My car died on way there so I was forced to have problem fixed there, so it was towed to Metairie location. Bad ECT sensor they told me. They also supposedly flushed and drained my radiator, changed oil and inspected engine for $99. Total cost was over $1000. My car still ran badly after repairs were made and it died again a week or two later after overheating so I took my car to my very reputable regular mechanic in Lakeview. He said PepBoys cracked my radiator, numerous bolts were missing, bad sensor left on top of radiator and fluid which was almost gone in my radiator, what remained was brown, not properly flushed. All of this cost me an additional 1,100 and could've ruined my engine. Mgr. Sean and Assistant Mgr. were very rude to me when I called, would not listen and talked over me. I'm lucky I was not on road to evacuate from a hurricane. Not once was I greeted in a professional manner or thanked for spending over $1100 there. Front drivers side tire popped so we came in to replace one, the employee immediately started Upselling saying we should get 4 new tires instead of 1. My friend agreed and we've waited almost 4 hours for the change and they're still not even done. I started watching the mechanics to see if any work was done and instead they were talking, smoking, and distracting each-other from doing the work we paid them to do. Once they noticed us staring at them it took about 20 minutes of actual work and it was done. We understand that these things take time, but we don't want to waste our money and TIME watching them hangout. I had my tires replaced today and the service I received at this Pep Boys was excellent. I came by at 8:30 this morning to purchase tires and have them mounted. I was given a wait time of 2 1/2 hours, which was more than reasonable, since I had no appointment and there were already 4 vehicles ahead of mine. I was able to fix myself a cup of tea, compliments of their Keurig. I then waited it out in their lounge area. There were several chairs, a couple of tables, a TV and magazines to keep my mind occupied. I was able to catch up on some work as well. I will preface by saying I haven't had any services performed here, but had a really great customer service experience here today anyways. I recently bought a used 2014 Honda CR-V after 8 years of being car-free by choice. As a 43 year old divorced lady with years of no car, saying my basic vehicle knowledge is lacking is an understatement. While waiting for my daughter to finish her drivers ed class next door, I decided to tackle checking the air pressure on my tires for the first time; as I used the cute little silver tool I'd bought months back, I realized I had no clue how to properly place the tool and ended up with wildly inconsistent measurements over and over. I noticed the Pep Boys one parking lot over and decided to drive over. As I sheepishly walked up to the counter and asked if someone could help me, Chris responded in a friendly way and said, "Let's go check it out!" We walked outside to my vehicle and Chris spent 10 minutes with me, showing me the proper way to gauge the pressure and explaining a few other things which were really helpful to know. made an appointment on line for 10:30 to change brake light. I put on the form that I would wait..I get there at 10:10. They informed me it would be 3 hours. I had to call a friend to come get me. I can recommend this specific Pep Boy's store where Gerard (previous Slidell store manager) was transferred. I will never again give my business to the Slidell store on Gause which is unfortunate because they do have one great mechanic there named Jason. He takes the time to get the job done correctly. Unfortunately, the new manager casts a dark light over the entire shop. BEWARE!! Gerard (manager at Veterans store) did the best he could to make good on my defective warrantied tire. Human error showed a replacement tire in stock and was not but the manager got me back on the road with a better (not my brand and matching) tire and scheduled correct warrantied replacement for next week. This top of the line service manager deserves a following and makes for a successful business. Note: Slidell store cost me eight hours of my day, two professional tows from Lacombe to Slidell and then Slidell to Metairie, LA., a day of high blood pressure and pain and suffering for this heart patient; and this was my fourth time there giving them ample time to rectify this problem. I'm usually not a person that writes reviews publicly on the internet, but my experience with Pep Boys in Metairie was so atrocious today that I had to. Let's start this off by saying that this exact Pep Boys location has done plenty of work on my vehicle in the past and I've never had any issues... until today. This is going to be a long one, but hopefully people can learn from my mistake of doing business with them. I originally went in on Friday with a check engine light, which they fixed and I took the car home on Saturday night ($1,600 later). On Wednesday of the same week, the check engine light came on again, so I returned the vehicle to Pep Boys at 5:30pm. I spoke to Chris when I dropped the vehicle off again and was informed that the the head technician was not in the shop today and that they would get to it "first thing Thursday morning". I specifically requested for them to give me a call any time before 9:00am on on Thursday, so I could make arrangements to get to work if needed... they open on 7:00am, so 2 hours should be plenty of time for a phone call. Chris was nice enough to pull the code from the CEL to at least let me know what was going on, but explained that they would have to run a full engine diagnostic's test to identify the exact problem (cost of $120). Chris did, however, mention that he was going to communicate with Cody (the shop manager) that I was back in with another CEL on, and that he would communicate with Cody to see if they could "zero out the cost" of another engine diagnostics, since I just paid for this service 4 days ago. Chris explained that the new code may be unrelated to the previous work that they did, but I'm assuming was trying to get a courtesy exception on the $120 diagnostics test, as I had just paid them a significant amount of money for the previous repair. 