This place is a no for me. As soon as you walk in you're hit with an awful stench...I had to cover my nose the whole time I was there. On top of that the animals are kept in small compact cages with multiple animals in one. The fish have nothing in there tanks and most have too many per tank. And the poor puppies whom are clearly from puppy mills are confined to small cages with nothing but metal underneath them (it's not even solid...). I just feel bad for them honestly...and puppy mills are a violation in Houston! read more

Pet place is a great store. I buy feeders from here and other supplies for my reptiles. The workers are great here we've seen the owners a few times and the few times we've seen them they have been really nice to us. They sell all sorts of animals here for a fair price. You can also donate things that you don't want anymore (animal cages is all that I know of) and they take care of it for you. I've been reading the pass reviews from years ago and I can tell you now Friday, November 18, 2022. These employees here are nice and will greet you at the door. They will ask you if you need help with anything. They are over all a good business. As for the puppies, nothing is overprice with the puppies. They get them from breeders and if you're looking for a mix or purebred puppy, of course you're going to pay a good amount of money to buy a puppy from them. They come with the papers and they also have a financing plan for when you get the puppy. If you were to go to pet land or another puppy place it's probably a little over priced than this place. And they keep them in the same kennels as the other places would. Don't depend on bad reviews to dictate your opinion on a business. Check it out yourself and see what you think. read more

The lady at the counter was impatient and rude. She was obviously annoyed because I wanted to pick out fish from the 10 ror a dollar feed fish that had the colors I wanted. I put these fish in an outdoor pond. The last batich I bought all died and I don't want to buy expensive fish until The pond is set up correctly. read more

This place makes me sad. All the animals were confined in lonely little spaces, the birds seemed so bedraggled and morose. Maybe even sick. The puppies were really overpriced. The place was a far cry from hygienic. You walk in and get hit with the smell of urine. I didn't like that you couldn't interact with the animals; if you took proper precautions and used hand sanitizer I'm sure the animals and customers would benefit. Does anybody else find it disturbing that all of the puppies are caged up, whining, without food or water?! These small puppies were taken away from their mothers at a very young age. I stopped by their new location yesterday and found that everything was overpriced and the puppies were about $350-600, and these puppies are kennel pups. I feel so bad for them, I stood there staring at the Hound puppies cry for food and water. Not even that disturbed me, but the fact that their environment was small, and filthy. Plus, on top of that these puppies never are taken out of their small kennels until someone purchases them. The business is family owned, and the people who work in their seem to have such an attitude (I'm not sure why). I've been visiting (not buying) this location for about 15 years now and still notice the same thing. The owners don't seem to care about the welfare of the puppies, it just seems like they are money-hungry. They have fishes, birds, small rodents, puppies, spiders, and all of the supplies. All of the supplies is very pricey. I don't like this place, and I wish it was inspected because these people are really robbing hard-working people and the treatment of the animals are horrifying. You walk in and there is a terrible stench. Then the dogs you see are sitting on grates, they can't even stand, and look so uncomfortable and bored. I walked in and walked straight out after seeing this and burning my eyes with the smell. Worse than shelters I've seen, it was so ridiculous. My son and I stopped in here to look at pets around lunchtime this week. The minute we opened the door it stunk so bad we could only stay a minute and had to leave. We never saw a clerk available. I was very disappointed as we bought a dog there several years ago and my husband I always enjoy walking the store and look at all the pets. I just got a bad feeling when coming in here. It was very hot inside (I was sweating). All of the dogs are caged up with flooring that is not solid ( I get it for sanitation) but the dogs can't even stand up without their feet going through. There was no water bowl (hamster water dropper) or toys. All of the puppies seem lethargic. The staff never acknowledged that I was in the store. read more

I love this place, the freshwater selection is usually outstanding. I only have three freshwater tanks, but usually because these guys are local they will be my go-to source for water, plants, and tank pals. Their goldfish and angel fish selection is usually really good, and I always find something cool and different in their stock when I go. This place has a little bit of everything too if you need something on the fly. I got a rescue fish the other day and was able to drop in and get a tank assembled for it no problem. Picked up some stuff for my dogs while I was there, too. Everything is also fairly priced and they know what they're talking about if you need advice. Five stars are too few for how much I love this place ! read more

The fishes here are kept in decent condition and prices are average. However, the $3000 puppies are all clearly from puppy mills and some if them dont look healthy. They are only "usda" certified or "ckc" certified which are all bs certifications saying the puppy is about as healthy as the pig or cow you ate. read more

Do your research, search 'backyard breeder' and see what you're supporting. There are literally thousands of dogs (both puppy's and full breeds) that need homes in our city, adopt one of those so these places will be put out of business and the cycle ends. read more

Mistakingly purchased a puppy here. They offer a health guarantee that they do not honor. The the puppy had kennel cough that I alerted them to in less than 24 hours. They refused to provide the medications or cover the cost. They advertised that the puppy was registered; however, I have found that they do not have any registration on the puppy and blame the breeder. The staff claims they can not do anything because the manager is on vacation for two weeks. This is false advertisement...why advertise the puppy as registered if in fact it is not? read more

Made a trip to purchase aquatic plants. While they have MANY aquatic plants, they are not for sale. Seriously? Wasted a trip out there.

