My treatment started because of my broken leg, and I went twice a week down to once a week for a period of 3 months. I always did a warm-up, and then they tailored the exercises to strengthen and increase my flexibility. Those workouts were not easy, but necessary! Made me work up a sweat. My visits usually took one hour, and thank goodness my insurance provided and covered this service. I could also do more exercises at home with the online program they gave me. Performance Plus Physical Therapy in Chula Vista is by far the best experience I have ever had with physical therapy. The clinic is located in Chula Vista on East Palomar Street. The facility is clean and most of the staff is absolutely amazing. I was very fortunate to be paired with the best staff members under my care. For almost 3.5 months Dr. Jacqueline Dagostino and Erick Plazo had put together a plan to help relieve shoulder pain I had been experiencing for months. They pin pointed the issue and consistently worked with me until I was confident enough to be discharged to continue at home exercises. Jacquie and Erick always made me feel welcomed every time I came into the clinic, always listened to what I needed to say and genuinely cared about what was going on. We'd always have great conversations to help comfort and distract me through my pain during exercises. The exercise specialist are also great! I was always paired up with Alicia and she was just the sweetest employee who walked me through each exercise. I've been to many different physical therapy clinics for the last few years, and i can't recommend Performance Plus enough. In the past, I never got better at the other locations and felt that some of the therapists (not all) were very robotic and saw me only as a number. That hasn't been the case here at all. Performance plus truly cares about their patients and are more attentive during my sessions than anywhere I've ever been to. I was truly amazed, and I'm not someone who's easily impressed. Each patient has their own doctor who attends to them personally during every session. I was luckily enough to be paired with Dr. Rachel Herman. She's helped me so much that a review would not do her justice. The staff here is equally amazing. So kind and welcoming, attentive, respectful, caring, and patient. I had knee replacement surgery in August 2019. Underwent physical therapy, mostly focused on range of motion. After a year I still was experiencing pain in the knee. Surgery was performed in Cincinnati, but was being followed up here by a local doctor, who frankly was more interested in replacing the other knee than examining first one. Sought a second opinion. This doctor immediately diagnosed an IT band issue and referred me to physical therapy. They had a list of different clinics, but recommended Performance Plus. I was fortunately assigned to Dr. Gio Valenzuela as my therapist. I cannot say enough great things about this young man. Besides the knee there were some other issues with the knee. In just a matter of 3-4 weeks the knee was doing better, although still experiencing some pain. Dr. Valenzuela took it upon himself to contact the ortho doctor and discuss my case. The ortho doctor and Dr. Valenzuela coordinated their efforts. Between them, they have given me exercises to do at home, and Dr. Valenzuela has shown me how to change certain motions to minimize aggravation of the knee. I still have some pain, but vastly, vastly reduced and certainly very manageable. I don't think you can find a more caring physical therapist! The support staff is also excellent, from the receptionist to the exercise therapists who work along with Dr. Valenzuela. If going here I strongly suggest you request him as your therapist. read more

I have accepted the fact that my pain will never go away; however, I refused to quit on finding ways to relieve some of the pain. Therapists aren't magicians, they won't be able to make all of your pain disappear, that all depends on your body's ability to heal itself. I am one of those patients that suffers with chronic back pain, and I have tried almost every other physical therapy clinics (including injections and medications) in the area that are in-network. I noticed each facility has its own approach; some spend too much time focusing on exercises and less time working on the patient, while others spend way too little time with patients at all. I have known Todd for over 2 years, back when he used to work for CVPG. I love working with him because he is a one of a kind therapist. He just doesn't listen to his patient's concerns but he also goes above and beyond to make sure that the patients leave pain-free (or pain-less) if possible. I was so relieved to know that he opened his own practice, plus now he's even closer to where I live. He may have a smaller practice but that just means that his staff is able to focus on their patients more because they prefer quality of care over quantity of patients. When I started with Todd's clinic, I was in and out of there in an hour. I felt like I had the appropriate amount of one-on-one time with my therapist, exercises, and "ice" time. Todd is one of the most competent therapists that i have worked with. At his clinic, I am able to relax and focus on healing and making myself feel better because I know I am in very capable hands. He is able to sense where the most painful spots are and focus on relieving some of the tension, and then he creates the appropriate exercise plan that your body is able to tolerate. At the end of my session, it feels like I can accomplish more errands because I didn't have to worry about feeling more pain for the rest of the day. I'm sure there's other clinics that may offer better perks or gimmicks but nothing compares to Todd's approach; he simply and truly does provide an exceptional one-on-one patient care. read more

