But I went to Douglas Liquors on probably 15 occasions and never got a "How you doin' today? Did you find everything you were looking for?" or a "Hey, I notice you get the ____ a lot, but have you tried the ____? I really like it." When the person behind the counter has more charm than a three-bean salad, I'm a little more likely to become a regular. Nothing really wrong with the place, but nothing to keep me coming back again and again. I suggest Gallery of Wines for beer and wine (and charm and service), or Liquor World for the hard stuff.

The selection of the wines and spirits is very good and they have the aisles and shelves very clearly labelled and marked. I was looking for a specific Chenin Blanc, which they did not have, but the prices and selection of most other wines was good. I had the chance to interact with a staff member and he was very professional and helpful. Lots of free parking in front of the main entrance.

One can certainly find significantly larger selection at liquor superstores in Warwick or Attleboro, and if you are looking for exotic wines or champagnes then you probably would be much happier at those places, but Murphy's does have a surprisingly wide selection of certain items packed into a compact space. Murphy's holds its own with sake, mead, and other less in-demand beverages that small stores typically ignore because they are quite a lot smaller and quite a lot more expensive, and Murphy's best competes as an alternative to those. As a practical matter, if I'm buying a bottle of table wine to bring as a dinner guest or something of that sort, I'm more likely to buy it from Murphy's than from anywhere else because of good prices and convenient location.

The big issue with this place is that it's dirty. Yes, that's in part due to the trashy folks you get walking in and out. While we were there two girl size 26 girls wearing size 6 spandex waltzed in. At one point they simultaneously bent over causing layers of flab to cascade over their skimpy clothing. It was the stuff that nightmares are made of. But the customers aren't the real issue. People watching in Pawtucket is actually one of my favorite hobbies. The problem is that the place itself is just plain dirty. There's one spot with a crumpled up fleece on the floor that's meant to capture water from the dripping roof. Every cooler was covered in grime. The whole place is just dingy. Not to mention, the layout is clumsy. The beer is in three completely different corners of the store. Look, I get it. The aisles are clearly labeled with what type of alcohol is in them, and they have an especially large wine selection as well, organized by type. They used to have one of my favorite roses here when nowhere else had it - it's since no longer carried here last I checked, which is tragic, but they have a lot of unique and high quality, yet reasonably priced, options that I've been able to switch to. There are even tons of mixers, snacks, and gift basket type paraphernalia available here by the checkouts, so it can be a one stop shop before you head to a party or stock up for a date night. Even their selection of local craft beers is more diverse than most other places I've tried - it's especially great around the holidays if you want to gift some local craft beer. I'm always recommending this place to people. I even needed help looking for something specific I was wandering around forever and unable to find, and they paged someone from the back to come out and help me find it on the shelves.
