Get ready for an adventure! Getting there: we drove. Unless you know EXACTLY what the hell you are doing entering town, my advice is this: Get close and PARK. Then, take a cab. Worried about paying too much? Whatever the cost, it'll be worth it. Take a look at a map and you'll see what I mean.
If you are fearless, call ahead to the hotel a few hours in advance so when you approach the road barriers, you will be granted access. Oh, and don't forget that you better speak Spanish or be able to scream "I AM STAYING AT PENSIÓN ALFIN! LET ME IN!!!!"
Don't count on your GPS to get you there (poor cell coverage), but you CAN count on tight streets, few streets signs, unpredictable road closures, and pedestrians everywhere. Are you familiar with driving a stick-shift? This city will make you an EXPERT with steep inclines to challenge even the most experienced driver.
Follow this advice, or be prepared to fight in the car with whoever is sitting next to you while you randomly beg for assistance from strangers, at the conclusion of which you fall out of the car at the end of your journey screaming "SANGRIA!!!!!"