9:00am Thursday morning rolls around and I have not received a phone call (or any communication for that matter) from the shop. It wasn't until 11:30am that I received the call telling me what was going on with the vehicle. The price they quoted me for repairs included the $120 diagnostics cost, as well as parts and labor. I asked the representative if I could speak to Cody (the manager) to ask if he'd be willing to honor the exception on the cost for the engine diagnostics, as I had no clue if it was related to the work that they completed recently--- once again because of the lack of communication. Cody stated that he was never informed by Chris about the exception for the cost of the diagnostics test and stated "I'll honor to waive the cost for this one time, but I do not want to make this a recurring pattern with you". Mind you, during previous work with this shop, I've never once asked for any sort of deal and was simply offered this as a possibility by Chris and was following up. Cody then tried to make an analogy of "If you go to the doctor one day for heartburn and another day for a headache, you still have to pay the doctor twice and nobody ever argues with that." The tone in which he delivered his comments sounded very rude and made me not want to do business with him, so I told him not to perform any repairs on the car and that I would take my business elsewhere. About 30 minutes later, I walked in to pick up my car and also spoke with Cody again (explained to him my frustrations with the lack of communications). Cody had no remorse for the lack of communication, nor his comments and since I didn't do the repairs with his shop, still charged me the $120 for the engine diagnostic... very petty and not a way to treat repeat customers. Needless to say, I took my vehicle elsewhere and I will NEVER be doing business with this location, or any Pep Boys again. If anyone from this organization wants more feedback regarding this issue, you have my name and my phone number is on file with you. Cody, I hope you enjoyed treating your repeat, paying customers that way and you wont have to worry about this being a "recurring pattern"... because I won't be back. read more

They were going to charge me $700 for rear brakes and rotors - I went to get a second opinion (and cheaper price) from a smaller mechanic shop and it turns out I don't even need a brake job! Pep boys told me they were "metal to metal". I have at least 30k miles left on my brakes and they are "no where near being metal to metal" according to a trusted mechanic. This freaking place is so unprofessional and slow. It's got to be the worst mechanic shop in the country instead of one star I would absolutely give it -1,000,000 stars I'm a patient person but the behavior I sat and watched for over three hours was sickening. These people mounted my tire on incorrectly, and then tried to say it wasn't them. I wouldn't even call this guy a manager since he has the IQ of a squirrel and he only has that title cause he's been locked up forced to wake up and go to that crappy place his whole life and he's been there the longest so that only makes the most sense. Pretty sad for "Cody". He made sure to make sure that him and his team didn't do "anything wrong" and that I brought my tire to get patched to aliens since they "aren't the ones who did it"... I find a patch in my tire, when I didn't bring it anywhere else in the last 5 months since I had to have one tire mounted and put on. They couldn't even do that right. He proceeded to tell me that he "changed 40 tires a day". If you did 40 tires a day, you wouldn't have messed up on my car pee brain. Try to think for once. You and your team are super careless and don't know how to work on cars. Completely lost and like I said "the manager" is going to be partly why this store doesn't make it through 2024 I feel bad for the general manager/owner of this establishment. Dropped my car off yesterday at 10am and have not heard back once until I called yesterday at 4:30pm and was told they were working on it still. I had my boyfriend call at 6:45pm when they closed at 7pm because I suspected since he was a man they would provide him more information and sure enough they told him my car would be there "a long time because the AC part I needed was out of stock." Fair prices for an oil change, especially if you bring your own oil/filter (if your car needs synthetic), and reasonably fast. While I was waiting, I browsed through the store, and I wasn't incredibly impressed with prices, but they didn't seem like the worst, either. I feel confident in coming here for maintenance. After a bad experience at a nearby Toyota dealership overcharging me for services