This business has been around for over 50 years! They're always so great and helpful! We purchased our dog from here roughly three years ago and my best friend also purchased her dog from here years prior! Unfortunately, due to our "lovely" state of California they are no longer able to sell puppies or kittens. We went in a few days ago looking to purchase a specific type of puppy and they informed us that they were no longer allowed to. Although this was a disappointment, it is no fault of their own and they still tried to help us to the best of their ability and even told us to reach out every so often so they could let us know if they knew of any place that may have what we're looking for. They were fully stocked as well!! Will be going back soon to get some supplies! read more

We bought our dog from what we thought was a rescue center. It's not. Our dog came home and we were in love. We got him June 2020 height of the pandemic. Though I continued the diet they told me a few days later he got sick. Fact is, that my dog was sick when they gave him to me. I literally thought he was going to die on me, I had to take him to the emergency vet because it was late at night. The moment he came home, he became part of our family. Almost 1000$ later of IV, medication and testing he was going to be okay. Don't support this place. Go to the humane society or priceless pets. Those are true rescue centers. We still love our boy, but I will never support a place that's shady to sell sick dogs to people who just want to complete their family. read more

We tried dog sitting for a quick weekend trip. To our dismay our dog looked and acted shell shocked when my wife picked him up. He wasn't excited at all. When they got home she realized his paws and elbows were caked with dried feces. We spent over 30 minutes trying to get it off and there's still remnants remaining. It immediately makes us think he was neglected and are worried other facets of his care were substandard as well. Just be careful with these guys. If I could give 0 stars I would. THESE PEOPLE DONT TAKE CARE OF THE ANIMALS AT ALL. The cats and kittens all have eye ulcers or upper respiratory infections and are still out with the other somewhat healthy ones when they should be quarantined. I'm a vet tech so I know how animals should get care and not to mention the terrible living conditions. There's a 2 foot rabbit in a 3 foot cage. Many of their dogs are too big for their cages. My Guinea pig who I made the mistake of getting from this place has had constant skin issues costing hundreds at the vet and I solely blame this place. Whoever owns this place bit off waaayyyyy more than they can chew and I'm happy to say you're getting reported for neglect. read more

My mom got me the best gift of my life from this pet store and I am forever grateful! He is a pug named Shorty, whom is now 13.5 years old. The owner of the store said she thought his mother delivered all of the puppies, but after leaving the room for a few minutes or so, as the story goes, she came back into the room and there he was on the floor. She had to give mouth to mouth to revive him, because he was suffocating. Thank god that she did. She said she would walk around holding him all day as she worked, and that she and her husband were contemplating keeping him, because they were becoming attached to him. Thank god for me that didn't happen. Otherwise, I would have never received the greatest gift of my life and my best friend Shorty. They are really attentive to their animals.Very clean business. They wouldn't even allow u to put your pet on the floor that's how much they take their animals welfare serious. They take parvovirus seriously and take minimal risk when allowing other pets in their store. Idk what the lady was talking about with cats and cysts in their eyes I've been living down the street from the shop and have NEVER seen anything close to what she described on any of their animals. I've gotten 2 dogs from them and they are always happy and healthy. They know their stuff too always very knowledgeable with any questions I have . And they do the shots for cats and dogs read more

