Not a local roofer: Contractor officially in Kunkletown, PA, just an East Brunswick P.O. Box (not the Morris Ct address listed). Clearly a subcontractor: Asch said, without prompting from me, they "don't hire illegal immigrants", but that was obviously not so when an army of alleged "not illegal immigrants" showed up in half a dozen trucks from 4-5 different roofing companies, none labeled John Asch (Why this website lists as "Asch John" and refuses to correct teh address or name is rather suspicious). It was mass production and severely rushed... 3-4 dozen "not illegals" trampling everything... half the grass and ground cover destroyed. In the fine print of the contract they are not responsible for this, nor anything it seems: destroying your curb, sidewalk or driveway, plumbing, electrical, A/C, "etc."! Did you know you have to be willing to have your sidewalk destroyed to get a new roof? Well, you do with this company. The workers left soda cans in planters, banana peels on the ground, and a pile of chicken bones from lunch in the bushes for the dog to choke on. Tar everywhere, etc. I've dealt with home contractors for over 20 years for big and large jobs and have honestly never seen anything even close to how farcical and sloppy this was. As for Mr. Asch... the Ange'es list reviews, which you can and should read yourself, are correct including: *Full of himself, rude, arrogant, won't let you get a word in edgewise; *Shows up way before appointed meeting times without calling and gets pisz3d off if you're not there (he wanted to do the work way in advance of the proposed time with almost no notice); *said he would be on the job but showed up for only 10 minutes mid-job (and was annoyed I had stepped out to get something at that time). This is the definition of unprofessional. He also said he needs to make "7 or 8 calls a day" and "had seen 50 different jobs" since he first talked to me which is why he "couldn't possibly know" what he had initially said to me. Like I said... utterly unprofessional. You're paid to be a professional, not a mass producer that can't keep track of the work or what you promised your customers when they told you what they wanted very clearly and you just said, "yes, no problem" even though in the end you won't do the job you had agreed to. He says if you aren't 100% satisfied you don't have to pay, but of course that is untrue. All he cared about were the very vague statements he wrote in the contract and so what he had originally agreed to do he was no longer going to do, and implied that the next step was lawyers. You can see from the website they don't use e-mail at all - so there is no record of the work they promised to do but left out of their vaguely worded contracts. He also kept saying he has a "guarantee" rather than a warranty but there is nothing in the contract that states what a "guarantee" is, so legally it's meaningless. There are many exemptions so good luck ever getting him to make good on his alleged "guarantee." Ask for a blank copy with the contract when you first see him... I bet he won't give you one. If while discussing the work to be done you're told,"That's a very minor issue that we can take care of later"... that's a big red flag. It's very minor to HIM because he can just refuse to do what he doesn't feel like doing later and walk away. Don't sign the contract unless he puts everything you want done into it, in clear unambiguous detail. He'll unprofessionally claim he can't remember what he had originally agreed to because he was out subcontracting a hundred other jobs since. I wish I had gone with another quote from a contractor that was clearly a real roofing outfit, not a subcontractor ranting about how he was god's gift to roofing. They don't take deposits, but that is meaningless: it doesn't mean there isn't just as much chance of there being legal problems in the end. He was truthful that he's not the cheapest (claiming due to him being the "best" - HA!), but in the end I got a cut-rate job done but paid full price. From the standard contract text, and the way he talked to me and to people on Anne Gee's list, he's obviously dealt with lots of unhappy customers. But you don't have to believe me: go ahead and read the reviews people wrote on the other review site, and his unbelievably rude, unprofessional responses to them as well. Surely there will be a rude response to this one, calling me a "liar", etc. Let him set loose the army of "not illegals" on your house at your own peril. If you take a chance, I hope you have a good lawyer on retainer. read more

John and his people are all professional , polite and expert at what they do. John did a re-roof for me back in 2012 and told me i did not have to pay anything up front and that payment was due once the job was completed and i was satisfied. Recently i had part of the siding along my roof line fly off during the last storm. John's crew showed up on the date they said they would, did a great job and once again pmt wasn't made until after job was completed and I was satisfied. John put a new roof on my house this Summer ('16), along with a few skylights. Unlike many contractors, he was there when he said he would be, and started and finished the work within the estimated time frame. The work was done in a very professional manner and was top quality. There were a few skylights that were not standard tasks, but John and his crew figured out the best way to do them and they look great. On top of the quality work, his prices are very competitive. Using John Asch is not "as good as it gets," it's better. Six stars would be the rating I'd choose if given that option. John is a pleasure to deal with - honest, sincere, reliable, and his crew are incredibly competent. We had a tree damage our roof and he immediately responded with a price quote and work schedule. And what quality work! Plus, when he says he'll be there he is. Most folks feel the need to get competitive quotes - sorry, you're just wasting your time. John Asch was recommended by a friend. I had my roof redone several years ago by another contractor. A troublesome leak developed and two different contractors attempted repairs. Nothing worked. I call John and got an immediate appointment. A plan of action was formulated and the work was completed as promised. I didn't pay a penny until all the work was completed and the yard was completely cleaned. The workers were knowledgeable and very neat. John Asch Contracting did an excellent job installing a new roof and replacing the skylights in June 2024 on our house. Their bid was competitive with other bids we received. They did the whole job in one day, despite it being a very hot day. They were meticulous about making sure none of the discarded material hit our house or was left on our lawn after the job. The owner of the company John is the rudest person I ever saw. For 2 mins job he charged $100 and when I asked for explanation he told me that you talk to my lawyer. How unprofessional. I called John Asch Roofing in the morning after a big rain storm. There was a small leak near the chimney.
