We were looking for a specific dog food for our little finicky puppy. After searching for a few minutes and not finding it, I asked the very nice gentleman who had greeted us when we walked in for help. He immediately came over to check the racks and shelves, confirmed they were out of stock, and asked if we would like to check another nearby location. When we confirmed, he asked us to wait while he called to make sure they had it, so we wouldn't make the trip in vain. Once he connected and confirmed they had it, he asked them to hold it for us until we got there. I loved the friendliness and the way he went out of his way to help us get what we needed. They have a great system here. You can wash your dog and shop. I would give 5 stars if it wasn't for the most unfriendly and anti dog person I have ever met, Dagger. They are so rude and clearly doesn't like dogs. I have raved about the Novato location before. Emily has helped me a few times, and she was always so polite and friendly. I hadn't been there in awhile and I came back in to not be greeted by Dagger. Every word they said, dripped with attitude and annoyance. I had to ask a few questions and they couldn't even look at me. Clipped words and half a$$ed pointing in a general direction. Man oh man. I had Target-level hopes for Pet Food Express and got the Gucci treatment! Alex helped me to select a (relatively) reasonably-priced raw food for my Savannah cat and even offered a sample of a second option to compare. I also learned that any packaged food (cans or kibble) that a pet rejects can be returned and are then donated to animals in need. I usually use the Pet Food Express on Nave Drive to wash my dog, but recently brought her to this location. She was struggling to get up the steps, and one of the guys who work there came over and helped me lift her! Great service. I also recently switched my dog to a grain free diet, and they have been great in helping me try different wet foods, and gave me a sample of food for her to try. When I finally decided to switch over to dry as well, the staff was very helpful, and gave me a can of pumpkin to help with the switch. Great staff here!! read more

We bring our dog for the dog wash, and get most of her food here. They are not the cheapest, but they offer "Buy 3 and get the 4th free" discount for most things, including the dog wash. The dog wash is so convenient -- I don't want to move to the area where there's no Pet Food Express! The staff is always very helpful and pleasant. I love the fact that they never sell live animals here, and promote adoption. Our kind of pet store! We adopted our pets, and try to give to adoption organizations. Amy was incredible! This place is near my place of work, so it's incredibly convenient to pick up as many pet supplies as possible. My cat is horribly picky, and since I couldn't find the dry food we've been feeding him, I tried a different one, which he literally will not even touch. I've tried to get him "nice" food, but if it's too expensive or not a flavour he likes, he won't eat it. Amy spent half an hour with me suggesting foods that he might eat, good quality, and not bank-breaking. She was thorough with every step of the process, friendly, and an absolute joy to talk with after a long day of work. The food I ended up purchasing was perfect and Meeko loves it, and I wouldn't have given it a second look if it weren't for Amy's help. Thanks so much! P.S. Love going here. They always have what I need and their staff is always ready to make an educated recommendation for both my cat and dog. A great solution eliminating a wet and hairy bathroom. We take 100 pound GSD to pet Food express for all of his needs whether it's treats, a toy, and most importantly baths. There is a large second room in the building dedicated for pet washers with large tubs. Washing your pet hair is so easy and quick. The staff is always friendly and affectionate to your furry friend. My dog found some particularly thick mud on our walk and then to top it off was sprayed by a skunk in our backyard. My day was about to become a disaster. I called the store and was greeted on the phone by Chelsea, who reassured me that the store was open until 8:00 despite it being a holiday. I was so relieved! When I arrived a few hours later, she recognized me from what I had described on the phone and helped me find the appropriate products to eliminate the skunk smell. It took me 5 washes and rinses of soap to get rid of the caked mud and most of the foul smell. I had run out of towels and was once again rescued, this time by Alex. I must say that the kindness that Chelsea and Alex showed me and my disgustingly dirty and stinky K9, were what turned my entire day around. They made my day. I just returned from this Pet Food Express (PFE) on Diablo in Novato. My mind is blown. My faith in humanity is restored. I was completely out of food for my bird. I approached the automatic doors - they didn't open. I couldn't immediately see a sign with hours. I saw a person inside and mouthed "are you closed?" She approached the doors and slid them open. PFE: "Yes, we're closed. It's Sunday, we close at 6. Are you out of food?" I look at my phone. Me: "Shoot, it's almost 7 p.m. Okay. Thanks." I turn to leave. PFE: "Are you out of food?" Me: "Well, yeah." PFE: "Come get what you need, you just have to come back tomorrow and pay." Me: "What? Really?" And so I got food for my bird! All they wanted was my name and phone number. I offered to leave cash but they had already processed the sales for the day and didn't want to take it. I am overwhelmed by their generosity and trust. Unfortunately, I was also out of guinea pig food, too, but in my shock I forgot to grab it. I'll just get it tomorrow when I go back to pay. read more