If I could give this business a zero star review I would. PLEASE DO NOT ADOPT A GUINEA PIG FROM THIS PLACE!!!! The first main issue is they breed their guinea pigs here and the second main issue is that they DO NOT HAVE THE PROPER CARE AND NUTRITION!!! The guinea pigs have no hay readily accessible to them. also, they do not get their daily amount of fresh vegetables. To make matters worse all they have is a huge bowl full of pellets. I saw a really cute guinea pig with a severe head tilt and this is extremely dangerous for guinea pigs! I saw other guinea pigs with hair loss. They had more guinea pigs in the back just inside bins where they breed them again, with no hay, no veggies just a bowl full of pellets. It is very depressing to see these poor creatures in such terrible conditions! As prey animals they are very good a disguising when they are ill so I can only imagine in what terrible state those guinea pigs must be simply because this business chooses to not do their research and give these animals the care that they need so they can have a successful future and find a loving home! LOVE this shop. Owner and Kelly are very sweet and really care about the puppies and animals they have. I know they get a lot of smack for keeping the puppies in cages but they do get out and honestly if you go one day and come back the next they are likely gone by then. Cages are always empty by how quickly puppies are adopted/bought. Yes they are technically bought but come from shelters and regardless need homes. They aren't made to order like vehicles. They need loving homes. Puppies don't get neutered and honestly I think it's because they aren't even there for even 24 hours usually. Very rare. Instead you place a deposit and get it back when you prove you have done all the neutered/sprayed your puppy. $75 I believe. I like coming back for the shots too which are usually $15. I purchased a puppy four weeks ago from this place and started having issues with him within two days. My puppy came with tapeworm and roundworm, as well as very itchy. I should have known better when the lady at Pet Stop was lying to me about California law regarding puppy purchases and actually telling me that I SHOULDN'T take him to see a vet because he might get sick there. Who recommends that?? Anyway, I was not going to subject my puppy back to those people, so I chose not to take mine back to Pet Stop either. His tapeworm and roundworm seem to be gone (thank goodness!), but he still has itching that won't go away (and it's not fleas). Other reviewers are right. This place is worn-down, cramped, and smelly. As much as I adore my puppy, I wish I had not supported this business by purchasing him here. After reading all the embellished negative reviews I felt compelled to put my few cents in. That said, I am thankful to this place because if it wasn't for them I wouldn't have my precious Maltese today. My little girl is a very special dog with many special needs as she was severely abused by her owners before being rescued by the owner of this place. In fact my dog was so emotionally not well that she sat in the back of this business for 3 months before I picked her up, the owner was about to take her to her home even, as no one wanted her. The fact that this place cared for her for 3 months without turning much of a profit, shows compassion for these animals, specially when it comes to those with special needs. I only paid $250 for my dog and I truly don't think that what I paid even began to cover 3 months of board and grooming, feedings & shots. That shows that these people truly are for the animals. With regards to the establishment, yes the place is not perfect, it is small with animals in crates however, is it NOT the way some of the hateful reviews are painting it out to be. I have been frequenting this place for over a year and I have yet to smell the putrid smells all the other Yelpers are talking about. In fact every time I am there the owner is always cleaning something. The place is certainly not perfect however it stands for a good cause and it is solely ran by women. I went in to this Pet store to find puppies in cages. The store was not open yet as their hours are 11:00-6:00. I went back when they did open. Seems that these puppies are in cages all that time alone every night and all throughout the day. I asked more about these puppies as there were some in the store and some in a side room not out with the public. Gerri who is the owner said that she is a rescue as well as a pet store since a new law went into effect Jan 2019 stopping pet stores from buying from breeders. Her rescue is called Little Lizzie's Friends Rescue (which a piece of paper from the IRS hangs on the wall with her 501C3). She has no social media or website promoting her rescue and I could not locate them on the IRS website. Therefore she relies solely on walk ins to find homes for these animals. She also does not chip them, which means she does not keep track of them once they are sold. She said that she does have an adoption application that people fill out, but if these animals are taken to the shelter she apparently doesn't care. These puppies are kept in small kennels and she said they do not let them walk on the floor until they have all of their shots. They do not have soft beds or any toys in their kennels and the pups seemed to be going stir crazy. She gives them a small cutting board and one towel to lay on. There are also kittens in there who are off in a corner. She said that she gets all of her dogs and cats from either Devore, Riverside, or SB city shelters and also gets surrendered dogs. To me these dogs get substandard care as they are not exercised and are confined in small cages. She also said she boards dogs. Where do they exercise is my question and big concern. She charges all different prices for the dogs and one dog she said she got at 3 weeks old that was dropped off to her. I asked her about the different prices for dogs and she said, "Well we are also a pet store". Normally rescues (good rescues) are caring and offer their dogs who they love above standard care. I called the Rancho Animal Care and Adoption Center and they said that they check on them quarterly and they offer minimal standard of care, which is frustrating because the state doesn't have any law on higher standards since dogs and cats are still considered property. Why wouldn't she want soft beds and exercise for these animals? It's all about the money that's why. That is the only logical explanation. These pups and kittens looks so sad. She also said that she doesn't take rescue pups to her house and if she does only rarely since her other half doesn't like it...although she lives on half an acre in Fontana. Also she has a peacock that is 4 years old that she has kept at her store his whole life. He has seen the outside a couple times. That is cruelty. Where is her heart and where is the question she should be asking herself about what is in the best interest of these animals. I will be sharing this information to as many people as possible. The store is decent as far as pet supplies, but she should not be allowed to have animals in her care. read more

