Admittedly I was really reluctant to make an appointment based on these reviews, but I really needed an oil change and this place was (1) near work and (2) near a Target. I made my appointment online at 1pm, showed up on time, and they said it would take an hour. I walked over to Target, shopped to kill time, and came back an hour later and it was done. No issues whatsoever, no complaints. It looks like others have had major issues with other repairs and appointment scheduling, but I honestly had no problems. I was disappointed with the service I received at the Broadview Pep Boys location. I brought my vehicle in because it was pulling to the right and requested that it be checked for a wheel alignment. I was later informed that the inner and outer tie rod ends needed replacement, which I approved. The total cost was over $500. After picking up the vehicle, the issue remained unchanged. I also discovered that the front right tire had been inflated to 47 PSI. Standard PSI is 35 PSI. I returned the next day, and after another alignment inspection, I was told that worn out front tires was most likely causing the issue. I paid an additional $40 at another shop to rotate the tires, but the vehicle still pulled to the right. When I returned again, I was told they could only refund the alignment charge of $138. In the end, I still have the original issue despite spending several hundred dollars. Unfortunately, I was not satisfied with the overall service experience. read more

My husband had an appointment at 10:30 so he dropped off the car and asked how long it would take (wence the employee) did not give him an estimated time at all. I went to meet my husband at target since its right by the pep boys and he figured he can shop around while while we waited. In the time i got there he got a notification from pep boys. It said his car wouldnt be done until a week from today, what the hell is going on we made an appointment for a reason. He called 3 times no answer i called 2 times and got an answer. I asked them whats going on with the car we brought it because the online tracking process website says it will take a week. He said it must be malfunctioning (understandable) so i asked him how long it will take to get it done, he said an hour and a half. I called at 11:45 an hour after drop off so we went and got lunch by chic fil a to stay nearby and be ready for pick up at 1:15-1:30. We did not get any call and by 2:30 i was over it we walked to pep boys and when i walk in pretty much all of the employees are sitting in the front talking and joking and laughing. I walked in everyone got quiet and just watched me, once i mentioned the appointment and car model one tire tech automatically started going to the back. The guy at the front desk asked around who was working on that car and the guy walking to the back (kevin) was pointed out to be the one. So why was he sitting there talking watching shows with his coworkers until we walked in and i put him on the spot. I asked how much longer it would be then because we had an appointment for 10:30 and was told when we called at 11:45 it would be an hour and a half. I mentioned its literally 2:30 pretty much 4 hours later from the apt and the cars still not done. I also mentioned we saw the car still sitting outside earlier waiting for service on our way to lunch at 12 and now we see its up in the air with no tech working on it. They said 30 minutes, and boy did they make sure that it was 30 minutes. I saw the tech rushing in the back to do the work he should have finished 3-4 hours ago. It doesnt take 4 hours to changed tires but it will if youre sitting on your ass talking to your coworkers and watching videos in the front instead of actually working. FIRST TIME COMING TO PEP BOYS AND LAST. Employees will waste your time and make it take longer than it actually does just out of pure laziness. read more

I used to be a loyal client, but after getting a brake job here at the end of March, I've had nothing but problems. Soon after, I started hearing noise and squeaking. The first time, they fixed the noise, but the squeaking never went away. I came back several times asking them to recheck it, but the answer was always the same: "We don't see any issue, the squeak should fix itself with time." Today I even recorded how bad the squeaking is and showed it at check-in. After waiting, the response I got again was: "We don't see any issue. Maybe it could be solved with grease, but that would be an extra charge." I'm totally disappointed with this place. They charge you, don't solve the problem, and then suggest charging more for something that should have been done right the first time. read more

I do not recommend this place. Brought my car in at 9am on a Tuesday. I was told I would hear back in about an hour and a half about what the issue was. I had to call and leave a voicemail because they don't answer the phones. They said I needed a belt and tensioner, I said ok and also asked for an oil change they said no problem. I asked how long it would take, they said about 2 hours. I showed up at 3:30pm since I had not heard back. They forgot the oil change. I said fine. I turn my car on and it's now making a different noise. They took it back in and came out saying it's the water pump and was quoted $637.00. I asked if I could drive it without damaging anything. I was assured I could drive it. Next day, my battery light turns on, I can no longer steer my car, I had to pull the wheel with all I could to pull over to the side. Coolant was all over the ground. The belt they had changed fell off. Had to get the car towed. They put the car back together along with a water pump on Thursday but the car was still making a loud noise. Since I had already missed two days of work that week already, I said I would bring the car back the following week. They claim they didn't hear the noise. I asked the guy at the front desk to drive with me in the lot and he heard it. He said it was the tensioner. I asked isn't that what was changed the first day I brought it? He said yes. By that time it was already 2pm so I said I would bring the car back Saturday so they can correct their mistake. I dropped my car off on Friday after work so they had the car all day Saturday. I checked in by 3pm since I hadn't heard back only to find out they said it's the power steering pump that just got there so they would need to keep it Sunday to get it put on. When I got it back the noise was still there. They had my car a total of 5 days and could not figure out the noise. I called corporate they said the area director would call me. When he called he asked if I wanted to go to another location to get it looked at. I said fine. He asked me to give him til the next day because it was 4:40pm already and he had to call around to find out where I could go. He didn't called me. I took my car to a different place to find out that Pep boys broke the bolt that was supposed to hold the tensioner in place. read more

