My Shih Tzu to the right (black and white) passed away
Leo C.

I don't recommend this place. Upon arrival the Dr gave us his prices as if it we did not have the money to pay. I took my two Shih Tzu's for a check up. One was peeing blood clots and the other had mucus coming out his eye and ear infection. I was told both dogs are doing fine and the one peeing blood clots may be due to his diet. Apparently we were over feeding him. The dog was 20 pounds and ate twice a day half a cup of food. It made no sense. When I explained the dogs eating habits the Dr he didn't listen and said stop over feeding him. After spending 600 in check ups and x-rays, I decided take both dogs to the vet office I use for the French Bulldog as a second opinion. The Dr at the new office immediately noticed the dog who peed blood clots was pale, dehydrated and weak. She ran another x-ray, administered fluids and requested and full lab analysis. The Dr believed the dog may have a tumor in his bladder. The new Dr requested an Ultrasound of the bladder to confirm her belief and it turned out that the dog had a tumor in his spleen. The specialist set us up with an appointment for surgery but my dog did not make it for surgery. My dog all of a sudden stopped breathing and lost consciousness the day before surgery. I took him to the pet ER in Clifton where he passed away. He was only 8 years old. This crushed me and my family. There was nothing wrong with my dogs diet. The Dr at this office never mentioned a possible tumor, he never requested labs or an Ultrasound. Could we have caught this sooner if the Dr ran the same test the new Dr did? Did this Dr not run additional test because he thought we could not cover the expense? I have to deal with these questions every day. My second Shih Tzu has bad allergies, is losing his eye sight in one eye and has a chronic ear infection. The new Dr gave us allergy medication which is helping and eye drops to help produce tears. She also odered a full lab analysis. My second dog also had a tumor in his testicles and a mass growing on his rectal area. This is the same dog the Dr at this office said was fine. No testing was requested by this Dr for this dog either. The new Dr sent us to a specialist to see if surgery can be done for the second dog since he is 12 years old. Lucky for us the dog was fit for surgery and it went very well. He is now recovering nicely.

Great doctor, patient and honest. Other vets seem to always push tests and shots and he doesn't.

They are friendly, affordable, and professional. I was actually surprised at how quickly they were able to do my dog Zero's vaccines, wellness check, and routine bloodwork. One thing to note- I initially wanted to get Zero's teeth cleaned soon and the doctor advised me he does not need it for another 6 months to a year - something rare in medical practice , they usually push you to spend money. It was easy to book an appointment , staff was responsive to my questions, and the facility was clean. Highly recommend!

Dr. Dolin nd his team at Essex have been treating our pets for over four years. When it was time for us to get pet visas so that we could take them to France, we relied on them to help us. We were in great hands! We discussed what we wanted to do with Dr. Dolin several months in advance. He explained what the process was: vaccination requirements, the importance of properly timing them, the paperwork involved, how to best to prepare them for the trip and what to do during the trip to keep them comfortable. The office scheduled the vaccination and follow up appointments for us for all 4 pets. Once our pets had all of their vaccinations, Dr. Dolin filled out all of the paperwork and told us how we should post the applications to Albany. Everything went swimmingly. If you need passports, it is really important to work with a vet who is familiar with the process. Essex are pros at this!