We puchased a puppy here about 8 months ago. We lucked out to have gotten THE best dog on the planet! She is happy and healthy and the light of our lives! We live in Orange County and when we purchased our puppy, the owner and (I believe) her daughter encouraged us to come back and tell them how our pup was. We did that today. Thank goodness that the young lady that was working today wasnt working there 8 months ago because I would have walked out and missed out on having that puppy mentioned above! The girl today was sullen, she snapped at my 13 year old daughter, she had no real answers for any of our questions, couldnt provide a business card or email address. We asked about puppy shampoo that was given to us when we purchased our puppy-she had no idea about it, said they didnt carry it and never had. I found it on the shelf. We were asked by the owner to send a photo of our pup, the girl today said that I could not email it and had to bring it in. She refused to let my 8 year old look at a puppy up close. Her exact words were "if you're not a serious buyer, I'm not getting it out" it wouldnt matter if I was a serious buyer when I walked in, I wouldnt have been at that point. On to the cleanliness of the store. I was horribly disappointed at the smell. The pups were cramped too many to a cage, playing and rolling in each others feces. It was not normal dog poop smell, it was terrible. The cats were listless and didnt even respond to my girls trying to play with them. I have recommended people to you! I have spoken highly of your business! I am disappointed that I did because if they were to have witnessed what I did today, I would have proved myself a liar. Before I even got to the door the employee was apologizing for any smell. They were just opening. It didn't smell bad at all. Geri I think her name is, was very kind and polite and answered any questions that I had. The treatment that I received their made me want to only adopt from them. I had gone to another shelter before that and they were so rude that I left and came to "pet shop". She explain to me why they asked if you've been to other shelters due to parvo. Not sure if I will be adopting a puppy just yet because my daughter is only 1 but I definitely would adopt from here. Long story short I highly recommend them. read more

This is my first negative review. My horrifying experience here has compelled me to write this. This place is NO place for any living creature whatsoever. I took my kid here on a whim to see cute animals. Upon entering, you are hit with a disgusting odor of a fishy rotting smell. My kid even commented "what's that smell mommy?" I ignored my better judgement and walked in anyway. The very right of entering are kittens about 8-10 in ONE CAGE. Right next to that are three stacks of cages with about 4-5 bunnies per cage. Yes they look cute, but on closer inspection I noticed something odd about the top cage. I've owned rabbits before and although it was actually cool in temp inside (they're very heat sensitive) one looked distressed. I looked over the other three and one was clearly dead!!! I was appalled. I walked to the back (where the employee was with the caged puppies) to tell the employee. Her first response was a look of puzzlement, then said oh I wasn't here last night or this morning, so I have no idea. How is that relevant to what I just told her?? ( I was immediately suspicious) She walked to the front to inspect and saw that the rabbit was in fact dead. What I saw next, absolutely blew my mind. She took a plastic grocery bag placed the rabbit in there, while on the phone (hopefully speaking with a supervisor). All the while I had to keep my kid distracted, so my kid wouldn't notice what was happening. Walking to the back with the mice, snakes, fish...filthy filthy conditions. I felt disgusted being there. The employee walked to the back and deposited the dead rabbit somewhere. Aren't there laws and health guidelines for this stuff????!!!! As my kid and I exited the store, so did the employee on the phone. It's questionable in the amount of time it took me to exit the little store that the employee wash her hands. My overall impression of witnessing that was it seemed all to commonplace for r. heIf I worked at a pet store and an animal died, I might show some kind of compassion for the animal. This place should not have any right to sell animals as they are obviously mistreated and filthy, to the point when they die (which is a whole issue in itself) the death goes unnoticed. Bottome Line: DO NOT SUPPORT THIS STORE. DO NOT BUY ANIMALS FROM HERE. Why is this place even open for business??? read more

