Completely satisfied with the work that was done for me by Penyak Roofing. I've been in my house for many decades. I have had repairs done in the past by them and this time I had a complete tear off and roof replacement including adding ridge vents. I was completely satisfied with the job. They also replaced my shutters. Always Very professional. Always Excellent workmanship. And very competitive pricing. This is a real old time established company and not just a guy operating out of the back of a pickup truck. I would recommend them highly read more

Excellent experience with Penyak. They were incredibly customer focused and available to answer all my questions. It only took a day to have my roof done! The roofers were professional and super clean and I felt the price was fair. I would highly recommend. read more

It took 5 weeks and 3 crews to install a skylight in my house. First crew did not cut opening inside. Second crew opened ceiling and left beam blocking the skylight. Jessica told me that the beam was part of the interior work, which I was responsible for. After telling her I would see her in court, the third crew came and cut the beam. My frustration and anxiety over this job was very taxing. NEVER use them. read more

I used Penyak roofing in 2019 for both my house and a shed in my backyard. They did a fantastic job on both even during the beginning of Covid when things were so difficult Unfortunately this winter a large tree fell on the shed and they fixed the whole free of charge. I highly recommend this company. Excellent work that they are willing to stand by even when it is not their responsibility. Thank you Penyak. I am very grateful! read more

Our house looks terrific! Penyak Roofing was great to work with. Lindsay, Jessica and Joe were true professionals. The price was really good but more importantly, the work was top notch. The team that installed the roof were at the house early and didn't stand around but got right too it. When they were finished and gone, our property was immaculate! You would have never known a team of workers were there. The next day two fellows installed the new gutters in about two hours and once again the grounds were left spotless. All in all a wonderful experience. As an extra bonus, the new roof resulted in a reduced rate on our homeowners policy. You won't go wrong with Penyak Roofing. read more

We had a. n appointment scheduled between 10-12 today for an estimate on a roof replacement. As it neared 12, I called the secretary back to get info. As they knew, we have a tenant who has a day off today and needed to go out and my husband needed to leave for work 12:30. She reached out to the tech 3x. At 12:15 I heard from him insisting he is on time. He arrived by 12:25. He was far from on time. My husband took him quickly into the tenant's empty attic to show a concern. In the interim he left me 3 color charts, which were quite similar. He went up on one side of the duplex w a ladder. We offered water, soda..... . It is a cooler day. When he came down I showed him quickly two gray colors. All he said was when you get your estimate there will be a figure from Cambridge and a figure for the color you choose of IKO. I asked him to explain this and said we are on a tight budget with me being downsized 6 years ago and pushed into early retirement. He focused on one book with an adhesive under the shingle. I asked, is that how the shingle is held down? HE YELLED AT ME saying I said shingles are nailed down. Being polite and having worked 40 years with professional NYC attorneys I bit it. I asked him bear with me because I I am nervous with a Sloan Kettering Consult next week. He yelled at me I AM NOT INTERESTED IN YOUR PERSONAL PROBLEMS. He had some looks to give my son, who was leaving from lunch from our home that wasn't even addressing him. He entered short on patience walking across our lawn both ways. He never went to the back of the house nor did he measure anything. He was unprofessional, rude, obnoxious, waste of our time and I told him he was rude to me and he defied me arguing. I put his books on the table near him. He left them. Penyak, if you want your books come get them. I left 3 messages with the secretary that if the owner or manager wasn't going to call us today, that I was going to post the story. He should be fired. read more

Everything from start to finish was smooth and well done. Quality work for a reasonable price. I highly recommend this company.

This company replaced the roof for my neighbor on Tuesday. I live in a fee simple adjoining town houses. Simply put that means I own the driveway the land, the roof, and the siding everything. It's like owning a single-family home just attached to another home. When I arrived home on Tuesday, I noticed that my front bushes have been trampled, Pieces have been knocked out of my Rockwall. My pathway on the side of my house had been cleared of snow. It was obvious that the roofers had used my side walkway and my driveway to drag their tarps of used materials out to the street. They obviously dragged this across my property without permission. It left a trail of small plastic pieces that likely held the roof roofing tiles together in the package all over my side walkway all over my driveway. Granules and pieces of flashing were also coating my entire driveway and my front walkway. It's clear none of the area around my property had not been tarped and it had been used without permission. I see based on the reviews that I am not the only person that this has happened to as there is another complaint about not protecting a neighbor's driveway. I found nails in my driveway And directly in front of my front door as well. I was lucky that I caught them before I had a popped tire In addition, the roofers left garbage and nails all over my roof. This is obviously a concern, especially this time of year with the weather because those materials can easily fall down into my gutters and block them. I immediately called the company when arriving home on Tuesday night Describing the damages and what happened. A nice office manager or secretary named Jessica returned my call on Wednesday morning. She was very helpful and asked me to send pictures so that she could notify the owner which I did. I was then told that the owner would come out at some point on Thursday to look. I was asked not to clean the debris and granules off my driveway or walkway so the owner could look at it. Keep in mind this is the only entrance to my house, a brand new house that I just bought a month ago. I have a five-year-old so now we are trying to navigate walking through granules and debris being tracked into the house for two days. The owner came out on Thursday. He called me when he was on his way. I was still at work I let him know that I wouldn't make it home in time that he could look at the property and do what he needed. After that phone call, I heard nothing back from him. It is now Saturday morning. We have a noreaster coming in tomorrow and I am sitting here taking screens off of my windows and trying to pull the garbage off the roof so it doesn't end up in my gutters. I do not recommend hiring this company. read more