I just have to give a shout out to the best pet shop, Pet Food Express in Novato Fair on Diablo. They have to most knowledgeable staff I have ever experienced in my life! My elderly cat was diagnosed with hyper thyroid. The vet put him on medication and science diet food that you can only buy from the vet. My cat was continuously throwing up for 3 weeks and not getting better. After my third trip to the vets office and $2,000.00 in vet bills, I showed the vet that my cats ears were red and that he was having a allergic reaction to the medication. She agreed, and then she told me I could try controlling his condition through food (wish she had given me that option in the beginning). That's when I met Barb at Pet Food Express. She was so kind and knowledgeable. She helped me with finding a healthy food choice for my cat. He has been on "Just for Cats" fresh frozen food for 6 months. His condition cleared up right away once he started on this great food. I am so thankful for all the staff at Pet Food Express especially Barb! She saved my cats life!!! read more

Beware of the VIP pet care shots they give at all of the pet food express locations. It is no cheaper then going to a vet. They treat all the animals that come though like they treat animals at a slaughter house. They stabbed my 6 pound dog chihuahua with a 3 inch needle in the hip. My dog is still limping from this incident. Which occurred over a week ago from the date that I write this. No hate to pet food express. Because VIP is a separate company. I completely agree with K.P. Pet Food Express in Novato is amazing. The staff are so friendly and jump right in to help - I never feel like it's an inconvenience for them to have to assist me, as I often do at PetCo. They genuinely care about my (and my pet's) needs each time I go in, and it shows. One employee spent twenty minutes with me explaining the different dietary options for my senior cat who has special needs. She went into detail explaining why some foods are better for pets than others (those at the grocery store are nasty!). She knew a lot about cat physiology and the way our feline friends process food. She told me what ingredients in mainstream pet food (meat by-products are soooo bad!) contribute to the most typical health problems in cats. Since starting her on the new food six months ago, my cat has been so much healthier, playful, vital, and happy. Her coat shines like it never has! The employee also helped me pick out an igloo-like litter box that would contain my cat's urine - she sprays like a male cat because she can't squat very well. This post is a few weeks late but I wanted to be sure to get it in. I was in desperate need for flea help and while I like petco their staff never seems to have any real information. I can read the back of a package too. I came into Pet food Express and was greeted by Alex, he listened to my problem and said he would do his best to help even though he was new. He wasn't sure on everything but got some advice and directed me to the flea products. I couldn't figure out why the fleas kept coming back but he explained that only a tiny percentage of the fleas were actually on my dog, and the rest were in my house. I ended buying flea medication, powder for my floors and a spray for everything else. I am so glad to be rid of fleas. If I ever need help again I will be back. I only shop here for natural & organic food for my cats. The new store in San Rafael is great, too. The staff in both locations are always friendly and very helpful. My sister discovered that the treats she buys her dog are sometimes $2 or $3 cheaper here than at the bigger chains! The Buy 3/Get One Free is great for stocking up. No one else offers anything close to Pet Food Express. It is by far the best place to go to get food for your pet. I need to tell you about an employee at the Novato pet food express. Emmanuel who is a young girl working at that store for a year. I brought in my daughters dog who was infested with fleas. It was like I was at a vets office. She helped me wash the dog and remove all the fleas. 45 min later her shift was over but she made sure that we were ok and the dog was ok. I have never gone anywhere where the employee goes above and beyond like this girl. She was wonderful! Please take good care of this employee because there are only a few of these around. read more

There are only a few pet food supply stores in town, and two of them are chain stores, this one being one of them. They are a bit higher priced but they do offer a giod selection of high quality kitten food. All their canned foods are buy 3 and the 4th one is free! I love their return policy as well. I have been fostering dogs through Lily's Senior Dog Rescue in Petaluma for several years. Over the years I have fostered 11 different senior dogs. Although many of the employees are no longer employed at Pet Food Express in Novato, there is one woman who still remains, Barb. Words cannot express my gratitude to Barb as she has helped me to decide which dog food and/or supplies would be best for the pup I was fostering at the time. When I would bring the pup in Barb would always spend time with me and I would explain the personality and specifics of the pup.
