3.5 out of 5 overall
Don't get me wrong.
Pepper Boxing is a great place for someone who wants to change up their workout routine and get challenge.
For someone like me who originally gave it a 5 out of 5, I've been thinking about this review for a really long time and decided to finally give it a lower rating after much consideration.
Here are my thoughts and reasons.
When I originally joined, the grand opening membership for the year was at $119. In my mind, I thought it was $119 for the entire year. I signed, didn't think. After going in for a few more sessions, I talked to others who felt they've been duped like me. I never got a written contract and asked them to print for me. Yep, my fault. Shame on me.
However, I decided to suck it up cause I DO like the classes. I even went and bought boxing shoes, like really? Yep, I sure did. I started to go to class 5 times a week. It's close to my job so I could do this!
But...you get charge for taxes too. That's never happened to me. Mind you, I was a member of a kickboxing gym (the best workout I've ever had!) for like 3 years - I paid a lot less than $100, went 3 times a week, they never charged me anymore than that price, no hidden charges, no taxes. It's just out of my way so I am no longer a member there. With where I live and where I work, I was trying to find something similar with times and dates availability.
Honestly, Pepper Boxing has THE BEST time and dates for workouts! I gotta give them that. So many choices!
So not only did I have my own boxing shoes, I already had my own boxing gloves and wraps. Pepper Boxing is great for providing instant wraps and gloves to use. A few times, I did forget my wraps and trust me, you want to get your own!! I do not like the instant wraps and doesn't give you as much support as having your own wraps! My hands were itchy afterwards and to me, it smell. I'm particular with smells. I learned to wrap my hands over the years cause of kickboxing and show up early to class for that reason since.
After a few months, I got a little bored. Mainly cause I know the format. Beginning, show everyone (cause it's only fair to show to newbies too), the basic boxing moves, boxing, weights or non boxing, back to boxing, cool down. No stretching at all.
Some instructors are better than others and much more outgoing. After a year and with COVID coming in the formula, I decided to cancel my membership. Although I was still getting charged during the time it was close, I was fine with it, I get it. Whatever. It is what it is. I support small businesses.
A few instructors who I really really liked are no longer teaching at Pepper Boxing who I've grown to have a relationship with. That really disappointed me. I couldn't take it anymore and pay the price I've been paying anymore. Therefore, I finally decided to cancel.
They didn't give me a hard time or anything. They did ask if I wanted to just put a hold on my account. I said no. I don't live close by and my workplace hasn't open yet.
These are just my constructive criticism. I'm just being honest.