I had a great experience, not once but twice this year. March 2025 and August 2025. Penyak replaced 2 roofs for me on two homes I own. Each one was done in one day and both were priced just right. They cleaned the gutters and put them back up on one roof but they changed the gutters on the other and did the gutter guards. They cleaned up all the debris and left behind zero nails. The owner called and texted me on regular basis. The crew was friendly and did a great job. . I highly recommend them! read more

Some of the office workers are the most clueless and rude people. I had the misfortune of having to talk to Lindsey. She was snotty over the phone and did a horrible job at answering my questions. She claimed that I would be scheduled on numerous occasions, but it took over a month for me to get scheduled. She claimed over and over that she had to "talk to Mr. Penyak.", and every time I was met with an even longer waiting period. All and all, I enjoyed the work produced by this company, but I would advise speaking to anyone else in the office besides Lindsey. read more

I had my shingles delivered and I had asked them to fit me in to his crazy schedule and he kept texting me everything will be alright! I told him to come over and look at some of the issues I had to see if the chiminey vent was done right the gutters were full of rocks and dirt and had run water through the gutters because he kept saying he will send someone over he sent his son which just walked around I kept telling the owner Mr Joseph Penyak to come over do a walk through and to talk about adjusting the bill and one of the roofers Luis told me that he has done roofs for 30 fucking years and then proceeded to yell at me saying what are you trying to fucking say! I told him don't you curse at me I won't tolerate it! I told Mr Penyak and he did nothing about it! To date he has not come over to go over my issues and adjust the bill! So I will have to wait and see if it will leak because he is not coming over or addressing my bill!!!! read more

I am a retired construction manager and needed a new roof for my church in Somerville, This work involved tear off of a pitched roof with 2 layers of shingles and a flat roof the 2 layers of built up roofing (one layer with stone ballast). I received 3 quotes and selected Penyak based upon both price and the answers to the question I raised about scope. The work was done in two phases the first was the pitched roof which was completed in one day and cleaned up so thoroughly that you would not have known anything was done. The second was the flat roof area which involved the tear off noted and new insulation and a rubber membrane. This too was done in a single day and cleaned up so completely that I was impressed again. I highly recommend Penyak Roofing for any roof project you need, Their office staff is extremely courteous, professional and responsive and quickly returns calls. Their installers are qualified, competent and quick. Gordon Tiner read more

Penyak Roofing did such an amazing job on our house. I was so pleased with the service I received from this business. They went above and beyond. The materials came in 2 days and the roof was completely finished also in 2 days. All the mess that was on the floor was completely cleaned up. The customer service was outstanding, and the outcome was exactly what I was looking for. We shopped around with 2 other roofing companies and J. Penyak was the cheapest! I would definitely recommend them! 10 out of 10! read more

Penyak replaced our roof and gutters, including all of the boards because they were all at the end of their life. At first it all seemed great, the roof looked awesome. Then, the gutters were done. I have found sharp pieces of gutter and at least 10 screws around the yard that my dogs and toddler run around in. I was furious! Then we opened the attic to find that they didn't lay anything down when working and all our boxes of decorations, extra baby items, and new insulation had roofing debris all over them! The worst part was when we were in the attic we noticed mold growing all over the new boards. We called Penyak and they did send someone out, although it was a complete waste of time because they are claiming the mold is because we have false baffles. We have never had mold in our attic and have always had fake baffles. I'm very upset and we have. Toddler living in a house with an attic full of mold! I'll never use this company again and I will tell the whole world to never use this company again. They had a chance to fix the issue and instead came up with an excuse. read more

