I had such a bad experience here... the start of my car nightmare. Came in for an AC check. They told me the AC was the least of my worries - that I need a new radiator hose & tires. So I replaced the hose. Next day my car starts SMOKING. Turns out they didn't pressure test the system - burned out my radiator. They ended up replacing the radiator but didn't do it correctly because now my car is signaling overheating (it wasn't doing this before). Basically I walked in with a simple issue and now I'm chasing my tail trying to get their mistakes fixed. They ruined my car. I went in recently for what ended up being new brakes -- expensive but it was needed and that's fine. I didn't know it was new brakes so I assume they did some sort of diagnostic. Mind you, ALL I needed was new brakes. I picked my car up the next day and the check engine light was on. They gave me recommendations for additional work and that was that, and when things would need to be replaced. That same day, my check engine light was on and there was a terrible noise coming from my car. I called them THAT DAY but I was headed out of the country that night so I couldn't take my car back until I was back in the US. Flash forward to today and I take it back. I have barely driven since service. They are telling me it is not safe to drive because there is something wrong with the engine, which was NOT the case before service was rendered by them. They said there was smoke coming from engine. Well, I'm confused. Because this wasn't an issue before. I wasn't experiencing this as an issue and this was not in the diagnostic they provided 2 weeks ago. I now have an undrivable car and a costly fix thanks to shoddy work, which I suspected when I picked up the vehicle. They proceeded to hold my car for 2 hours, and then called me at 10:30 to say that the mechanic who can work on my car called in sick and I'd have to come back the next day. I tell the associate on the phone that I need it done today, and to call one of their neighboring stores to see who can take me. After hanging up, the associate calls me back less than a minute later and says that Clairemont can take me. So I come in to pick up my car and I ask for the address of the store and he says "yeah, let me Google it for you." DON'T SERVICE YOUR CAR HERE. Unfortunately, this isn't the first time I've received bad service, specifically from this location. I went in for an oil change and a break inspection. Spent a little more than I expected but I knew there were some issues with my breaks so it is what it is. They do what they needed to do and I went to get my vehicle when it was finished. I drive home which is only about a 4 min drive away and it's smoking like crazy under the hood of my car. When I check what's wrong, whoever changed my oil spilled tons of it all over my engine and everywhere else making it smoke and stink. I called and they did offer to clean it up for me but my dad came to the rescue instead. It's frustrating when you spend 500$+ on servicing your vehicle just to be left anxious at what else they could've possibly done wrong to your vehicle. Mistakes happen. But when they're not owned up to and corrected immediately is where laziness and negligence comes into play and I don't want someone like that working on my car. This place is a joke. I called on Wed, March 12th to set up an appt for a Flexdrive inspection because their website was not allowing me to make one, the site said to call the location. The man I spoke with said, "Just bring it in." I didn't get there that day and instead made it over the following day. They took the keys and I patiently sat with a book. 1.5 hours had gone by, no word, I'm noticing the guy at the counter disappearing the reappearing and playing around on his phone. I was really needing to be somewhere with my afternoon, so I inquired at the counter what the status of the vehicle was. They said, "Oh they finished that already" and pulled the file from the wall that had been sitting there. Well 2 weeks have gone by and I've been receiving constant notifications from Lyft that my vehicle inspection has not been completed. I decided to call Pep Boys to confirm the inspection was complete and for them to resubmit the paperwork, because honestly, this same scenario happened a year ago. Except this time, they asked me to bring the car in again so they can check. I live 30 min east and because someone's negligence, I have to be inconvenienced to drive back to your location just for you to check if the paperwork has been completed? After 15 years I decided to change from my regular tire company (American Tire Depot on Adams) to Pep Boys because they were offering a better deal for 4 tires. So in August 2025, I came to Pep Boys to get 4 new tires for my car. After promises & guaranties of service by Pep Boys, I purchased their tires for a total bill of $745.00. Everything was fine until I got a flat tire yesterday afternoon. I had the spare tire installed to go back home. This morning I came to the Pep Boys store, where I bought my tires originally, to have the tire repaired (1 nail). I told them that my tire to be fixed was in the trunk of my car and that I will be back tonight or tomorrow morning for Pep Boys to install on my car the repaired tire by removing the spare tire. The lady at the counter, after calling someone to verify, informed me that if i didn't leave the car they will repair the tire but will not be able to re-install