Got tires here on Black Friday sale that I found on their website. Decent sale but they jack up installation cost so it wasn't really the buy two get two that they advertise. They have a pretty sizeable lot and a small waiting area with coffee, a vending machine with drinks and a small tv. There's a large tire section in the back which is also where the bathroom is located. The service area fits 4 cars. I had an appointment at 3:30pm and I got there about 10 minutes early. I asked how long it would take to do the install and I was quoted 3 hours. I should've listened. Appointments don't really mean anything. Lol. Anyways 3 hours later I had my tires on and I was out of there. If you're getting something done here definitely ask about timing and figure out something to do before picking up your car or leave it overnight if possible. read more

They are unprofessional, lacking basic human decency and understanding customer service. This is a customer service industry, not your own private business. I had possibly the worst experience ever at a tire shop. An older male with a salt-and-pepper beard and a younger male with curly hair made this establishment unbearable due to their lack of courtesy and respect. My initial contact was with the older man, who was not polite. Despite that, I tried to overlook it. I informed him that I was there for my appointment, but he seemed confused about it. Once I showed him my email from Tire Rack, I asked to see the tires I had ordered. He told me he couldn't show them to me because they were in the back. As a customer at your establishment, I simply wanted to see the tires that were going to be installed. He then proceeded to inform me that it would take 4 to 6 hours to change the tires. If that's the case, why set up an appointment at all? I ended up waiting all day. When I returned to pick up my car, the young man with curly hair acted tough and seemed annoyed that I was trying to pay and get my car out. It wasn't my fault that I arrived at 5:50 PM when you called me at 5:30 PM to pick up the vehicle. You rushed me to pick up the car, yet you were slow with the service. It just doesn't make sense. The older man expressed frustration with third-party vendors sending tires to the shop, saying, "It's not my problem you brought those tires from Tire Rack; if you had purchased them here directly, it would have been faster." But what can the customer do when they need their car serviced urgently. Yelp, Tire Rack, and Pepboy Boys would also know about this experience. read more

Everything is this service is to make you pay up more than you need. The Receptionist or secretary guy just does nothing and helps no one. They replace 4 of my tires and ruin them. They did not install correctly. I went again and he made sit there while he listens to music and does nothing. Disgusting and unprofessional. read more

I had my brakes done 3 weeks ago at this location. I was driving and hear a rubbing noise in my front drivers side wheel. When I reached my destination I checked the wheel. To my surprise the caliper that was just changed a few weeks ago was dislodged. Apparently the bolt that keeps it in place fell out! I pushed the caliper back into place and drove back to the shop. The manager said we are about to close I can't help you now. Ii insisted and finally he had the mechanic look at it. He installed a new bolt and I asked him how could this happen, he basically shrugged and said I don't know. Mind you it was the same mechanic who did the original job. It's pretty apparent that the bolt wasn't fastened correctly. You are talking about brakes, if they failed on the highway I could have been killed. How can someone behave so casually about something like that. I paid good money to them for a complete brake job with new calipers, rotors etc. read more

Made an appointment to have an oil change done on my car at 11am. Got here at 10:50 am. Asked the guy how long it would take, so I could plan my day accordingly. I was told it would take 1 hour. Its 2:30 pm and they still haven't even started on my car. If I knew an oil change here was going to be 4 hours or more, I would've gone somewhere else. Never got oil changed, because they said they couldn't get the hood up on my car and then I noticed a dent where it looks like they tried to pry it open, even though that is not where the latch is for my hood to open. These guys are supposed to be mechanics, my spouse got it open no problem and without damaging my car. The staff were so nonchalant, no professionalism or customer care. Will never ever go back to Pep Boys, especially this location. read more

Very cordial & fast service. Prior appointment is preferred but not necessary. I called for appointment and as per them , no appointment needed. In this COVID 19 situation, they enforce all the necessary steps including proper sanitation, social distancing, providing hand sanitizers, mandatory masks & gloves. I was for routine maintenance for my car , enrolled in their very worthy reward program. Parking lot is huge and easy to get in and out. Definitely coming back next time. i sadly did not read the reviews before coming to this location. A little over 2 weeks after I had power steering fluid changed I had to take it back. You can clearly see it was nearly empty and the small amount of fluid that was left was very dark which tells me it was very dirty. the manager was arguementive said it was the suspension and not an issue with the fluid. Needless to say I paid for guarantee for nothing because I left without them fixing my issue. I definitely overpaid for terrible service. If you are a woman and don't know anything about cars spare yourself the trouble of dealing with these people. They robbed me blindly because I didn't know much about cars. read more

