I made an appt through the website for a routinebattery change. The website asked for the make and model of my car, which I provided. I dropped my car off the next day at the scheduled time. The counter person asked if I was going to wait.. I said yes. He then informed me it would take about an hour to an hour and a half so, I left. Per their estimate, my car should have been ready around 1230pm. I called at 3 to see if I could come pick it up. I was informed that my car had not been touched yet and they weren't even sure they'd be able to get to it today. I asked how that was possible when I was quoted a maximum of 1.5 hours? His response "This is my first day working at this location. I don't know how they do things"...He then told me he would try and get the battery changed for me before they closed, as if they were doing me a favor. 2 hours later, at 5pm, they called me again. This time, to inform me that they couldn't figure out how to get the existing battery out of my car and they had 6 people try with no luck. This is a Mercedes GLB. They're a super common car. I went and picked up my keys and drove my car home. An entire day wasted due to their inability to perform insanely routine service on a very common car. It feels like a bad joke. read more

I called yesterday to inquire about a tire replacement. The guy who answered the phone yesterday was professional and helpful. He informed me they had the tire in stock. I said that I need to leave by 8:30 in the morning in order to get to work on time, and he suggested that I get there at 7:45 so that I could be the first one in this morning, I got there at 7:45 and nobody was there despite their business hours being listed as 730. When they finally opened up at 8, I explained to the guy working at the front desk that I needed to be out by 830 in order to get to work on time. He told me that should be no problem. I was one of two cars there at the time. At 8:40 I informed him that I needed to leave 10 minutes ago and was assured this wouldn't be a problem, he told me he couldn't ring me up until the paperwork got put through. At 9 o'clock when I asked why it took an hour to change my one tire , he informed me finally that the technician had been late and that's why my service took so long. Nobody thought to tell me that, when I made it clear, and was assured twice by two different people that my timeframe was not an issue. I wouldn't have minded being told that that couldn't be accommodated, but I was told that it could. As a result, I was a half hour late for work And will not be getting paid for that time. I would have just gone someplace else if I had known that my experience would be like this. I've been to this Pep Boys a few times since I live nearby and I've never had any issues. My wife always takes her vehicle there and it's easy to find a coupon online for the oil changes. I've never gotten any major work done so I can't speak to major repairs. They have a decent waiting area space and I enjoy their report that I received via text concerning my vehicle's complimentary check up included with the oil change. Jeff was rude and refused to wear a mask and when I asked him if he could please do so, he told me he was working there and was hot so he didn't need to wear one. I'm originally from DC and was in PA visiting a family member. My brakes started to make the most horrendous noise I've ever heard, so I came to Yelp and this location popped up first. I didn't have an appointment, but they squeezed me in and my car was being taken care of a little under an hour of waiting for the two cars in front of me. The rep at the front desk, Jeff was super friendly and really looked out for me! This was a life saver honestly because it was close to closing time and he made sure they would inspect my breaks. I've been coming to this Pep Boys for a long time and they are always kind and helpful. I never feel like I'm being taken advantage of and they never recommend work that isn't needed. There was one instance where a woman was there who could not pay for all of the work done on her car. She was about $10 short. She was very upset and I was going to offer to pay for it, but when I pulled aside one of the guys, he said not to worry about it and that they were going to take care of it. That act of kindness was amazing. Sure we hate taking our car in for an oil change or inspection and find out there's more work needed, but they mean well and I've never felt they were trying to get me to spend more money. I was visiting my son in Audubon and noticed when about to drive back to the Lehigh Valley ( at 4:45 pm) that there was a nail/ screw in my back tire. My son suggested calling Pep Boys on Ridge Ave. because his friends "use them all the time". I called, Michael who was very helpful, said if you bring it in right away we'll try to take a look at it. I immediately went ( 4:55) spoke to Michael, he took my keys drove it into the Bay Area, had my car on the lift and tire fixed by 5:20! I originally went to firestone with a flat tire as they were the only place open. I was immediately turned away and sent to Pep Boys, being told they were open since Firestone was starting to close up (despite still being open). They were closed, and I was stuck with a flat tire and no way home. The assistant manager was extremely kind and I ended up knocking on the door to ask if I could leave my car for the night and call myself an uber. Instead they pulled my car in and took a look immediately despite meaning staying late! I can never express how much I appreciated that they would be willing to do