the repaired tire on the car. I explained to them that I needed the car and since the damaged tire was in the trunk they didn't need to keep the car. I asked her to repeat her statement and to explain to me the logic behind because I was not understanding the company reasoning. She repeated the same illogical statement. Service is really not there and don't be fool by the price because when you will need a service, you cannot count on this company. I am going back to my old tire company... We purchased my car from a used dealership & with it came a 5 year maintenance plan through Pep Boys. I stopped by on a busy day, with no appointment for an oil change & fixing a vent for my AC that was not working. The service at the front desk was incredibly fast & the mechanics were realistic with me regarding the amount of time it would take to complete the job. Altogether the service took about 4-5 hours from the time I dropped off my car until I picked it up. I had an oil change & the vent for my AC was repaired. Throughout my appointment I was able to check the app/website regarding my appointment: when they got me logged into the system, while my car was waiting to be assigned to a mechanic, once it was assigned to the mechanic I could see their name, followed by a full assessment of recommendations of repairs I may need soon. This part was really helpful, & made me feel like I was apart of the process. On top of it all, the mechanics called me to give me an update & when to expect to pick up my vehicle. Very great service all the way around. Pulling into this place can be a little tricky because it's on the corner of a really busy street. Took my car in for an oil change and tire rotation. They said during a free inspection they'd found I needed all new tires, brakes, and rotors. Getting a 2nd opinion a couple weeks later, the second mechanic found I only needed new tires; the brakes and rotors still had at least a year in them. I understand upselling but wow. During that second opinion visit, we discovered the oil had been leaking, presumably from the line or engine block as pep boys didn't mention anything off during the oil change? I got more oil to put in as a temporary fix until I could get it serviced somewhere with the right equipment to lift the car and fully inspect it. The next mechanic described the oil leaking as the oil plug not being properly secured during the last oil change (at Pep Boys). He secured the plug, no further leaking. He didn't charge me as he felt bad. I hadn't had the time to quickly get these checks done, about 6 weeks elapsed with all 3 appointments. I emailed everything to customer service for a refund - Pep Boys' negligence caused an oil leak- why wouldn't I want my money back?? Emily from this location calls me saying they checked the cameras and the 3rd mechanic, who identified Pep Boys' negligence, must've tampered with the oil plug so I won't be getting a refund....... right, right. I got there and before I could enter the store, I thought the service was going to be great because I was stopped and told I could get help. We walk to my Tesla and he tells me that my tires are all flat. (My car said they were all at 41 PSI), Tesla recommendation. He begins to quiz me about how much motors I have, my model, etc. (this is where I know the game, he wants to see my knowledge of cars). Then he gets a measuring tool for my brand new tires and claims I need 4 tires or at the very least 2. Keep in mind, I'm only there for a screw that I ran over somehow, and he refused to plug my tire and made this big story about how Tesla tires need special service. I could have gone in and told the manager, but I no longer wanted my car there. I didn't trust that man next to my tire at all, though I probably could have turned on the cameras to record what they do to my car for an easy lawsuit bc I'm sure he would have done some grimy stuff by the way he was acting. I went here for a Flexdrive vehicle inspection on Tuesday and was told the only person that could do them went home sick. I should come back tomorrow. I come back Wednesday morning first thing and the guy at the front Gio tells me they only do these inspections through Wednesday - Friday. I contact Lyft to confirm this and they tell me that's not accurate. If your one guy that does the inspections isn't there just say that. If you're not going to do these inspections you shouldn't have a contract with Lyft/Flexdrive. I call a Firestone and get an appointment for the same day. I really needed new tires and had an employee at another tire shop basically yell at me and try to scare me into a purchase. I was told about the 2 for 2 deal with pep boys and decided I couldn't pass it up. Emily was absolutely the best! They couldn't find my tires and she spent 30mins tracking them down and was so sweet. Her and Jose were so kind and made me comfortable during a rush of anxiety. The only sad part was it took 3 hours for the completion but my tech was super awesome. Service for what I need was good. However what prevents me from giving them the full 5 stars is the wait. What I had planned on this visit was an oil change and brake check (parking brake). I made an appointment and arrived there before my schedule and when I asked about them checking the parking brake, I was told that the person that uses the equipment to analyze the issue was not there that day. I don't blame them because I should have asked before I made the