I do NOT recommend this clinic. I brought my dog, Gucci, in for a surgical procedure on 24th of February and what followed was one of the most stressful and upsetting experiences I've ever had! At discharge, I was told that sutures and surgical glue were used and that everything was secure. I trusted that information and brought my dog home believing he would heal properly. He cried nonstop the entire ride home and continued crying for two days straight. I couldn't even sleep because of how much he was suffering. Just a few days later, on February 28, his incision completely opened and began bleeding heavily. I could actually see inside the wound. On top of that, he was struggling to breathe. It was terrifying. I had no choice but to rush him to an emergency Trumbull Veterinary Hospital, where they had to properly suture the wound and stabilize him with additional treatment and medication. This resulted in significant, unexpected expenses that should have never happened if the original procedure had been done correctly. To make matters worse, I noticed scratches near his private area and called the clinic. I was dismissed and told it was probably razor burn, but it looked like careless cuts. My dog was in extreme pain. Now my service dog has anxiety due to this malpractice. I followed all post-op instructions carefully, so there is no excuse for the wound reopening like that. (no he did not lick his wound because he had his cone and prevented him from getting there) This situation caused serious physical harm to my dog and emotional distress for both of us. Based on my experience, I strongly believe there was a lack of proper care and professionalism. I would not trust this clinic with any animals again. I will be filing a formal complaint. read more

Hello I won't recommend this place. It sadness me to say this but my friend to her cat to get neutered there yesterday and she had a terrible experience. They couldn't find his testicles they said so they did not do the surgery the terrible thing is that they did the check under anesthesia. When they called her they did not let her go pickup her cat until the end of the day. They also did not want to refund her money they wanted her to give it as a donation. When she got home with the Cat he was very aggressive,trying to attack her he was not himself. She had a terrible night with her her fur child. They should let the owner stay until they check the animal and not do it under anesthesia. My friends cat had a bad experience. read more

I contacted people for animals in February regarding having my dog neutered. I received an immediate response, providing me with an application and was told that they aren't booking any animals until June and somebody would get back to me within two weeks to schedule my appointment. Note- I immediately returned the complete application. Three weeks later I followed up with an email four weeks later I followed up with another email five weeks later I followed up with a phone call six weeks later I followed up with another phone call and email still no response. This place is unprofessional, and I would never trust them with my animal based off of their poor customer service. read more

Recently had my puppy neutered here. It was a great experience from beginning to end. Once I submitted a request for an appointment, I was emailed promptly with directions on what needed to be sent, then was given a date about a month out. They are a high volume clinic, but we only waited about a month for our appointment. They sent very clear instructions for the surgery, and how to proceed on the day of. Upon check in, the front desk staff were very prompt & courteous. I picked up Billy a little after 3:15PM. The vet tech explained everything really well. My puppy's recovery was very easy. They lied. And then they don't return your phone calls. My sister's baby's legs became paralyzed and then developed into myelopathy. I woke up early and sat in my car for check in for them to tell me that my appointment was in 4 months from now cause that's how far they are booking out. I had adopted kittens from an organization that used this Vet clinic as their neuter/spay center. I wasn't fond of the check in protocol because the website kept crashing. The parking lot was super tight and hard to maneuver. The 2 staff people I interacted with were friendly. But the cones were not placed on the kittens. That was not an easy task for us to be left with at home. Our kittens freaked out bad. I have been monitoring them since yesterday because I'm concerned about their crazy outbursts consequences in their condition. So far knock on wood they are well. So really it was more not having the cones on their necks, their website, and parking lot need improvement that didn't fancy me. TERRIBLE!! So I've tried to make an appointment with this clinic SEVERAL TIMES based off the recommendation of someone whose come here. Since Covid (I'm assuming) appointments can only be made online. There is a section SPECIFICALLY that does testing for Heart worms-GREAT! That's what I'm looking