that for me, so I was able to get home. Firestone lost a customer, and pep boys gained one. My air was broken and fixed thirty days prior. Then a few weeks later air malfunctioned again and Pep Boys say it's something else that they didn't see earlier. $480 to fix the air the first time and $780 just a few weeks later.The problem should have been diagnosed the first time. I took my car here for an inspection, thinking it would be quick and easy considering my car is 3.5 years old. When the inspection was done, they said I needed $1200 worth of work. New tire rod, wheel bearing etc. I took my car to a non franchise, honest place. They found absolutely nothing wrong with my car. I asked if there was anything specific with what pep boys told me that would need to be replaced soon, and they said no, there's nothing wrong with your car. I'm not quite sure if they thought because I was a young woman they could try to charge me for things that didn't need to be fixed or what. I usually don't have any issues with this location, but my most recent visit too over 1.5 hours for an oil change for which I had an appointment. When I confronted the person at the desk, he went to check and advised that they were just wrapping up. Considering my father does all the repairs on my car, I don't take it to shops unless I really can't find time to go to his garage in South Jersey. I've taken my car here twice (in fact this is the only shop I've taken it to in the last four years) and always had professional service, but I can't vouch for what goes on in their shop. I'm not going to go out of my way to prove my variable timing solenoid was unplugged by their mechanics but it's a really bizarre coincidence that my check engine light came on for that exact reason shortly after I'd taken it here for an oil change. These things don't come unplugged by themselves. I had my car inspected here and was told that my engine mount was loose and I should have it serviced or I would not fail my next inspection. There's nothing wrong with my engine mount, and it did pass it's next inspection. It's a shame because they do quick work and they're very very friendly and professional, the waiting room is very comfortable, and their hours are great. But I can't bring my car in to a shop that fabricates problems just to get their monthly numbers up. read more

I went for an oil change on a weekday afternoon. There was maybe two people in front of me. Service was pretty quick, issue is that I have a car with 140k miles and was given an oil change with convention oil which has lead to my car running hot. Now I'm to going to blame them all the way I should have been specific with need for high mileage, but for them to not ask an assume I want the cheapest option and not even come and ask after they saw mileage is a bad look. I love coming to this pep boys and have really never had anything less of an amazing experience here. The staff is knowledgeable and looks out for their customers, gives you updates throughout your stay, and the lobby is comfortable. Today was another great experience. Although when told over the phone by an employee i rarely see that my wait would be long [i was told there were multiple 8'clock appointments] I was out within a little over an hour. Rich (pretty sure thats his name) is always a pleasure to work with whenever I have an appointment and I always know that if I see him my stay and work done to the car will be what is necessary and done professionally. I am always offered different additional services to my vehicle while I am there, car with a bunch of random problems, but nothing is EVER started without a consultation or just a bit of advice. Hmm where do I start.... Took my car in for annual inspection, waited two hours for it. For it to not pass, okay I get it , it happens. Charged me 65$. Meanwhile not one person there was very pleasant or very welcoming. 4-5 days pass, I notice a strange noise coming from my car... take it to a friend who is a very experienced mechanic. Come to find out , my tires were all loose. Now for those of you who don't know, the lug-nuts that hold your tires on ARE NOT supposed to come off with the power of just your hands. Well guess who's did.... MINE. So thanks again for putting my life in danger along with who ever else I had in my car , and whose ever else's tires you didn't put on. I called for an oil change and to have my fluids and tires checked. The gentleman who answered the phone (Ben) was helpful, informative, friendly and accommodating. I scheduled my appointment for Sunday (9/6). Dropped the car off at 11AM in the morning and received a call at 2PM that it was finished and ready to be picked-up. We were out of town for the day so Ben said it was fine for me to leave the car there and I could pick it up the next morning. When I arrived to get the car Ben was there and took the time to explain everything to me, etc. Super friendly guys! Great location. I went to Pep Boys to see if they could repair a flat tire. They took my car back, came back 2 mins later and told me it could not be repair and I had to buy a new tire. They did not have my tire in stock. I went to Tires Plus in conshohocken who had my tire in stock. However when the mechanic looked at my tire, he said I did not need to buy a new tire and it could be repaired. I doubt the mechanics at pep boys even looked at my tire closely or attempt to be fair and honest. They were simply trying to make a sale instead of being honest with their customers. DO NOT GO TO PEP BOYS!! Their service is extremely horrible and they are dishonest. read more
