I brought my wife's Fiat 500X to the Pep Boys on H Street this morning after a "not so positive" experience at the Pep Boys on Broadway yesterday. Pep Boys on Broadway wanted to price gouge me and charge me $120 to change my cabin air filter even though the standard rate that other locations charge is $20. When I made the appointment, I asked and confirmed that there would be no other fees other than the $20 labor rate. Sure enough, that was the case. They did the work, charged me $20 in labor, and I was out the door in an hour. I have always liked the Pep Boys on H Street and will keep bringing my wife's car and my car here for service. Had a nail on one of our tires after 6pm, and it was going flat. No tires places in the area was open except them and we were on our way on a long driving trip. Long story short...they refused to assist with just a patch, saying they were booked and can't take us in...knowing our situation. Go to The Tire Service off 3rd...took us in right away even when there were other customers. Patch done in less than 15 mins. Was that too hard Pep Boys?!? Shame on you. read more

I brought my vehicle here last week for an oil change and tire rotation. The following day, while washing my car, I noticed that the patched tire I had previously repaired was still in the same position. This clearly indicated that the tire rotation had not been performed as stated on the service report. To make matters worse, the vehicle inspection report claimed that two of my tires were not the manufacturer-recommended size and even included a note suggesting I replace them. This is completely inaccurate since all four tires are identical and within specifications. I returned to the shop to have the issue corrected, and while the staff agreed to perform the rotation, I had to wait several more hours for the service. Where is the quality of work here? Customers can't even see what's being done to their vehicles, which makes it hard to trust the process. A little honesty and attention to detail would go a long way in restoring confidence. This is the most garbage place that I've ever dealt with in my life, and I've gotten ripped off by many mechanics over the years as a woman. This was the worst. At least pep boys is good at something, at being the absolute worse I took it in In mod November for my front brakes for 700$. I'm a mother of 3 and times are hard so for 700$ I would expect to feel safe. I took it in about a week after because they were grinding. They said they changed something and it should be good. A week later I took it in again because it was still grinding, they say they adjusted something and it should be good. I took it in a week later because it was still grinding and this time they said it's the back brakes and that there's nothing wrong and they laughed and scoffed at me as I walked out. Took it to another mechanic and he fixed the back brakes. A week later I contacted the second mechanic and told him my brakes are still grinding. He inspected it and said the pads pep boys used were extremely cheap. I contacted pep boys again and he said he didn't care if I took it up with the BAR. By the way, I'm taking it in countless times on my days off and that's heartbreaking to me but I don't feel safe. I have all the paperwork to back me and a letter from the other mechanic. I expect a full refund and hopefully partial for the mechanic that I will be doing business with. These guys are not professional, they're rude and it's very unsafe the type of business that pep boys is doing. Brakes are dangerous if they don't work properly and again, that's an insane amount of money for someone poor like me to spend on low quality part and work. Anywhere else, don't go here. I just had brake pads replaced a few months prior at the dealership so I know I do not need brake pads but pep boys lied and said they were almost completely gone! I asked to be shown the pads so I went back there and they both agreed the pads were around half!! They completely lied to my face and I called them out only for the manager to double down and lie to my face. She tried to blame the device they use to show their customers the brake pad measurements was wrong! She chose to take the side of her lying mechanic instead of acknowledging the blatant obvious lie. She had zero explanation to justify them trying to rip me off. Completely unnecessary work, trying to make some money off me. Took my vehicle in to have the battery tested. The technician that tested the battery set the tester to Flooded when the battery was an AGM wrong chemistry. Tried to tell me the battery was perfectly fine nothing wrong with it and that there's no difference between batteries all are tested the exact same. Best advice I can give you is go somewhere else, honestly anywhere else but here for brakes. Took my car in for brake service. They replaced them. As soon as I drove off the lot the brakes were squeaking. I figured they needed to be broken in as they also replaced the rotors. A month later they still made noise so I brought my car back in to get looked at. They kept the car all day only to tell me the brakes looked new. No kidding they replaced them the month before. When I asked how long before I could expect the brakes not to make noises and they said 500 miles from date of install. I found that funny when I told them it has already been 800 miles. There response was well I guess maybe 1000 would be better. I brought me car back a third time after trying forever to speak to the District Manager to no avail. This time they replaced the brakes again. Guess what they still make noise only this time only at low speeds (think freeway traffic). I just want a refund at this point so I can take the car to somewhere else. read more

