The location of…read morethis restaurant is very convenient if you're in the Polanco neighborhood, which was why we chose it (sheer laziness), but it turned out to be a great choice overall. Cambalache is an Argentine steakhouse, which is reflected in the style of grilling their meats (over an open flame, which can be viewed at the back of the restaurant), and the service of the meat itself (a La plancha, at the table). We chose the ribeye (600-700g) to share. It was perfectly cooked to medium temperature, and sliced for us tableside. A beautiful cut of meat, and very flavorful. The side dishes were tasty, too (the soufflé potatoes are a signature, and they're fun to try/share). Speaking of tableside prep, I highly recommend saving room for the strawberries Romanoff - our server spent about 20 minutes whipping a combination of vanilla Haagen Dazs, Grand Marnier, cream, and fresh-sliced strawberries into a fluffy concoction that was divinely yummy. Our youngest diner insisted on coming back to Cambalache a second time, a week later, just to have it again. It's not on the regular postre menu, so be sure to ask your server about it.

There is a tip box attached to the wall on the left of the doors. The milansa chicken was a big portion and it looked great. The beef was tender and flavorful. I did not have any chicken from the grill and I'm not a big fan of the sausages. It was still good. The service was great but the staff does not speak much English per one of the Google reviews I saw when searching for an Argentinian cuisine. Prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get and the bread basket was great. The restaurant pretty emptied when we came at 7:30pm for our reservation but it slowly filled up. I like that they have a children's menu and that the menu was dual language. The online menu was easier to follow than the physical menu.

We chose to sit in the outdoor seating area unfortunately we were bit by mosquitoes. Our waiter was very professional and attentive. They had excellent wine selection as well as alcoholic beverages. There was only two of us, but yet we still chose to go with the grilled meats options, which comes with five variety of cuts. Rib meat, filet mignon, sirloin, and flank steak. Our waiter warned us that that will be too much food, but we insisted and he was absolutely right. We also ordered a baked potato and a cream spinach. Cream spinach is the style in which the spinach leaves are left in tact as opposed to someplace in the US where the spinach is finely chopped. The meat was served over a hot charcoal grill that was brought to our table. If you choose to keep the meat warm or cook it further you can because the grill is hot enough to cook on it. My favorite meat turned out to be the rib meat as it is more fatty, and it was well salted. Filet mignon was good and lean as it should be. None of the meat were marinated. I believe the only marinade used was salt pepper in some garlic. they also asked us if we wanted to get local Mexican meat or import meat. After inquiry, I discovered that import means US imported meat. We chose the local meet and it was perfect .

The braised octopus was tender, grilled shrimp were fresh and the boneless ribeye also very tender, juicy and grilled to medium rare perfection. Service was impeccable, doting, and a textbook lesson to almost every other restaurant extant (especially Per Se Time Warner Center). The servers were invisible, but miraculously appeared when you needed something. They even changed out the cooling cast iron plate with a hot replacement. Atmosphere was quiet, with a tropical forest terrace and smoking section. Very refined and elegant. We enjoyed 4 hours here eating and chatting. The room was not full, and no one rushed us whatsoever, unbelievable. Totally spoiled now

I wanted to write this review as a warning to future visitors. This place is a "tourist trap." I…read moresay this because it has really inflated ratings on TripAdvisor and Open Table. I also agree with the last review, that it is a sister company with the restaurants next door, as the drink menus were identical. Sylvestre is beautifully set up decor wise and the service is wonderful. Unfortunately, the food is not on par. The tacos were bathed in a puddle of grease. The shrimp was cold and wasn't as fresh as the other food we had in Mexico City. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were cooked in a stick of butter. I wish the quality of the food matched such a beautiful environment.

Being shut down in Mexico can have a plethora of reasons that aren't actually associated with food quality or cleanliness. So when it does open again, please visit it! Because I sincerely doubt hygiene had anything to do with it's current legal situation. :. This place is a lovely Argentinian restaurant that specializes in great steak! If you can, I think sitting near the window is the best place to be, as it's usually quieter and a bit more romantic (ie. candles, softly whispering couples). They have both English and Spanish menus which are usually written on large boards that they bring to your table. This place is certainly a bit more creative and fun in their presentation of food and set up. All meals come with in-house baked bread with rosemary and a couple of oils to dip in. As you would expect for the Polanco, the quality of the food and selection of wines/tequilas are good, and the service is generally pretty decent. I would definitely recommend keeping to the steaks and salads at this place. I found that most of the pastas are fairly good quality but sometimes can land on a bit on the dull side of things. That being said, the desserts are superb and I really enjoyed going to this place. [ TIP: However you normally like your steak, in Mexico ask for it to be cooked one level more e.g. if you like 'rare', ask for 'medium rare', or even 'medium' if they don't know what 'medium rare' is, as 'rare' will come 'blue'. This only applies in Mexico City. In the cities/locations where a lot of American and Canadian tourists can be found, then you order as you would in Canada/America.]

I conducted my search, finding a few places online trying to locate a good spot in a city I've never visited. Gardela stood out immediately because of their communication, kindness, and dedication to making this event extra special for him and his friends. They truly created and planned the perfect event for the group and I truly could not be more grateful. Onto the food (their honest reviews)! They said it was a 11/10 dining experience overall. The food was incredible and amazing and these are some food critics traveling from major foodie cities. They planned a beautiful menu with Chicken Tortilla Soup, a variety of Empanadas, Picaña Steak and Skirt Steak, and Peasant Salad and Fries as sides. They said the soup was super delicious and flavorful. They said the steak was absolutely phenomenal and tender, it was very high quality meat. Also the salad really stood out as it was super fresh and crisp. Then they plated a beautiful dessert assortment as well as well as special happy birthday and bachelor messages to make the celebration extra special. The cocktails were also super delicious as well. They left the meal with their hearts and bellies very full. From everything, from the planning, to the the presentation of food, the service, and food quality, the team at Gardela went above and beyond. I really could not have picked a better place and now I am jealous because I need to go try some of the steaks because they had my mouth watering! Overall, I would highly recommend going to this restaurant. They said they were seated in a private room too so it made the experience even more special. My sincerest thank you to the entire team at Gardela for making this event unforgettable!

The first night we focused on the steaks and they were absolutely delicious. Great quality meat, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. The next night we came back and tried the pizza, which had a very authentic South American flavor and was just as enjoyable in a completely different way. The brisket tacos were also really good! Service was very good throughout, friendly, attentive, and professional without being overbearing. The wine list is extensive and impressive, with lots of excellent options from Argentina and Chile that pair perfectly with the food. Prices were very reasonable for the quality. Reservations are highly recommended because the restaurant gets busy. Another plus is the location, it is within walking distance of many hotels, including the Four Points by Sheraton. Excellent spot and absolutely worth repeating, clearly proven by the fact that we did.
