I ordered tires from tirerack.com and chose this pepboys location at (8529 highway 64 memphis)as my installer. I received notification that my tires would be delivered and called to make an appointment to have them installed. They were able to schedule the installation for the same day, which was nice as I was expecting to have to wait several days to a week. While there I was shown that my front brakes desperately needed replacing. I had just purchased a 2013 ram 1500 and I knew the brakes were due for replacement soon, but had no idea they were so bad off. They had gone down to metal On metal. I would normally make this repair myself but I was there and didn't want to drive it that way. Because of my recent purchase (truck and tires) I was strapped for cash!$! They were quite understanding of my situation, not only staying late to complete the repairs but discounting services to a point I could afford all the while making an unpleasant situation as comfortable as possible. I scheduled a 10:30 a.m. appointment expecting a straightforward service for one tire and replacing the passenger side low and high beam bulbs on my 2013 Hyundai Genesis. Unfortunately, the experience was frustrating from the start. After checking in, I stood at the counter for about 15 to 20 minutes with no communication. During the walk around, I pointed out the non-working low beam, but was later told it was working. This was one of the main reasons I brought the car in. I was also told the high beam bulb I provided was incorrect, something that could have been caught earlier. I was quoted a total cost and expected the work to be done. Instead, I was told my car wouldn't be ready until hours later than promised. When I returned, an employee insisted multiple people had checked the light, yet when I looked, the passenger side low beam was still not working. I am now driving with that light still out. This was frustrating and concerning. I expected honest communication and professional service, but instead experienced delays, dismissive interactions, and unresolved issues. I hope corporate reviews this and reaches out, because the experience did not match basic expectations. read more

I made an appointment for rear brake service at 9 am. I showed up 10min early, my car wasn't touched till 10 am. One person in front on me and a walk in. Im well aware of how brakes work. I was told I needed new rotors on top of pads. That was a lie! They tried to take me for over $700. I ask for my one wheel to be put back on and it took another half hour so I could go somewhere else. I spent 2 hours there. I ended up going to an honest mechanic and had new ceramic pads installed. I went in to get my tires top off with air. The girl at the front was decent but the guy who filled my tires with air was straight shade tree mechanic. He filed the tires without concern for the pressure in eachtire so that it can be balanced. Before I knew he was finished didn't inform me that he was finished I look up this un professional dude was closing the door before I can tell him that one of my tires had too much air. Pep boys is the worst mechanic shop I've ever been to I took my car in for an oil leak and they tried to charge me $1.500 for a valve cover gasket which costs maybe $115. Plus labor the total should be around $400 but they tried scamming me for $1,500. I took the same car into pep boys because it wouldn't turn on keep in mind they were very busy that day. Not even an hour later they call me and say " yeah it's going to be $8,000 you need a new motor ". I took it to somebody I know and trust and the issue was the starter and they quoted me $400. Please don't go to pep boys they will mislead you and only want your money. read more

MISLEADING AND DISHONEST I took my vehicle for an alignment and was told it would be $99.99 for the service. Upon picking up the vehicle I was told that my total was $120. When asked why it was more expensive than advertised the clerk stated that it was due to taxes. I stated that taxes were not 20% and only then did she advise there were "shop fees". I was never advised of these fees until after the service was performed. The fee totaled to $9.99. This is a misleading and dishonest practice to hide fees. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY FOR ANY AUTOMOTIVE SERVICES!! read more

Went in for an alignment. On top of the alignment quote, they charged me $400 in labor to adjust the tie rod and replace a cotter pin. Hello! Part of an alignment is adjusting the tie rod! I felt completely robbed and will be pursuing action against this business. read more

I went to this location because I had an oil leak and and a bad wobble in the steering wheel when I put on the brakes. I got quoted 1100 to fix the oil leak and over 800 dollars to fix the brakes because he said I needed new rotors front and back. The total quote was over 2300. I took the car for a second opinion. The oil was leaking from something that wasn't related to any gaskets period. The steering wheel was shaking because of a control arm on the passenger side BOTTOM LINE THE REPAIRS COST $630 vs the $2300 they quoted and nothing that he was trying to charge me for was even wrong with my vehicle. I can't recommend this shop because of improper diagnosis of the problem and gross overcharging for the repairs that were actually needed. read more

