Walked around Krems looking dinner after a long (100 km) day cycling. Needed protein and…read morevegetables. Schmid's did not disappoint. The huftsteak (which I learned was rump steak) was a satisfying 220 gm and cooked exactly to my specification. I added a pepper sauce and a delicious side of grilled mixed veggies. It was all quite delicious. Schmid's has an extensive beer menu with 7 on tap and a comprehensive range of 80!bottled beers and ciders. In addition, a large number of wines are available. Service was very friendly (staff were fluent with English) and the establishment has an atmosphere that would not be out of place in any university town with touches of corrugated iron and rough sawn (but properly finished) timber and engaging background music. Should I return to Krems am Donau, I'll be coming back to Schmid's for sure.

My wife had the lasagna and said it is the best she'd ever had, and I had the Torino (meat lover's) pizza which was very good. We sat in the courtyard and the atmosphere was wonderful...my wife said the experience was like something out of a Hallmark movie. (Yes, that's high praise.) The service was excellent and the server had good recommendations. It was one of the most memorable events of our trip.

Convenient and good…read more Today our tourist travels took us to Melk to visit the Abby. The Abby visit was very interesting, starting on how to get to the Abby. We took the steep path, I suspect any path was steep. We also had an English guided tour through the Abby, which was well worth the small charge. When we finished we were hungry, and felt a little pressed for time as we soon had a boat to catch. Melk is a charming village with many places to eat and shop. We finally selected Kamillo Pizzeria and sat outside on this cool overcast day. A trick we have already learned is to ask for an English menu, which they provided. That makes things so much easier for us. They offer mainly Italian including pizza, and Greek items, but what caught my eye was their Chicken Cordon Bleu. It took less than 10 minutes to arrive at our table. The breaded chicken was moist and delicious and came with thin cut fries, my favorite style. I was quite pleased with the food and the service, our server being a friendlier sort than what we have experienced thus far in Vienna. We finished and settled in enough time to make our boat, and our enjoyable day continued.
