I've been trying to get my daughter to check out the Urbana farmer's market since last year. She…read morenever got up early enough to make it. I was on campus this past Saturday. We were planning on doing something else, but decided to stay in the C-U area so we didn't get to the market until 11:30, they close at noon. Some vendors were packing up and some sold most of their goods. Since we weren't planning on going to the farmer's market, I had already purchased a bunch of produce and meat for her at Whole Foods. I wish I hadn't. The produce at this market looked so good. They had good amount of produce and meat vendors. Prices seemed very reasonable. They had vendors that sold baked goods, jewelry, bags, soap, etc. The downside for students is the distance from campus and hours. I told my daughter she should coax a friend with a car to go with her. We were hungry and decided to check out a food truck. I don't know if there are usually more food trucks, but there were only 2 when we were there. The home football game may have effected the number of trucks. We chose Piato. I opted to try the farmers breakfast sandwich and my daughter tried the Carolina pulled pork sandwich. She wanted biscuits and gravy, but the ran out of biscuits. I enjoyed my sandwich. It was on sourdough bread, fried egg, cheddar and sausage. I liked it wasn't greasy. My daughter enjoyed the pulled pork. She even liked the cole slaw that came on top of the sandwich. She chose the bourbon sugar bbq sauce and said it was really good. We also got a fresh squeezed lemonade. We didn't enjoy that as much. We think it may have been sweetened with stevia. It had a weird aftertaste which is why we think it wasn't sugar. We don't like stevia. All in all, would definitely eat here again. Reasonable prices and friendly service!

Really nice Farmers Market. A lot of great fresh produce, baked goods, cheese and interesting items…read morefor sale. Also plenty of food trucks and wonderful things to eat. A lot of parking available too. We were visiting the area and the market was a real treat to visit on Saturday morning. Definitely plan to return.

I was in town from Florida and this was a great place to savor the Midwest fall experience. I selected one of the beautiful mum plants for my Aunt and Uncle. I loved the pumpkins and squash of all sizes displayed in various bins and baskets. I wanted to back my car up to the gift shop and a take a lot of items home. They offer local popcorn, jams and candy apples, decor items and cooking tools like aprons with catchy phrases. They had a lamp I really wanted but was not sure it would fit in my car with my luggage. I found the staff very nice and willing to interact with you. They would answer questions but also let you browse and look as much as you wanted. Snother surprising thing was the animals were so friendly. Some of the alpacas came right up to me over the fence and the kitties got up from sunning themselves to greet me. I loved the clever signs and the old truck parked in front of the sunflower field. If you are looking for fall photo back drops this is the place. They serve drinks and have a picnic area. Although I was in town too early for the pumpkin festival, I felt like I got a good sampling of activities on my visit to Ackerman's Farm and the parking was very convenient.

It's a beautiful farm, with lots of activities for the whole family. I love the gift shop,…read moreespecially when buying pumpkin everything!

So when I arrived at the Amtrak station, I asked one of the helpful agents, what I had just seen. He informed me that it was the mid-week farmers market. When I was done with my very short meeting, I took off to explore this delightful little market. It was only about two blocks long, but it had an amazing assortment of vendors. Traveling by train for the day, I was limited to what I could buy, If I lived local, I would have had shopping bags full. I did buy some scones from one bakery, for a snack later in the day and for my breakfast the next morning. Again, if I were local, I would have bought some fresh vegetables, homemade sausage, fresh flowers and so much more. The vendors that I spoke with were good ole country friendly and I could sense their passion in the products they were offering. In addition to the vendors, a local radio station was broadcasting live outside one of the near-by restaurants. Music to shop by is always a nice touch. As i left the market, I wandered in a different direction then when I arrived and stumble upon a sign alerting parkers not to utilize a lot on Friday night and Saturday. Why? It's saved for the Saturday, Farmers Market. So, I can only imagine the Farmer's Market on Saturday must be BIGGER and BETTER. When: June 23, 2021 Why: In town for meeting - out exploring downtown
