At first I made the appointment for the following Wednesday, but as the weekend progressed, I knew I needed to be seen sooner, if it was possible. On Monday morning at 8:15, I called the office # and was surprised that Dr. Nevins, himself, had answered the phone (sounded like he was in his car.) He told me to come in at noon that same day. After my consultation with him, he told me he could do the first part of the procedure that same day at 3pm. Since I work in Southampton, it was easy enough for me to go back to work for a few hours and then return to have the work done. Dr. Nevins and his staff are all so sweet, gentle and caring. What a truly, nice group of people. I am so glad that he was referred to me by a friend. I definitely recommend him if you are need of an endodontist.

During my first, consultative visit I got a sales pitch while literally seated in the dental chair. They tried to get me to commit to what the dentist had just told me was an un necessary root canal. The reason for my visit was a cracked tooth, which needs a crown (I'm now scheduled for this procedure at Riverhead Family Dentistry on Thursday of this week) I should have followed my gut instinct to leave, but I let laziness get the better of me as I had already filled out paperwork for my dental insurer. I called to schedule my crown procedure and got another sales pitch for a root canal, which I declined. Then...the fun started! Multiple text messages and confirmations daily. After a dozen txt messages and a half dozen calls, I finally pushed back and asked to stop being harassed. My complaint was parried with the following response "if you want to keep your appointment, you'll need to pay 50% or $700 when you arrive. Do you want to keep the appointment or not?" Wow. I do not. I may, however, go back to see The creepy Beatles display. I'll admit it was interesting.

Patrice is my hygienist for the past few visits and she is great. I can't say the same about the desk staff anymore. The only doctor today is Dr Trapani and seems like he has a difficult case with one of his patients and everyone has to wait without having any of the office staff apologizing for the delay and explaining what's going on. It's time to have at least 2 dentist at all time in the office. I don't come just for x-rays and clean up. The most important part of a dentist visit is the evaluation to keep up with a healthy teeth. I am very disappointed that I a have to advocate for myself to want to be seeing by Dr Trapani, otherwise I was just going to be dismissed until my next appointment. When I arrived at the office I filled out the paperwork and right after I was ushered to the consultation room to see Dr. Friedel. He explained the procedure step by step pointing to the X-Ray. I asked about the bone graft and he also explained that. Then I went into the surgery room and the doctor gave me shots of Novocain. After a few minutes he checked if I was numb and gave me additional shots. The procedure took only minutes and I did not feel any pain whatsoever. I was shocked and almost laughed at myself for being so scared beforehand. I recommend this doctor wholeheartedly.

My experience at this practice was highly uncomfortable, with very little attempt on the doctor's part to rectify. In short, I was treated in a manner I believed warranted a negative online review. In retaliation for this complaint, I was denied the information I needed to submit my insurance claim (I had paid up front and then was seeking reimbursement). When I tried to speak with Dr. Parli about this issue, he demanded I leave the office and never come back, and seems intent on keeping the money I prepaid (I have two cleanings owed to me). His dental work is great, I won't deny that, but it does not matter how good his work is if this is how he treats patients.

We have both become increasingly uncomfortable with the front office's communication style and overall handling of concerns. At one point, I explicitly communicated that the cadence and manner in which I was being spoken to was increasing my dental anxiety and making it progressively harder for me to attend appointments. Rather than understanding or professionalism, I was met with dismissal and rudeness from the office manager. More recently, my father had his own horrible experience involving billing and insurance coding issues. During that situation, he was also spoken to disrespectfully by the office manager, who withheld insurance-related information after a negative Facebook review was posted. There is considerably more to this situation, including audio recordings and additional context, but because the matter is still active, I am choosing to exercise restraint in what I publicly disclose at this time. I do want to be fair and acknowledge that the dentists and hygienists at the practice have consistently been excellent. The practice itself also clearly makes an effort to create a calming, comfortable environment for patients through warm pillows, eye masks, and relaxing music, which I appreciated as someone with dental anxiety. Under most circumstances, this would outweigh a problematic office manager, but in this case, the level of disrespect and, quite frankly, unwillingness to do her job makes the practice impossible to continue with comfort.
