DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE SCAMMERS -- WORST EXPERIENCE EVER (Pep Boys) I had one of the most stressful and dishonest service experiences of my life at Pep Boys, and I'm writing this so other people don't get trapped the way I did. I found Pep Boys online, but their website didn't allow me to add only TWO tries to my shopping cart for my 4WD vehicle. So I found the phone number listed on Google Maps for the nearest location. I called with only one purpose: to find out if they could replace only TWO tires on a 4WD vehicle. A person with an Indian accent answered and said yes, and then asked for my vehicle details and tire size. I gave everything clearly. He offered a good price and said he would email me the quote. The email didn't arrive right away, so he said he'd resend it. What I received was a duplicated email that contained ONLY the tire name and the cost of replacing two of them -- no vehicle info, no tire size, no details about who provided the quote. When I arrived for my appointment, I again confirmed that I was replacing TWO REAR TIRES ONLY. They took my keys and told me it would take about 1.5 hours. About an hour later, I walked near the bays and saw they had removed ALL FOUR WHEELS from my car. I asked why, and they said they had an order for replacing all four. Then the manager comes out and tells me I have two separate orders, each for two tires, and if I only want one order, I must pay a $30 restocking fee to cancel the second one. I disagreed and explained that this was a clear mistake by their person answering the phone. The manager refused to listen, he kept repeating that it was my fault because I placed two orders and therefore had to pay, and then he simply left. It gets worse: I looked at the tires they were trying to install and they were the WRONG SIZE. The manager admitted they didn't even have the correct size in stock -- and then tried to charge me a restocking fee for FOUR TIRES, now claiming it would be 20% (~$150). He blamed me for their own mistakes. When I asked them to find the person I spoke to or pull the call recording, he said he "can't help" and told me to complain to corporate. The only "help" offered was reducing the fee to about 10% (~$75). In the end, to get my keys back and leave, I was forced to pay $83. They STOLE my TIME, MONEY, and PEACE OF MIND. I later found out that the phone number listed on Google Maps is being forwarded overseas. This means you wo NOT be talking to the local shop at all, but to someone in India who has no idea what they're doing. Meanwhile, the store refuses to take any responsibility for what's happening. This is either gross incompetence or an intentional bait-and-fee setup. Either way: AVOID Pep Boys!!! read more

I purchased a Battery nine months ago from the Pep Boys location on Forest Avenue location last November with a three year warranty. The battery has failed twice since, once in an abandoned parking lot. I returned the Battery one week ago and was told that Pep Boys only refunds by check and that I could not receive I refund on the spot. Most of the people I have spoken to in their corporate customer service dept are either not helpful or complete idiots. Their Battery testing is a complete sham as my mechanic verified that the Pep Boys battery was no good. Made an appt for an oil change and tire rotation. 2 1/2 hours later it was finally completed for $122. I was assured all fluids would be filled as well. As I left, I noticed the low washer fluid light was still illuminated. I drove back and was told the filling of fluids was a courtesy and that they did not have any washer fluid. Zero (or negative) stars, if possible! Horrible place to get your car repaired (Pep Boys Staten Island/ Forest Ave). They will lie to you & deny culpability. I went there for a TPMS repair, and after many trips back forth, they had to refund my initial installation, but they couldn't get it to work. This is where the headache begins. While doing the TPMS repair, they said I had a broken axle (front passenger side) & couldn't drive it. The next day after the axle replacement, I see a pool of oil on the floor of my garage by the front passenger wheel side. I brought it back to Pep Boys Forest Ave. They claim they didn't touch the transmission & and it is not their problem. Isn't the axle connected to the transmission? I brought it to another Pep Boys location, and an independent transmission specialist. They both said it was leaking due to an incorrect axle installed (installed a FWD axle instead of AWD axle). I returned to the PBFA. After many trip back, they finally sent it out to a contract transmission specialist. I told the store manager, Alfred. He says they know what they are doing, apparently not. Then, later admitted they screw up the transmission gear box. They sent the car to transmission specialist to rebuild the transmission gear box that Pep Boys say is leaking. After a few months after the rebuilt transmission, it started leaking again. Upon closer inspection by the contractor transmission, it was determined that the incorrect axle was the culprit. Both transmission guys & the other PB mechanic spoke to Alfred, the store manager. He still refused to admit that his staff put in the wrong one and now refuses to replace the correct one. Now that he put in a claim for the transmission rebuild, he is denying all responsibilities for correcting his own mistakes. Manager could have replace the incorrect part instead of subjecting the store a pricey transmission fix. If you have time, money & every to waste, come to this location, otherwise AVOID THIS LOCATION AT ALL COST. read more