The reviews are wrong. Puppies are extremely overpriced and not AKC champion bloodlines. Do your research dogs without AKC papers have very little value. Without AKC papers Goldendoodles are worth 500$, WITH PAPERS, BREEDING RIGHTS AND CHAMPION BLOODLINES THEY VALUE UP TO 2,500$. They want 1,600$ for a plain no AKC, no breeding rights, no champion blood regular golden doodle, that's THREE times asking price. Always do your research. read more

I have been dealing with this pet store for about 10 years, I am not related nor have I ever worked there. I have purchased a bird, a couple dogs, and fish as well as routinely getting feeders. All of the pets I purchased have been healthy. Perceptions are in the eye of the beholder. We are animal lovers, always checking out the place while getting feeders. It's always acceptably clean. They are understandably cautious with the puppies. There is no guarantee once a person leaves with a pet they will quarantine or take necessary precautions. This is a store with overhead and no doubt will reflect in prices. No need to bash. read more

I came here to check out the animals, and I was livid beyond my imagination. The conditions of the dogs were horrific, I wouldn't dare to put my worst enemies in those "houses" and the dogs are way over priced like wayyyy. I hate people like these, who try to dupe other people by selling unvaccinated, unhealthy dogs from puppy mills. Speaking of puppy mills, I asked where they got their dogs. And they said from a local breeder, and they didn't want to give the "breeders" name. The employees were super rude to me, like they were judging what I was doing the whole time. At one point, I asked if there was a restroom and one employee said. Do you think there's a restroom here? I was distraught by that rude remark. The best pet store in Houston, I have purchased multiple animals from them since 2004 such as a bearded dragon, tarantula and my cockatiel who is almost 10 years old now and got a green cheek from them in december. So what makes this place better than let's say, Petsmart or Petco? They Know their stuff, very informative on animal care, birds are actually hand tamed and the health of every animal I have gotten there has been a tremendous step up. For those complaining about the puppies, I have worked at pet resorts and pet stores. The puppies are in good health and like every other animal whether it's a fish, bird, reptile, etc. they have to be kept in an enclosure, it's normal. The kennels they're kept in are also clean, dogs can be very messy especially at a young age but they do a good job at keeping up with a good presentation. Overall, I highly recommend this place. read more

Fair warning: DO NOT buy birds, fish, or small animals from this establishment! "Nothing we sell is guaranteed." I was told after the first 3 fish died. It seems like that would be something to inform your customers BEFORE they decide to risk buying here. I have bought more than one of all three and this was the last time me, friends, or family make the mistake of buying here. (1 bunny, 3 gerbils, 14 fish and 2 parakeets. All have not lasted more than 7 months) The bunny, first parakeet and the gerbils died one after the other after the fourth month mark. They were all gifts for adult family and I don't know how they died or why. The other gerbils, Guinea pigs, and parakeets I bought from Petco are still doing great. (2years later) but this is about my most recent purchase, 3 days ago. It consisted of a parakeet and several fish, the last remaining fish died today. Sometimes fish die... but not ALL 14 and different species!!! As for the parakeet he was all fluffed up and it's beak was wet around it's nostrils. (No, he wasn't like that when I bought him, but then again they don't let you see the birds up close. They just grab them from the cage and put them in a box) I didn't want to put him in my aviary room in his condition. So I kept him by himself for two days. Last night I took the bird to a family vet and he told me it was contagious and in such poor shape he doubted he'd last the night. (He was right. I'm glad I kept it quarantined from my other birds.) I'm not by any means a novice at raising animals but this place sure makes me feel like one. The owner and her children are there for the money, she doesn't seem to have any compassion for live lives she's in care of and didn't care that these animals seemed to all have medical issues. However I see that they've just put up a sign saying that they do not guarantee their animals. (I'm in the parking lot now) That just confirms the attitude of this place and the lack of pride they put into the live animals they sell. I'm disappointed I had to even leave one star, this place is so disheartening. read more