for. The first time I tried to make an appointment- I didn't get anywhere and never was able to get an appointment. The 2nd time, I made the appointment online at which it said someone would call me back - 3 weeks later I'm still waiting on a call !! So I decided to call myself. Someone finally called me back only to say- yeah we don't deal with heart worms you have to go somewhere else. I said "Miss- it's on the website!!" Then she says "ohh but we're super backed up we don't have appointments until April- wait we don't have appointments until February" (this is what she says). I'm like FINE- sign me up!! Then she's like "ohhh but you really shouldn't wait that long you should go somewhere else. I'm like "Miss- I waited this long I just really need to make an appointment!!!!" She's like yeah but you need to go somewhere else. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!?? It's never been sooo DIFFICULT to give a business - money!!!! These dedicated volunteers and staff who make this clinic run are superb human beings. They make caring for adopted pets and the countless stray population easy to do. My experience there was fantastic. I came with my newly adopted cat Oliver for reproductive altering, early in the morning, and hours later, picked him up after a full set of tests, the surgical procedure, and nail clipping under sedation, very satisfied indeed. Please be careful when you bring your pets here. I brought my cat here to get spayed and three days later, I found out her claw was missing !!! I was so shocked I ran back here and told them her claw is completely gone. They basically said it didn't happen in their clinic it must've happened in my house. As God as my witness, she did NOT claw her nail off in my house because i was with her in my office the whole time. No blood no scratching when I was with her. I ate and sleep in the office with her. I took her here and they said she's fine it's healed. 2 weeks later, infected. I paid over $200 bill from another vet. Check your pets before leaving their office. My vet along with others I called charged about $500. I finally found this place in NJ. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. My 100th review on Yelp might be something to brag about (woohoo!) but People for Animals administer care and services to probably just as many animals on any given day! Now that's something to be proud of! I've been here now a total of three times in the last few months. Each time it is just lines of people dropping off or picking up their cats and dogs for spay and neuter surgeries along with dozens of people waiting for wellness services for their pets. That said, everything is SUPER organized. You end up never waiting as long as it might first appear. It's a well-oiled machine of basic veterinary services. My first experience with People for Animals was last summer after having 6 feral cats from my neighborhood trapped (personally trapping them) and, working with the wonderful people at Companion Animal Trust out of Jersey City and the Petsmart Neuter Scooter, the feral cats were sent to Hillside for their surgeries and shots. The feral cats were returned back out on the street (note: numerous attempts were made to home and adopt them but to no avail) and shortly after that two new stray kittens joined the colony. One at a time they were trapped and I drove them out to have their surgeries and shots in Hillside. The process is affordable, safe and a service that should really be applauded since it helps to reduce pet populations in an effective and humane way. The last feral that I brought here was two weeks ago. She ended up having an assortment of issues: bladder infection, worms and fleas. A People for Animals vet called me and asked if I would like to approve treatment for all of the above. Of course I did and the flea med, deworming and antibiotic came out to about $30. If I had to try and get this feral cat fixed and treated at a regular veterinary clinic I would have been out of hundreds of dollars. This place is a godsend to anyone out there working with feral cat populations. It is also invaluable to those that are low income and need their dog or cat neutered and vaccinated - services that would probably be avoided if they had to pay the fees that a vet clinic would charge. I also brought my own pet cat here yesterday for her booster shot a year after her initial kitten vaccinations. It cost me $18. No office visit. No service fees. Just $18. People for Animals do NOT perform annual physicals, blood work or treatment of injuries and illnesses. That should all be done with your primary veterinarian. However, if you need to spay, neuter, vaccinate, microchip or test your animal for basic diseases (heart worms, felv/FIV, fecal test) then People for Animals is the way to go - especially if you're working with feral cats or just can't afford the fees that your regular vet would charge you for these basic services. No appointment is necessary, all wellness services are done on a first come, first serve basis. I came in with two cats yesterday and