Went in because my car needed a new battery. Tried to convince me I needed a new alternator for 1200 dollars when I knew this was not the case. Refused to replace my battery unless I replaced the alternator because it wasn't putting out enough volts apparently. Immediately left and went to a place I trust and they told me my alternator was fine and even showed me the reading on it and just replaced my battery and went on my merry way. I only gave them 1 star because no stars aren't an option. For starters, they lied to me about my tires being given to someone else just to trick me into paying more money for a bigger tire. They said the tire is ok for my car but I brought it to Honda to 100% make sure and they told me it's way too big. I needed a 185/55r16 and they ended up giving me a 195/50r16 and I drive a small hatchback. I called back and we resolved the issue by ordering the right size tire. I get a call the following day from a service guy and he stated the tires I originally wanted were there and that they weren't given to someone else, they were just delayed in transit ... I bought a battery for my car in Aug of 2017 . I bought the better Bosch battery that Pep Boys carried. The battery had free replacement up to 36 months and prorated up to 96 months. I had my receipt to keep the warranty. Now I expected to pay something because the battery was 2 weeks past the day I bought it 3 years prior. The battery started leaking it ruined my pavers in my driveway and the battery tray which is inside the the front fender in my car. I paid $121 plus tax in 2017. In order to exchange for a new battery they wanted an additional $66 and the manager which I had a few bad dealings with in the past tells me I would no longer have a warranty on the new battery. This is the third time that I had dealings with the Pep Boys on Staten Island and the third time this manager got involved and was unprofessional and seemed to make up her own rules as she went along. Pep Boys on Staten Island not recommended by me. I have been working in the auto industry for 33 years. She told me that if the battery was 4 or 5 years old it would still cost $66. Requested $60 electrical diagnosis. Suspect windshield wiper motor break. Took 2.5 hours because they went on lunch break midway through and didn't bother to tell me to come another time when I was making the appointment. If that wasn't bad enough they either lied or completely got the diagnosis wrong. They didn't mention my pre-collision system being out at all even though they did a "full analysis", and they told me that indeed the motor was broken and gave me a quote of $1000 to fix it. Well I bought the damn part for $70 elsewhere and went to my car dealership to install it because they beat the pep boys labor price, $230 altogether with the $70 part. Mind you this is 77% lower cost than what I was being charged for labor and parts at pep boys. Turns out the motor wasn't even broken and just a few loose screws! Nice job pep boys, got robbed of valuable time and money so neither myself nor anybody I know will be coming back to this location. read more

I went because my left front tire driver side had a slow leak and as well I needed new tires. I ordered.tites cost over 500$ for Honda Accord. They did the rotation but 2 days later my car is showing signs of tire pressure. This is after I ordered 2 new tires and they weren't installed until about a week later not all their fault but they could not accommodate me even after having already paid for my tires. I went in one day about a month ago because my car turned off while driving. Went in on a Thursday early afternoon was told they could have it done by 5pm so I could make it to work. I ended up getting a call that night around 7 telling me to come get my car before they closed. So I drive the car for about 2 weeks and the same situation happens. So now it's about a month later and I bring the car back today and explain to the same 2 guys who took my car in the first time. It's 11am today when I bring the car in and I told them I needed to be at work by 5. I explained that the car is fine in park but after driving for a bit it shuts off. I wait until 6 to head to the store for someone else to tell me that they couldn't find anything wrong and they have had the car running for a bit. I'm pissed and decided to ask if they drove it to see and the answer was no they just ran it. And now after having the car 6 hours today I have to drop it off again tomorrow. I asked several times if they would be on schedule because my car had not been moved from the parking lot I was told yes.