I just recently purchased a lab puppy from there on a Sunday. I had to bring him into a vet that following Friday, and come to find out the puppy has Parvo. I tried contacting the pet place and the lady tries denying the test that my veterinarian performed on the puppy. Also just found out that "the pet place" has had parvo in their building within the last year. DO NOT purchase a dog from this place. It is now going to cost me a couple thousand in treatment to try ensure the dog will live and the pet place refuses to compensate me for their mistreatment of the dog. I'm going to report this place as soon as possible, especially because they have other puppies there that are now going to suffer. read more

I came here because it was a close drive and I always prefer local shops. The customer service was great- Thao-An helped me pick out a few different fish and a tank and it's been a really great set up! Not sure what all of the other reviews are talking about.. I'll come here instead of petco/petsmart every time. The birds and puppies are great too, they're all super well taken care of. I bought a Boston Terrier from them as a puppy and she has been healthy as a horse! She is now 20 months old and a part of our family. Was against buying from a pet store but decided to go in and look...so glad I did. Took 2 days after purchase to vet and she got a clean bill of health. Do not come here. The owner is very condescending and rude towards you when you're purchasing an animal. My family member started taking our dog to be groomed there and for some reason she comes back limping and less happy. The dogs inside their shop are always locked up, never touched or handled from what I've seen. Not sure if they get their dogs from puppy mills, but they are definitely neglected. Do not ask the owner for pet advice because she'll just criticize and belittle you with how you care for your pets. Will never step inside this place again. read more

I was shocked the store only had 1 star. Every fish I've bought from here was healthy and still alive in my tank. Yes, it's not the nicest pet store but the owner and staff are always friendly. What a sad place. You can't handle the puppies unless you intend on purchasing one because "handling isn't good for them." What a blatant lie! Puppies need to be socialized with people and to be handled. The people who own this place are just lazy and don't want to waste their time socializing the puppies. The puppies are left in small cages without toys or anything. They don't even have proper bowls of water, just little hamster type water bottles. They don't care about animals at all. They just want to make a buck off these puppies. The puppies are all around $800. You can tell all these puppies are from puppy mills too. You can also find reputable breeders who will charge you less for the same breeds this pet store sells. I overheard one of the store associates talking to a customer and telling him she could do the shots for a puppy today and then do the rest of the shots in two or three days. This isn't healthy for puppies at all! You're supposed to wait two weeks in between shots. They just wanted to sell the puppy as fast as possible. Pet Place doesn't care about puppies all they care about is money!!! read more

They buy from puppy mills. No reputable breeder would ever sell a dog to someone with a checking out that person's home situation and ensuring the dog is going to a wonderful, forever home. No one cares about these dogs, and I imagine many of them are sold to people who eventually can't care for them and they end up in a rescue or worse. SHOULD BE NAMED PUPPY MILL. PLEASE READ VERY IMPORTANT. I've been wanting a maltipoo for the past few years and I've been looking for a credible owner. I have refused to buy from flea markets due to the fact that they get their dogs from puppy mills. Puppy mills is the one thing I have been avoiding. I went to a flea market to see the condition of a maltipoo from a puppy mill and oh it was horrible. Mud all over it, super tired and all. And I knew I wanted a dog from a credible breeder or a credible owner of a store. I drove an hour and a half after seeing this dog online and wanting the puppy!!! I had thought I found a place to get my puppy from after all! When I was there, I was looking around my "Christy's" store and saw her dogs were very deprived. They wouldn't even move. The store smelt horrible and they didn't even have food. Even my dog was sitting in his own poop and I asked her to clean him from it. I wasn't thinking much about the whole puppy mill situation. I was blinded on how excited I was to get my new puppy from a woman who claimed they were from breeders. I was blinded by that and failed to notice obvious signs. Now puppy mills are horrible places that interbreed dogs into their own brothers sisters and family, causing deformities and poor functioning. They also keep dogs in cages together and provide them with no food or water and keep them in dirty places. They are known for abusing dogs also. And I was so so so shocked that this woman that guaranteed a breeder BUT WOULDNT DISCLOSE ANY INFO ABOUT THEM FOOLED ME. I bought a dog from here less than a week ago. I took a feces sample to the vet and apparently my dog has been housed with many other dogs and also been drinking contaminated water more than a week ago (meaning while it was with the manager who sold him) I have been promised it is not from a puppy mill, but the results are showing otherwise. The manager refuses to call me and instead makes her inexperienced employees call me and attempt to help me out. Horrible place overall. Eveything guaranteed is a lie. She can't even tell me if they got it from a breeder. UPDATE::: the woman promised to pay all his vet visit fees until he is free of giardia. This woman has not called back about it at all and says it is our problem now. She does not care for the dogs AT ALL. This woman is a fraud. Poor animals in this store. THIS IS CRUELLA FROM 101 dalmanations poor puppies who knows what she does to them. My dog is very sick now and I'm doing everything to make him better.