appointment. This was an off day for me so I scheduled it on this day. What bothered me the most is the waiting time on the Oil change. We all know that there are plenty of short wait Oil Change places in and around San Diego. Notoriously, you see their coupons advertised in Groupon or Living Social or even mailers. My oil change even with my appointment took almost 2 hours. I feel that the way they do the work is by whose car came first, it doesn't matter if there was an appt. And possibly only several or one person does the oil change. It's been several weeks and I have had no issues so as mentioned, Service was great but wait time was not really planned out. Of course I manage to include getting new wiper blades in time before the rains that came this week. Hopefully, they consider making Oil Change service a separate appt from the other Car services since that would make people go there for their Oil Change otherwise, you lose that Customer not willing to stay for a long time waiting. read more

They had a deal online buy three Kumho tires get one free. I called and spoke to Fernando; he confirmed my tire sizes were there and I wanted all four new ones. He honored the online prices as well. I walked into the shop and Fernando helped me with my purchases. I also added a lifetime tire alignment and he gave me a great discount. He was friendly and answered all my questions. They did all tires, free Installation and alignment under 2.5 hours. This location is near a lot of markets, gas station and banks if you're bored and want to walk around while they're servicing your car. They have oil changes and other services as well. Fernando told me the man power for car services are 8-5pm. So I suggest taking it in early. Definitely will return in the future. read more

I waited a month to post this so I could review with a clear mind. I made an appt for an oil change and tire rotation. I have a prepaid service thru Hertz, where I bought the car. When I arrived I presented my coupon and was told that the number they needed to call was on the east coast and closes at 5pm EDT, it was 4pm PDT. They would not be able to call them until the next day. So they told me to come back the next day, they would get me in and out and scheduled an appt for 3pm. I came back the next day at 3pm and wondered how they where going to call the east coast if they all went home at 5pm EDT. They took my car without problem. Before I went to this Pep Boys I noticed a cut in my front right tire side wall. I figured they would say something while rotating the tire. I was ready to buy two new tires but wanted to see if they noticed the tire. Siting in the waiting room for 3 hours they told me my car was done. Looking puzzled I figured they just didn't want the business of 2 new tires. I went out and noticed the tires wre not rotated...even though the invoice said they did. The cut tire was still in the front right side. I went down to Firestone the next day and brought two new tires. Also being petty they didn't put a sticker on my windshield with the mileage on it or reset the oil life sensor. I will not be going back to them except to get my prepaid oil change done. Unfortunately for them I'm a fleet service rep for about 521 vehicles. I have always told my clients to go to Pep Boys...not anymore. Firestone has won me over. Do not go here. For a basic oil change they managed to over-torque the drain plug. I went to a valvoline a couple of months later and they refused me service because they told me they wouldn't be liable for the $700 oil pan. I called this pep boys and went in with the complaint and was told by Luis that, "if you don't have the receipt, you can't prove you came here. Be more responsible and carry the receipt." Obviously they have the records in their computers, and this is just bs. I opened a case with corporate and they're purposely dragging their feet, so I'm forced to 1. Report to BBB and 2. Take legal action. They also called me during the oil change three times to upsell me on an engine flush. Take my advice and avoid this awful pep boys. The reviews speak for themselves. Came in to complete an inspection on my vehicle for work. They asked me for a form I never heard of said I could get it online. I asked if I could print it out there he said printer wasn't working but I hear it printing things left and right. I go home to print out the form and when I return another guy says there are no inspectors on site. I was beside myself I live 7 mins away and told him I just left to come back with this form. He said it would be awhile I asked how is awhile he told me 10-15 mins. Mind you it's 9:00 am no one is in here except 4 employees. 