Gr8 location. So so food. Surly eastern euro staff. Not all of them but some. This place seems to have high staff turnover and not focused on training staff in nice manners. Just get a beer and appetiser and hang out. Not a great place for a full on meal. Salads are ok. Nice decor.

Pescado has to be one of the busiest spots in the new Wynyard Quarter. Perhaps it is it's handy location, at the end of the row next to Silo Park, but whatever it is it brings in punters by the dozen. The food at Pescado is mostly tapas style with a few mains thrown in for good measure. I've been there a few times and tried both. All of the food is nice, but a little underwhelming. Not the best quality ingredients or the best seasoning, but certainly good to eat. The service is a little patchy; always plenty of staff on but different levels of professionalism displayed.

Went for farewell drinks and rounds of tapas at Pescado on a Tuesday night. Initially there was a warm welcome for our group of 10. Only two waiters so when another large group came in we were largely ignored and had to wait 20 minutes for our next round of drinks as had to go up to the bar and ask for service. The food was all right. What surprised me was that it having Spanish cuisine there were three Indian chefs and two Indian waiters. Go figure. Overall experience was all right but will give it a miss next time.

Pescado is the westernmost of the row of new restaurants that opened a couple of years back on Wynyard Quarter's North Wharf. Like everywhere on the wharf, the waterfront views are lovely and there's always plenty of people on a stroll that give the surrounds life. Food-wise, Pescado is always one of those places that always seems to promise slightly more than it delivers. I've done both tapas and mains here on different occasions, and there's been good dishes and average dishes. A chicken breast main was slightly overcooked my first time here, while some of the tapas dishes weren't all that tasty and somehow not quite fresh. Nonetheless, it's a good price for the location and what a location at that.

Man of many talents. We came here recently for Book Club and sat on their long table outside. It was chilly but they have heaters and wind down awnings so it was bearable. Considering it was only a Tuesday, it was pretty busy. Obviously Grey Lynn locals don't mind a drink and to be honest, I don't blame them. If I had a cool wine bar down the road I'd be doing exactly the same. The wine list here isn't huge but it does features some interesting options, including a number of European reds. We settled on an Italian red that was full bodied and only $9 - absolute steal! They also have a short menu featuring easy to share crowd pleasers. Think sliders, cheese & charcuterie platters and the like. All in all a great spot for an after-work drink tipple - fun & friendly atmosphere without the rowdy drunks.

So it is with Frieda Margolis and their quizzical "West Lynn Organic Meats" sign. Luckily for Frieda, they do a good job, and once you've been there for a drink once, you'll likely want to return. Great selection of craft beers from Wellington and a charming little eats menu. Four stars.

Grilled beef steak (19) is my favourite but I've kindly let my friends choose dishes this time. Squid & Couscous ($19) tasted succulent and fresh as always. I love this dish too! It's somewhat very refreshing and tastes healthy. We've tried the Prawn ($19.9) for the first time but I wasn't impressed. The sauce was too overwhelming the taste of prawn. Display was a bit awful too. Not a dish I wanted to try again! My friends have a love for eggplants but all we could taste for this Baked Eggplants ($14) was pesto. We also ordered Risotto balls ($8) but nothing was special about it. I didn't really enjoy the creamy cheesy dip. Maybe because I'm not a cheese lover. Their dish seems a bit expensive to be a tapas but I do want to defend them - the amount is huge. And you wouldn't regret ordering it at its price (if you order right things I mean).

My favourite is the raspberry sorbet but the espresso crème brulee and chocolate tart are also amazing! The place is MASSIVE so it's perfect for big and small groups. The loft area upstairs really makes you feel like you're having dinner in an intimate house whereas the downstairs area has the feel of a bar. It's a great place for a cozy evening and it's often not super crowded either which can make a brilliant change from most places in Auckland.