I strongly advise against taking your pet to this vet. I've waited 2.5 years to write this review…read morebecause the experience we had here was so upsetting, and the impact on my dog and our family has been life-changing. We took our 1.5-year-old golden retriever here to be neutered, and the entire process was a nightmare from start to finish. When my husband dropped him off, the waiting area was full of dogs--an overwhelming environment for any pet, especially ours, who is naturally anxious. Later that day, the vet called me to say the surgery "went well," but then they added the following: "Your dog is very nervous and anxious. He even jumped when a tool dropped on the floor. He was one of the most difficult dogs I've ever neutered. When I used anesthesia to put him under, it didn't work, so I had to use more. That resulted in him 'deciding to stop breathing.' But don't worry, we have procedures in place to help him breathe again. You should have him checked by another doctor or a neurologist. You don't want this nervousness to lead to something like seizures." I was shocked and upset. First of all, blaming our dog for stopping breathing is incredibly unprofessional. Second, why would they overdose him with anesthesia if the first dose didn't take? I asked if he was okay, and they assured me he was but said they wanted to keep him overnight. Third, my husband and I questioned "Why on earth would we worry about him having a seizure? What does that have to do with anything." Four days later, I witnessed my dog have his first seizure at home. It was absolutely traumatizing and unexpected. When my husband called the vet to ask about it, the front desk staff made a shocking statement: "Oh, yeah, that's how he acted during his first seizure." This was news to us. My husband asked for clarification--was she saying he had a seizure at the clinic? She immediately put him on hold, and another staff member took over the call. They refused to confirm or deny what happened but said they were "worried this might happen." We ended up having no choice but to take him to a neurologist. When I asked for notes from the day of the surgery, they were completely illegible. It almost seemed intentional, as if they were trying to hide something. Since that day, our dog has had over 30 seizures. He is a completely different dog ever since - his demeanor, personality, and quality of life have changed drastically. We've had to try countless medications to help him. It's been a devastating journey, and it all started at this vet. I've never regretted something more than us dropping him off there that day. To make matters even worse, we can't find any daycare place that will allow him to be around other dogs because of his seizures. We can't give him tick and flea medicine because it can trigger seizures even more. We can't give him ANY kind of anti-anxiety medications because they interact with his seizure medication, further increasing his seizure risk. The list goes on and on. We can no longer have people over to our house because he gets extremely anxious--something that NEVER happened before this experience. Even going out for a simple dinner is nearly impossible because he can't handle having anyone else walk him. Keep in mind, this is a golden retriever--known for being friendly and easygoing. It costs thousands of dollars for us to go away for even a short trip because he needs to stay at a specialized facility capable of administering his medication and handling his seizures. We've even had to contemplate the unthinkable--rehoming him--because we're expecting a baby. The stress of managing his care is overwhelming, and in the end, who would even want a dog with such high needs? A dog that doesn't like to be around people, requires multiple medications a day, and has ongoing health challenges? I don't know what truly happened during his surgery, but I do know that this clinic failed him. The lack of transparency, the unprofessional handling of his care, and their negligence have forever changed our lives and his.

This place may seem on the surface like a great vet but it's a money grab. For the people that have…read morebeen here let me know if this is your experience. 1. You get told to NOT purchase vet insurance till you hear their pitch. Then you are pressured on your first visit to buy super overpriced pet insurance that "creates by vets for vets" with some reasoning that it covers everything which isn't true. I pay like $40 a month and theirs was like $150 or more. And it only covers major things. They are clearly getting a kickback on this, of course it was designed by vets. Secondly, have you gotten to the checkout to find out you were charged an exorbitant amount for something you were not told about. They charged us $65 to clean the dogs ears!! Wtf. Our current vet does it for free. 3. They immediately stuck us on prescription dog food that we had to buy from them at over $100 a bag. 4. They never call you with results, it's all on you. Which actually speaks volumes as to whether or not they actually care. Even if something was wrong, you wouldn't find out unless you called. 5. Some of the staff are Just self righteous. They will lecture you about going to breeders, they allude to "having issues" before they even examine the dog. If you are wondering why this is the only vet that isn't booked. This is why. So if you want to pay 30% or more for everything this is the place. We have at least 3 neighbors who have left here as well.

We asked our neighbors and got almost universal recommendations from neighbors to Foster Animal Hospital. We would hear, "Doctor Barrow is excellent." "Doctor Aziz came by my house. He's just so incredible and caring." "Nearly everyone in this block goes to Doctor Aziz." Wow. They were right. What a difference once we got to Foster! After our first visit, we said "Looks like we found our new vet." Everyone is incredibly friendly and has a genuine care for your animal. These people LOVE animals and it shows in everything they do. The vet techs and doctors take as much time as you need, answer your questions, explain everything, and treat pets (and their owners) with love and care. The front desk team is somehow always on-the-ball with scheduling, billing, and reception. We're never waiting to be seen long. They are up-front, honest, fair, and transparent when it comes to costs, which I appreciate. Parking lot is huge and the location is super convenient. It's easy to understand why so many people recommend Foster Animal Hospital and I'm pleased to be one of them. Tell them Malory sent you