2 of them I spoke with are incompetent. I then asked how long the inspection would take he told me 10-15 - so he takes my keys and goes to my car. I'm in the waiting room now and let's see if my 2017 vehicle passes their inspection just got a new windshield and new tires so I bet they will try and find something else to attempt to hit me with. The guy inspecting my car is the same guy that said they didn't have an inspector on site. He said he couldn't leave the front but left it immediately after our conversation. Doesn't add up, all I can think of is he didn't want to do the inspection and was making excuses for me to go elsewhere. I get it the inspection is only $19.99 probably won't make that much money on me but at least have customer service responses. David was the inspector it was down in 6 mins and Luis was the first guy I spoke with. All they had to say was hold on I'll get my other guy back here in a minute and I'll have your inspection done in no time. I had to get a new battery for my car and was referred to Pep Boys by the gentleman that helped jump my car battery. I called the store and was asked if I wanted the battery service or just the battery. I said, I guess just the battery, and was promptly told they don't do that. (Then why ask that way? lol) Whatever, no big deal. Ok, I will do the service. So I go in and check-in. I let them know I definitely need the battery replaced and asked if they could check if I need the oil changed as well. My service light has been on but I wasn't sure if it was accurate because it has gone off before I needed it before. So I leave the car with them and they tell me it will be 45 minutes to an hour. I head over to the store next door and peruse for about 25 minutes. I head back to the service center to sit and wait in case they want to check-in with me instead of calling me. They never call on me. There was another gal there that had a similar sounding name. He called a name and she jumped up and assumed he called her name. I figured, well surely they will confirm the name and vehicle. Nope, they did not. He reviewed things with her. I couldn't hear everything but it sounded very similar to my services and she didn't say no to anything so I assumed we were having similar things done. New battery, possible oil change. He told her it will be a few minutes and she sat back down. I am thinking ok, it's been over an hour now hopefully they check-in with me because I still haven't heard about the oil change. He tells her he can check her out (pay) and in the process I hear her say "that isn't my email, that's weird." sure enough, it was my email. I went over and asked and he was very flustered because he realized that he had been telling her all the information for my car not hers. So she was confused and frustrated, I am standing there like...so what happened? What did you do to my car? And he just said, "I came in after lunch so I didn't know who was who." ok buddy, that is why you should verify the car information before talking to the person that thought you called their name. So he just moved forward with having me pay for the services (keep in mind they didn't tell me what kind of battery they put in, they didn't tell me whether or not the car needed an oil change they just did it and they did not ask me what kind of oil I wanted put in. But they had me pay for everything they reviewed with SOMEONE ELSE. I am not the type of person to raise a fuss. Misunderstandings happen. But I am annoyed that I didn't get to choose the battery, I didn't get to choose the oil, and no one reviewed the inspection report with me. I will not be returning and will be sure to ask them to verify what name they called next time. Live and learn. UPDATE: I did leave a review as part of their feedback follow up and someone from the team called me two days later and apologized for the mix-up. They offered me a free oil change on my next visit which was very kind. It was a little over an hour, and I peaked out the window and my car looked like it was in the same spot I had parked it in. I went to the front desk, and as I may have suspected- they had not started on my car, but "not to worry- my car was next and it would take another 40 min or so to be complete." Apparently they only had 2 men working in the back and people had to go on their lunch breaks. I understand that but come on, I had a scheduled appt. The gentleman at the service counter said, "you were a walk-in right?". No sir, I had an appt and it's approaching an hour and a half and no one has even started on my car. Where is the communication?!? I understand stuff happens, but I was literally sitting right there in the waiting room. Speak up and let me know you're running behind so I can decide what I want to do with my time!! So at this point; I was offered my keys back if I didn't want to wait another 40 min for the oil change. I said, that sounds like poor customer service, and I asked to speak to the manager. The man comes back after speaking to his manager and hands me my keys, "my manager said for you to take it elsewhere". I literally couldn't believe my eyes and ears!!! I have NEVER had such poor service and disrespect anywhere like this before. I wasn't even acting like a Karen or anything, just appropriately concerned as to why they're waiting my time but damn.... On 12/8/2022 we brought our perfectly operating vehicle into Pep Boys location #810 for a brake replacement and picked it up on 12/9/2022. The next day our car sounded a bit off so we brought it back on 12/12/2022 and they ran a full diagnostic on it and said it needed over $1,600 of repairs. We agreed to the repairs which were: 1) Water pump removal and replacement 2) Thermostat removal and replacement 3) Coolant temp sensor removal and replacement 4) A/C ALT & W/P belt replacement 5) Extended Warranty We got the vehicle back on 12/14/2022. The car was not driven again until 12/22 when we drove it 6 hours to our hometown for Christmas. The next day, it was completely inoperable and undrivable. We dropped the car off at Pep Boys location in Stockton and they did a diagnostic and found the head gasket was blown. Considering we just had the water pump and thermostat replaced we knew they must have