The Lakeside Market is held in the Wellington Town Center on Thursday nights from the beginning of…read moreSeptember until the end of May. It is held in conjunction with the weekly food truck and music series for even more fun with food, shopping, and entertainment. Every week there are over 40 vendors selling homemade Italian ice, conch salad, alcohol, alfajores, raw honey, jewelry, candles, fresh squeezed lemonade, fruit popsicles, jerky, weight loss help, vision and dental services, baked goods, 3D printed toys, gelato, and more. Wellington Town Center is very nicely maintained. They had a country music tribute band and the lawn in front of the Wellington Amphitheater was perfectly manicured and the ideal place to sit if you brought a lawn chair but you could hear the music from pretty much anywhere. Kids can safely play at the adjacent Scott's Place Playground which is fenced and was being monitored by city employees. This is the area where you can also find the restrooms. Between the food tents and trucks there was just about anything you could want to eat and the shopping vendors had interesting and unique items. If there is one drawback to this event it would be that finding a parking space can sometimes be difficult. Don't even think about parking in the shopping plaza next door. Once you get your parking spot, this is a fabulous event.

And the way I learned about it was from a Yelp review. When we entered, the gentleman was making a Turkish coffee for someone who had stopped by and putting out pastries in the case up front. We learned from him later that the various "delights" are made at a Turkish bakery in Miami. We browsed the aisles. In one of the refrigerated cases, we saw taramosalata (fish eggs/roe caviar dip), but the use by date was a bit short for us to use up the jar size in time. Maybe next time. Lots of dried fruits -- the dried medjool dates appealed -- along with canned goods from various cultures. A whole section of spices. Candies. Snacks. Drinks. Syrups. Nuts. Condiments. Olives. Canned/tinned fishes. etc. etc. Plus, fresh halal meat. We even got a sample of a small cube of pomegranate and cashew nut Turkish delight. This dessert features a layer of "gel" that binds everything together. The dessert is traditional -- it's been around for centuries -- but the creative ingredient combinations are more modern. In the case by the cash register, were various pastries including baklava -- regular size and minis; kunefe -- three types; Turkish delights with all varieties of nuts, coconut, and fruit/other flavors; to more recognizable desserts like a chocolate eclair filled with hazelnut paste (nutella). And machines to make different types of coffees. We wound up buying some Turkish honey with a chunk of honeycomb inside and some pastries -- mini baklava for me and some kunefe with pistachios for him. I'm sure we'll return when next in the area.

More than I would totally pay for some of our recent dinners. We've been to their Boca location. And the design of their restaurants are white and bright and airy, but have no sound dampening elements. Here, too, it's excruciatingly loud. Voices carry and everyone is trying to speak over everyone else to hear and attempt a conversation. Is this to keep folks from lingering? I ordered an avocado smash and my husband ordered the New Yorker. You order and pay at the counter and they give you a numbered block of wood to put on your table. This is not a fast food restaurant. They brought my husband's coffee first -- but it was cold. When he told the server about it, she said they couldn't heat it; that they'd have to remake it. When it was returned, the guy said he'd heated it! But at least it was warm and now had steamed milk -- closer to the cafe con leche he'd wanted. They delivered my food plate. And the gal walked away with my husband's food. Walked around the room and then back to the counter. We watched her do this. I walked up to the counter where she was standing and holding his plate and asked to get his food! She said she'd gotten confused. I'd added smoked salmon to the avocado toast. The toast was very pretty to look at. There were watermelon radishes and thinly sliced cucumbers on top of the smashed avocado. On top was a generous portion of smoked salmon. No cilantro as on the menu, but a dash of everything seasoning. The base was a toasted piece of sourdough bread. My husband's New Yorker had scallion cream cheese topped with sliced tomatoes, smoked salmon topped with pickled red onions and sprouts. The base was toasted sourdough bread. He said it was very good once he got it! I'm glad we tried them. Now we know.