My husband went there for a oil change and asked if they had "synthetic high mileage oil" and was told yes. After the work was done, paid for, and he left but then he looked at the receipt and they had used "high mileage conventional oil". He went back to inquire why they didn't give him the oil he requested and they started arguing with him saying there is no such thing. He argued back and said, "if there's no such thing then why did you tell me you had it?" The worker nastily replied, "Pep Boys never had such a thing". While he was waiting for the oil change, they told him that one of his break lights were out and if he wanted them to change it. He said no, since he didn't have a chance to inspect if what they were saying was true. After leaving, he checked the brake lights and none of them were out. I guess this is how they cheat customers out of additional money. To top it all off, they charged him for a fuel treatment and a premium oil filter which was offered when him upon arrival, but he specifically declined. Again, he only noticed when he looked at the receipt after he had already left because he was in a rush and had to be somewhere. He also requested the complimentary tire rotation but we doubt that was done (this is one of the reasons why he goes to Pep Boys). We also seriously doubt that they gave him the fuel treatment that they charged him for. Lastly, his tire pressure is low today. Every time I get an oil change, they always check my tire pressure for me and add air if needed. He was treated terribly, yelled at, charged for items that he did not receive, charged for items that he can't confirm he received. We do not recommend going to this location and needless to say, we will never be going back. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Went in for some maintenance and the "store manager" wanted to argue with me about my mileage. I didn't capture it and It was pouring rain out and I figured when they took my keys to start the service they could find out what the mileage was then. If I could give zero stars I would. Flat tire in passenger rear, brought to Hillside Pep Boys. That same tire was replaced by them a few months prior, so that's why I returned there. I was told there was a nail in that tire, and I needed 4 tires (they were rotten(?) and I needed breaks (I did not need breaks) and washer blades (they didn't replace rear, I had to return to shop). I did ask to see old tires a couple of hours after replacement but they were "disposed of" by the time I got to shop. Ok, that's entirely possible. So fast forward, tires installed, get on highway, car was dangerously shaking and rattling! Called this location was told to return. Didn't feel great about going back there if they didn't do right in first place so I went to another pep boys in astoria. Manager was really helpful, we did test drive together. First shop didn't properly balance front tires or remove old weights, which is crazy dangerous. First shop didn't bother to do alignment. Second shop rectified the issues and told me my breaks were good and meaty, no need to replace. I was satisfied. This morning I get a low tire reading on the highway, I went to put air in front tires, they didn't take in the air, tire pressure very low. Returned to Hillside PepBoys, guy was rude to ME after I told him hey this is my third trip to pep boys in 4 days. Front tires were not sealed properly first time. After another hour waiting car was repaired. I told guy I like you but I don't wish to return. He said nothing. Drove on highway car still doesn't feel right (it's 2016 CX3 35,000 miles) but so far no tire pressure light. Update 5/16 Hillside PEPBOYS called me and offered me a free oil change. The guy that in charge who refuses to give his name talks to you as if your doing him a favor for a service your paying for. The young lady again refusing to give name doesn't know anything. Went there to do the state inspection and to fix the vibration when braking at high speed. I gave the car to check and The technician came back after diagnosing with the car braking system and the store manager(VALERIE J)said, I need to change the brake rotor and brake pads. But I refused to do the brake service because she was about to charge me 2.5 times what the rotor price was listed on their website, which is ridiculous and unprofessional. I have a proof and I uploaded the proof with same part number on their website which cost $46 after 20% discount and the price she said was $112 for each rotor. The good thing is that I have researched it before going there, otherwise they had ripped me off during this lockdown and financial crisis. I would not recommend this store at all. Good evening to whom it may concern, I want to start off by saying, I am very disappointed in the service and treatment received today at your service center today. The location I went to today is 139-29 Hillside Avenue Jamaica, NY 11435. I was greeted by a manager for this location. His name is Sadiq.He refused to give me his name at first but then found out his name from one of the mechanics. He began to antagonize me and spoke to me very rudely acts as if im doing him a favor for a service I am paying for. He was very rude from the time I walked in. When I tried explaining what I needed he kept raising his voice at me. I walked out and on my way to the parking lot he came out and grabbed me by my shoulder and asked me "what the fuck is my problem". He reeked of marijuana. I told him not to touch me and he got in my face and pushed me and was about to fight me. I have been doing business with pepboys for many years and now I will have to take my business elsewhere. Is this the type of people that are representing the face of your business? I have 4 other family members that will stop doing business at this location as well. Also I will let my existing pepboys referral customers know to not visit this location as of today! The next time he decides to behave this way, someone will not take it as lightly as I did. Made an appointment to have my car serviced here. My car was giving me a lot of trouble, I took it to 2 other shops before I came here and no one could figure out the problem. I came into hillside PepBoys for my appointment and the store manager assisted me. He was very pleasant and assured me they would do all that they can to fix my car. He made me aware that it would take some time to diagnose and fix which I was fine with because the shop was obviously very busy and I wanted a good job to be done. The manager and other front desk associates communicated with me throughout the entire time my car was there and when they called me in to pick my car up the process was very smooth and easy. My car isn't making any noise and is running like new. I recommend hillside PepBoys to everyone I know. It is probably best to make an appointment because they do get VERY busy so patience is important but they do EXCELLENT work! read more