either incorrectly installed one of them or installed a faulty one in order for this to happen. After giving us the run around for several days, we filed a complaint to Pep Boys on 1/5/2023 We were then given zero communication until we got an email on 1/12/2023 that a case was opened for this (#23081064606). After again hearing nothing I called and called until the claims processor (Maxine Clarke) finally answered on 1/23/2023 and said they are still in the process of an "investigation" and they would update me "when they have an update" I finally got a call from Maxine on 2/1/2023 saying the investigation was "inconclusive" so they would need ME to pay for a more extensive investigation should I want to continue... They refused to share any form of the investigation so I could verify they checked the water pump/thermostat during this investigation. Pep Boys refuses to do the repairs to make this right, plus I paid $1,600 for my car to not work... I have been without a car for over 6 weeks now with no resolution in sight. read more

Took my car to get a battery change here, they increased the quote by $200 after starting the service which was shady and afterwards my key fobs didn't work with unlocking and locking my Ford I called pep boys and asked if they'd be able to reprogram my keys, as neither of them are able to click unlock/ lock the car after the battery change. The guy on the phone made me feel like the dumbest person ever and told me there's no way that happened and nothing they did to the van would have any affect on the key fobs. He advised both keys "died" on the same day, even though we've had one for 1.5 years and one for 8 months. If it isn't a service they can do that's fine but the way he spoke with me on the phone and was damn near laughing at me, making me feel dumb, pep boys needs to hire better employees. Took the keys to the Ford dealership today and guess what?? They do need to be reprogrammed! Because that's a thing! Extremely disappointed. Made an appointment for a tire rotation and alignment, mind you I purchased my tires here back in 2021. Never had to rotate as I do not use my truck very often. When I go in for my appointment, I was turned away. The service members informed me they would not perform a rotation as it would leave them liable for any accidents... not cool. Called pep boys headquarters and informed of what had happened at the store, customer service representative was rude. I kept it cool and informed I purchased tires and was guaranteed free tire rotation until the life of the tires... again never used my truck enough to rotate until 1.5 years later and was turned away. I asked for a refund in a service never used and/or requested some sort of refund. Basically was told to pound sand. Representative was rude as well. What. a. nightmare. My "service engine soon" light was on in my car so I took it in here. I thought it would be more reliable and easy to go to a chain-- i thought WRONG. They "ran the diagnostic" which .. I never got a copy of? Then called me hours later to tell me that they needed to change the spark plugs but recommended changing the coils. I proceeded to ask if this was necessary to fix my car today and they said it was not. ( it was going to be about $900 total if i were to proceed with changing the coils as well ). Everything was fine until I picked up my car in the exact same condition. Post my nearly $500 payment, Literally nothing was fixed. I don't think they even ran a diagnostic at all. As much as I tried to justify my point of view, they continued to say that there was nothing they could do. What kind of customer service is that.... how can you charge someone $500 and not fix their car. isn't that their job? I called to speak with the manager the next day and he also said there was nothing they could do. i asked if i could go speak with him in person and he said he was leaving right now ( it was 8:30 am and they just opened ). All of these things added up makes me think something really weird and shady is going on at this "establishment". it is so unprofessional to take advantage of your customers, especially financially. are you that broke??? I started a case with corporate but there was also nothing they could do because the employees were claiming that they told me that i needed the coils and that i refused. I wish they recorded their phone calls so they don't have to make up lies. obviously if i needed that to fix the issue, i would have done it. I don't even understand how that kind of rip off can be legal. They acted so weird and like I was dumb and never went to an auto repair before. Thanks for literally nothing, Pep boys. read more

Haven't left a well deserved review for a while! I went in today and both gentlemen at the front desk were super kind and exceeded customer service!!!!!! This was the first great thing about choosing this company, as I have my usual tire company I am loyal too. The gentleman on the AM shift made sure my safety came first. I asked him to fill my tire so I can go to my regular and he let me know my tire was really bad (which it totally was, I've know this for a while) He also recommended an alignment and my car now drives Devine!!!! I understand the purpose of an alignment now, thanks to this gentleman. The guy on the closing shift was so sweet and helpful as well. 10000000000/10 recommend this shop for an overall exceeds satisfaction service! TOTALLY MY NEW TIRE SPOT. read more