I had a roof put on by Penyak roofers 6 years ago. 3 weeks ago a wind storm came through Carteret. I lost a few shingles by the Chimney. I thought for sure I would have an issue with the repair but I pulled out my paperwork and I realized I had a 10 year warranty. When I called I figured they would say their not responsible for an act of god. Well I was greeted by a very nice professional woman on the phone. She had someone at my house in 1 day. We can not give enough thanks, gratitude, and a very reasonable and fair price for an excellent job. read more

The next morning, I received a call from Penyak saying they were following up on my voicemail, apparently not knowing that the guy had come. Talk about unresponsiveness. I filled out the form online and followed up with personal emails to the owner as per his recommendations here on Yelp to reach out to him directly and still no one has reached out. Well either they are disorganized or just so busy that new business is not an priority at this time. Joe: I am sorry I did not receive any quote from you. I have great filters set and emails that matter to me are never sent to spam. Also if you website is down it is "your Problem" not mine as a customer. It is between you and your service providers. Who suffers is you as it leaves a bad taste in "your" customers mind. So it is not good to be combative with your customers. I am trying to work with you and give you my job hope you understand that. read more

I had a new roof and gutters installed a year and a half ago. I was very happy throughout the process. Recently I discovered a leak in my dining room at the roof line. I called Penyak and they said they would have someone call me in a day or 2 to come out. That was on October 6th. When I hadn't heard from anyone, I called back on October 9th, they told me they were very busy, but would make sure that someone called me to schedule a visit. No one called. I called again on October 13th and left a message. No one called me back. I called on October 16th and the woman I spoke with said I wasn't on the board, but would add me and someone would call me on Monday, maybe Tuesday. Has anyone even called me to set something up, let alone come to look at the leak in my dining room since having my roof installed? Nope. I am completely understanding about people and businesses being busy and also how COVID has affected everyone, including myself. Which is why I am a FIRM believer that communication is IMPERATIVE! The only reason I am giving Penyak 2 stars is because the process of the roof installation was quite smooth and the women answering the phones have been pretty friendly considering that they are answering phones from people who are frustrated and having to make empty promises about calls being returned and services being scheduled. I still have a leak in my dining room that needs to be corrected. read more

They did a first Street job from the time I made contact. They called back after my initial message within a day, sent an estimator out soon after calling and to scheduled the job in a very reasonable amount of time given the weather and the current pandemic, about two weeks. On the day the job was done, they arrived at 7 AM and proceeded to lay down protective tarps and immediately got to work finishing in about four hours (small house, 3 bedroom ranch). The roofing crew was huge, nine people, and they work feverishly and constantly doing all the needed jobs. By the time the roof was done the area had been completely cleared of debris and put in their dumpster truck to haul away. I even witnessed one worker coming through bushes on the border with my neighbor making sure he got everything that may have blown into the shrubs. The price was reasonable: $7200 for the job on a simple 975 square foot ranch house. They also offered a discount for cash which I waived. I was deeply concerned about hiring a roofer, but they came highly recommended and certainly lived up to the reputation they have built among my friends and Metuchen. read more

Short review: DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE AND USE ANYONE ELSE!!!!! THEY DON'T EVEN DESERVE THE 1 STAR I'M FORCED TO GIVE THEM. Long review: Terrible customer service! We had our roof done years ago and it has recently starting leaking terribly. When we called them to come look at it, it took MONTHS for someone to actually come out to our house. They didn't go on the roof and decided it was our chimney while standing in the driveway. When we called a chimney company, they went on the roof and told us the chimney was fine, but showed us where they felt the flashing was not done correctly. When we tried to get Penyak back, they again would not send anyone to come on our roof and just sent a worker to "fix" the flashing. After this, the leaking became so bad that water was pouring into our attic which then resulted in holes in our family room ceiling with enough water dripping in to ruin the sound bar on our TV. When we AGAIN called them back, Mr Penyak himself was supposed to come take a look.... That was in February.... We're still waiting. He decided (from his couch across town I suppose) that it was not the flashing but the chimney.... How he can make that determination without actually setting foot on our roof is baffling to me. He said his guys would come wrap our chimney in plastic (I guess to prove a point).... They were supposed to come on a Friday...shockingly didn't show up. When we again called to complain they randomly showed up the next day without warning. They wrapped the chimney (along with half the flashing) and miraculously it seems to no longer leak. Now, again without ever being at our house, we're told we need a mason. We called another roofing company who sent someone who physically went on the roof and he too said the flashing is not done correctly and are charging us thousands to fix Penyaks mistake. So unless you want to go through the hassle of hiring lawyers and finding other companies to do the job correctly, save yourself the trouble and use ANYONE else. I've never heard of a roofing company that refuses to actually go on your roof... read more
