So I swore off SOF and went over to Thriftys. Now I'd always thought Thriftys was much more expensive, but it's really not that much depending what you buy. And the quality... well, there's no comparison. You do get what you pay for. This Thriftys has very friendly staff who all recognize me and always say hi. I buy a lot of fresh veg and bananas, and the produce is excellent albeit a little higher priced. But I'll pay a little more for consistency which saves me time going to another store. I've also always had very positive interaction asking if they have more/bigger in the back. Well stocked shelves, very clean store, lovely bakery, nice variety (especially considering it's a smaller store), nice atmosphere, and great floral department. Some good snack and lunch ideas in the deli department. The store may be small but they almost always have what I want and more. One stop shopping 99.9% of the time. Their customer service is excellent. I also want to mention one specific experience. I'm a local shop keep and my two door freezer went down one day. I went over to Thriftys and asked if there was any chance I might be able to store some inventory in their freezer for a day or two til mine got fixed. One of the owners said they didn't really have the space (like I said, it's small store), but then he looked at me and said, "You know what? We'll make the space for you." I was so grateful. Turns out I didn't need to take him up on it after all, but his willingness to help me out really carried a long way. Life long customer right here! Check em out!

I told the person at the checkout, who happened to be the store manager, that the price was $2.99. He told me that I was wrong, it was a different kind. I politely said let's go look and he said, no, that he would give it to me for $2.99. I said no, let's go check the price and he refused. As I was paying he said sarcastically, "Let's get you home before you starve to death." Wow! What a nasty, nasty person. After paying, he checked the price and it was in fact on sale for $2.99. No apology. I mentioned to him the Scanner Price Accuracy Code and that products are free if scanned in at the wrong price. He stated that that is an old law that hasn't been in effect for ages. The Scanner Price Accuracy Code is in fact a very much existing Canadian retail policy ensuring that if a non-price-ticketed item scans at the cash register for a price higher than displayed on the shelf, you get the item free if it is worth $10 or less, or a $10 discount if it is worth more than $10. Apparently Jarry's has elected not to participate in this policy. Regardless, the abject rudeness of the manager blows my mind. His attitude and rude comments were totally uncalled for. I am no longer a Jarry's customer and neither is my adult son who was with me.

Their delivery person is also really nice, which can change, but is a nice bonus. I'd say their website user interface needs some help, as things go missing in my cart without notification, but that's a minor nit to pick. The best aspect of this company is their customer service. They are very considerate of their customers - I once ordered some chips and was given a small discount after purchase because of the short shelf life. We went on the second day after grand opening and the place was super packed. We have noticed they had a lot of Indian specialty items. The isles are very wide. Prices were definitely cheaper. There is a giant parking lot out front. Another great thing about Freshco is that they are beside the bus loop. Super convenient. We are happy this place opened up. The store before Freshco was Safeway (they closed down a year ago). The lot was left empty for awhile before Freshco popped up.