I love everything about this place. I have been coming to Performance Plus for a couple months and they have used a wide variety of techniques to try and improve my hip issue. My problem is likely surgical, and the staff has been up front about the fact that it won't be "fixed" by Physical Therapy but I still see a major difference in how I feel and I keep coming back. I started my physical therapy at Performance Plus about 4 weeks ago. The Office Manager, Vivian, was very professional on the phone and assisted me in getting my approval through TRI-WEST and get scheduled for my first appointment. Vivian is great with scheduling appointments that meet my needs and makes you feel welcome on every visit. Dr. Todd Sparks did my intake the first visit and was very thorough with the questions that he asked about my condition and the issues that I was having. He explained the process that we would follow on each visit. I felt almost immediate relief from some of my pain after my first visit and have been making steady progress. Dr. Shawn was also very skilled in massaging the affected muscles. The Exercise specialist that I have had, Bree and Oscar, are both very knowledgeable, professional and understanding if you can't do all that they suggest that you do at that time. We work up to it. About four months ago I aggravated an old back injury. I was in some serious pain. Just standing up straight hurt, lying in bed was painful and tying my shoes was out of the question. My doctor referred me to Performance Plus Physical Therapy. I was cautiously optimistic. I had been to physical therapy before when I originally injured my back. In my past experience, I had found myself in a mill of some sorts repeating the same circuit and exercises in the same order as the other patients around me and my visits were always the same = boring. I was in so much pain that I was willing to give it another go... and boy, am I sure glad I did. First off, my schedule is quite difficult; Vivian was able to get me in at a consistent time which works with my schedule. Me even knowing her name is a testament to how personable she is because I've always been bad with names; but I can remember hers. I walked in for the first time and right away I could tell this place was different. It was wide open, bright and the patients there didn't look bored, they were smiling and looked interested in what they were doing (and everyone was doing completely different exercises and stretches on specific body parts... no mill here). Dr. Sparks and every single person I have encountered there make it apparent that my recovery is important to them and they reinforce that consistently in all they do with things such as taking the time to remember my name. I'm writing this review because as I finished up my physical therapy appointment today, I remembered the pain I was in when I first came through their door. That pain is now a distant memory. Dr. Todd is the consummate professional with an exceptional bedside manner, highly knowledgeable, and exceedingly competent at his craft. My experience with physical therapy began approximately 4 years years ago. Following a car accident from which I developed upper back and neck pain, namely trigger points, I was referred to San Diego Sports Medicine Physical Therapy. My experience there did not impress me. I felt like a number, was given a sheet of paper with a bunch of exercises to follow. When I walked out, I didn't feel like I wanted to come back. "If this is what physical therapy is like, I don't think I want to do this. I'll just do my own thing", I thought. I shared my experience with a relative who happened to be a patient of Dr. Todd's. She spoke very highly of his quality of care and practice in general. She recommended I call to make an appointment. I'm so glad I did! It's now been approximately two and a half years on and off under Dr. Todd's care for a series of issues: trigger points, De Quervain Syndrome and sciatic pain. In each of these respects, Dr. Todd has done careful assessments and then moved on to offering a treatment plan that has included a combination of stretching, manipulation, massage, heat and electrical stimulation. And it doesn't end there. As I came to realize, wellness depends on continuing the care at home. To this end, Dr. Todd offers practical (and realistic) stretches and/or exercises to carry out on one's own time. Among Dr. Todd's advanced credentials, he is a certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. In other words, he does "adjustments" whenever needed. Getting adjusted has come to be an added benefit to the care he provides. Under Dr. Todd's care, I have recovered full range of motion and my pain has diminished greatly. I have learned more about my symptoms and the sources of my pain. More importantly, I know what to do at home to manage my wellness. He has mild Cerebral Palsy that is reflected in constant tightness in one of his legs (hyper-tonic). He has been under physical therapy care with county services for the last 3-4 years. We broached the topic with Dr. Todd and he recommended one of his staff, Dr. Jenny Santamaria. He said Dr. Jenny has a concentration in pediatric physical therapy. I continued to see him for therapy after my surgery for a cervical spine fusion. He helped me recover and get back to work with the exercises he taught me. I have had peripheral neuropathy for the past four years. My neurologist gave me drugs and no hope; however, I decided (against his advice) to try physical therapy. It helped some three years ago, but then my insurance plan ran out so I had to stop going. About four months ago I started going to PT for my back and that's when I met Todd Sparks. He helped me immensely with my back, so I decided to see if there was something he could do about my feet (where the neuropathy manifests itself). My insurance re-approved PT for my neuropathy and my improvement is has been incredible. I could not walk barefoot prior to starting PT with Todd. I have issues with neck pain and have seen many PTs and had many massages, but Todd is the only one that has helped me to be pain free. I drive a very long distance to see him and it's worth every mile. I only need to see him when my neck acts up about once a year and after one treatment from Todd I am pain free and it lasts! He really knows his stuff and I always tell him that he has magic hands because he can go right to the painful spots in my neck and get them calmed down.
