and since driving one hour each way that I would receive 2 bags of CareFree hamster bedding. Once we found out what was wrong with the product to be exchanged then be told we could not have the 2 bags of CareFree hamster bedding. During the discussion and prior to Andi refusing the 2 products for free Andi told me I was "RUDE" in my face! I then asked to speak to the owner and she said she been there for 12 years in a SNOTTY ATTITUDE and that she is the boss and made it very clear. That the owners are in Chicago! I was actually very polite until Andi told me I was "RUDE" in my face! The 3 times we have been here, we will never return. I will for sure continue our shopping and the drive to Olathe Pet Shop!