I've lived in broadview over 20 years. My entire family has always gone to this pepboys. It wasn't uNeil I was older that I realized that we shouldn't have to drop our cars off for 8 hours for a simple oil change or cancel plans even when we had an appointment scheduled. This pepboys is truly, truly the worst car experiences I've ever known and I've verbally told everyone I know to avoid this place but recently I had my LAST disposable experience with them. I was only going out of convenience but never again. Never! I had new tires out on in December of 2020 and the front passenger one kept being low on air. Another shop told me it was the stem so I took it in to get repaired by pepboys since they did the original repair. Long story short I was told I needed to purchase a new tire because it could not be repaired. After over an hour of having my dad and husband call the shop they were told that in fact it was only the stem, a $22 repair opposed to the $200 I was being told for a new tire. If there weren't men in my life I would've been another women lied to by an auto shop simply because they could. I'm so disturbed by my experience. Wince, as always was dismissive and the clerk who helped me (I believe Dee was his name) was not knowledgeable at all and continued to tell my husband I was lying about what he had just told me I needed to pay for over the phone. Once it was all resolved I got home to realize that my center cap was missing. It's never ending poor service with them. Just don't go here. Go to discount tires or wherever other options you have because the convenience is just not worth the headache especially since they're going to take 100 hours anyway. read more

We made an 8am appointment in-person several days ahead to get 2 new tires for our small Sprinter van RV. We selected the tires to make sure they had the right size in stock and were very clear about what type of vehicle we had. We dropped the van off promptly and were told to check back mid-day. At around 1pm we called and were told that our van was too big to fit in the service bay and it would be 1-2 more hours. I dropped my husband off at 4pm to pick up the van (because I cannot drive after dark) and it was still in the lot, clearly not done. It was nearly 6pm before they "finished" - so late that we had to cancel our plans for the evening. As if the slow, unapologetic service weren't bad enough, one of the hub caps flew off on the highway within 20 miles on our first drive because it was clearly installed improperly. We are still trying to find replacement hubcaps & will probably have to buy a matching pair if we can find any at all. In the several hours that my husband was waiting, he heard a number of employees and customers talking about how Pep Boys is prioritizing their new Hertz rental car service ahead of regular customers - even those with appointments - and how they do not have sufficient staff to handle the work. If they could not accommodate us competently, they should not have made an appointment for us. Instead of Manny, Moe & Jack, we got Larry, Moe & Curly. Going to Pep Boys was an expensive and time-consuming mistake. read more

I've been to numerous pep boys over the years, but this one ha been disappointing recently and provided the the worst experience. Dropped car off early morning to have tires checked. Didn't hear anything. Drove to location late in the day and saw the car still parked in exact location I left it. Called the store to ask for status. Saw gentleman come out of store and move the car. Guy on phone said car was being looked at but they wouldn't have time to look at tires. In other words, I suspect they forgot to even look at the car and only when I called did they realize they forgot. Incredible. Avoid this location until they improve. The tech lost some oil we bought in for an oil change with filter and he stated we were short 1 1/2 quarts, we had a sealed 5 quart bottle of oil. This vehicle takes 5 quarts with filter as I have changed it many times before this. I could not work on her vehicle this time do to hand surgery. I was disappointed with this visit. Made an appointment using the website. Got there10 mins. before my appointment and was told it would take 1 to 1 1/2 hours to do a standard oil change. It took 2 hours! Staff looked uninterested in the customers and the customers looked unhappy. The cost of service was supposed to be 37.50. I mentioned I had a 10.00 coupon. They played a fast one and when it was time to pay they made my bill for 47.50 and then with the 10.00 coupon applied my bill still came to 37.50. If I could give zero stars, I certainly would. I bought my car to the Broadview location on 06/2022 because my AC went out. After having my car for a few days, they call to tell me it needs a new compressor. I pay the $1200 for it and thought all was well. Fast forward to almost exactly 2 years to the date of the alleged repair of my car. Guess what is not working, if you say the air, you've guessed right. I'm just a shocked as you are but was even more in shock when I took the car back to them and they told me I needed another compressor! They couldn't give me a logical explanation of why the so called new one no longer work and then making me aware that the compressor they put in was actually a remanufactured one. I know that they told me they were putting a new one in. Even after 2 years, a remanufactured one should not quit working. I'm not even going to discuss how disrespectful one of their employees was toward me. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Took my car there on a Saturday for a power steering leak. They told me they'd get the proper hoses by Monday. One hose was discontinued the other they would get by Wednesday. Need the car back they gave it back to me with no power steering fluid and I was able to find the parts easily online. Went in for routine oil change without any issues. The "mechanic" intentionally broke by outer tire rod. The Pep Boys shop try to tell me that tire rods spontaneously break, as if this was some 'magical' shop that makes Peo Boys more money. So, they will intentionally brake your car, leaving you hostage and making your vehicle undrivable. I have informed the BBB and will be filling with small claims court. Based on the many bad reviews of this place, it's clear this is a universal problem there. Stay way at all cost, even for routine work. read more

