What a location, what a location. Needed to say it twice. This place is so great for many reasons. For starters the price is 50% less than the adjacent 4.5 star Hotel Parador de Granada. I had a room with a view of the Sierra Nevada mountain range that was still snow capped in late spring. I loved looking out from the room when I awakened and when I was having a glass of wine in my room in the evening. It was a comfortable size room but who wants to spend time in the room when you are within a 5 minute walk to to Alhambra (A must visit for anyone who travels to this wonderful area).. The breakfast area is very nice and I loved the outdoor quaint setting and the breakfast served was terrific. The best part after eating breakfast was taking the leisurely walk (downhill all the way but up hill when you return) to the array of sites that await you in Granada. It is my favorite tapas location (sorry Madrid). I am sure you can get the full story on what to see and do in Granada but what I did each afternoon was walk back to the Hotel America, freshened up, and took the 5 minute stroll to the outdoor restaurant and bar at the Hotel Parador. It literally gives you an unobstructed view of the Alhambra and the setting is phenomenal. This is where I fell in love with my favorite comp food, the olive!!! Wow. You have never seen a green olive until you feast your eyes on the ones from this gorgeous country (the Gordal and Cacerena olives are two of my favorites). While driving to Granada from Cordoba, I saw the many olive trees aligned perfectly and what a beautiful site to see, so pristine. I learned that Spain has over 300 varieties of olives and I could not get enough at any tapas bar and each afternoon while taking a "break" at the outdoor lounge and restaurant at the Parador. There are so many sites to see and the Hotel America is terrific and staff is so helpful. You will want to enjoy your breakfast each day at the America, take the beautiful stroll that is about a 15 minute walk to the center of Granada, just walk and walk in the town. Stop off at some amazing tapas places, do the the Cathedral and just be taken aback, and at early evening walk to the Mirador de San Nicolas to see the spectacular views. The Alhambra palace, the city of Granada and the Sierra Nevada mountains can all be seen from this vantage point. While the walk takes about 20 minutes from Granada to San Nicolas and is a small street walk uphill, you will pass so many cool sites, music playing and just people loving life. It will surround you with peace. I went in to San Nicolas during the mass service and just felt a calming influence over me. But the sun setting on the Alhambra will touch your very soul, So check in to the Hotel America, park conveniently outside the walls as you cannot park at the hotel nor drive up to it, get comfortable and have an amazing life changing experience. read more
