Sarah was a huge part of the fact that I was able to return to sport within 5 months of surgery. Todd Sparks is extremely knowledgeable, caring, thorough and thoughtful. I've been to most of the physical therapy locations in San Diego and had almost given up hope until I was recommended Performance Plus. Each session I am getting better and stronger, I notice the difference his massages and exercise plans have on the way I walk. Try him out for a 2-4 weeks and you will notice an improvement. By the way, his massages are also the best! I also recommend Tiffany if you have the chance of meeting her when she comes back. Oh, and in terms of COVID sanitation practices, they are all wearing masks, clean the beds after each usage, wash their hands before moving on to another patient, and have us distanced apart! They do routine temperature checks and take your wrist's temperature. Safety precautions are good here! Lastly, one thing that also distinguishes them from others is that everyone who works here is friendly and will watch you throughout your exercise and offer corrections! Other places left a timer, walked away and only came back when you're done. Not here! You will get advice on proper form and adjustments if you cannot do the exercise given. What a rare find! I started my PT with Performance Plus+ about a year ago with a Rt. knee injury then lower back, neck and shoulder and now Lt. knee and I wouldn't go anywhere else. Todd the owner runs a very clean and professional clinic. Jennifer was my therapist and was so informative, gentle (well sometimes ) and persistent in my healing. Thank you so much Jen. Janel was her assistant and honestly if I wasn't informed I would've thought she was one of the doctors of physical therapy here also. She was very knowledgeable regarding all of my exercises and pushed me to do better. I was told by my Workers Comp doctor that if I was either very mad at or very terrified of my physical therapist that they were doing their job right. First of all, let me start off by saying Todd Sparks and his entire staff is amazing!! About 6 months ago I ran up a ramp wall at a trampoline park and completely ruptured my Achilles' tendon. I knew right away it was a completely torn. I am a pretty active 38 year old male and train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at least 3-4 days a week. So once I realized what happened I was devastated because I know how long the healing process is for that type of injury. To put in into perspective, if a professional basketball player suffers the same injury they're normally out for 1-2 seasons and when they come back they're never the same. On average they typically retire within 2 years of coming back from the injury. After my surgery I was referred to Todd Sparks at Performance Plus. He came highly recommended by 2 different people that didn't know each other so I called him and decided to give it a shot. In the initial consultation he spent well over an hour explaining the recovery process on type of injury I had and went over the game plan. He had to get through to me that there is no magic pill regarding therapy and I had to go through the motions and trust the process. Todd and his entire staff are amazing at what they do! Todd is especially great with soft tissue work and great with creating excellent exercises that isolate the area to improve range of motion and strengthen the muscles around the injury. That way it helps promote a healthy and balanced body so you don't over compensate and injure a different area on the opposite side (which happens a lot from a major injury). It's been about 6 months post surgery and I am now back to training jiu jitsu about 4 days a week and exercising regularly. I am also about ready to start implementing running into my routine as well. I can't thank Todd, Gio and their team enough for all they're guidance and help through this process. I will continue to see them once per week. I'm also thankful that they were open during Covid as well. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for an amazing physical therapist team. Dr. Todd is the consummate professional with an exceptional bedside manner, highly knowledgeable, and exceedingly competent at his craft. My experience with physical therapy began approximately 4 years years ago. Following a car accident from which I developed upper back and neck pain, namely trigger points, I was referred to San Diego Sports Medicine Physical Therapy. My experience there did not impress me. I felt like a number, was given a sheet of paper with a bunch of exercises to follow. When I walked out, I didn't feel like I wanted to come back. "If this is what physical therapy is like, I don't think I want to do this. I'll just do my own thing", I thought. I shared my experience with a relative who happened to be a patient of Dr. Todd's. She spoke very highly of his quality of care and practice in general. She recommended I call to make an appointment. I'm so glad I did! It's now been approximately two and a half years on and off under Dr. Todd's care for a series of issues: trigger points, De Quervain Syndrome and sciatic pain. In each of these respects, Dr. Todd has done careful assessments and then moved on to offering a treatment plan that has included a combination of stretching, manipulation, massage, heat and electrical stimulation. And it doesn't end there. As I came to realize, wellness depends on continuing the care at home. To this end, Dr. Todd offers practical (and realistic) stretches and/or exercises to carry out on one's own time. Among Dr. Todd's advanced credentials, he is a certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. In other words, he does "adjustments" whenever needed. Getting adjusted has come to be an added benefit to the care he provides. Under Dr. Todd's care, I have recovered full range of motion and my pain has diminished greatly. He has mild Cerebral Palsy that is reflected in constant tightness in one of his legs (hyper-tonic). He has been under physical therapy care with county services for the last 3-4 years. We broached the topic with Dr. Todd and he recommended one of his staff, Dr. Jenny Santamaria. He said Dr. Jenny has a concentration in pediatric physical therapy. This is by far the best physical therapy place I have ever been to! I have been having shoulder and hip issues for years and I was HIGHLY recommended to go to Todd. I finally made an appointment and after a week, I feel SO MUCH BETTER! He is such a great physical therapist that I drive down from Los Angeles just to see him. The facility is nice and clean and the staff is extremely kind. Todd goes above and beyond during each session to make sure he understands exactly how I am doing and what needs to be done. He spends the entire appointment with me and he spends lots of time massaging the affected area. He gives great advice and recommends exercises that actually WORK!