We just got our Husky here! I walked in to see if they had any Maltese for my dad and we fell in love with our little husky guy. He has been home 3 days now, and is doing well. I have never purchased from a Pet store before, only directly from breeders (we currently have 2 sisters that are Yorkie-Poos from a reputable breeder) so this was a bit different. They didn't have info on where the dog came from nor did they know the exact birthdate which I found a little sketch. They said it's because they are from private breeders and they don't always keep track. I think that's lame as we bred Morkies 10 years ago and kept exact records. That generally makes me question the breeder. But, so far so good. He's a sweet dog and they really have the best prices I've ever seen. No dogs seemed sick in the kennels. Purchased a maltipoo pup here who seems to be a healthy happy pup. Took him in for a bath, and follow up shots. They revamped the store and it looks a thousand times better than before. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful, particularly the young ladies that care for the animals. Its a small facility so some of the pets do appear to be a little cramped at times. I dont believe They deal with breeders and many of the dog's are mixed breed in most cases. I paid nearly $800 for the maltipoo. Not sure if that's expensive or market rate. You know how you go into a store expecting to JUST window shop and leave but then end up buying everything you see? That's exactly what happened when I walked into The Pet Stop on 3/18/15, except I left as a new puppy parent! To set the record straight: When you walk in, there is the usual pet shop smell due to the multitude of animals they carry there, it is a normal smell! The store seems cramped up with a lot of animals because it is a small store, they are NOT a corporation business that has millions of dollars to expand their space. Their shop is open with the purpose of giving animals a temporary home in hopes that someone will give them permanent ones. Just ask the employees! Being a pet shop owner doesn't bring in the big bucks, they do it because they LOVE ANIMALS. Two of my best friends are a zoologist and a soon to be veterinarian. They are fully aware that the animal industry is not the most profitable industry and requires a lot of hard work, small pay, and a true love for all things animal. ANYWAYS. The boyfriend just wanted to show me around the store because we were talking about POSSIBLY getting a new puppy in the near future. Gerry, the shop owner since she was 19 years old, was very helpful when we had a lot of questions in regard to the kind of shop she runs, where she gets the puppies from, what vet do they work with, etc. We ended up falling in love with a black and white 3 month old Australian Shepard/Cocker Spaniel mix for $200, which was reduced from a much higher price. He came with all but 3 shots done, which were fairly inexpensive to pay for. Kelly, the younger girl in the store, was great with our new pup when checking out. She was very friendly, answered the millions of questions we had about being new puppy parents, and told us to call the store whenever we had any questions about anything! I had no problem giving them all of my money for puppy supplies because I love what they do and represent and we need to keep special local businesses like the Pet Stop alive. Since taking Ollie home on 3/18, he has been the best puppy ever. Other than the occasional itchiness for his dry skin, he's healthy, eating his food, peeing/pooping regularly without complications, and so so playful. I am so glad we were able to give him a real home and open up a spot for more rescue dogs and new puppies at the Pet Stop. THANK YOU GERRY AND KELLY!!! You have our full support 110%!!! read more

Great experience! We have come by a couple of times before to visit the animals because the staff are always so nice and the animals always have clean bedding and look healthy. We weren't planning on getting a puppy, but had been loosely discussing adopting a younger dog eventually.... well.... we stopped by with the kids to visit the animals last weekend and 'eventually' turned into 'this week'! We fell in love with and adopted the sweetest, loving and most happy-go-lucky girl! I love knowing all the puppies there are rescues now. She's a shepherd/pit/dachshund mix which we're excited about because we absolutely love German Shepherds and their loyalty to their families. We have a very loyal old man shepherd at home who is now a big bro :) I wish I was better at remembering names, but the very nice woman who nursed our girl, Jelly, and her litter mates back to health after they were left by their owners (because they were too ugly to sell.. how is that even possible?!) and then had gotten very sick was very passionate and caring while telling us all about our pup. I can tell how much love went into caring for her when she was sick by LLF Rescue because of how sweet and well adjusted she is! (And her brother was a sweetie who was there, too!). The wonderful ladies who worked there were very thorough in answering all of my questions (I had a lot lol) and they made the process of adopting her seamless. Also, their prices for pet supplies are very affordable so we were able to also splurge on some fun toys for her while we were there. This little pup has been a blessing to our family (including our old buddy of course) already and it's only been a couple days.
