I recently reached out to Ms Perla, based on Yelp reviews, to help my college-going daughter clear her Spanish 3 proficiency test. OK, so this year, along with three other very challenging AP courses, my son decided (actually, insisted) that he wanted to take AP Spanish as he really likes the language and culture. And when the school year started, we found out that his Spanish teacher was actually still on maternity leave, and the school had no luck in finding qualified substitutes until she came back. Suffice to say, we worried that he would not be prepared for the AP Spanish test in time, as we don't speak a word of Spanish ourselves. So we went to Perla to see if she could help him prepare for the test. Perla was wonderful to work with. My son had lots of time conflicts because of his many after-school activities, but Perla worked with him through it all. She was kind and caring, and he enjoyed going to his lessons with her. She spoke Spanish constantly with him, so he got used to listening in Spanish. She also helped him speak, and gave him someone to practice with. All in all, she was heaven-sent! I got to know Perla two years ago when my son was finishing up middle school. He did not take Spanish in middle school and I was very worried he might struggle on Spanish in high school. I found Perla's tutoring center from the internet and was very impressed by Perla on the very first phone call. She picked up the phone immediately, which was so nice since I am frequently greeted by voice mails from most businesses. Perla started to teach my son the summer after his middle school to get a head start on Spanish. My son really enjoyed working with Perla. Unfortunately, my son had a terrible Spanish teacher at his high school during his 9th grade, so he pretty much completely relied on Perla to learn Spanish 1. Now he has finished Spanish 2 and received an A+ for the semester. Being a native Spanish speaker, Perla certainly is a master of the language. More importantly, Perla goes above and beyond to take care of her students. She would answer my son's questions outside of her tutoring sessions, arrange extra tutoring sessions when my son is struggling on certain topics, and put extra effort to prepare my son for his exams. We feel so lucky to have found Perla as my daughter, Ava, started AP Spanish at Foothill HS last year. Ava felt she was behind as she entered AP Spanish and had considered dropping the class. When we started with Perla, she had a small group for students who had her teacher, Mr. Ospina. Perla and Lupita are absolutely outstanding teachers. My son was taking the Spanish 2 and 3 courses at Granada, which are on a fast trimester system. He was having a difficult time keeping up and began going twice a week for an hour session. He went from stressed out to success. Both ladies are extremely kind and hardworking. My son had Lupita as his tutor for Span 3 last year. I wish I had found them years before. Perla and Lupita are great and encouraging instructors. Lupita made herself available during the week to answer questions and check work over the phone. Because they are native Spanish speakers AND also understand the high school's curriculum, they were the ideal tutors. I was fortunate to find them after trying one of the larger tutoring centers in Pleasanton (their tutor obviously did not know Spanish well enough - my son found a couple mistakes the tutor made and I would see her looking up answers in the back of the text book!).