2 years ago I had a great experience buying tires at another pep boys location. Well, yesterday my wife decides that she needs some tires. I send her to pep boys. She goes to this location and purchases 4 tires. The salesman says it's gonna be an hour and half. Well after about two hours the salesman comes out and says "we got your car ready". She pays and asks for the keys. The salesman can't find the keys because the tire tech stole the vehicle and left! It was raining and the road conditions weren't great. The salesman calls the tech who says he's on a test drive. I have purchased tires many times at different locations and business all over the country, this is the first and only time a tech has test driven a car for a tire change. 45 minutes later the tech is no longer answering the phone. A manager comes up so I asked him who gave the tech permission to leave the lot with our car. He replies, "we do this all the time"! So apparently they steal cars all the time. Well after waiting for what felt like 4 hours the tech shows back up with the car. He went to get lunch in our car! Then we take possession of our previously stolen car. My wife gets on the interstate and the car shakes violently at highway speeds, which it did not do before. 2016 Ford Fusion that is garage kept and driven to work and back! I went in today to get a quote, me and my husband were standing at the front counter (where no one was behind it) and was waiting 10 minutes while they were in the shop, looking in the window that separates the shop and the lobby. Not one person came in to ask if we needed help (knowing well we were in there waiting for someone). Finally I went into the shop to ask for some assistance and they just looked at me and went back to what they were doing!!! We were there for 15 minutes standing at the front desk and no one came to help, all the while they still looking in the window, seeing us stand there and not doing a damn thing. Very poor service and I will NEVER return here again!!! read more

Absolute horrible customer service. I went in on Wednesday June 19, 2019 at around 3pm. I was needing and prepared to purchase a set of tires for my vehicle. The associate at the desk, Chris, was on a phone call so I waited patiently. He proceeded to answer another phone call while placing the current call on hold. He spoke with that individual on the phone for a while and then told them he had another call. Now during all this I was never greeted, acknowledged, or even given a "just a minute" look. He went back and carried on his other phone conversation. So after about 4-5 minutes of standing I walked out myself. Absolutely unacceptable. Very inexperienced and shady work. Last year they broke my husband's axil, and then tried to get out of fixing it. This year they're now saying it's broken again (or leaking???) and when an A/C thing needed fixed, they said the whole system needed to be replaced when in all actuality it was only a fuse. Thank goodness we got a second quote at a place that works specifically on german cars. I would only recommend this place for new tires and oil changes, NOTHING ELSE!! read more

WARNING!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE FOR SERVICE! We made a HUGE mistake taking a car here for tires, wheel and alignment. Our daughter hit a curb and ruined 2 tires. 'Jerry' told us that there was much more damage to the car, $3000+ worth he said. We decided to contact our insurance company since this was much more than we were expecting and an adjuster was coming the next day to Mathis to check out the damage. 'Jerry' said they ordered the parts & could install next day & they did the work BEFORE the adjuster arrived. The adjuster said 'Jerry' charged 2 1/2 times (WAY OVERCHARGED) what should have been charged. Essentially they ripped us off. When we went to pick up the car, the windshield was cracked in 3 places (and it wasn't cracked when we brought it in) and 2 lights were on on the dash (that weren't on when we brought it in). They denied damaging our car, refused to fix anything more and my husband became very concerned that they would continue to damage our car if we left it there, so we picked it up immediately & left. 'Jerry' was rude and very combative throughout this whole transaction. AND the reason we brought the car in, for tires and wheel...WEREN'T EVEN REPLACED IN THE $3000 we had to pay them! We went to Sam's for tires and Honda for the wheel. And we still have to replace the windshield they cracked and have the lights checked on the dash. BEWARE! STAY AWAY FROM THIS BUSINESS! read more