Brought my 2011 Mini here around noon on 19 Feb with a stuck hood/latch. I was advised that there's no specific service for this here but that they would have their "master technician" look at it to see if they could pop it open. The next day, after they failed to contact me with any update, I went to pick it up and ask how far the tech got so I could use this information at my next stop. I was told he "pulled on the hood release cable, and it did not open". That was the extent of the troubleshooting. They had my car 24 hours, didn't bother even looking at the problem. I am not sure how many times I need to give them a chance and then they screw up. Absolutely ridiculous and absolutely insane. I can file a lawsuit against them. I have brought my car for oil change and tire rotation and I specifically asked that the check my tire pressure again as soon as I turn my car on after they were done the dashboards low tire pressure light comes on. I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt again and I thought maybe because they rotated the tires maybe I just need to reset the light I reset the lights for about three times for the duration of two weeks and then I decided to check the tire pressure myself and holy crap all the tires were almost 10 PSI where it's supposed to be( supposed to be 36) they're all almost between 24 and 28. Absolutely unacceptable and absolutely careless when they know this is not a joke. They can be lazy with anything but not with tire pressure, especially when I specifically asked for it. Last time I had my car oil change performed I asked Leonel new guy to do a rotation on my tires , he told me he was going to charge me , that it was not free anymore, its odd I bought all 4 tires there , he never asked me that at all , and he also charged me another fee a 2 second re set maintenance button fee , when I went to do my other car I asked about this situation and I was told that the rotation was charged incorrectly, did not get an apology and told me that the fee to re set a button is part of the oil change ! Its odd because is not found no where on the description of the oil change . And that I have to tell them not to do it otherwise they will do it and charge me . Beware doing business here as I believe they have a system to scam people. I wish I would have took at the one star Yelp reviews first as it would stop me from doing business with this shady company. I came in for 1. An oil change, 2. I needed windshield fluid, 3. Fix my AC because it was blowing out hot air (on Thursday June 3rd). I get a call at 5pm that my car is ready for pick up and that they charged me $50 to just look at my AC and they fixed it. We show up and they to the shop and they say oh they drove the car around and the AC was blowing out hot air after they fixed it. So they found out that it was the compressor and it will cost $800 to fix including parts and labor. OH and I need to replace my 2 back tires badly too- would I like to get it fixed? I got annoyed as I showed up to pick up my car to learn this after they told me my car was fixed. So I say ok go ahead and fix the compressor and get new tires. So I leave my car for ANOTHER Day with them and they said the car would be ready to be picked up on Friday. We get a call around 3pm to say the car is READY- We show up to pick up the car around 5pm to be told they didn't fix the AC and that it's going to cost us $1000 and they don't have the parts. They then uphold us that we needed to get our other tires (front ones to be replaced. 2 days without my car, 2 days showing up to the shop after receiving calls stating my car is fixed and ready to be picked up- what a waste of time. I say no thankful and share with an assistant manager Liz my experience as this is inappropriate and shady business. She said she will look into this and call back today which is Saturday by the way and it's 8:47pm and no call back. I have my car back, the only thing that is fixed is my oil change, 2 back tires replaced overpriced and the oh, my engine light is still on telling me I need my oil change and air in tires ( that they replaced). I am mortified with my experience at this establishment and really wish no one would go through what I did the back and forth to this shop. Worst brake servive ever avoid like the plague messed up my front brakes and rotors now my car grinds everytime i brake

So my car couldn't hold a start and I got it towed to the dealer. Which I should've known better but anyway- so they diagnosed my car and said my throttle needed to be replaced and of course threw in a bunch of other recommendations. I called my mechanic and he suggested i go to pep boys and just have it cleaned. My husband called pep boys and they said it would cost $40 to clean but if it had to be replaced, it would $500- which was still almost $300 less than what the dealer was charging me. So we got the car towed to pep boys. My dealer btw never even offered to clean my throttle, they just let us go. Which is their bad. Thankfully, pep boys was able to clean it and the reason- which is like duh in hindsight - my battery was dead. So I needed to replace it, still cheaper than the dealer. What made this whole ordeal more expensive was I had to pay the dealer $150 for diagnostics- which btw how does my dealer not even figure out my battery is dead during diagnosis?! That rant will be on their review. Anyway, my first time getting the throttle cleaned/ makes a whole world of a difference. lesson learned and come to pep boys. read more

I'm not a fan of long wait times for an oil change, especially with an appointment, but they let me know that day had unusual circumstances. Took my truck in for a alignment, it does have a 6 inch lift and 35 inch wheels and tires but the shop assured me they could align it. I waited over four hours to get it aligned and after driving the truck no more than two minutes after pulling it out of the shop I realized the alignment was worse than when I brought it in. I brought the truck back and told the associate what problems I was experiencing and was confronted with doubt and sarcasm. Then the associate took it for a test drive and verified what I was telling him. So I brought the parts and he changed the estimate to 190 dlls for labor only. I said, Ricardo told me that it would be 130 dlls if I brought the parts myself. I really loved Pep Boys prior to this situation, it's convenient to just drop it off and pick it up when it's ready. But over the past few oil changes I have developed a leak gradually getting worse after every oil change. I was told that it was leaking because it was an 'older car'. My car is a 2019 Kia Optima so not extremely old. The last visit I asked if they could check that my oil pan wasn't cracked or anything and they said they would check it out. When I went to pick up my car they just brushed over the oil pan check. After getting my car lifted I could see that someone had put what looked to be glue in the gash, so it wasn't unnoticed. I have been going to get my oil changed here since getting my car in 2020, so there is no way another shop did it. read more

The one thing I disagree with is the difference in price between consumer parts and "service" parts. When I got a call that the starter had to be replaced I asked why the part seemed to have a high cost, $307.43, they said it was new, but I could get a re-manufactured part. I went ahead with the repairs and later found out that the same part can be purchased in the same store for $142.99 (no promotion price). I called to ask about the difference and was told that service parts cost more because it also covers a warranty for the installation by the mechanic. I can understand a service part costing a bit more, but it was an additional $164.44, more than the part itself, which is a 115% mark-up. This seems high, especially since I paid $24.65 for an extended warranty, and the part itself has a limited lifetime warranty. Everything else was good. Although I was 95% sure it was the starer, there was a $49.99 diagnostic fee, which I understand since it takes time to check it out and verify what the customer is reporting. Labor rates are probably similar to every where else, and the time to repair it was good. I arrived late after waiting 3 hours for a tow truck and was in no hurry to get it back. All communication on the phone and in person was professional and went well. I may even return here for some services, but will need to take into consideration the cost for service parts.