The way that a business treats there customer when they make a purchase is important, but, if something goes wrong, the way that the business handles the issue is even more important, and that's where this Pep Boy's location and manager Valerie really prove outstanding. I purchased a set of 4 tires in September 2021 that were installed and balanced on my vehicle along with a wheel alignment that I requested since I was spending a substantial amount of money on quality tires. Everything seemed fine through Fall, Winter and Spring. Then I brought my vehicle to my mechanic for an annual inspection and 6 month maintenance. When I asked whether the tires were rotated, the mechanic indicated that he normally would but they appeared to be new so he let them be. But he questioned why I had purchased two different sets of tires for the vehicle? I questioned what he meant and he showed me that the tires on the front of the vehicle and those on the rear were, indeed, different. Now, realize that I had checked the tire pressure in these tires monthly and never realized that they were different. the tread design is very similar. the Brand Name and even the Model of the Tire were on the sidewall exactly the same. The difference was the "sub model" where one was "All Season" and the other "MaxLife". I had purchased 4 MaxLife's. At Pep Boys, there isn't a significant difference in the price between the two tires, about $15.00 and I didn't have any difficulties with the All Seasons whatsoever. Their treadlife, however is significantly less than the MaxLife's. I spoke with Valerie, the manager at Pep Boys about the error that my mechanic had found. I had already driven the tires for 7 months, about 7,000 miles. I honestly would have been OK with just a refund of the difference in price between the two tires or maybe twice that amount due to their error. But Valerie chose to replace the two All Seasons with a set of Max Life's. Now, I know that people reading this review are going to say that they shouldn't have made the mistake in the first place. But in all honesty, if you look at the sidewall of the two sets of tires, it is very easy to overlook that they are different. So, as I said, the way issues are handled really sets a business apart and Valerie really showed how professional she is. For that, Pep Boys deserves 5 stars! read more

We went here yesterday because one of our bulbs on our car were out and we just needed advice/help. We were told to buy new bulbs, so we did. Then when this didn't solve the problem, we got one of the associates/workers to help us out, he gave us a very nasty attitude, he said that our bulb could not fixed unless we go to a body shop that he pointed us to. He said that Pepboys could not change our bulb and that the ONLY way to change it is for a body shop to lift the hood and specifically pointed us towards one he was familiar with. He then just walked away. We ended up fixing the bulb ourselves in that very parking lot without the hood being lifted. He was no help at all and a disgrace to the Pep Boys brand. I called ahead because i had my 11 month old daughter with me and just needed to run a diagnostic and charge the ac she told me 45mins but i came back from walking around after an hour and half and they never saw my car and when i left there bays were empty, now they are full and i have never been seen and there was only one person waiting when i left my car. So i guess they forgot about me. Now I'm waiting another 30mins or so until they see my car, so 2 hours just to run a diagnostic and charge the AC. My family owns an auto shop and they would never tell a customer 45mins and make them wait 2 hours just to do it when they were empty upon arrival. I came in with a flat tire and I wanted to go through the warranty I had to replace the tire. I was towed to this establishment around 3am and they don't open until 7am on Friday. As much as the staff was willing to help I was displeased with the amount of time I had to wait. It's now 12pm and I am still here waiting, and at this point they still haven't gotten the tire which is available no more than 10 blocks away. When I voiced my frustration of being here for a total of 9 hours (5 hours since they opened) I was asked "well what do you want me to do?" That is unacceptable from a customer service point of view. Especially when I was told as soon as another associate comes in they will go get the tire, and I looked up to see 4 associates behind the counter joking around. I've been coming here the past few service intervals on my car and haven't had any issues until the last visit where after an oil change, they did not screw back the oil intake cap. After driving half a block down, I just wanted to see what filter was put on. When I popped the hood, I noticed that the oil intake was left open and that the cap was laying on the battery. Good thing I checked cause on my car it would've been very easy for something to fall into the engine since the intake is very exposed. I was looking to buy and install a tire pressure monitor sensor for my car. they quoted me a price of $130. Their price was by far the most expensive then any other quote I got. They said that I will have to do wheel alignment after installing the sensor. All other tires places I called said it is not needed. So if you like to over pay and get unnecessary work done on your car then you will love them. Other wise stay away or keep shopping. Mr. Jay from Pep Boys called me and promises some changes in this location, I may give them another try. read more

They accidently broke a sensor doing the repair, but Val ordered the part and they will repair it at no charge. They also did my timing belts this summer.