while the waiting room was packed, I was in and out in just under an hour for a visit that included a booster shot for my pet cat and a second dose of deworming and vaccines for a no-longer-so-feral-after-two-weeks-of-captivity cat. I was really worried about taking my small puppy here because I like my usual vet. However, they estimated the neutering costs at $650 (low) - $800 (high if there are complications). What?! PFA offered the services for $110! I was a little weary to pay that little for the surgery but a lot of my friends vouched for PFA. I also was told they had neutered my cat (before I had adopted him) and he seemed fine. Only one friend had a horror story, which still made me nervous but it was one out of about fifteen people. So, I made the appointment. For the neutering, e-collar, pain meds, microchip, Neuter Scooter (to take my dog to and from Hillside FOR me, which was so worth it) and also, a small donation, it came out to be less than $170. It was easy to make the appointment online. Two days prior, they called me to remind me to pay the bill, which was also easy to do online. When I got to the Petco to drop him off at 7 am, he and some other dogs were barking like crazy. The driver was a little late but he was super nice. He checked everyone in individually. He went over everything I had paid for. He also was SO gentle with my puppy and all the other dogs. At 4:45 pm, i went back to Petco near my house, I was a little late this time due to traffic but the Neuter Scooter was there. Another vet tech was there but she was super nice also. She talked to each of us individually and the after care for my dog. She even told me it was good that I paid extra for the pain meds. He didn't seem groggy at all. We went straight home, he cried for a few hours because he was hungry but I had to wait until 8 pm for meds and food. He ate the food, no vomiting. The next day, he was already fine and trying to play tug of war with me. He's been healing up great and seems to be doing fine. I easily registered his microchip online (and it's free to change the address/contact info if anything happens all online). Definitely a fan and really appreciate all they did for my baby! I was a bit nervous bringing my fur baby here and not to my vet but it was included in the adoption. I highly recommend this veterinary service. They did a top notch job with neutering, microchip, tattoo and I even had his nails cut and it was well done. They informed me that he had had diarrhea and he was all cleaned up. I don't have enough nice things to say about this place. I decided to take my rescued cat to PFA to get spayed because it was a lot cheaper than the regular vet. I am an animal lover and was very nervous before my cats surgery thinking about all the things that could go wrong since this is a learning facility. Nonetheless, I must say that my experience was a great one. I arrived at 8:00 am instead of 8:15 am, which is their check in time for cats, in order to leave my cat. Before taking my cat, they went ober everything I had asked and even gave me a tshirt for the donation I had decided to make, since according to them, a $20 donation was big. Anyways, I left the cat and called vack at around 1:00 pm to know about her. They were more than willing to let me know about her condition, telling me that everything had gone smoothly and that she was in the recuperation area. After I picked her up at 4:30 pm I was told not to let her out of her kennel until 8:00 pm, which I didn't. Once she was out, she was being herself and had no signs of any problems. If you are looking for a safe, immaculately clean veterinary clinic with a professional staff who really love animals PFA is your place. My wife and I are sort of fanatical about our pets care, he's like a baby to us. I know that sounds lame but I bet you feel the same way about your own pet. PFA did a great job of calming our nerves and assuring us that everything would be fine. We dropped off our pup around 715 as instructed. The lobby was a little crowded but the staff makes the line move fast and we only waited about ten minutes which is not bad. We picked our boy up at 330 and he came running out to us, tail up and happy. Considering what he'd just had done I was happily surprised and relieved to see him looking so fit and happy. We received written after care instructions and took our pup home to recuperate without incident. Suggestions: get there early, like I said there will be a line. Buy the pain Meds, they're inexpensive and obviously you don't want your pet to be in pain. The cone is your own choice. We found that a tee shirt put on our pup backwards tail thru neck hole, legs thru sleeves, twisted and knotted securely at the top on his back was a much better alternative. This protects the incision without the dreaded cone and works brilliantly. But that's your own decision. Last suggestion, if you can, give PFA a small donation. They work very hard for the pets and do an amazing job. I highly recommend People for Animals and wish you and your pals good health. read more