that I didn't want or need in the first place, I appreciate the service at Pep Boys a bit more. First review ever. I set an appointment (which seemed to mean nothing because they didn't even know I was coming in). I went in for a tire rotation and oil change. While the oil was changed the tires WERE NOT rotated. I sat by the window the entire time while the technician went back and forth from my car to his phone. I asked the guy at the front with (black nail polish on his finger nails) if the tires were rotated and he stated "yes,ma'am." I knew he was lying because I didn't see the tech do it ( and I was also the only customer there!!), and I am aware I need a tire replacement on the driver side so the tire loses air on that side quickly. The following day the same tire had its normal issue....this was my first time there and I won't be back. I went for something rather simple and still got played. I assume it's because my appointment was at 6 and they close at 7. I had to work early in the day myself. It's already bad enough I am already on defense because I'm a female and constantly on the lookout for being taken advantage of. Despite the discounts, I'd rather pay good money for great service. I used to frequent pep Boys go many of my auto maintenance needs including tires. But no longer. Not long ago Pep Boys remodeled the store and did away with most of their retail display area with the thought of focusing their marketing to the service side of the business instead of providing proper selection of products for do it yourself people like me. Additionally, they have raised their prices to a level way above their competitors. My most recent trip I was told it would cost me $50.00 LABOR to change the lowbeam lamps on my car. This price did not include the bulb price. I don't mind paying for service, but I am not going to let them rip me off. I went home a did it myself. Brought my 1997 Toyota Camry in to replace the struts. Knew it was going to be costly, but this was very expensive, average of $500 per wheel. When they list a complete strut with springs and mountings on their own website for $608 for all four wheel, to say that it was a $500 average per wheel is not a great deal. Knew that I was getting it from behind when I did it, but tired of running around and pricing the work out and knowing that the most expensive set of four was at Pep Boys, disappointed in the whole situation. For some reason I decided to replace all four rotors and brake pads on my car myself... I have never done anything more on a car than replace a headlight and windshield wipers. Anyway after finishing the job (and many Yelp reviews of car related services later) I noticed that there was a small clanging noise in one of my wheels. I decided it being my brakes, I should make sure that I did this properly. I decided to take it to Pep Boys on Vets. Kathy, who seems to be the Commander in Chief of the service department was very nice and said that they would be very happy to look over the brakes and asked me if I had a Pep Boys Rewards card. I did not. She said that normally a brake check is $14.99 but if I just grab one of those cards sitting at the registerer and sign up for free than the brake job would be free as well. Wow. The only negative was that Kathy didn't mention that it would probably be over an hour before a tech was able to get to my car... Luckily after an hour I asked another employee how many cars were in front of me and he came back and said that he moved me to the front of the line and that a tech was going to stop working on a car and work on mine to get me out of there. My tech was Gary (the one with glasses, not the beard) and he was awesome. When I went outside to his bay, he had already taken my car for a test drive to listen for the noise and had my tires off. He inspected my work and said I did a great job. He said he thought the noise was coming from a heat shield that was too close to the rotor. Nothing dangerous but could cause the slight noise I heard so he corrected that. He let me watch him check all four wheels and showed me tips for the next time I attempt this. He checked my brake fluid level for me and corrected the overfill and then explained why I need to have my brake lines bled (I pushed dirty brake fluid back into the lines when I reset the caliper pistons). After he was done, we took a test drive to listen for the noise and it was fixed. He again gave me some great car tips and was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Just as promised, the bill came to $0 when they signed me up for the Rewards Card. I bought some needed accessories and cleaning supplies to make up for this. This Pep Boys location will definitely be my go-to auto parts store whenever I'm in town. read more

The man who answered the phone said they would need to get them from another store and they would be there the following morning for my appointment. Well I called again just to be sure and NOPE, they weren't there and he said he would call then and have them for me that afternoon. I called back and they were there so I took my car in. I got a fair price for 4 new tires and an oil change. They didn't call me and tell me my car was ready. I came back a few hours later and it was in the parking lot. Who knows how long it had been ready. Also, they forget to give me back the device to unlock my wheels. Good thing I remembered to get it the next day because if I had waited until I needed it, I'm sure it wouldn't still be there.