Hope I can save others the misery and the four figure $$ repair bill this unprofessional Pep Boys outfit caused. My recommendation is pay a couple bucks more anywhere else and you will be WAY better off. Purchased 4 Cooper tires for my SUV. Liked fair price and tires seem fine. Buts that's all. 2,500 miles from installation my front wheel broke away from the vehicle. Lucky no one injured or killed. The tow truck driver said someone forgot to tighten lugs. My local mechanic saw what was left of damaged hub and said they did not tighten lugs. The body shop that eventually fixed the body damage and replaced all the damaged wheel parts said the other wheel front lugs were not tightened either and that wheel ready to snap off too. Rest of story. After losing the wheel, I had the SUV towed back to the Pep Boys where I had the work done -- based on their tow drivers comment that whoever put the tire on did not tighten the lugs. For weeks I cordially tried for a response from store manager. I was ignored, put on hold, hung up on, treated rudely when asking if they were honorable to the damage they caused. I was referred to corporate, referred back to the district manager, back to the store manager with a different name each spin - on and on. Finally - after ignoring me for over a month (yes - SUV sat outside their door for 4-5 weeks on its damaged disc brake) they finally said they reviewed their video and did not see anything wrong with the installation - in other words I could go pound sand. As if the video is going to show anything, or even if a video ever existed. I asked to see the video to satisfy myself... I was again ignored, the right store manager was never there when go to location, left on hold, treated rude and hung up on etc. They won - waited me out. I had the SUV towed from their location to a body shop and repaired. $$ later and every time I drive the SUV I am reminded what a dishonest, un-honorable, unprofessional and horrible outfit Pep Boys is. I have been going to Pep boys for Years for service, 1 Month ago I went for oil change and they left oil cap loose and for 3 days I'm driving with oil leaking on my engine and everywhere under hood. I went to them when they opened and they did my oil change over and said sorry about that. I asked them about all the oil under Hood, I expected them to clean it considering my car wasn't like that when I brought it to them. The worker said "Oh it will dry out" That was a dangerous situation driving like that and they didn't Care. Called Corporate got a case # and Guess what. Corporate Never responded. I went to this location only because I absolutely hate the Cicero location. I came in simply to have my car horn replaced. I had to wait for 10 minutes to even be acknowledged, because the mechanic behind the computer was too busy trying to get the phone number of the customer in front of me. After unsuccessfully getting his mack on, he then proceeded to tell me that the person who knew how to fix/replace horns had already left for the day and wouldn't be back until the next day. I was a little puzzled, seeing as how it was only 9am in the morning. What, the other 6 mechanics there couldn't fix/replace a car horn? Seriously? When I asked about this, I was given the "shrug" and was told to come back the next day. Don't waste your time with Pep Boys. We made an appointment for an oil change at 9 am. Nothing difficult. Pep Boys had overbooked. We got pushed to 11. BF brings it back at 11. It still took them 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete. Why? Because they overbooked for the day. We had made the appointment to simplify the day and so we could be in and out in 20 minutes. Two weeks later... The oil change required notification pops up on my car. She hadn't been leaking oil. My guess? Pep boys didn't reset the clock on the oil change. The people working in this shop act like they don't care about customers, came in today for an oil change, the guy at the counter tells me they have an hour and a half wait period, so I said ok I'll wait, trying to understand these are not normal times ( with the pandemic still going), but after awhile I saw 2 of the mechanics just hanging around, making it look like they are not to busy, but they look young, and I told myself maybe they don't have the experience for that, but after two and half hours I went to the counter and asked how much longer I have to wait and those two guys look at each other like they dropped the ball and very calmly said it will be done in half an hour, I asked for my key and left they didn't even apologize or anything like they do not care if a customer walks out on them, needless to say I will be looking for another place to get my oil change. read more

I called PepBoys in Broadview on June 11th, 2018 at 7:46am to see if they had a specific filter for my car. The representative verified that they did not have the actual air filter and he needed to order it. He told me that it would get to the store the same day and that PepBoys would call me when it arrived. PepBoys called me at 2pm on the dot and told me that the filter arrived and that I could come in and get it put in. I asked him what time they closed and he told me 8pm. I asked him that if I come in around 7:30pm (since I was coming from work) would they still be able to put it in. He assured me that they would. I get to the store around 7:35pm and I encountered Walter who was at the front of the store. I asked him about the filter I ordered and he sent another employee (Spanish guy) to the back to go get it for me. I proceeded to pay for it and before I completed the transaction, I asked them if they can put it in now or I would have to wait. Walter told me that they couldn't put it in because they close at 8pm and the only technician in the back was busy. He did not ask the technician in the back before telling me that it couldn't be done. Since it wasn't too busy, I asked him if he could do it. He told me that he couldn't leave the front. I asked him if he could do it at 8pm when the store closed. He told me, " NO, I'M LEAVING AT 8PM!" I was so upset. He was not trying to help me at all, even though it takes 5 minutes to replace the filter. I then asked him if he would actually go back there to ask the technician if he could do it. He came back and told me, "Oh yea, he said he would do it. Just pull you car out to the back" REALLY?? Not only was time wasted but if he would have actually had a helpful spirit, all this would have been done with. I paid for my filter and left to the back. I drove my car to the back and John did not hesitate to help me. He replaced my filter in less than 5 minutes. I was so thankful. Walter was horrible. John was not. Thanks John for your help. I only gave a 2 star versus just 1 star because Of John's help. Other employees have been helpful with all of my other encounters as well. Unfortunately, this wasn't a really good one. read more

I honestly feel like the customer service is horrible. They don't greet you with a smile or make you feel welcomed there. They make you feel like you are inconveniencing them by coming to get car repairs. The mechanics seem great. I would like to think the prices are fair if not they are always having a sale or sending coupons. But my whole thing is don't send coupons and expect customers not to use them. Anyone with common sense would like to save money. Sales rep states, "oh that took off more than it should have." No you charged me more than you should have. I have to agree with Zakia's assessment. As a fleet manager for 10 trucks I need a 1 stop shop that can get my trucks in and out of there pretty quickly. I can't afford to have guys sitting around on the payroll for a 2 hour oil change. Well, I contacted their fleet division to set up an account. After reviewing all of the truck makes and models that we have, I was assured that the Naperville Pep Boys could handle our specifications. They even said they could have the truck worked on after hours (our hours) and dropped off at our location. How disappointing this has been!! Our first truck went in for an oil change. My technician showed up 2 hrs later and said that he had just left because he couldn't wait any longer and they hadn't even brought the vehicle in the garage yet. The second truck, a Ford F250, went in a week or so later for an alignment. I got a phone call from the shop that said the truck was too long for their equipment. I was surprised as the Ford F250 is not an uncommon vehicle. We have an Isuzu box truck that won't even fit in the garage (this in spite of the fact that I gave them the height, length when I set the account up). Without belaboring the issue further, their service has been virtually nonexistent. There has not been a single time that I sent a truck over there that it got serviced in anything that resembles a reasonable amount of time. I'm not even talking about advanced repairs. I'm talking about generic brake work, alignments, oil changes, etc. Needless to say I'm in the market for a company that can support us with minimal hassle. Pep Boys isn't it. What I would tell you is to read my review for Priz Auto in Naperville and if you have the means, take your car there. He'd be my first choice for my fleet as well if he was closer to my shop. You can't beat that guy's pricing and the quality of work on your vehicle. He's a crabby old guy but let me tell you he is magic with a wrench!! read more

Worst place ever to take your car!! I have had to bring my car back there 3times after they supposedly fixed it over $3000 worth of work!! These people are some scammers‼ they do stuff to your car so you will have to bring it back to them and break something else. The manger MIKE is dumb asf he has no customer service at all!! I had a warning because there was a woman cursing him out the very 1st time I took my car in last month. I should've took that warning and left then. The manager is no HELP he needs to be FIRED!! This location has a car rental agency on site. I tried calling that number and the phone call wasn't going thru. It would loop me back to the main Pep Boys menu. I ended up getting thru to a guy in the Pep Boys store. He could care less about my problem of not getting thru. Wouldn't bother leaving them a message for me or looking into the phone problem. Just told me that if I needed to talk to them then maybe I should just come in. Then he was through talking and hung up on me. I called back. I asked for his name and he refused to give it to me. He was defiant in trying to help me out. I ended up complaining to headquarters and they said that was not how their customer service was supposed to handle my call. Pep boys Mechanic explained me that oil pan is cracked and needs to be replaced. It's dangerous to drive, insisted to get it fixed right away.. same day I took my car to Orland Best in Orland Park. To my biggest surprise, I was told that there is no crack, oil pan is intact.. not to mention, my estimate was 30$ only! read more
